Great when it works
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This player looks great. The only problem is that once in a while, I get sound but the picture drops out. When this happens, if I unplug it and wait a minute, then plug it back in, it then works fine.

Meh…
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Still can’t figure out how to get anything other than Netflix and Prime to display on screen. Not user friendly and you better have teeny-tiny fingers if you want to press the right buttons on the remote! They are CRAMMED together! Guess I’ll be forced to print out my own user manual. Whaddya want for 500 bucks?!?!

Glitchy performance - would not recommend.
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This player is a huge disappointment. It has no tolerance for slightly damaged DVDs (such as are common from Netflix DVD) and often stops playing in the middle of a movie. Usually when that happens I can put the dvd in my 10-year-old Samsung player and it will play the DVD with no problem. I’m sure this player has many great features, but with this flaw I feel it was a waste of money. I wish I had returned it when I could have.

Updated 4K Blu-Ray Player
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upgraded my old blu-ray player to one that is 4K capable. To be honest, I can't really tell the difference from my old player. Also, I think the remote on this player is not very well thought out.

Never worked a single time
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this player 2 months ago for prep in building my home theater. Huge lesson there. I finally got the room built yesterday and find out that this player is dead on arrival. It will not play any blu-rays or 4k discs. The only thing it'll do is stream amazon/netflix. All my discs work perfectly fine on my cheap player and on my PS4, but this one won't play a single one. It will show "reading" for 2-3 minutes then pop up that it can't read the disc.

A complete disapointment!!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Other than the sound this DVD player is horrible. It does not display 4K DVD movies any better than something costing $50.00. Its Amazon streaming has momentary freeing or skipping, I am struggling to find the word for it. I don’t have this issue with any other streaming device. This is not a $500.00 device. Oh, and for the folks out there that might think it is my TV, think again I have an LG OLED TV that is great. Enough said.

Blown Away
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this along with a 2019 Samsung Q80R and it’s amazing. 4K Blu-ray’s will make your draw drop. Literally. And it actually upscales standard 1080p Blu-ray’s REALLY well to the point where they look amazing! Highly recommend this player. Loads discs extremely fast. Remote is solid.

Video artifacts and stuttering using UHD discs
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picked up this model to try out Dolby Vision playback in UHD Blu-ray discs. But when I tried playing a movie, I was getting bright spots flickering across the screen. I also noticed that the video playback in the menu for the disc would frequently freeze and then jump. I tried a different UHD Blu-ray disc and hit the same issue. Looking online, I've seen similar reports. Perhaps it's a bad unit. I ended up returning it and stuck with playing UHD discs on my Xbox.

Best player currently on the market.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No other player has the amount of options and features that this one does. It's worth it for the HDR optimizer alone. If you've ever disliked how dark your HDR movies are, this player will solve that problem.

This Panasonic Player Bests My Oppo UDP-203!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a short review for now, but I will add to it as I spend more time with this player. In the short time I have owned the Panasonic DP-UB820 I have been very impressed. This a solid unit in all areas with the exception of apps. At present there are only three apps available: Amazon, Netflix and YouTube. If you are comparing this to the Oppo you're up by three. By design the Oppo does not support apps. The Panasonic GUI hasn't really changed since I purchased the first Panasonic BD player they put out. In my opinion it is decent, but I would love to have Panasonic spiff it up. The Oppo GUI looks so much better. Next up is build quality. There is no contest here. The Oppo has a higher build quality than the DP-UB820. BUT the Panasonic is still very well built and hefty compared to units like the Sony UBP-700. I have three other Panasonic BD players and all are still running as good as new. Where the Panasonic really stands out is picture quality. I was expecting the Panasonic to have slightly inferior PQ compared to my Oppo 203. Much to my surprise the Panasonic has better PQ than the Oppo! The color palate is broader, colors are richer and there is more detail apparent in the PQ of the Panasonic compared to the Oppo! This unit just puts out an absolutely breathtaking picture. This is especially true for native 4K (both disc and streaming) but also when upconverting standard Blu-rays and DVDs. Upconverted BDs look VERY close to native 4K discs, especially if the BD is well mastered. The sound quality of the Panasonic and Oppo are very close. Both sound excellent for both movies and music. To my ears the Panasonic sounds slightly warmer with a bit more detail than the Oppo. The Oppo has a colder more clinical sound. The remote on the DP-UB820 is really it's weak spot. Having had three previous Panasonic BD players I am very familiar with the remote layout. Having said that this remote has the "Top Menu", "Netflix" and "Home" buttons too close to the navigation buttons. As a result I find myself constantly hitting the "Home" button for instance instead of the right navigation button. It's really annoying! The other great thing about this Panasonic is that it now is firmware upgradable to handle all three of the most common HDR formats: HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. It does not support Technicolor's HDR format, but I am unaware of any 4k player that does at this time. There are very few TVs that support Technicolor HDR anyway. To sum it all up this is simply a brilliant 4K BD player. It's nice to see such a great player from Panasonic. They have always made great audio and video products and the DP-UB820 continues that tradition! SInce Oppo is no longer producing players I firmly believe this is the best 4K player out there PERIOD. Now if Panasonic would start making audio components again I would be a very happy man!

Wants to connect direct
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can't attest to the actual performance of the component. I tried to run it through my pre/pro, and it kept trying to connect directly with the television. As you can imagine, this led to connectivity problems and it would not function. It may be good for a direct to tv connection, but if you have discreet components, this probably isn't the deck for you
