This is a pretty decent Pro controller substitute that has the added benefit of RGB lighting. Battery life and connectivity seem to be decent, and the build quality is, for the most part, respectable. I found the button controls and thumbsticks to be a little squishy, and have to wonder how well they'd perform in any game that requires you to repeatedly hammer the B button or rapidly throws stick left and right to shake off an enemy. They were better than I expected, but there's a little looseness that makes me a bit apprehensive about how they'd hold up under pressure or over the long term. The weight and handling is decent, and the plastic is is sturdy (without reaching the brick solidity of the Pro controller build). Triggers and D pad also seems to get the job done without any issues. The lighting is neat, but unless this is an absolute must for your controllers, it doesn't add much to the experience *while playing.* You're looking at the screen or monitor; not your hands. It's still impressive to marvel at from time to time, though. The customizable buttons on the back were kind of a miss for me. Maybe I have large hands, but I found them to get in the way of a more firm grip on the back. These could come in handy for some games, but their placement on the back is a bit regrettable. Overall, this is a step up from most third party Pro controller-type controllers, but still noticeably weaker in some respects than an actual Pro controller. If you want durability, good construction, and just the best controller for playing your Switch games, then get the Prom. If you don't mind a little button squishiness and really want that RGB lighting (it is pretty), this is a good alternative that's almost as good as the Pro.

    Super Showy Switch Controller

Let's face it: dominating your friends in Super Smash or Mario Kart is only so much fun with the normal switch controllers... but let's say you could blue-shell your way to 1st place with a glowing blue controller? That's a whole new level of "in your face". In terms of fun and cool factor, this controller fits the bill nicely with some different pre-sets you can engage at the click of a few buttons. You can also customize the back buttons pretty easily to have different functionality (PDP puts the manual online so it's easy to figure it out even though there's minimal documentation included with the actual device). Functionally, the controller does exactly what you want it to do: it's responsive with motion controls and all the standard buttons are snappy and have a good feel. It's hefty without being HEAVY. There's no rumble/vibration response as far as I can tell, but I kinda prefer that anyway. The controller is VERY comfortable in terms of ergonomics, but I did have a tendency to click the back buttons on accident pretty frequently... especially when picking up or setting down the controller - there's no "safe" way to pick it up without accidentally firing off one of the buttons. I did notice I was able to play longer with this: my hands did not get as tired or cramped as they normally do with the standard two Joy Controller setup I play with. Setup and charging time were very speedy, but as others have noted, there doesn't seem to be any battery indicator on the device. So far I've gotten several hours of play out of a single charge, lights blazing. My default is to plug things in every few sessions anyway, but the lack of some sort of wireless charging option is a little frustrating when so many other things are heading that way. I don't like having to keep track of yet another USB-C cable. One of the bigger problems with this controller is that your kids will insist they get to play with it, so... you're probably gonna want more than one if they game with you. Overall, this was a nice addition to my Switch.

The PDP - Afterglow™ Wave Wireless Controller for Nintendo Switch™ is a visually striking and comfortable controller. The design is impressive, with vibrant lighting that adds a cool aesthetic touch. The controller feels great in hand, offering a comfortable grip during extended gaming sessions. In terms of performance, the button and joystick layout is intuitive, ensuring a seamless gaming experience without any unexpected actions. The battery life is commendable, lasting through 2-3 hour gaming sessions without any issues. Charging the controller after each session ensures it's always ready for the next use. Wireless connectivity is reliable, with no lag or connectivity issues even at a distance of 15 feet from the console. The build quality is solid, with a sturdy feel and good weight, indicating durability. All components, including buttons and joysticks, have held up well over time. While I didn't utilize the programmable back buttons, the RGB lighting zones were a fun feature to customize, allowing for a personalized gaming setup. For the price, this controller offers excellent value, especially with its wireless functionality and comfortable form factor, which is a significant improvement over the OEM controllers. Overall, the PDP - Afterglow™ Wave Wireless Controller for Nintendo Switch™ is a great choice for gamers looking for a reliable, aesthetically pleasing, and comfortable controller.

