highest end blu ray player and it was not region free

Would not play alot of.flash drives stick with my OPPO

Two and a half years ago I purchased a very expensive brand name Blu-ray player that never really worked well and finally stopped working altogether. I had an old Panasonic Blu-ray player (over 10 years old) that still worked fine so it filled in while I decided what to purchase next. In short, I watched a number of videos describing this player’s operation and decided to give it a try. I believe it displays a better image than my previous Blu-ray player especially with upscaling dvds. There were problems setting up the sound. One of the main reasons I chose this model was because it had an optical input. At first I couldn’t get it to work. By reading the operational manual I learned if you use an optical input you first must turn off the audio HDMI. Did it. Still no sound. So for a day or so I was stumped. Finally by trial and error I changed the PCM mode to bit stream and it worked. Great sound. Maybe somebody knowledgeable with all this stuff would have known from the get go what to do but that’s not me. One other thing, it has a fan but the only time I have hear it is when I am playing a dvd, why I don’t know. Once the show gets going I don’t hear it. It has never distracted my viewing experience. Two and a half years from now if it is still playing this well, I’ll give it five stars.

Didn’t last very long! now the disc tray won’t open. I will be returning. Shame on you Panasonic

The five star rating is based on the UB820's performance as a pure disc player. It is, in a word, outstanding, even besting my beloved Oppo-203. It's HDR Optiimizer does tone mapping to match the brightness level of your TV (especially OLED sets) or projector. This evens out the image, decreases the overly bright highlights and increases the brightness of darker scenes of HDR10 releases. It's Dolby Vision image is beautiful. Regular Blu-rays are up-scaled perfectly. The 820 can play MKV video files on an external drive but it cannot play lossless audio (DolbyTrue HD, DTSMA-HD, Atmos) on MKVs. It will play Dolby Digital 5.1/7.1 and DTS 5.1/7.1 audio. The unit comes with Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime but like the Oppo-203, this baby is primarily a disc player but with a few extras. The biggest issue is the remote that comes with the unit. It's terrible. It pays to buy the remote for the UB900 on Ebay or elsewhere. It works with the UB820 and is light years better than the supplied remote. If you want the best image possible from HDR10 and Dolby Vision releases and superb Blu-ray 4K up-scaling, the UB820 is for you. If you're more interested in steaming apps and all kinds of video/audio combinations in external files, you may want to look elsewhere.

It’s a 4K player. Thought it was gonna make my 4K projector look better but it didn’t

Upon receipt, did not play Blu-Ray, did play DVD. Returned fo Sony.

I bought this Blu-Ray player in 2020 when I finally made the move to an LG CX OLED and after being wowed by the amazing picture quality of the tv, I knew I needed something dedicated to play the hundreds of blu-rays I've been collecting over the years. After owning it for 4 years, I can't say anything negative about it aside from the fact that Best Buy stopped carrying physical movies in the stores which limits where I can purchase my movies. The players plays everything I throw at it and if something doesn't play, yeah right, everything that I put in plays like it should. I have the player plugged into my Denon X4700 so I can get the best sound out of the Blu-Rays and the best picture out of my newly upgraded LG 77 G4. If you're on the fence about getting this awesome machine, don't hesitate because they really are trying to get rid of physical media all together and streaming just does not compare to watching the movie from a 4k Blu-Ray.

Got a great deal for Open Box. Didn't even look like the box was ever opened. Everything looked brand new. Nothing was missing. This the probably the best 4k Blu Ray Player at this price point. The video quality with Dolby Vision is phenomenal. The audio options are top notch, but I just wish it had a blue tooth, so that I could use it with my blue tooth headphones.

Overall picture quality and sound is excellent, I would dare say even a bit better than the Oppo 203 I had. The menus are easy to navigate and the HDR selector is a very innovative feature. Two complaints, one minor and one major. The minor one is that in my opinion there are just too many ways to customize the picture. I'm finally happy with the settings but it took a while. The major complaint for me is how it handled playing the 4K UHD discs of Planet Earth II. On Planet Earth II discs one and two, After I hit Play all, The HDR goes off and stays off. I have to manually turn on HDR optimizer to get it back. Only one out of 10 times did the HDR go off and then came right back on when the first scene began. I believe someone else also reported this issue in an online forum. Im hoping for a future firmware fix.

Very easy and quick to set up. The picture quality is stupendous. The unit is so easy to use whether I'm watching a DVD, Blu-ray or 4K Ultra HD. I highly recommend this player for a novice or expert!

My first impression that this is the best 4K player out there and I have a few of them. Long story short it is outstanding. The remote on the DP-UB820 is really it's weak spot. Having had two previous Panasonic BD players I am also very familiar with the remote layout. Having said that this remote has the "Top Menu", "Netflix" and "Home" buttons too close to the navigation buttons. As a result I find myself constantly hitting the "Home" button for instance instead of the right navigation button and the Netflix button also in the way. It is really annoying! Panasonic the remote sucks. The Dolby Vision is great. This handles all 3 major HDR formats. There are a lot of setup options that will overwhelm you but that makes this unit extremely flexible if you have the background on setting up equipment. 5 Stars even with a non finger friendly remote which I would have given and overall 4+ stares but that is not and option.

I just got the player last week ordered I on Best Buy.com great player it kind of looks like the ub900 has 2 hdmi inputs . picture quality is excellent . 4k blu ray perform great , loading times are good performs like a premium player. blu ray up convert is very good also .

Let me start by saying that I've owned the first generation Samsung player, 2 of the Sony players, and 2 of the LG players so I've seen quite a few different players and they've all had some sort of issues. I've seen a lot of good things about this player so I took a chance and ordered it since I got a few different gift cards for Christmas and man I'm glad I got this player! This player is by far the best one that I've ever owned! I really like all of the different settings that this player offers over all of the other players that I've owned. The one setting that was very helpful was the setting where you can chose what type of display that this will be hooked up to for proper tone mapping on that type of display. I have an OLED and I could tell a huge difference when I switched it to the OLED setting. The picture quality is amazing!!! If you're looking for the best player on the market then look no further because this is the one!!

very fast shipping and excellent service. DVD player is easy to use, hookup, and use remote control. clarity of picture is incredible when using 4k DVDs. highly recommended. much better than equivalent price point Sony unit other than not being able to play DVD music is all.

This blu ray player is awesome! Deep satisfying bass and audio and the picture quality is stunning. It handles HDR and Dolby vision and more. You will not be disappointed

It is quicker than my previous Sony 4K player. The picture is even better. The manual in the box is not much, but the full manual is available on line. This unit has a lot of customizable settings for picture and sound. Also, lots of outlets, including RCA 7 channel plus separate HDMI for audio and audio and video combine. Reviews indicate that the player has the same chip set as panasonics top of the line $1100 player, for less than 1/2 the price - difference is the chassis materials (the expensive one is metal). I don't use this device to stream, so I have no comments on that. I recommend this unit without qualification. I still have to read all of the manual and shut off the voice prompt system, which I find annoying. Great unit!

This is by far the best picture I've ever seen and it is all thanks to this 4K Blu-ray player. I replaced an older Sony that I had in I thought the picture could not be better at all, but it blows me away. I wanted the best picture I could get and this one fit the bill, I wasn't going to spend thousands of dollars to get the best Panasonic out there. But this is everything I can help it to be.

The picture quality for 4k blu rays is incredible. Streaming features and apps are horribe. You are better off using your tv or another dedicated streaming device. I also didnt love the user interface.

Excellent picture. Easy to set up. Good remote. The down side is everything is on the remote you cant even eject with out the remote!
