What Oura Does Well Recovery-Grade HRV: Oura is as accurate as anything outside a hospital, measuring HRV (rMSSD) at night for deep recovery. If you want insight into your autonomic nervous system—stress, strain, and rest—Oura’s data is solid and beautifully presented. Sleep Tracking: The ring’s sleep stage analysis and readiness score are helpful for seeing how your body bounces back, especially if you’ve been under stress, sick, or training hard. Where It Falls Short Paywall for Wellness: After the trial, you have to pay $6/month for most features. Without a subscription, you lose access to HRV trends, detailed sleep, temperature, and more. That means the $350–$500 you paid just gets you the hardware—wellness is extra. Luxury Pricing, Questionable Value: The base price is steep, and the gold version costs even more (and yes, the gold can tarnish—search the reviews!). You’re paying for a brand and a shiny finish, not extra function. Opaque Data: Oura only shows your lowest HRV average at night, not your highest, nor your real-time ups and downs. If your number seems low (mine is often ~19 ms), that’s by design—it’s showing your most “strained” period, not your day’s average. This can be confusing and discouraging. Step Count Drift: After recent updates, Oura’s step count dropped (sometimes undercounted), while RingConn overcounts. Neither is perfect. RingConn: A Cheaper, Broader Lens All-Day HRV: RingConn measures HRV continuously, so you can see how stress, calm, and even emotions affect you throughout the day. No subscription required. Half the Price: $200, with core metrics, including HRV, and no recurring fees. App Needs Work: No way to see weekly/monthly HRV trends (at least as of this writing), which makes long-term improvement hard to track. What Companies Should Learn Stop Gating Health Data: HRV isn’t new; HeartMath has offered this tech for decades, focused on healing, not profits. Wellness shouldn’t be locked behind a luxury paywall. Transparency and Choice: Let users see all their HRV data—lowest, highest, averages, and real-time—and empower them to interpret it meaningfully. Price for Access, Not Exclusion: These rings could transform public health if made more affordable. Apple and Oura, why not partner with mission-driven orgs and make HRV tracking a right, not a privilege? Bottom Line If you want the most validated HRV data for overnight recovery, Oura is still the gold standard—but it comes with a monthly toll, luxury pricing, and data “curation” that hides more than it reveals. If you want more raw, day-long HRV (with some trade-offs in accuracy), RingConn is a worthy challenger at half the price. If I could, I’d blend Oura’s science with RingConn’s access and HeartMath’s spirit. Until then, Oura gets 2–3 stars from me—not for lack of innovation, but for putting wellness behind a velvet rope. The Oura ring has been an excellent addition to my wearable tech line up. I wear my applae watch during the day and take it off at night and the Oura ring 24/7 except to charge and actives that might damage it. It’s very comfortable to wear and the battery life is excellent.

No matter if you are buying the oura ring for a health issue, to track for fertility, or just overall health information the oura ring is very helpful. It is very accurate on the information that is recieved through the app.

The ring itself is very lightweight but still fits a little bulky on small fingers. The gold is a pretty color but does scratch easily. But the app is by far the best part of the Oura ring. The data provided really helps you make positive changes to sleep and lifestyle.

This is an amazing piece of smart health tech. I thought it was going to duplicate everything my smart watch does but it’s much more accurate and provides sleek data. Even though the price is a little steep I’d highly suggest the investment. It is very comfortable compared to previous generations since there are no bumps on the inside.

I got this to help track my sleep and stress in connection with my autoimmune and anxiety issues. So far it has been monumental in signaling a flare up, and it is helping my doctor and I with awareness of side effects of new medication. I did go on Amazon and get different covers to protect it and love it.

I had tried the gen3 before switching to the gen4 and honestly the fit is SO much better. Since the sensors are more flush with the ring nothing presses into your finger like it does with the gen3. So comfortable and I love the insights it gives me as well as the battery life.

As someone who suffers from fatigue I dedcided to give smart rings a try to see how I sleep and so far its been pretty insightful. When I have a crappy night of sleep, I can write what things happened before bed or during the night that way I can form pattern and improve my overall sleep. It did detect that I was getting sick. It clocked it on the second day, and I think the only reason it didn't click the first day is because I hadn't put in my cycle yet, and it was probably trying to figure out what day I was on. I think once I get through a full 28 day it will be very helpful with health insights.

I bought the Ring for my husband with the expectation that it would be a convenient option for notifications and activity tracking, and in terms of basic functionality, the product does its job. It’s comfortable and practical for monitoring certain functions, but for us, it fell short in the features we were looking for. The performance is good, notifications come through without issue, and the battery life is adequate. However, the device doesn’t offer as many options or customization as we had hoped, making it less useful for my husband’s daily needs. Pros: Basic functionality works well Comfortable and easy to use. Good battery life. Cons: Limited in terms of additional features. Not as versatile as other similar devices. Overall, the Ring could be useful if you’re looking for a simple device for notifications, but if you’re after something with more features, it may not be the ideal option.

This was a Christmas gift for my daughter. She seems to really enjoy it. Seems to accurately track her sleep and many other things. She came down with a cold and it knew her body was under stress.

The ring has given me the opportunity to really focus on my sleep quality and over my overall quality of life. It's sleek and stylish. I'm actually encourage friends to go and get the ring as well so we can be buddies on the Oura Ring app

Love this ring. The only thing I dislike a little is the monthly fee that comes with it. Other than that, it is a great smart ring.

In a class unto itself!! Between the app, the appearance, comfort, and overall performance, this is by far the best biometric ring on the market! A little pricy, but worth every penny! Checks all vitals in a very non-interference basis. Highly recommend!

I bought this for my husband. He loves the Oura. He recently had an issue with it (Oura warranty was great to work with) and he was really concerned about not having it working properly for a few days.

Love my Oura ring. Battery life is fantastic, and it charges quickly. I forget it’s even on my finger, it’s not bothersome like some other options for health tracking I have tried. The monthly fee is minimal and well worth it.
