A technological ring!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're looking for something small and discreet to keep track of your health, fitness, sleep and energy, then this Oura ring is right up your alley! The Oura Ring is a membership service that has given me a whole to way to look at my personal health. It has sensors in the ring that track all types of things such as heart rate, activity levels, sleep rhythms, alertness and readiness, meal logging, and more. It even has an explore mode that plays meditation, breathing exercises, and sleep relaxation help audio. The ring is very easy to set up and get using. It comes with a unique ring charging base, and a nice usb-c cable to plug into it. It does not come with the wall plug end. The ring only fits onto the charger one way and will light up once seated on the stand. It charges fairly quickly, and the battery will stay charged for multiple days. I have been able to wear my ring for just over 5 days from full before it died on me. It can also send a notification to your phone to let you know when it is time to charge. You do have to wear the ring a specific way on your finger, so the sensors line up right. There is a little line on one side that you turn the ring so that it is on the same side as your palm. The ring is super comfortable and this specific ring has a ceramic outer shell. It is very easy to keep clean, and is not easy to scratch up. The ring is advertised to be completely water resistant up to 7m, so that you can wear the ring for everything you do like when I wash dishes, take showers, go swimming, etc. It is a completely active ring and has performed very well for me in wet conditions. I just make sure to dry it off and put it back on just like I would my wedding ring. I have been able to utilize every aspect of what this ring offers except the blood glucose level. For that you need a separate device called a stelo sensor. You can track the results of the stelo sensor within the Oura app. I have been thoroughly impressed with this ring overall, even compared to a smart watch counterpart. I find it quite more enjoyable to wear a ring, than a bulky smartwatch to track my fitness. The sleep trends has been the most helpful for me as it helps me track how long I actually slept, how long I was in REM sleep, tracks sleep apnea symptoms, and more. The meal tracking has been very helpful as well as to lay out my whole diet and how it plays into my overall health and fitness. The meditation has been extremely helpful as well and you can also pick from a list of soundscapes to use while the meditation voice is playing. I find it very relaxing. Overall I would recommend this Oura ring to everyone. It has so many benefits and tracks so many different things to help with your health journey. Absolutely fantastic ring!

Great Wearable Health and Activity Monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the box: Oura Ring 4 Ceramic (size 11, color Midnight) 3-foot USB-C to USB-C charging cable Charging base “Stuff you should know” booklet Setup: After downloading the Oura iPhone app and creating an account, setup over Bluetooth was straightforward. The ring came adequately charged for setup and a day or so of wear. Design: The fit of the size 11 Oura Ring 4 Ceramic was well represented by the sizing kit based on the inside diameter. The outside diameter of the size 11 ceramic ring is about one millimeter larger than the size 11 ring in the sizing kit. The small indentation on the ring facilitates proper placement of the sensors toward the palm side of the hand. Small slots on the interior of the ring match keys on the charging base to ensure proper charging. According to Oura, the ring is designed to be water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters (328 feet) and has an operating temperature range of 14 to 125°F. I have not tested the limits of either. The polished zirconia ceramic exterior is wear- and scratch-resistant. After setting up an account, Oura provided a burnishing cloth to buff out scratches should they occur. Aesthetic: The Midnight ceramic exterior is a dark metallic color with a reflective surface. It looks more metallic than blue (a good thing in my opinion). Function: The Oura Ring 4 measures blood oxygen levels, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and movement. The algorithms in the app combine these measurements to assess “readiness”, sleep quality, activity, and stress. Some of these metrics require establishment of a personalized baseline that can take a couple weeks to establish. Batter: The charge on my Oura Ring 4 Ceramic lasts about a week. At the point when the app alerts me that the battery is low, charging takes less than an hour. App: The Oura App has a slick user interface and is easy to navigate. Custom activities can be added to better correspond to your favorites.