Great Pro Controller for Nintendo Switch

The PDP - Afterglow™ Wave Wireless Pro Controller is a great controller. I like the buttons, which are large and flat, and have a satisfying response and click. Likewise the control sticks are offset like other Switch controllers and feel good to use. They are responsive and have a good tactile grip making them comfortable to use. The grip of the controller feels comfortable overall. It’s smooth on top with a hashed grip on bottom and the controller is a good size for my large hands. The Dpad also feels good and is responsive. There are also 2 programmable buttons on the bottom of the controller if you like that configuration. The controller has motion control for games like Tears of the Kingdom and Mariokart 8, but the controller doesn’t have rumble features. This controller is a bit heavier than my other 3rd party pro controller, but that’s actually good, because it feels sturdier and more substantial in my hands. The main selling point for the Afterglow Wave controller that sets it apart from standard pro controllers is the LED colors. The colors are cool. You have multiple options for color and glow patterns that allow for personalization. This is especially nice for couch co-op sessions where you might want to set yourself apart from other players. Overall, his is a great 3rd party pro controller for the Nintendo Switch that feels good to use and features fun customization.

    Cool RGB Budget Friendly Controller

This controller plays just like a regular switch pro controller from Nintendo with the added benefit of programmable back paddles and cool RGB lighting. Connection was quick and simple so you'll be gaming in no time. I did find that this controller felt a bit heavier than a standard pro controller from Nintendo which you can probably contribute to the bigger battery on the PDP Afterglow. The PDP Afterglow has a 2100mAh rechargeable battery which can provide up to 40 hours of gaming but I have yet to run out of battery life while playing Zelda, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros for the past week. I also haven't noticed any quality issues with lag which I have experienced on other third party controllers that I stopped using for that reason. The PDP Afterglow has motion control capability and although it works I'm not a huge fan of it in some games. I usually turn this feature off while playing Mario Kart. Overall, this is a solid controller to have especially if you're on a budget and want the added coolness of RGB and ability to program the back paddles.

Cool Light Effects, Good Grip & Feel

What I like the best about this controller are the different colors and how they are displayed on the controller in a “wave” pattern, as well as glowing around the two joysticks. Very cool looking! You can pick and choose and customize the light effects and the back buttons. Of course it is wireless, with a good long range, and has a built-in rechargeable battery that utilizes a handy USB-C type connection. I also take comfort and assurance from the fact that this is an “official” Nintendo Switch licensed product, so it should pair and work flawlessly with the Nintendo Switch, which it really does. There are no printed instructions to be found in the box, which is slightly annoying, but there is a provided QR code that you can scan to download them. After that, easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy, you are good to go after a simple and quick, easy pairing process. The feel of the controller while playing is quite good; it fits nicely into your hands where you can get good positioning to reach all the buttons and the joysticks with ease. Excellent ergonomic design.

Out of the box improvement to controls for Switch

The PDP - Afterglow Wave Wireless Pro Controller with Motion for Nintendo Switch is a handy little controller. For the adult gamer with bigger hands it really affords you a better level of control that what comes with the standard tiny Switch controllers. Those little things always frustrate me. Having a normal sized controller really improves my gaming experience. The controller is easy to setup right out of the box. It is wireless and works at about a 30ft range. The grips are textured to afford you a level of non-slip comfort. It has a rechargeable battery built-in and so you can easily charge it up between sessions. I got roughly 20 hours of usage out of it on a full charge. The controller comes with built-in RGB that you can customize to make it a little more stylish than a first party controller. And finally it comes equipped with additional buttons on the back that you can customize and map to various functions in game, giving you additional controls beyond the standard controllers. I still can't get used to the switch not having analog triggers. So the first few minutes with a new switch controller always feels so strange. That being said, The Afterglow series of controllers have come a long way from their days of cheap clear plastics that shattered if you so dared to look at them wrong, and the overall lighting is far better now too, rather than a single solid color set of LEDs now we have a range of full RGB LEDs and a few modes of operation, a few simple button combinations let you cycle through the 3 modes or turn off the lights outright as well as several different brightness levels. You have the pictured mix of RGB goodness as the default, but you can switch to a solid always on, a breathing mode, or off. When in the solid always on or breathing modes, you can cycle the colors to your favorite by holding down the little mode key on the bottom center of the front of the controller. Using left or right on the dpad to cycle through. Holding that same button and pressing the triggers will cycle brightness, and the bumpers change modes. It's all really easy to change. The buttons and sticks though are the most important. This is a game controller in the end, not just a light up toy. For me the tension of the sticks is good, and the buttons are nice and clicky with a decent travel distance that I dont think they would feel bad to most gamers. Those with more picky tastes might not like them D-pad itself might be a little stiff, so fighting game fans might want to see if a friend has one of these to try it out before buying. It works for me, but your mileage may vary on that. I mainly play games like fire emblem, splatoon, and LoZ on my switch, this controller works great for those, and since it has the motion sensors in it as well, you can get the most out of splatoon with gyro aiming.

It’s a pretty good controller besides the lack of vibration, gyro controls, and some more, The lighting is cool, it can switch from different colors, and intensities, Though the white joy sticks seem to get dirty easily which requires some cleaning.

