Love the looks and the easy of use. This is a replacement from my APC spike protector that didn't stop a surge that fried my receiver, router, printer.

I purchased two Panamax M5300-PM surge protectors and noticed immediately an improvement in sound and picture. The setup was easy and the Best Buy associate explained how to hookup a Direct TV receiver to the surge protector. The input and outputs are bidirectional for coaxial cables.

Good, but not worth 5 Stars or $500

I've had this unit for about 2 weeks now. Looking at the functionality, it has two main features. They are power conditioning and surge protection. I can't tell if there is any "power conditioning" going on, as everything looks and sounds the same as my older Monster Power Center. Nothing is worse though. I'm sure it's protecting my equipment and if it's not there is a great warranty and protection plan. What I can say is that it is very well made, sturdy, and good looking. However, the lights on the front are bright. You can turn them down but not off. I find that if they are all the way up you can read it, but it is distracting. If you turn them down it makes it hard to read. I am not sure what it is (maybe the lit rings) but the numbers are difficult to read at any light level. I am comparing this to looking at the displays of the rest of my equipment. I can read those fine. Another point to note is the USB charging port. It will charge my mp3 player, but not my phone. My phone will charge if I plug it into my computer though. I bought this unit for a few reasons: I like how it displays both volts and amps, it is rack mountable, and it has plenty of outlets (the one on the front is great). It works. I would never spend $500 on it though as there is not enough reason to over any other surge protector. I got this as a floor model for half price. If you can get a good deal, it's worth a look. If not I'd look at the 4300. It doesn't have the amount of outlets nor the amp meter, but I think it would serve 95% of the customers very well.

    Up In Smoke

I purchased this unit to help protect a number of vintage audio units that I had restored. The last being a Mitsubishi X-10 upright vertical record player. I spent over three years with a soldering iron and a magnifying glass, not to mention sourcing parts... to see it was completed. I plugged it in to this unit, and was still in the testing phase when all heck broke loose. I’d been doing some work on it, and had left to go to the store for some parts, only to come back and there was smoke everywhere. It was the X-10. The tv next to it was plugged into a surge protector from dollar general, and it survived fine. The only other item in the house that had been plugged into a wall outlet at the time was a microwave in he kitchen, and it too had taken some kind of a surge. I still have the microwave, and it will only heat items 1 minute at a time now. A few months later, after a storm, I discovered from the power company that the power line from the street to my home was actually perforated in someway, it needed to be replaced. But that was before I spent hundreds on this unit, and thousands upgrading my home electrical system for no reason. In any event, this unit did absolutely nothing to protect that X-10 from the surge that Destroyed it and three years of labor. While I don’t see this as likely being a common problem....I certainly can’t give it any higher than two stars. And only then because it looks pretty cool