It's...OK. (I guess)
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are some really neat things about this full offering from Oura that help to balance out some of the annoyances, but in the end, I don't think it's for me. Or you. Or most people. Oura's approach to sizing notwithstanding (read the annoyingly separate reviews of their sizing kit), overall 'startup' in Oura's ecosystem is pretty straightforward. Get the ring, pair it to your device, set up an account, and you're on your way. And it's nice, because the battery lasts basically forever (not really, but far longer than a smartphone or smartwatch), and as long as you can get over its physical size, it's pretty easy to forget you're wearing it. But you won't forget: you'll notice, quite a bit in fact. It's not a big ring, necessarily, in fact it is noticeably smaller than some earlier generation smart rings. But, it is far from a 'normal' ring when it comes to overall girth. I'm used to wearing one ring, my wedding ring, and the Oura ring takes some extra getting used to due to its size…but I also think most people would expect this out of the gate. Given its size, it is surprisingly light, and the 'midnight' color I got is gorgeous. I actually really enjoyed fidgeting with it, frequently poking at it with my thumb. This was a necessary tactic, as there is a small divot that is supposed to stay centered plam-side, so the fidgeting ended up being a useful tick. Some of the 'cool factor' stuff comes with the ecosystem itself, experienced within the Oura app. The ring will automatically sense sleep and workouts, which can be accessed within the app. I don't love the user interface overall--navigation is somewhat confusing and it's difficult to remember where to go to access certain information. And, like many third-party health apps (and by third-party, I mean not Google, Samsung or Apple's integrated health apps), integration with the big players isn't always there. I'm a current Samsung Watch and former Apple Watch user. I use these devices to track workouts (however sparing they may be), sleep (however sparing it may be), and receive/act on notifications. I routinely buy the cellular model of smart watches because I want to do these things while away from my phone; in many ways, the smartwatch is a perfect companion device for me. Oura's ring is not. It's not bad… but the lack of full integration and data synchronization with Samsung's health app makes this at best a tertiary (and very unnecessary) data collector. That said, arguably my very favorite thing about the whole ring experience is Oura's approach to snack and meal tracking. It's not over-the-top granular the way MyFitnessPal is, with macro and micro nutrient tracking, but the ability to take pictures of your food and auto populate a food diary is pretty cool (and it worked surprisingly well). The app also has a very nice way of urging you to eat healthier without shaming you (even though I assume all AI is mostly passive-aggressive). But then there's the rub: the price. This ring is $500, more expensive than my Samsung smart watch, and only $20 less than a cellular 46mm Apple Watch that can do so much more. If I had to choose, I'd take the watch every time, and that's coming from someone who loves to frivolously spend money on tech I don't really need. But of course, that's not all: Oura also charges you $6/month or $70/year for their service. Dump the cellular on the Apple Watch and the Apple product becomes the cheaper option, which is unusual to say the least. So it's clearly not for me--and given the adoption of smart watches over the last several years, I don't really think it's an overall good product given the extremely high cost of entry.

Great smart ring
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This oura ring is Fantastic for tracking health data and looks great as well. You do need to buy the membership to get the most out of the oura ring though. You also should buy the sizing kit first to know which size fits you best. I would do this even if you had used older generations of the oura ring as well. Your finger could if grown bigger or smaller during the time you last tried it out. The ring tracks my usual data like your smart watch would but in a smaller package that you don’t need to have on your wrist and the battery life is longer as well. I found watches last around a day or two at best. This lasts around a week before needing to charge it again. They suggest you using this on your index finger but I’ve seen people use these kind of rings on the middle and ring finger as well. Using this with their app and subscription gives you data that isn’t just numbers in your face but in an easy digestible way which is great. Gives you a sleep score based on how long you sleep and etc for example.

Solid Fitness and Sleep Tracking
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all the setup with pretty straight forward via the app. I charged it on the base prior to setup. The base looks cool and does not take up a lot of space which is something I appreciate. I have been using fitness trackers for the last 12 years, so I have established a baseline for the data that is provided. I must say data is very good and now I am starting to question the accuracy of my previous tracker, especially when it comes to sleep. Note that this ring has to be worn for a month for everything to be calibrated. I'm looking forward to this. The biggest complaint about this ring is that it is too bulky. During daily activities I can feel the ring squeezing against my other fingers. Also, it is uncomfortable when I am weight lifting. Very annoying when I am bench pressing. My other complaint is the color choices. I wished there was a black color or colors that look like actual jewelry, but I guess that might be difficult with ceramic. Outside of my two complaints, I do like this ceramic ring and I think the app is very good and provides very good data.

Pretty, but less comfortable than the standard one
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very excited to add the ceramic ring given how gorgeous it is, however upon putting it on I found it was significantly less comfortable than the metallic Oura 4. This is pretty much exclusively due to the ring being 20% thicker than the standard titanium ring, causing it to press against other fingers and anything you might be grasping noticeably more than the regular one. Within an hour I'd already boxed it up for return, and will be sticking to just my regular Oura 4. Hopefully one day they can make a ceramic one that is the same thickness as the current titanium, at which time I'll gladly upgrade, but for now the extra $150 for less comfort just isn't a good option :/
