I find the data the ring collects very insightful, however, the ring does scratch easily. I would recommend a cover for when using it while weight lifting.

I ended up returning the ring. The ring was too bulky. I had it on my ring finger and it was bruising my middle finger. I liked how’s it could monitor my heart rate and sleep etc. just was not happy with how it fit.

It takes 30+ days of calibration to even see metrics in the app. However Best Buy’s return policy is 15 days. Honestly, just get an Apple Watch.

Don't buy the ring is useless without a subscription. Paid so much to not be able to use any feature without paying. My smartwatch does more for free. Now its basically a 500.00 brick. Never even got the ceramic cleaning cloth for it. Worse product ever and will never recommend to anyone.

Improved over previous gen. Tracking can be off

Pro: -More comfortable than previous gen -Accurate sleep tracking -Week long battery life Con: -Almost useless without subscription -The thickness can get in the way The Oura 4 Ceramic gives a different look to the ring compared to the metal ones. It has a deep shine like it has two layers of glossiness, looking very much like a new coffee cup. While I do like the look, being ceramic, I’m concerned about its finish long term since they tend to dull over time. On the inside are sensors, increased from the previous generation. The sensors no longer protrude making it more comfortable to wear. The ring is still thicker than a typical ring and it can definitely get in the way. I wear it mostly on my middle finger and it presses into the other fingers. It can also get snagged on my pockets or hit against surfaces. The tracking is mostly accurate from what I’ve seen. It tracks activity, sleep, and body signals which it uses to present them as Readiness, Activity, and Sleep scores. The sleep tracking is very accurate and shows exactly when I wake up and the total time I’m actually asleep. The activity tracking can seem off at times. Sometimes I feel like I’m moving around more than what is tracked and other times it seems to track more than what I’m actually doing. For instance, I was just walking around the house not doing that much and it wanted to log it as an activity for over an hour. What is shown on the app’s main page can seem like it’s too simplified in some areas. On the main page, it displays your activity goal, scores, and timeline for the day. You have to go deeper in the pages to see more information. Something like steps or calorie burned should probably be on the main page. However, once you do open up each tab, there’s a lot of information and graphs giving a more detailed breakdown of the scores. Being able to see all the details can help motivate you to improve your habits. The big negative is that it requires a subscription for the tracking, and without one, it’s practically useless. Without one, it will only give you the three main scores without any other information. If you don’t want to pay a subscription, then this is not for you. The battery life lasts about a week, maybe a little less. On day six, it was down to about 25%. It also charges very quickly, maybe about 30 minutes to full charge. Whether this is worth it or not depends on the user. If you don’t like having a thick ring on all the time, or if you need tracking without the subscription, then there are other devices. If you want something smaller and more discrete then it may fit your needs. It may take some getting used to having a ring this size on all the time. From what I’ve seen so far, sleep and vital tracking are accurate, but activity doesn’t seem to be as much.

In the box: Oura Ring 4 Ceramic (size 11, color Midnight) 3-foot USB-C to USB-C charging cable Charging base “Stuff you should know” booklet Setup: After downloading the Oura iPhone app and creating an account, setup over Bluetooth was straightforward. The ring came adequately charged for setup and a day or so of wear. Design: The fit of the size 11 Oura Ring 4 Ceramic was well represented by the sizing kit based on the inside diameter. The outside diameter of the size 11 ceramic ring is about one millimeter larger than the size 11 ring in the sizing kit. The small indentation on the ring facilitates proper placement of the sensors toward the palm side of the hand. Small slots on the interior of the ring match keys on the charging base to ensure proper charging. According to Oura, the ring is designed to be water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters (328 feet) and has an operating temperature range of 14 to 125°F. I have not tested the limits of either. The polished zirconia ceramic exterior is wear- and scratch-resistant. After setting up an account, Oura provided a burnishing cloth to buff out scratches should they occur. Aesthetic: The Midnight ceramic exterior is a dark metallic color with a reflective surface. It looks more metallic than blue (a good thing in my opinion). Function: The Oura Ring 4 measures blood oxygen levels, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and movement. The algorithms in the app combine these measurements to assess “readiness”, sleep quality, activity, and stress. Some of these metrics require establishment of a personalized baseline that can take a couple weeks to establish. Batter: The charge on my Oura Ring 4 Ceramic lasts about a week. At the point when the app alerts me that the battery is low, charging takes less than an hour. App: The Oura App has a slick user interface and is easy to navigate. Custom activities can be added to better correspond to your favorites.

