8/18/23 - This is a solid projector with a great picture and easy setup. I just set this up today with a fire stick, using a bluetooth soundbar connected to the firestick. It runs very, very hot, so make sure it has airflow. A lot of picture mode options as well as keystone adjustment, which is useful if you are mounting it low or high. Also has a ‘wall color’ option, and adjusts the picture to best match what color wall you have. I’ve just set this up today, but am satisfied!

Great basic projector, nice and bright. Would like to see more image shift & zoom settings, but I'm sure you get those as you move up in price.
Only the middle front foot is adjustable.
I'm using it for an outdoor projector on a 15ft screen. So paired with an adjustable projector stand I'm able to position the projector exactly where it needs to be.

**Review for Optoma HD146X High Performance 1080p

The Optoma HD146X projector has truly elevated my home entertainment experience to a whole new level. After using it for several weeks, I'm thoroughly impressed with its performance, especially considering its price point. Here’s why I think it’s an excellent choice for anyone looking to upgrade their home theater or gaming setup.
**Picture Quality:**
The HD146X delivers stunning 1080p Full HD resolution that makes movies, TV shows, and games look incredibly sharp and vibrant. The color accuracy is remarkable, and the contrast ratio provides deep blacks and bright whites, creating a dynamic viewing experience. With its brightness rating of 3,600 lumens, the projector performs exceptionally well even in rooms with ambient light, although it truly shines in a darker environment. Whether I'm watching a blockbuster movie or playing an intense video game, the picture quality is consistently crisp and immersive.
**Enhanced Gaming Mode:**
One of the standout features of the HD146X is its Enhanced Gaming Mode. As a gaming enthusiast, I appreciate the fast response time and low input lag, which makes playing fast-paced games smooth and responsive. The gaming mode optimizes the settings to ensure minimal motion blur and delivers a lag-free experience, which is crucial for competitive gaming. It's a game-changer for anyone who loves playing on a big screen without compromising on performance.
**Ease of Use and Setup:**
Setting up the Optoma HD146X was a breeze. The projector comes with a straightforward user manual that guides you through the process. It features an intuitive on-screen menu that is easy to navigate, allowing for quick adjustments to picture settings and input sources. The projector also includes a variety of input options, including HDMI, which makes connecting it to various devices like gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, and streaming devices hassle-free.
**Sound Quality:**
While the built-in speaker is adequate for casual viewing, I highly recommend pairing the projector with an external sound system or soundbar for a more cinematic experience. The audio quality from external speakers will greatly enhance the overall experience, especially for movies and games.
**Portability and Design:**
The Optoma HD146X is relatively compact and lightweight, making it easy to move between rooms or even take to a friend’s house for a movie night. Its sleek black design is aesthetically pleasing and blends well with most home décor setups. The projector’s fan is also fairly quiet, so it doesn't distract from the viewing experience, even during quieter scenes.
**Value for Money:**
Considering its high performance, ease of use, and impressive picture quality, the HD146X is an excellent value for money. It competes well with more expensive models and provides a premium home entertainment experience without breaking the bank.
**Conclusion:**
Overall, the Optoma HD146X High Performance 1080p Home Entertainment Projector is a fantastic choice for anyone looking to enhance their home theater or gaming experience. With its outstanding picture quality, enhanced gaming mode, and user-friendly setup, it’s hard to beat at this price point. I highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a versatile and high-performing projector.

Excellent image reproduction with some degree of image control to allow your own adjustments of your source inputs. It’s bright enough to use in dimly lit spaces or at dusk without much fuss. Obviously, at its best when used in full darkness. Remote is useful. The only serious problem is the console audio speaker. It’s awful. The sound from the actual unit, even at full volume is low and non dimensional. It’s impossible to hear outdoors. What was the manufacturer thinking? It’s a joke. Luckily, there’s a mini plug audio aux output and if you attach a speaker or an amp, it passes the audio well to these sources that can really boost it. Adding an external speaker or patching it to your existing stereo system saves the sound. On every other level it’s a fine product. Not too heavy or big and it’s has a remarkable throw - meaning you can really enjoy BIG images with true clarity. Invest in a screen or come up with some innovate, cheap ideas with bedsheets. This is a worthwhile purchase. It looks very good and does the job - just get a speaker!

