It’s okay
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for hormone tracking and it works well for that. I don’t think the other features are all that useful though. I’ve had the ring for a month and it’s already tarnishing a bit which is disappointing.

A new fashion of health wearable
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Oura ring is the new fashion wearable health tracking device. This ring I have to say is beautiful and is very well constructed. If you don't mention it, no one will know it is a smart ring. Before I got my ring, I first received a finger measuring kit. Once I figured the size of my finger I went ahead and ordered the actual ring. Setting up was simple once you have downloaded the Oura app. There is no science to this, it is like wearing a smartwatch but in a smaller and more comfortable version. The ring itself is so light that I can’t believe it is made of titanium. The inside has few sensors that you can see them glowing randomly if you pay attention. It is comfortable and doesn’t feel different from any other ring. Just like other health wearables this ring will measure heart rate, track your sleep, oxygen level, steps and calorie burned. The Oura app is easy to use and has good insightful information. It is kind of similar to others but it goes a little more in depth. I really like the readiness section and the information it provides to get you ready for the day. Pretty much all the measurement reading from this ring is very similar to my smartwatch. I have been wearing both the ring and a smartwatch to compare the data between the two and they are pretty much similar. They are just off by a fraction. Another thing where this ring stands out is not just the beauty but the battery life. It has a rechargeable battery and it will last an entire week. I tested that and it did in fact last a week without charging. That's impressive for a device that is constantly on 24/7 and has such a small footprint. I really love the fact I don’t have to constantly charge it every night. This ring is also water resistant. I have taken showers, washed dishes and washed my hands throughout the day without removing the ring and it performs flawlessly. As any other piece of jewelry over time they will show signs of scratches, this ring is not immune to that. My experience has been positive. I don't see myself not wearing the ring as it feels natural and is easier to wear compared to a smartwatch. The only con I found is that you have to pay a monthly subscription if you want full insight of your data. You can get similar information from other wearables with no additional cost but the upfront for the device. With this you have to do both. Overall this is a beautiful creative fashion of health wearable. It is small, extremely light, l feels less intrusive and it looks beautiful. It comes in different colors and sizes. It has an outstanding battery life. If you don’t mind the monthly subscription you will love it. In the box you get the ring, charging base, USB-C cable, and manual.

By far the best health device I ever owned!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was super excited to try this device as I spent years testing different health monitoring devices, I can get my hands on to track my daily activities, monitor my heart rate, measure ECG, stress levels, etc. I was amazed by the amount of information this tiny little gadget captures every day. It's all about telling the right story from all the data it collects and Oura app does it the best. The patterns and trends on the health data started to make more sense after a week of data. Just looking at the daily "readiness level" I can gauge my interest and focus to carry on with rest of the activities I planned for the day as my day progresses. Can't wait to see the trend charts which I think would require at least a month's data. It also has a psychological effect on you and forces you to follow a routine, especially on your sleep timing and hours, to prepare for the day ahead. It nudges you to wind-down for the day as you get closer to your sleep timing and recommends a few activities such as meditation, deep breathing, etc. to help unwind for the day. Design Simple design, lighter, sleek look, with rounded edges and a little thicker than a wedding band. I had it for a little over a week and I felt very comfortable wearing it on my pointer finger all day long. I occasionally switch it to middle finger when I am out doing physical activities such as running or hiking for long hrs. as I noticed my fingers shrink a bit when I sweat and didn't want to lose my ring. The battery lasts 7 days and comes with a charger. I noticed it doesn't consume much battery during the day and the battery levels drop a few (5%-12%) percent at night as it's constantly measuring data. I charge it every morning and it only takes a few mins to fully charge. There are three bean shaped sensors that are in constant contact with the inside of the finger, didn't notice any difference or discomfort from those protruding sensors. Its water resistant up to one hundred meters. I did a little a little research to see what was new on the gen 3 ring compared to older ones - it has bigger memory and updated sensors for blood oxygen monitoring, heart rate monitoring, etc., and a new "Sleep Staging Beta" analysis which I liked the most. With location and access to other health app access it automatically recorded my workouts and displayed it on the Oura app. What does all that data mean to me? I am a person with high energy levels and do a ton of outdoor activities during the day and weekends. I was more interested in the "readiness number" and my "sleep number" to gauge my focus and motivation to carry on with daily activities that I planned for the day. I monitor those numbers change each morning and spend a few mins studying the underlying factors that contributed to it - heart rate (resting, average, and active) quality of sleep (Awake, REM, deep sleep, light sleep), body temperature, blood O2 (SPO2) levels, etc. The most relevant feature or the one that I am most interested in is the sleep analysis it does every night. I wore my Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 just to compare the data and I was amazed at how accurate the Oura ring data was. Kudos to all the