    What A Life-Changer!!

UNPACKING In a sense, it was like opening a pirate’s treasure chest — because inside was a jewel. As I unpacked it, I was taken aback by the beauty of the midnight blue ceramic finish. It seemed to change colors right before my eyes, depending on how the light struck it. It was as smooth as buttered glass. I felt like Bilbo must have felt when he first picked up The Ring — there was an allure about it, a subtle irresistible beckoning to put it on. The inner band gleams like fine silver, and the sensors catch the light like tiny gemstones. The union of that deep blue ceramic with the polished stainless interior is simply a sight to behold. The setup was amazingly simple — and I don’t use that word lightly. Nothing out of the ordinary, no fuss or frustration. A quick download of the Oura app, a few straightforward steps, and within minutes it was ready to go. That marriage between the ring and the app forms a kind of digital library filled with meaningful information: sleep scores, activity levels, oxygen saturation, calories burned, live heart rate, temperature variations, and exercise tracking. It’s a treasure trove of insight that makes it nearly impossible not to understand how to improve your health and fitness. The app itself is equally impressive. It presents complex data in clearly defined, down-to-earth terms. Even someone entirely new to the world of fitness can observe, understand, and act on what they see. It offers useful insights, meaningful benchmarks, and tracks details often overlooked on the journey toward better health. I love the way it keeps everything organized, presenting the data in ways that can truly lay the foundation for lifestyle changes — the kind that almost guarantee a longer, healthier life. LIVING WITH THE RING Once the novelty wore off — or rather, settled into appreciation — I began to notice something remarkable. The Oura Ring doesn’t feel like technology. It doesn’t announce itself or demand attention. It simply becomes part of you. I wore it through full days of work, exercise, and rest. The comfort was exceptional. Unlike wrist trackers that tug or pinch or remind you they’re there, the ring sits so naturally on the hand that I often forgot I was wearing it at all. Even during yard work, when I’d normally expect grit or discomfort, the ring held steady — never intrusive, never awkward. At night, it performed beautifully. While I slept, it quietly observed the rhythms of my body — heart rate, oxygen levels, temperature, movement — and by morning, it presented a detailed portrait of my night’s rest. Not just numbers, but a narrative: how long I spent in each sleep stage, how efficiently I rested, and what that meant for the day ahead. There’s a kind of elegance in how it merges science with simplicity. It doesn’t lecture, it teaches. I found myself checking the readiness score each morning, not out of obsession, but out of genuine curiosity. It felt like the ring and I were in conversation — a daily dialogue about balance, recovery, and the gentle art of listening to one’s own body. Over the next few days, patterns began to emerge. The nights I pushed myself too hard at the gym, the Oura knew. The mornings after a quiet evening in the yard, it reflected calm and recovery. It didn’t scold or praise; it simply showed me myself. And that, I think, is where its true value lies. The Oura Ring doesn’t try to make you someone else — it helps you become more aware of the person you already are. THE PRACTICAL AND THE PROFOUND After a full week of living with the Oura Ring, I can say this much: it’s not just a gadget. It’s a companion — one that whispers rather than shouts. Battery life has been excellent. I can go several days without charging, and when I do, the charge time is short enough that it never feels like a chore. The app syncs seamlessly every time, without hiccups or dropped connections — something that’s surprisingly rare in this age of “smart” devices. The only mild irritations, if they can even be called that, are minor. There’s the subscription cost, of course, and the realization that the battery is sealed within the ring, never meant to be replaced. But these are details, not deal-breakers. They pale beside the overall experience. What impresses me most is how quietly intelligent it all feels. There are no flashing screens or endless buzzes, no need to scroll or swipe or chase the next metric. It simply gathers, learns, and reports — all while maintaining an elegant dignity. It’s rare to find technology that encourages stillness. The Oura Ring does. It invites awareness rather than anxiety. It gives feedback, not commands. And for someone like me — a 68-year-old man who’s lived long enough to know that simpler often means better — that balance matters. The midnight blue ceramic still catches me off guard sometimes. In the sunlight, it glows with quiet confidence; in the evening, it deepens into shadow, like something ancient and wise. I suppose that’s fitting. It’s a ring that measures the most modern of data but does so with the timeless grace of something that could have come from an age of myth. So, did I do good? Yes. I did real good. This little ring has earned its place — not as another gadget to charge and forget, but as a small, beautiful reminder to listen. To the body. To the rhythm of the day. To the simple miracle of being alive. There is no question as to whether I will recommend this ring to my friends/family or not, because I most certainly will be. I never imagined how a ring could have such an impact on my daily life, but the Oura Ring 4? It most certainly has made a difference. Thank you Oura for a product that is a life changer!!