Excellent picture. Very bright with great looking blacks.
Using for backyard movie nights.
Very basic with only one HDMI input and one minijack sound output. Minimal zoom restricts placement. Internal speakers are barely audible so connection to a sound system is a must.
Good for the price.

The image quality is very good from this unit, especially at this price point. Very bright, visible in low ambient light. Good colors and contrast. Sharp for 1080p. Cant complain.
If you are using this for entertainment you absolutely will need a separate audio solution, the built in speaker is super quiet and lacks bass, but it will be fine for image only uses like presentations or slide shows.

Great "Entry Level" Projector

This is my first projector, and I did a lot of online research prior to selecting Optoma as a brand and this particular model, the HD146X. We have used this projector indoors, with a fixed screen, and outdoors with a portable screen. You won't be able to watch this (or any projector) outside in the daylight, but it provides a bright and clear picture in dusk and in a room with some daylight coming through window blinds. With 3600 lumens, watching during the daytime (as long as windows are somewhat covered) works quite well. At night, it looks really, really good. From sports, to movies, to video games, it projects a fantastic, bright, 1080P picture. It's easy to set up and operate, as well. It's not overly heavy, so it is easy to move from inside to outside, like we do.
A couple of small negatives: (1) the projector, while touting itself as being quiet, is not "whisper quiet" and does put forth a "whirring" noise that you can hear quite audibly if you are sitting close to it; and (2) the built in speaker is NOT what you are going to want to use for anything, as it is not very loud at all, and is drowned out a bit by the noise of the fan/device. What we did is to hook a bluetooth transmitter to the audio out jack on the speaker and send the audio to a huge and powerful bluetooth speaker. With this setup, we have a full movie-theater like experience, and it drowns out the noise of the projector (easily) and is a really fantastic experience. With that setup, for example, we watched Star Wars in our driveway and it was just great.
Overall, I would highly recommend this projector. I cannot compare it to a 4K projector, or even more expensive projectors generally, but for me, you get a great picture for the money.

My last Optoma projector lasted at least 10 years and was rock solid other than replacing bulbs. It finally died about a month ago so I started looking for replacements. This Optoma HDX146X was a great relatively low cost replacement. Its sharp, bright, and works great for my needs which are movies and gaming.

Purchased this projector to have movie nights outdoors with the family via my Roku. Picture quality is great and very bright. I hooked up a Bluetooth adapter to the Aux port and have two speakers with stands that I connect with Bluetooth. Very happy to the quality. Watched Avatar the first night and picture was crisp and colors were vibrant. This projector exceeded my expectations. Would have been nice to have built-in Bluetooth and an extra HDMI port, but overall this is a great projector for this price.

Fantastic projector- excellent quality and very easy to use. Very quiet, which I heard was not the case with others. My son took this to college and loved hosting movie nights and video game sessions in his room. Now if only he would have gone to class…

Do not buy. Projector is easy to set up and has a good picture. However it overheats VERY easily. It will not function unless you are in a cool room.

Went through two other entry level protectors on Amazon and this one takes the bank. This should really be the baseline protector. Picture quality is great and more importantly clear! The sub 500 ones have a huge issue with clarity. The brightness on this is also good. Can be used during the day with the shades down and at dusk outside. Speakers are bad. Like almost unusable. This replaced my 65" 4k Sony for the past couple months just because this thing looks awesome blown up on 120".

The projector is easy to use and has a great picture. I've used it outside against a screen, and indoors against a wall. The wall was a taupe/beige color, but whites still looked white. I thought i'd need a screen, but it turns out I do not. If I had any complaint, it's that the unit does not come with a lens cap, so I have no way to protect the lens.
