Great coffee the way you like it
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have to start by saying that for $800, I am expecting a lot from a coffee maker. This is by far, the most expensive machine I have ever had. That said, this “espresso machine” is so much more than I’ve ever had. There is so much to love on the Philips Series 3200. It is a very versatile machine that should satisfy most any fan of ground beans and hot water! -It does so much! This machine will make coffee with two different adjustments. You can change between three different cup sizes and three different intensities of brew. It will also make espresso and espresso based drinks with the milk frother! For espresso, you have the same adjustments as coffee but there is also a button for Americano. For espresso based drinks, the frother takes care of heating and frothing the milk in the attached milk cup. It will make cappuccinos and lattes. The milk frother is the best I’ve used. I hate the separate frothers that plug in, they don’t heat well and they are a pain to clean. This one is a three-piece cup that hangs on the front. The machine pushes steam from the bottom of the cup and up a tiny “tube” in the side of the cup and out the top. At first I thought cleaning that “tube” was going to be a pain but that is where the different pieces come into play. The black piece on the side unclips from the clear cup and exposes the tube on the side. It is now completely open and you can just rinse it out! -The coffee/espresso tastes great! A lot of machines out there do brew coffee and espresso but they make the “espresso” by concentrating the brew, not using pressure like espresso should be made. The 3200 uses pressure to brew, up to 15 bars which is the ideal pressure for espresso. The lower pressure brew for coffee is great as it provides a crema in your coffee, which is a light layer of flavorful foam just like you get from a good espresso. -Storage and clean up were smartly designed. You can brew with beans, which is the main method, but you can also brew single cups with ground coffee. The main portion of the top is where beans are stored. It has a seal around the edges to help keep the beans fresh since you will store beans up there. There is a small hopper door for the pre-ground coffee which is a really nice feature. I like to have decaf coffee in the evenings so I keep some ground coffee for that. As far as clean up, it has been pretty easy so far. All the used coffee grounds drop into a cup that sits in the drip tray. The tray slides out from the bottom, the cup sits in the middle. You can pull the cup out and dump the grounds then dump the tray with excess water in the sink. -It is not perfect. There are some things I’m not as fond of. For one, every time you turn the machine on, it heats up for 20 seconds or so, then dispenses a couple ounces of water into the drip tray. I assume this is to clean the pipes from the previous brew but it does use more water because of this. This brings me to the water storage, it could be larger. I feel like I have to fill it more often. Another little complaint is that my travel mug does not fit for dispensing. I have had this issue with other coffee makers before but I can usually remove the drip tray and brew. You cannot do that with this machine. When the drip tray is not installed the machine will not operate. I’m pretty sure it is because of the dropping of coffee grounds. If the tray is not in, the grounds would drop inside the machine and make a mess. Overall I am extremely pleased with the Philips Series 3200. It is so versatile and makes very flavorful coffee. I used to use a Keurig for coffee and a Tassimo for espresso as well as heating milk in the microwave. Now I only have this machine to use. It takes up far less space on the counter than the two other machines and I have a very easy to use, do-it-all machine for my caffeine fix!

Not the quality it claims.
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased a little over a year and a half ago and its already breaking down and leaking. That's an awful lot of money for a coffee maker to not work for years to come.

Nice and Compact Automatic Coffee Drink Maker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Philips 3200 is a compact, sleek, automatic coffee and milk (espresso, macchiato) drink maker. It's plastic finish is matte black with an ok build quality, on par with typical kitchen top appliances. It's not too heavy which is nice if you can't locate it close to the sink for easy cleaning. Once set up, you can see usage is pretty simple. A power button plus buttons to select what you'd like: one or two shot coffee, espresso, americano, cappuccino latte + hot water dispenser. There are additional buttons to select the level of coffee bean grinding, coffee strenth, and milk level/froth level. Getting started is pretty quick. Load up beans in the top tray and water in the pull out resevoir on the right hand side. You'll add the water after your initial prep of the filter. Just shake it up, dunk it in water for half a minute, then install in the resevoir before filling with water. You'd then need to activate it by pressing the button which will run a bit of water through it (make sure to have a cup to catch that). If making a latte or cappuccino, you'd also fill the milk dispenser. After that, coffee making is straight forward, hit the button for the drink you'd like to make and let it do it's thing. The grinder does a good job and I didn't notice any clogs or issues with the beans. You can also add pre-ground beans for those who like to exert a bit more control over the experience. When they say automatic, it really is that way. My personal favorites in testing were a double espresso and a latte macchiato. The machine works relatively quickly - or at least in what feels like a normal amount of time from watching this get done in smaller coffee shops. The grinder is a bit loud, but not at a level that I found annoying. The milk resevoir has level indicators to let you know how many drinks it has "left" but the capacity is small enough that if you're making capuccino or latte macchiato for several people, you should have the milk jug nearby for refills. One thing that is cool is that one the double shot setting, you can either have a double in one large cup or make two singles at a time. In retrospect, I should have read the manual first :). In summary, this is a sleek and useful espresso maker, particularly for the non expert looking to perk up their mornings or weekend get-togethers with friends. It works well, is easy to use, and covers the more common favorites. I suppose for high volume cappuccino or latte drinkers, needing to refill to milk regularly could be a pain, but honestly it seems about right for home use. Clean up is pretty simple. Everything disassembles quickly for easy rinsing and then can dry out in a dish rack.

TERRIBLE
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am an MD and my partner is an architect so we are not dumb. Setting it up took hours. The manual is horrible. It refers to nonexistent figures and website links. It worked for 2 days then stopped dispensing coffee. All the water and ground coffee going into the waste tray. I did all the troubleshooting things suggested for several more hours. This thing is terrible. It’s so expensive that it should come with a butler or at least work perfectly but it sucks!!

DO NOT RECOMMEND PHILIPS COFFEE MACHINE
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had my Philips Intuita and after 12 years I had a water dispenser problem, than I sent to Philips repair center, they made my Coffee machine worse. I decided to buy this one thinking it was aging issue, After 8 months of use, this machine ran out of service with same water dispenser issue (not making coffee), I contacted Philips since it is less than 1 year and shipped my machine to the repair center again but different location. Just got it back and came worse than before such as no water coming out, no gridding the coffee bean, loud noises, missing screws, duty, side panel not assembled well. Now I am trying to ask my money back and couldn't get it yet.

Defective Machine Out of Box
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only reason I don’t give this a 1 star review is that the idea behind the machine and design isn’t bad. However, the materials are all cheap plastic which caused the machine not to operate properly. Watery coffee no matter how many adjustments or cups of coffee were made. You should not have to waste coffee beans in order to ensure all settings are right or to give the machine time to adjust (didn’t work in this case).

Not so great
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My expectations for this machine was pretty high...though that came crashing down over the course of a few days of using it. Still I tried for a week nonstop multiple times a day, while also changing the settings, but no matter what -my coffee never came out strong enough. I also used different brands and blends. And not the starbucks kind. I go to a shop that sales fresh roasted coffee beans. I tried espresso and regular beans..light or dark. Nothing I seemed to do made the coffee stronger. I had to return it. Maybe I got a defective one who knows but I don't recommend and especially for the price.

Obsessed!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s like Starbucks in my kitchen 24/7 and nice to replace 2 machines (coffee k-cup and espresso) with one machine. Completely automated, just add coffee beans and cream.

Ok but not great.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good but not great. I guess I was hoping for a little more out of this machine. There are to many inconsistencies in the milk, espresso, etc.. "Coffee and Americano" are pure swill and undrinkable. I can't tell the difference between the macchiato and the cappuccino, they are exactly the same. I feel kind of foolish spending what I did on it.
