Compact & Stylish with Great Performance

This HP Pavilion All-In-One packs a lot of computer into a relatively compact space. It’s got powerful performance, and looks good, to boot. I’m very happy with it, but there are a few small things that I wish were different.
Set up was easy, as the machine comes almost completely assembled. All I had to do was connect the power adapter, put batteries (included) into the keyboard and mouse, and plug their wireless receiver into a USB port (more on that later).
The form factor is impressive in how much it packs into a small space. The screen itself measures 23.5” wide by 13.2” tall, with a 1.25” bezel around it on all four sides, plus the speaker bar on the bottom (1.25” tall), making the whole thing 26” wide by 17” tall. The computer itself is around 2” deep, and the base of the built-in stand is 7.5” front to back. That stand tilts forward and backwards to get a comfortable viewing angle, but is not up-down adjustable. The bottom edge of the computer is always roughly 3” above the desk.
All ports and buttons are either on the bottom (power button, video input toggle button, USB-C port, combined audio in/out headset jack, SD card reader) or back (USB ports, power adapter port, HDMI in/out, Ethernet), making for a very clean face. If you often connect and disconnect USB devices, it might be annoying to have to reach around the back every time. I wish there was a standard USB port on the side somewhere more easily accessible. There’s also a side-loading DVD drive on the back of the computer. It feels a bit delicate/flimsy but works fine.
The screen is bright and bold, with great colors, visible from a wide range of angles. It has a glossy surface, not matte. That seems pretty standard these days, and works fine for me, but if you’re working in a room with a lot of bright lights, there may be glare. There are both output and input HDMI ports. You can use the HDMI out for a second screen, projector, etc. like most other computers. The HDMI in port is new to me, though, and allows you to use the screen as a monitor for another device, like a game console. My wife needs to use her employer-provided laptop when working from home, so the ability to use this machine’s big, beautiful screen as a second monitor is very convenient.
The speaker bar along the bottom sounds fantastic, and not just compared to computer speakers. Music is clear and crisp without distortion across the spectrum and at all volume levels.
The wireless keyboard and mouse come with two AAA alkaline batteries each, which need to be installed, plus a receiver. There is no wired option for the keyboard and mouse, and I was disappointed that one of the USB ports needs to be taken up by their receiver (as opposed to an internal receiver). It’s also disappointing that the keyboard and mouse use regular batteries rather than being rechargeable like a lot of aftermarket wireless input devices. You could put rechargeable AAA batteries in, but there’s no way to recharge them in place.
The chicklet-style keyboard is larger than my laptop keyboard, but compact (consistent with the overall design aesthetic of this product). If you're used to a full-size desktop computer keyboard, it might feel a bit crowded. The mouse is stylish and gets the job done, but it’s lightweight plastic and feels a bit cheap.
The webcam captures a high-quality image and audio, and there’s a physical cover that slides over the lens for privacy when not in use.
The hardware specs “under the hood” can speak for themselves, and I haven’t performed any benchmark tests or anything like that. I’ll just say that I’ve loaded a few modern games, streamed a couple of movies, and opened an Excel spreadsheet with a ton of data and complex formulas, and so far, performance on this machine has been great. The Optane Memory does seem to allow the computer to deliver an experience consistent with a solid-state drive even though the main storage is a traditional hard disk drive.
So, overall, this is a great computer with a lot of power crammed into a compact and stylish body. If I could give 4.5 stars, I would, since it’s not perfect, but I can tell it’s going to be great for us, and I’d confidently recommend it, so 4 stars alone didn’t feel like enough.

Huge screen!

This computer is great! The screen is huge. The setup was very easy, all you have is the monitor, keyboard, mouse and power cable. For an all-in-one it has a slim profile and is not that heavy. I like that the keyboard and mouse are wireless, a lot of cords just looks horrible. Since the screen is on the bigger side/wide, I recommend a decent sized computer desk if you plan on having a printer next to it or speakers etc. I like the white on silver finish makes it look good. The speaker quality is great, no muffling when turning the volume up, very clear. The touch of fabric at the bottom of the screen where the speaker is a nice touch. I appreciate the CD drive is barely noticeable. There are enough USB ports along with hdmi ports. I love the keyboard, compact very responsive, not so much the mouse feels like it will break. Touch screen a bonus, but I prefer not to mark up the screen with finger prints. Over all the design is top of the line, screen, sound quality is great. Keyboard is nice, a great all-in-one option.