study the Oura team did and the effort they put in to perfect this device. It's all about the quality of the data it collects and the ability to draw the right correlation to predict your readiness number, sleep number, etc., and detect deviations from normal activity on your heart rate, body temperature, O2 levels, etc. to predict an impending illness as your body alters those to fight off the sickness that’s brewing inside. So far, the numbers have been pretty accurate with other devices that I used as reference and now I just rely on my Oura ring to track my daily data. It is definitely on par with other health wellness tracking devices when it comes to the features and tracking your well-being on a daily basis, and it is worth every penny. To get the most value out of the data and charts, I would recommend spending some time reading through all the features and the contributing factors for the daily score it generates as there are lot of insights you can learn about body functions and recovery times. The most valuable thing I found from this device is my sleep pattern and the quality of sleep which I had no clue until now and am working on improving the numbers to increase my readiness level for the day ahead! Given the amount of information it presents, the subscription is well worth it! Love it to the core and I already have several of my friends looking to get one. BTW - this is less of a fitness tracker and more of a well-being/wellness tracking device! The web interface needs some improvements as it only shows a few trends and doesn't have the same level of details the app does. I would love to see the same data on the web as well on the daily charts and analysis.

Terrible, fades within 8 months.
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Loved it at first. The black quickly begins to scratch making it ugly to wear you don’t want to wear it. I have a desk job and no reason it should wear within 8 months. When I reduced out to oura they admitted the product is defective but refused to do anything about it. Way too expensive of a ring to have such a short life span and bad customer service.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first thoughts are that the Oura Ring Gen3 Horizon ring in silver is stunning and beautiful. I want to be open and honest in this review, so it will be prefaced as such throughout. As a man, whatever that means, I do not typically wear anything more than a wedding ring and a nice watch. I wear a smartwatch that is not an Apple paired with my Apple phone. I learned a long time ago that, for me, the use of a smartwatch was more than I personally required from a device. Sure, I like that it counts my steps and monitors my heart rate. I am just not one who feels the need to flick my wrist every time I get an email. I do a bit of cardio, and I do have a nice strength training workout that I hit three to six times a week as my life and motivation allow. I will not wear the smartwatch to the gym, or any jewelry for that matter. When I thought about acquiring the ring, I was aspiring to have a fine piece of jewelry to wear and be able to see what differentiated this unit from any number of other devices out there. Therein lays my other side of the coin issue with the ring. For me, it is just not super practical as a technological device. Not for lack of having and performing, but solely from me as the user. This ring reaffirmed that I am super impressed with such innovation and understand the value it can add. I just personally do not crave or need it. I also never searched for or shook my Christmas presents. The Oura app offers paid and non-paid subscription usage, so without saying, I believe you would gather where I would fall. There are a couple of steps if you are buying the ring online. Oura will send you a handy dandy ring sizer kit. The kit is a small box that has small plastic sizer rings. There is a quick video to watch that I highly recommend watching. I did not actually know my ring size, so every step was needed. For those that do, the video helps you know what finger size to choose and some of the nuances that Oura suggests for best usage functionality. My two hands, left and right, are substantially different. After watching the video and looking at some of the hand models, I chose to select a ring for my right index. After a couple of weeks of wearing it. If I were to get another one, I would probably go with my left index finger being that I am right-handed. Sometimes throughout the day, the ring feels like it is in the way, or I am afraid that I am going to damage/ scratch it. Do note that the exterior polish will scratch but is durable enough to not scratch on every little thing. Since the right is my primary hand, I do find myself moving the ring to my right middle, to my left hand, or just putting it in my pocket when the necessity arises. After selecting the sizer, the Oura Gen3 ring was delivered within like a day or two. Out of the box, the ring is noticeably unique with censors and an inner laid motherboard interior. I have the larger size and the ring feels quite masculine. The color is neutral enough that my wife is looking into a smaller one, as it would come a bit daintier sized. The ring was delivered to me with almost a full battery. My testing validates the claim of a seven day life cycle. I am currently just charging once a week with everyday usage. The app is cool and came to me with a thirty day free trial. There are a ton of useful self-help meditations and health guidance interactives. The neatest part for me is being able to monitor my sleep. Since I do not wear my smartwatch to sleep because the battery life requires daily charging. I do not wear my wedding ring to bed either so I probably would not even if it were not from a comfort level. The ring took really about two days for me to adapt to wearing overnight. I do not mind having one on while sleeping and wake up curious about my sleep score & breakdown as well as my readiness score. I value the data it provides me with and gives me insight into my lifestyle that I otherwise would not have had. I think more than anything that the impact of the Oura Ring Gen3 horizon is that it provides value in my life. It does so even as someone who does not as I have said crave or desire that data’s value.

