Great potential - useless due to frozen screen

Was one of the first to get this watch from Best Buy online. It worked great for a total of 24 hours and then froze with no way to reboot or fix. Pebble recommended to wait for the battery to drain and then recharge and restart. Screen froze again, so I sadly had to return it yesterday and get my money back. This appears to be a common problem and its obvious that the quality control and testing of this first batch of Pebbles was either incomplete or non existent given that I am hearing that a lot of others are having similar issues.

Does seem to need to be the first paired device. Wish it showed battery life for watch. Does show battery life for phone.

    Good hardware, mediocre software

The hardware is great, and I have no complaints about its most basic functionality. Unfortunately, the one alert I most want to receive on the watch is calendar events (meetings, etc). A known issue with Pebble on iOS is that it often fails to capture Calendar events. The "toggle on and off" solution only works for a few hours. Being that undependable, I'm already considering selling this long-awaited watch. Pebble, please fix your software!

    Worked for 2 days

I bought it on the Best Buy release day. The pebble immediately transmitted all notifications including news. On day two, it was not pushing notifications so I reinstalled software, rebooted both watch and phone and reconnected - I finally started to get some notifications again. On day three nothing would get notifications working for any app, phone calls, sms, calendar, reminders, email, news etc. It's too bad it does not work. The ability to use multiple watchfaces is a very cool gimmick, you can cycle through them with the up button. Overall it's a $20 watch trying to do what a $400 watch should do and not succeeding at being a value or a high tech wonder.

Just received the watch, less than a day in, the vibrate motor already broke down. Customer service for Pebble is not the best or lack of customer service.

    Unreadable in Sunlight

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I really wanted to like this watch. It was easy to connect to my Android but hard to find functional and practical apps. Most of the watch faces available for download were silly and sometimes unnecessarily vulgar graphics. When I finally found a useful downloadable watch face that contained an all encompassing practical time/date format and weather alerts, I had to spend several hours of trial and error downloading-installing various background system apps in order for it to work. Despite some technical difficulties, I would have kept the watch until the first time I wore it outside in the sunlight. In the direct sunlight, cloudy dark spots appeared that obscured the watch face data. I returned the watch and exchanged it for another Pebble. The second Pebble had the same sunlight issues. I don't think this watch is quite ready for prime time.

    So much potential here.

I loved this toy while it worked --- but that didn't last long. The last person who called me last night is still listed on the watch face. No response from any buttons. It broke my heart to return it to Best Buy. However, after reading many reviews, it appears that this device is not yet consumer ready. Or at least not THIS batch of Pebbles.

Save your money people and wait for the real companies to make their smart watch. I love the idea of my Pebble, it is very handy but wow, what a cheap piece of garbage. Definitely NOT worth $150. It is completely sealed and un-repairable, screen scratches so easily and it's very large & gaudy. I am shocked the Pebble is making its way into a retail store.

    malfunctions

This watch is capable of great things, but has malfunctioned many times. The screen becomes blurred and unable to be read. I brought it back to best buy with in 45 days of purchase, and they could not help. Told me to contact the manufacturer.

    Fail.

I was pretty excited about this watch. After a couple of days I returned it. It was alright when it worked and maybe it works better with a droid than my iPhone. The screen had some strange blemishes. The whole thing seemed very cheap and I expected more. I'll wait until there's better options.

    Better luck next time

I bought watch with the high hopes of not having to pull out my phone just to see the latest message or who is calling. The watch would connect for the first 10 minutes or so. After that no messages would could come through, I would reconnect and again for about 10 minutes and again it would then fail. I will buy again when version two comes out.

    Poor quality

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Its feels cheap, although it looks cool. The conection stinks! Name of person who is calling is not shown, out of 10 messages perhaps 3 will go to your watch. The screen looks like a cheap calculator from 1980´s. The only really cool thing are the interchangable watchfaces, I think it is in the only aspect where it is a better watch (not smartwatch) than the metawatch frame which has only 4 watchfaces (all digital looking and not that cool as opposed to the pebble). Apart from that I would highly recomend the Metawatch frame. Much nicer look and feel (metal and glass finish which feels solid), better conectivity, and much much much better support. The metawatch has the disadvantage of the screen that it is very reflective so in bright light it is hard to read. Either product is just for tech geeks, since both need major changes, buuuut if you are going to buy one, dont even hesitate, trust me I have both and I feel completely riped off by pebble where as I love my metawatch.

Technology of 80s on your wrist

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

First I will start with display. It is plain old LCD from 80s what was used 30 or so years ago. Impossible to see if you wearing Polarized glasses. It is only Black and White. I hopped it will display good letters, but it is still very dotty. Kind of reminds me pre-Atari game console screen. Build quality. Very cheap plastic. They had plenty of room to put Solar panels on the top for charging, but they did not. As a developer, I looked on the way to develop for this. This is very immature and very poor execution. Interface is not stabilized and will break in a future. There is no future for this thing. Now Bluetooth - where it fails the most. It constantly interfere with my car Bluetooth and my ear headset. It tries to overtake music controls and finally hangs Bluetooth driver on the phone, so I have to reboot, then re-pair all devices. I had to do it once or twice a day. In the other words, this one not worth more than $10. Going back to BB.

    Interesting idea, poorly planned

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I like the idea of a smart watch but this one doesn't really do much. I have a hard time even calling this a smart watch. It will occasionally show incoming texts although you can't do anything beyond read them. It will show the phone number of an incoming call sometimes as well but they are having an issue getting caller ID to be transmitted to the watch so unless you recognize the phone number, it doesn't help much. Also, they say it's an e-paper screen but I think it is actually an LCD screen (don't quote me on that one I am merely judging but what it actually looks like). I honestly cannot recommend this quasi-smart watch this given the huge crop of actual smart watches expected in the next year or so. Do your research before you buy this model. If you're patient and can wait a few months you can get something that's actually useful instead.
