I still can't get used to the switch not having analog triggers. So the first few minutes with a new switch controller always feels so strange. That being said, The Afterglow series of controllers have come a long way from their days of cheap clear plastics that shattered if you so dared to look at them wrong, and the overall lighting is far better now too, rather than a single solid color set of LEDs now we have a range of full RGB LEDs and a few modes of operation, a few simple button combinations let you cycle through the 3 modes or turn off the lights outright as well as several different brightness levels. You have the pictured mix of RGB goodness as the default, but you can switch to a solid always on, a breathing mode, or off. When in the solid always on or breathing modes, you can cycle the colors to your favorite by holding down the little mode key on the bottom center of the front of the controller. Using left or right on the dpad to cycle through. Holding that same button and pressing the triggers will cycle brightness, and the bumpers change modes. It's all really easy to change. The buttons and sticks though are the most important. This is a game controller in the end, not just a light up toy. For me the tension of the sticks is good, and the buttons are nice and clicky with a decent travel distance that I dont think they would feel bad to most gamers. Those with more picky tastes might not like them D-pad itself might be a little stiff, so fighting game fans might want to see if a friend has one of these to try it out before buying. It works for me, but your mileage may vary on that. I mainly play games like fire emblem, splatoon, and LoZ on my switch, this controller works great for those, and since it has the motion sensors in it as well, you can get the most out of splatoon with gyro aiming.

It’s a pretty good controller besides the lack of vibration, gyro controls, and some more, The lighting is cool, it can switch from different colors, and intensities, Though the white joy sticks seem to get dirty easily which requires some cleaning.

The PDP Afterglow Wave Wireless Pro Controller for the Nintendo Switch is pretty awesome. First off, the lights are just cool—seriously. It’s definitely one of the better-looking controllers out there. The most important part is how the controller feels. Using it feels great. It’s comfortable to hold, and the weight is just right—not too heavy, not too light. I noticed it’s a little bigger than the Nintendo Pro Controller, but honestly, it didn’t take long to get used to it. The buttons and joysticks are responsive and feel good to press, so you’re not fighting the controller during a game. Connecting it to the Switch was super easy. It synced up right away with no problems, and the wireless connection stays solid while you’re playing. Just does what it say and works. Overall, I’d say it’s a great option if you want a controller that works well and also looks really good. The lights, the comfort, and the solid performance make it worth it. It’s a little bigger than the Pro Controller, but that’s not a dealbreaker for me. Definitely happy with it!

    An OK Colored Controller

The Afterglow Wave is an ok controller. It functions fine with the Switch. I like that it easily connects wirelessly without any additional dongle. It's just as responsive as the factory one. Right out the gate it looks really cool with the lighting effect. You can switch between the 4 presets without downloading the app. Feels good and ergonomic in the hands. It has a long lasting battery. I played Mario Kart and Donkey Kong Freeze. I couldn't get the motion to work with Mario Kart. Playing Donkey Kong for less than 30 minutes made my thumb start to get sore on the joystick. I'm disappointed that the rubber is harder and rougher than the factory controller. I was close to getting a blister from a short amount of play. PDP claims this controller has a textured non-slip grip but it's still very slippery. I would of expected something more rubberized not just slippery plastic. I didn't really play any games that would utilize the programmable back paddles but I often accidentally hit them. I suppose I'd recommend this. If you don't typically have issues with getting blisters during gaming then this might not be bad. The color adds some pizzazz to your gaming for sure so I really like that. I just wish there were more quality materials used.

Does not support NFC.... so no Amiibo support...

There’s a lot of love about this controller and I really wanted to, but it is missing one show-stopping feature for my Switch needs: It does NOT have a built-in NFC reader making it incompatible with Nintendo Amiibo. This fact is not mentioned anywhere on the product packaging or the user manual. Let’s talk a bit more about this otherwise excellent controller. As an officially licensed product, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the Afterglow Wave with the official Nintendo Pro controller. The Nintendo Pro Controller provides a stickier grip and includes a slightly higher curve to the hand grips while the Afterglow uses less of an angle and loses some of its grip because of the LED light channels that run the length of the handgrips. It’s also not as thick as the official controller making me curious exactly how much bulk an NFC scanner adds to the equation. There are also two additional programmable buttons on the rear of the Afterglow grips which I found my middle fingers pressing more often than I would have expected. While the joysticks and controller buttons are identical to the official controller the Afterglow reverses the Home and the Plus button on the right-hand side of the controller and does the same on the left hand side as well which to me is a terrible design choice. The Nintendo Switch is 7 years old at this point and muscle memory is a huge factor for gaming. For those of us who have used the Pro controller from the beginning changing up the buttons for what I can see serves no actual purpose is just plain on mean and spiteful. The addition of a Function button to be able to control the RGB patterns is a nice touch, but I especially appreciate the use of the RGB pattens when the device is charging. Nintendo’s controller includes a tiny orange button at the top which you really have to look for to know if the controller is charging. For the Afterglow Wave I love that the the entire front is lit up in Red when it’s charging and then shifts to Green when it’s complete. I’m about two years into my current Nintendo Pro controller (having replaced it twice already) so it’s difficult for me to tell if the Afterglow Wave controller buttons are better or just new but they certainly feel more stiff than my current controller which I think is a good thing. Overall a crisp set of buttons to mash is always appreciated but my main games are the Zelda series and having spent a fortune on collecting every single Zelda Amiibo and using them daily in the game, not having NFC support in the controller is a show stopper for me. If you don’t need NFC support this controller would definitely be on my list of recommendations for any Switch users in your life.

    Decent controller

It’s a decent controller little pricy though feels good, hard to understand how to map the back buttons and tgey are really the only reson I’d suggest getting this over the official pro controller granted the switch 2 now has a official pro with back buttons however $30 more so in that regard fair price. But it being closer to normal pro it’s harder because yes no back buttons but you get amibo reader on pro not this only useful if you really play breath of the wild or tears so overall if you dont care about amibo suport id say good buy if you do yes you lose back buttons but pro granted i did call out new pro having both but add that $30 extra for best of both