The PDP Afterglow Wave Wireless Pro Controller for the Nintendo Switch is pretty awesome. First off, the lights are just cool—seriously. It’s definitely one of the better-looking controllers out there. The most important part is how the controller feels. Using it feels great. It’s comfortable to hold, and the weight is just right—not too heavy, not too light. I noticed it’s a little bigger than the Nintendo Pro Controller, but honestly, it didn’t take long to get used to it. The buttons and joysticks are responsive and feel good to press, so you’re not fighting the controller during a game. Connecting it to the Switch was super easy. It synced up right away with no problems, and the wireless connection stays solid while you’re playing. Just does what it say and works. Overall, I’d say it’s a great option if you want a controller that works well and also looks really good. The lights, the comfort, and the solid performance make it worth it. It’s a little bigger than the Pro Controller, but that’s not a dealbreaker for me. Definitely happy with it!

    An OK Colored Controller

The Afterglow Wave is an ok controller. It functions fine with the Switch. I like that it easily connects wirelessly without any additional dongle. It's just as responsive as the factory one. Right out the gate it looks really cool with the lighting effect. You can switch between the 4 presets without downloading the app. Feels good and ergonomic in the hands. It has a long lasting battery. I played Mario Kart and Donkey Kong Freeze. I couldn't get the motion to work with Mario Kart. Playing Donkey Kong for less than 30 minutes made my thumb start to get sore on the joystick. I'm disappointed that the rubber is harder and rougher than the factory controller. I was close to getting a blister from a short amount of play. PDP claims this controller has a textured non-slip grip but it's still very slippery. I would of expected something more rubberized not just slippery plastic. I didn't really play any games that would utilize the programmable back paddles but I often accidentally hit them. I suppose I'd recommend this. If you don't typically have issues with getting blisters during gaming then this might not be bad. The color adds some pizzazz to your gaming for sure so I really like that. I just wish there were more quality materials used.

Does not support NFC.... so no Amiibo support...

There’s a lot of love about this controller and I really wanted to, but it is missing one show-stopping feature for my Switch needs: It does NOT have a built-in NFC reader making it incompatible with Nintendo Amiibo. This fact is not mentioned anywhere on the product packaging or the user manual. Let’s talk a bit more about this otherwise excellent controller. As an officially licensed product, you’d be forgiven for mistaking the Afterglow Wave with the official Nintendo Pro controller. The Nintendo Pro Controller provides a stickier grip and includes a slightly higher curve to the hand grips while the Afterglow uses less of an angle and loses some of its grip because of the LED light channels that run the length of the handgrips. It’s also not as thick as the official controller making me curious exactly how much bulk an NFC scanner adds to the equation. There are also two additional programmable buttons on the rear of the Afterglow grips which I found my middle fingers pressing more often than I would have expected. While the joysticks and controller buttons are identical to the official controller the Afterglow reverses the Home and the Plus button on the right-hand side of the controller and does the same on the left hand side as well which to me is a terrible design choice. The Nintendo Switch is 7 years old at this point and muscle memory is a huge factor for gaming. For those of us who have used the Pro controller from the beginning changing up the buttons for what I can see serves no actual purpose is just plain on mean and spiteful. The addition of a Function button to be able to control the RGB patterns is a nice touch, but I especially appreciate the use of the RGB pattens when the device is charging. Nintendo’s controller includes a tiny orange button at the top which you really have to look for to know if the controller is charging. For the Afterglow Wave I love that the the entire front is lit up in Red when it’s charging and then shifts to Green when it’s complete. I’m about two years into my current Nintendo Pro controller (having replaced it twice already) so it’s difficult for me to tell if the Afterglow Wave controller buttons are better or just new but they certainly feel more stiff than my current controller which I think is a good thing. Overall a crisp set of buttons to mash is always appreciated but my main games are the Zelda series and having spent a fortune on collecting every single Zelda Amiibo and using them daily in the game, not having NFC support in the controller is a show stopper for me. If you don’t need NFC support this controller would definitely be on my list of recommendations for any Switch users in your life.

It’s a decent controller little pricy though feels good, hard to understand how to map the back buttons and tgey are really the only reson I’d suggest getting this over the official pro controller granted the switch 2 now has a official pro with back buttons however $30 more so in that regard fair price. But it being closer to normal pro it’s harder because yes no back buttons but you get amibo reader on pro not this only useful if you really play breath of the wild or tears so overall if you dont care about amibo suport id say good buy if you do yes you lose back buttons but pro granted i did call out new pro having both but add that $30 extra for best of both