Great Option But...It's Going to Cost You Monthly
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'll be honest...I really didn't expect to be impressed by the Oura Ring Gen3 Horizon. I thought my bases were well covered with my smart watch so I went into using this thinking that I would lose interest quickly. I was absolutely wrong! The first step in getting this ring was receiving the sizing kit and properly determining the size you need. I absolutely suggest wearing the test ring size for several hours at minimum performing your normal tasks to make sure it is the best size for you. As the brand mentions, your fingers naturally swell and subside throughout the day so you want to make sure that you choose a size that will accommodate that while still fitting properly for the best experience. After choosing your size you just complete the order and your ring is shipped fairly quickly. Initially I was concerned that the somewhat thick feel of the ring on my hand would be an uncomfortable experience...I opted to size for my middle finger versus the index finger which is the suggested finger to use (although the brand also states that the middle and ring fingers are good options too). I was able to adjust to the thick feeling fairly quickly so anyone with small hands or women that may not be used to chunkier bands should be fine. Setup was pretty easy following the prompts from the Oura app after fully charging the ring with the included charger (which is based on the ring size you choose so if someone else in your home also has a ring they may not be able to use your charger depending on their size). You do fill out a profile and the data provided to you will reflect your chosen goal(s) and life situation. The range of data that the ring is capable of tracking is impressive BUT keep in mind that after the first month if you want to continue receiving access to the full suite of features you will have to pay $5.99/month for the Oura Membership. You can opt not to get the membership and still receive the 3 daily Oura scores (Readiness, Activity, and Sleep) but it would be very basic compared to the wealth of data you receive otherwise. It is a little annoying that the number of subscriptions users must pay for to get full access to the tech gear the purchase requires but it is the way things are and is something to be aware of. As far a performance goes...the data I received was helpful (particularly the data on my sleep analysis which is extremely helpful for me being someone with chronic sleep issues). I find that using the ring for my sleep data is far better for me than wearing a watch all night. Because this is a ring all alerts and reminders will pop up on your phone (and in my case on my Apple Watch). Battery life is pretty good only needing to recharge the ring about once a week. Because there is no actual indicator on the ring you will need to glance at the battery level in the app or you will get an alert on your phone letting you know it's time to charge it. Charging is pretty fast...in about an hour and a half or less it will be fully charged. I also received one firmware update which took a few minutes to install but didn't require taking the ring off to get it done. Ultimately, I think this is a great option to get some very helpful data based on your needs. It seems to shine with the sleep data, heart rate info, readiness analysis, and cycle tracking with body temperature tracking. Unfortunately, unless you are willing to invest in the monthly subscription service you won't get much of that data which would deeply diminish the benefits of the ring. This is definitely something to keep in mind as it may not be worth it for some that just don't want to be forced into yet another subscription to get the real benefits of your smart devices. If you already have a smart device that gives you basic info and you know you don't want to pay for a monthly subscription you might be better off not getting this.