Oura Ring Opens a World of Health Information

Oura - Ring 4 Ceramic - Smart Ring The Oura Ring 4 ceramic color choices are: Midnight, Tide, and Petal. I chose the color Cloud for its ability to be neutral with all palette colors. Be sure and take your time and find the right fit for your ring by taking advantage of the ring-sizing kit. The ring sizes are from 4-15 with no half sizes. It is recommended that you use one of the three middle fingers to wear your ring since they offer the best skin contact for the ring. I started out by putting my ring on my ring finger but during the night it would spin around. The literature states that the ring can turn up to 30 degrees on the finger and still get readings, I decided to put it on the preferred index finger for the best accuracy. The company offered a free ceramic polishing pad, and I took advantage of that offer. The battery life statistics show the Oura ring lasts between five (5) and eight (8) days. I never concerned myself with how many days the battery would last since my routine is to charge it while I am taking my morning bath. It takes about 20 minutes, and the app on my phone notifies me when it is fully charged. The app is available for iOS or Android. I have an iPhone and the process to download the app and opt to pay a monthly/yearly fee to access all resources and insights available with the ring is very straightforward. There are other available paid integrations that I might take advantage of later, but the primary membership opens a ton of ring abilities for $5.99 per month or $69.00 per year. I am not a swimmer or diver just a bath and shower taker so although the ring is waterproof it wasn’t the most important factor to me, but I really love to read about technological triumphs and I think when sports enthusiasts read about the ability to use the ring in a water environment it will be a plus for them (you might read up on this). My whole reason for wanting to obtain the Oura ring was to help me understand my sleep pattern I had developed. I wanted to improve to a more restful and restorative sleep situation. I was concerned how insomnia was affecting my health. Be prepared to be intrigued and amazed how changed sleep habits can make a real difference in your daily life. My personal journey took me from insomnia to a full 8-hour sleep pattern with a good amount of REM sleep. When I first started wearing the ring I had about 43 minutes of REM sleep. Now I am averaging over 2 hours of REM each night. The app encourages a regular daily pattern of going to bed and getting up in sync with your normal body rhythm. From my experience it takes time to adjust but I kept using the app’s Advisor, one of my favorite aspects of the ring, to help guide me. There are various reasons why different people may have trouble getting to sleep. But once you start getting enough sleep with the ring’s help as shown through the Advisor, you will be ready to get up and tackle other options that the ring has to offer. I have also started taking advantage of logging in meals for the nutritional and meal timing insights the app offers. You can take a picture of your plate of food, and it will give you information on your meal selection such as whether changing some of the items will be more helpful in my health goals. I still have much to learn. Don’t think a reviewer can give you full details of what there is to offer with this ring because it takes time to use the ring and discover where you are health-wise and what you might be able to add on as far as integrations to bring you to a more optimum health state. When you first begin your journey to a better you the app may tell you it needs several weeks of data from the ring’s information to give you feedback in some areas. There is much you can read and learn through the app about written scientific articles available. I also plan to take advantage of the Testing Hub. My first result regarding caffeine came in today. I am excited to see how having my last cup of coffee 6 hours before bedtime will affect my statistics over the next couple of weeks. Take advantage of the Get Help tab in the app along with the virtual assistant articles and additional integrations that are available or that will be coming in the near future. I have read that the Oura app will continue to have updates which is awesome. Looking forward to what is next. I could write so much more but the whole point of a review is how well the device is working and is it as beneficial as they say in order to pay the price that they are asking for it. In my personal life within just a few weeks I am already reaping the rewards. So, I give this Oura ring high marks. As far as any negatives the only one I would like to do an integrative meal plan but that is behind a paywall and that isn’t in my budget yet!