Great Fitness Tracker But With Subscription Costs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been wearing Oura ring for last 3 weeks and overall I am satisfied with it. I don't like that there is a 5.99 monthly subscription fee to get all the metrics and in-depth insights but other than that I think this is a good device for people who want to track their activities, fitness, sleep and overall health. Here are my observations: The buying process starts with getting a sizing kit to identify the correct size. As the ring relies on the good contact with the skin and is a device that you would want to wear most of the day, it is very important to get the right size. The sizing kit and the video explain the sizing process and I would advise that you should follow it to get the best fit as the data accuracy will depend on it. You would want the ring to be as snug fit as possible but at the same time it should not bother you after wearing for the full day or it should not rotate on your finger. This sizing process while absolutely necessary seems like a bit of pain. Once you get the ring, the setup is super easy. You charge the ring (using the charger that comes with it), download the app and pair the ring with your phone. That's it! You are good to go. The battery life of the ring is pretty good. Once fully charged, it lasts up to 5-7 days. On your fingers as well as in terms of overall design, it feels and looks just like any other ring/band. So, if you are used to wearing ring, you will find it very unobtrusive. Now, coming to the real part i.e. tracking health data. This is where it really shines. Here are key positives: 1. It can be worn all the times without coming in the way of your day-to-day activities (except if you lift weights in the gym). This allows it to track your health/data continuously which in-turns provide more accurate overall picture. 2. Due to above, tracking your sleep accurately is much more possible with it than my Galaxy watch. 3. The app provides data in simple terms (as well as in details) which is easy to understand and action. For example, when I get a readiness score below 55-60, I know that I need to do something before I go head on with my daily/work activities. 4. The data breakdown provides deeper insights (e.g. REM) that I hadn't noticed before with other fitness trackers. 5. A study (conducted by Oura so let's take it with a grain of salt) shows that measurements taken by the ring are more accurate than other devices like smart watches. So, overall I am enjoying this new gadget and taking action to achieve better health. As mentioned above, I don't like the monthly subscription to get all the insights and data and it is the only reason that I am not giving it a 5 star.

This isn’t rose gold. It’s gold
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My ring is gold not rose gold. I love the ring and it give me insight to things I wouldn’t know with an Apple Watch. But there is a price difference between mine and would like a refund. Also it’s not durable. So you would need a ring cover which makes it bigger on your finger

Effective minimalist activity tracker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As an older adult, one of the first things to diminish in quality was sleep. Toss in some stress, the ubiquity of blue-light emitting devices, and life in general, and good quality sleep is an important, yet frequently elusive pursuit. I’ve started exercising better sleep habits and tracking sleep to monitor quality and identify areas where I can make improvements. I was using a smart watch for sleep tracking but recently began using the Oura ring as both a fitness and sleep tracker. The Oura ring ships with a USB charging stand. No AC adapter is included but it works well with a typical 5W AC phone charger. I have the silver finish ring. It has a highly polished and mostly scratch resistant finish. The finish is indeed resistant but not immune to scratching. After a couple weeks of wear, I have numerous tiny visible scratches in the finish. Nearly all of the scratches are on the palm side of the ring and are the result of grabbing and handling doorknobs, car door handles, small tools, cooking utensils, tech hardware, aluminum foil, and from rubbing up against keys and other sharp items inside my pocket. I’ve also accidentally lightly bumped the ring against walls and doors, but it hasn’t encountered anything that my wedding band on the same hand hasn’t endured over the past few decades. It is holding up well to the minor impacts and daily wear. The top is still flawless. All scratches are on the underside. The ring has a notch to indicate the (palm) underside which is also where the three raised sensors inside the band are positioned. The ring is easy to care for and only requires occasional wiping down or cleaning of the sensors on the inside. The ring is also waterproof down to 100m but is mostly suitable for light swimming and snorkeling rather than SCUBA and deep water diving. Proper sizing is important for accurate results. Oura sends a sizing kit to determine correct size prior to shipment of the ring. The difference between a regular ring sizing kit and Oura’s is the inclusion of simulated raised sensors on the inside of the Oura ring sizers. It is suggested to wear the sizer at least 24 hours to determine proper fit. I ordered a snug size as Oura suggests. The Oura ring doesn’t currently come in half sizes. Optimally, I would be between sizes but had to choose between the ring being slightly loose or slightly tight. A half size would have been perfect but I opted for the tighter fit lower size. It fits comfortably snug most of the time but my finger sometimes swells from water retention or other minor weight fluctuations. This occasionally makes the ring feel tight and somewhat uncomfortable. I usually remove the ring when it feels like it’s compressing my finger too much. I haven’t had any difficulty removing the ring during swelling. For me, the Oura ring’s biggest strength is sleep tracking. I was actually considering purchasing an Oura ring for sleep tracking prior to being offered one for review. I was monitoring sleep with my smartwatch using both a third party app and native OS app for the watch/phone. The Oura ring is much more comfortable to sleep in by comparison. It’s not large and obtrusive like the watch. I like to frequently lay with my left (watch) arm underneath my head while sleeping. I can do so comfortably while wearing the ring. During sleep, the Oura monitors heart rate, HRV, sleep stages/quality, efficiency, timing, oxygen levels, and other vitals overnight. Getting sleep results the next morning is as easy as opening the app. Results aren’t typically available immediately, and can take over thirty seconds to sync. Even after I’ve been awake for a while, the app still tends to say “waiting on sleep results” the first time I open the app. I keep the ring close to the phone until the results finish updating. Accuracy of sleep results are good. Results aren’t exactly identical to my smart watch but are close and consistent enough that I feel both devices are accurate within tolerable limits. In addition to sleep, the Oura also monitors the following health/fitness measurables: Readiness. This is the primary score and measures a combination of sleep, heart rate, respiratory rate, body temperature, and activity balance to present an overall assessment of readiness. The higher the score, the better suited the body is for daily activities. Lower scores need to focus on recovery and improving sleep and activity to boost the score above the acceptable threshold. Activity: Measures overall activity, steps, calories burned and more. Goals can be preset for calories burned and steps. Results can be tagged to track patterns and environmental factors that may be affecting results. Historical trends are tracked and the app monitors and informs when improvement or worsening of activity and/or results, occurs. The ring can also detect and record workouts. Explore: This section includes slideshow style informational tips on topics such as mindfulness, sleep, activity, and ring features. It also has soundscapes for use while meditating, breathing, and improving sleep. Data is presented on easy to read and navigate tiles in the app. The app also sends reminders to move, wind down, and other health reminders/alerts. It also warns when the ring battery is low. The app syncs with the ring when opened. The Oura ring is a full featured fitness tracker but it really excels at sleep monitoring. It’s easier to wear while sleeping, less intrusive, and takes superior sleep readings compared to my smart watch. If comparing the two side by side, the Oura wins hands down as a sleep tracker but the smart watch wins overall as a full featured dedicated fitness tracker during the day. The readily accessible real-time health and fitness monitoring, productivity tools, and extras give the watch the edge. Also, the watch can be used independently of the smartphone and provide viewable data without the phone nearby. The ring can be worn away from the phone and is supposed to retain data for up to 7 days without syncing, but provides no real time data or feedback if the phone is not nearby. Ironically, on the flip side, one advantage of the Oura ring is that it allows me to wear my nice wristwatches while still tracking fitness. Smart watches have nice features and may hold a slight edge in personal preference for me, but they aren’t the most stylish accessories. Sometimes they seem glaringly out of place with my more formal clothing. The Oura ring is much more versatile as a fashion accessory.

Stylish smart ring for monitoring health
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using this Oura ring for a couple weeks now and I'm finding this to be pretty helpful in tracking/monitoring my sleep patterns. Initially, this is a very stylish device. I'm not one for wearing jewelry so this was something new for me. For those of you that don't know, the only difference between this Horizon ring and the Heritage is just the shape really. I liked the Horizon style since it's uniform and sleek looking. The Heritage has a bevel to it so a little more pronounced hump to it. Sizing is pretty critical here so they have a sizing kit with a bunch of different sized rings to try out. I felt I was in between a 10 and 11 so I wound up getting the 11. To note here on sizing, I'd recommend getting a size up from whatever you feel fits best. I wasn't aware that my hands, apparently, swell over night so had I gone with the tighter fitting ring, would've been a pain to get off due to my hand swelling. Setup is pretty easy so all you need to do is download the companion app and sync it with the ring. As you wear the ring, it collects info about your heart beat, blood oxygen, activity, sleep/naps, etc. Whenever you open the app on your phone, that data will get synced with the app and you'll start compiling historical data in the app. NOTE: I found it odd that you need to open the app to sync the data. I would've assumed it should/would sync automatically unless I'm missing some setting or something. After about a week or so, you'll start getting little notifications on your phone about going to bed at a certain time or getting up and stretching your legs. You can open the app to see all the data you've collected through this ring that'll give you more insight into that. Personally, I was interested in the heartbeat monitoring since that is of great importance to me. My sleeping was all messed up so this app is providing some suggestions/insights on how I might get better sleep and such. Overall, I've found this to be very beneficial. There is a monthly subscription for this service ($5-$6/month I think) but you get the first month free. As i understand it, should you opt not to continue the membership, your ring will still collect data and you can still view it in the app. You just won't get any analytics or insights from the app.