Excellent addition to tracking my health

Fitness rings are awesome and hard at the same time. Overall, I love having a fitness ring, I had one for about a year before I was forced to switch to the Iphone and that ring was no longer compatible with my phone. I think one of the struggles with smart rings is you can’t just resize like a normal metal band so customizing is hard, also, you want it snug so it can read your vitals but if it is too snug it can be an absolute pain to take off if your fingers change size often like my fingers seem to. It’s not an issue for my wedding band as I rarely take it off but the finger I would most like to put the Oura on is always too small for the size 11 but often too big for the size 10. I used the sizing kit for a week prior to making the choice, but I think I would have gone the size 10 looking back as the size 11 fits just a fraction bigger than the sizing kit and that fraction would have made the difference taking it on and off in the size 10, so if you think the sizing ring is just a hair too small you might be alright with the real ring, or maybe it is just the material difference as metal does slide on and off easier than plastic. I was at another store, and their sizing rings look different and fit basically identical to the ring I had on my finger compared to the sizing kit I received. The size 11ring I move between three different fingers depending on what feels comfortable that day, my two index fingers or my middle-left finger. I mostly like the ring because it tracks blood oxygen at night and I’m annoyed it doesn’t input that data into apple health, I’ve seen a few work arounds but unless you have some technical knowhow. The added bonus that does a good job of tracking that I realized is actually accurate is the stress, sleep score and readiness. I really never considered these as being something that could actually be accurate. But as I’ve used it more and more the numbers have started giving me feedback that is usable. The most surprising one is the stress as that has never really been super accurate but Oura seems to have nailed it and I can see that graph that correlates to a stressful call at work or an incident I need to respond to… mostly this is just interesting feedback to me, I can’t really do anything to make the situation less stressful but I like having the data. The sleep score and readiness score work give me insight on why i am so tired or if I am feeling great, I can see when I went to bed and when I got up. The sleep score is helping me make better decisions… I’ve noticed if I eat too heavy of dinner my deep sleep seems to suffer and I start losing energy through the week… same if I don’t get a good night’s sleep by heading to bed when it’s time. I’ve learned by I seem to function great on 7 to 7.5 hours of sleep but going to bed at 9 vs 11 is giant for my sleep score and I’ll be up by 5 to 530 without an alarm if I’m asleep by 930 vs fighting to get out of bed at 630 if I go to bed at 1030 even though that is actually a little bit more sleep. This will sounds little crazy but I’ve started using the readiness score to motivate myself. Going running in the morning is hard, so I will look at the score in the morning and if it is in the 80s not matter what my mind is trying to tell me, I can be like, the data says I can run… I need to go running. Inversely if I score in the 60s or 70s, I’ll be like, yeah, time to take a break this morning. The Timeline feature is interesting, but it isn’t the most usable to me. I need a food log but this one isn’t my favorite though I like how it estimates the calories based off the picture and seems to be accurate but will miss things. Depending on what you’re looking for in a food tracker this might be right up your alley. The steps counter is mostly accurate, if you’re getting a ring to count steps… I’d think twice. It disagreed with my apple watch especially when I did a couple of 4 mile runs. I’m not sure how much I really trust my apple watch either… At the end of the day, it will tell you if you’ve been active that day and that is what I really care about. The design of this particular ring is interesting. I’m used to metal rings and up till now my smart rings have been metal. The material feels a little different and I’ve gotten several marks on it that I can never remember where they came from, the ceramic polishing pad is a must have if you want those to go away and they do come right off. The white is definitely a cream color not white and just kind of blends into my hand as it isn’t too far off from my skin tone. Overall, I really like having a ring to track my fitness more holistically and I do like the ceramic type of design of the ring versus metal. I love the ability to track my health more closely. I think the part I like most about it is the ability to arm my brain with facts when I really don’t want to get out of bed to do the things I need to do to get and stay healthy.