Spot on for health and activity
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been wearing the Oura non-stop for a little over two weeks. I wanted to reserve my review until it had time to settle in with the monitoring. In that time, I have charged it twice. This is truly a one time every six days thing, and it takes about thirty minutes. The charger has a good weight to it and there is no mistaking how to seat the ring to charge. The charger and usb-c cable are included in the box. The ring itself is beautiful and simple. It’s much lighter than I expected. It weighs less than my wedding ring, but it is substantial in size. Those not used to wearing rings will need to adjust to the feeling. I’m a ring person, so that was easy. Just know it sits a bit “away” from your finger, so your fingers on either side will definitely feel it. The box includes the instruction to grab the app. Can’t do anything without that, obviously, because the device itself has no interface. The app is intuitive and helpful with insights and explanations whenever you need them. Setup is a breeze, just walk right through it. The metrics measured include sleep, readiness, and activity. I found them all to be more accurate and detailed than my smartwatch. I love that Oura accurately detects workouts and even naps, then adjusts your readiness and other numbers accordingly. Oxygen saturation, period prediction (using temperature), heart rate, heart rate variability, types of sleep, respiratory rate, movement during sleep, breathing interruptions during sleep—and there are many more—are some of the information you get each morning. After two weeks, it starts giving you trends in the major areas to help see where you need improvement. Each morning it will let me know what to expect from the day and if I’ll need more breaks, etc than usual. The one annoying thing is the subscription reminders. Oura is a service, and the full experience is only continued with a paid subscription. The reminders don’t tell you how much for some reason. It’s a very low cost, and I signed up, but I’d have signed up sooner if they had made the low cost more obvious. This is an amazing device and a big leap for wearable tech. Definitely recommend.

Great alternative to a fitness watch
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am very happy with this ring. I was most interested in the sleep monitoring because I find it very uncomfortable to wear a watch while sleeping. From what I can tell it is very accurate in all measurements, not just while sleeping. Some features do require a subscription, but it is currently less expensive than the Fitbit subscription. I don’t like rings so tight that I can’t remove them whenever I like and so far I have not had any problems with the monitoring although this does not fit really tight. It is HSA approved but likely your HSA card will not work to purchase directly so you will need to use another form of payment and reimburse yourself. I travel and I was happy to find that it held a charge for over 5 days, there is no need to bring the charger every time. I highly recommend using the sizing kit before purchasing. So far a great alternative to a watch and I have not yet explored all the available features.

Almost everything I needed it to be
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Over the past year I’ve tried out a few different devices with the promise of a more analytical approach to activity, sleep, and recovery. Each one has come with its disappointment that eventually makes me move on to the next. Enter the Oura Ring, the latest contender for my health data (and a little bit of my money every month) and let’s talk about the positives first. Anything that isn’t a watch, watch-like object, or wrist/arm band automatically scores points with me. The Oura Ring is without a doubt beautiful and easily conceals it’s high tech sensor array. The app is STELLAR, and I would say the insights it gives have been more easily understood and applicable than anything else I’ve tried so far. It’s very much the Goldilocks of fitness apps, fitting nicely in the space between ‘not enough information’ and ‘way too much to process.’ Setup is super easy, the charger is fast and easy to use, and the initial configuration takes no more than a minute or two. So that’s a lot of positives - now comes the one negative that will likely be the dealbreaker for me. While it can read information from the iOS Health app and sync up a lot of things (including exercises recorded by that device), it doesn’t have the ability to pass back an exercise you start from the ring to the Health app. This limitation means Health isn’t getting the full picture of what you’re doing. It may not be a big deal for people who are not training heavily, but as someone who is in the gym 5-6 days a week it leaves me with inaccurate picture of my progress. Aside from that, it’s only somewhat good at picking up when you’re exercising at a moderate level - say strength training, and a little too good at picking up other activities that aren’t exercise. If Oura can fix the first issue, I can manage the second one, and can live happily ever after.

Biometric Readings With Style
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Oura Horizon Gen3 ring is both a stylish ring and a full blown sleep, mind readiness and activity tracking smart device. The ring simply captures this information from you while you’re wearing it and downloads it to the Oura App. The Oura app records that information and does trending on your data to provide insightful advice to improve your overall well being. Much of the data analytics does come at a cost; a monthly membership fee is required. Let’s start with ring sizing; Oura will send you a sizing kit which includes various plastic rings at different sizes. The sizing kit is very informative and even provides a link to a video to aid in the sizing process. When you determine the perfect size for your finger of choice, you simply submit that size through Oura’s website. No need to send anything back, which is good. For me, I sized using my index and middle finger as they were the “meatiest”, so to speak. Turns out I can use the ring on either finger with the size I chose and it fits as they require; just snug enough to pull your skin when you rotate the ring around your finger. It needs to be a level of snug for the sensors to read your body activity. The ring captures three main metrics: Sleep, Readiness and Activity. Each provides insightful information in its area and is presented altogether in a summary page for that day as well as individual pages that dig deeper into your data. I’ve learned that the summary page that highlights all three areas and their scores are more than enough to ensure you’re doing well throughout your day. It will provide a simple tip such as trying to get more sleep or try to pay more attention, for instance. But when the scores go bad…then it is really worthwhile to drill down into the specifics. For instance, I’ve worn the Oura ring for a couple of weeks and my scores have been more or less consistent. The Oura ring didn’t really tell me anything out of the ordinary other than how it came with those numbers, which is very interesting to say the least. Then I took a trip to Las Vegas…and oh boy. But let’s start with the good stuff. My Activity scores were great due to the amount of walking done during my visit to Sin City. About 10 miles of walking and about 20,000 steps were recorded by the ring and I had surpassed my daily calorie burn goal. I even recalled when I took a breather (as my daily movement recorded was zero from about 4PM to 8PM). And with walking and resting, I can see what my heart rates were during those times (higher while I was out and about, and lower while I was taking a break). My Sleep scores? Terrible. I was able to see that I only slept 4 hours that night. Out of those 4 hours, only 24 minutes were allocated to REM sleep, which is definitely not enough with respect to the total time slept. I can even see throughout the night when I was moving around versus when I was completely still. This ring is pretty wild. Finally, my Readiness scores, which was also very below average for me. I wasn’t sure how to interpret that data, but it looked like it revolved around my heart rate and its variability, as well as sleep. The Oura app will also make mention of your scores the day prior to see if there was a drastic change. I guess the point I’m trying to drive at is that the Oura ring and its App can detect changes to your body that might be unexpected. My Las Vegas trip was expected, and I knew it was a good opportunity to see how I can skew my Oura scores. But again, what if you don’t know?? This little device can be very helpful in those situations. Now as a male, I can’t really comment on a woman’s period detection, but I can see how the Oura can precisely trend that data and give you a heads up. But men can definitely benefit from using this ring daily. As far as logistics, the ring itself is very lightweight, yet sturdy. The outer shell is made out of titanium, which is very light and keeps the internals very well protected. There is a specific way it has to be worn, with the sensors pressed against the underside of your finger. The Horizon ring has a little dimple on the outer ring that is used as a marker to make sure the sensors are in the right place. Battery life is advertised for about 7 days, and I am getting close to that, but honestly I do drop it on the included charger base for about an hour every 3-4 days when I wake up in the morning right before I go to work. Easy peasy. When you’re ready to offload some data to the App, simply open the app and the ring will be automatically detected via Bluetooth. I do have one complaint about the ring, and it’s not the ring’s fault. I do love to weight train and cannot wear this while I’m doing it, for obvious reasons. So you won’t be able to track those types of workouts that require you to hold a dumbbell or a barbell if you intend to keep the ring unscathed or damaged. You’ll have to revert to some wristband-type activity tracker. And finally, there is a small drawback of owning a ring like this. All that cool data and information provided by the app? There’s an associated monthly membership fee. According to their website, it is $5.99/month for US members, and $6.99 for the rest of the world. Can the ring be used without the membership? Most certainly, but you will only be provided a simple score for Sleep, Readiness and Activity. But if you are a member, you will be given opportunities to try new innovations provided by the Oura team; I’m currently using their “Sleep Staging Beta” feature that is supposed to enhance sleep staging accuracy. I’m guessing there’s more to come. In the grand scheme of things, $5.99 is less than a burger combo at your local fast food joint. Overall, I’m very happy with the Oura Horizon Gen3 ring. It’s effortless to use and is very stylish. And it’s making sure you’re doing well, healthwise.
