Customers highly value the ease of use and backlit keys of this 8-device universal remote. Many appreciate having one remote for multiple devices and find the illuminated buttons helpful, especially at night. However, some users experienced compatibility issues with certain devices and reported shorter-than-expected battery life. The backlight feature, while appreciated by many, may contribute to faster battery drain.

Not what I was looking for. I wanted something that would turn on all devices (TV, Surround Sound & Tuner) with push of one button.

If all you need is a basic universal remote, you can find one for half the price of this one that will work better.
Pros)
-Find me button on your phone app.
Cons)
-Limited ability to fine tune the settings by maker. It's an all or nothing approach, so if your model has some weird setting, your out of luck.
-Some devices only work with certain buttons up top. My stereo would only work as STRM and not as AUD, even though I chose the same maker each time.
-No ability to learn remotes. I had a basic universal remote in 2007 that could do this and yet in 2021 I could not find any way to do this. I've got an HDMI switch that will not work with this and even though I have the old remote, I can't teach this one what it needs to know.
-It lists Xbox, but not which one. I tried on my Xbox360 and it did not work, so probably not that one.
-Didn't include batteries. At this price point that is a no no.

New Generation is an improvement

I generally use the native remote controls for my devices for TV, Audio, DVR and others. I do this because I owned several different early-generation universal remote control devices. I remember the frustration of trying to find the compatibility code for each of my devices only to have to try and try again to enable the universal remote work with my specific devices. That was 10-15 years. I decided to give it another try with the Philips 8 Device universal remote.
Like most every device today, you have to download another app on your phone in order to program the remote. I'm not a fan of having to do this with most every electronic device these days. Companies value gathering your personal information (since you have to register to use the app) over the customer experience with their products. Despite my pet peeve on this issue, I downloaded the app. I found the process of programming the remote to be quite easy. I was able to program my Samsung TV, my DVR, home audio receiver and more within minutes. I'm used to using my DVR remote (TiVo) which has far fewer buttons. I believe there are too many buttons on the remote to enable your mind to remember which button to hit without looking at the device. Apple has been experts at the simplicity of a remote control device. I was hoping this device would be somewhat easier to use.
I'll admit this device is far better than early generations of universal remotes. I believe this device was made for people who want to (or are forced to by a spouse/partner) to reduce the amount of remotes on the coffee table. For that purpose, this is a solid device.
I'll continue to try to get used to it but I feel I may revert to my native device remotes.

Doesn't work for my application

I got this remote for my basement home theater to simplify turning on all my components. Once I scanned the documentation's QR code and downloaded the setup app, I started simple by setting up my projector, Xfinity cable box, and my stereo receiver. The backlit keys on the remote were nice and visible, definitely a plus in a dark basement theater room. The app was simple and intuitive to use when connecting my devices but unfortunately it would not recognize my Xfinity box or my Marantz receiver. It the app does not first recognize your equipment, it will continue to search for addition codes until it locates the correct code. However, it ran out of codes and said to call some 800 number for more help but I ran out of patience for that. In fact, I probably would have gone ahead and tried the 800 number but in programming the remote I realized it is IR-only. Perhaps I missed that on the website so I went back and checked again but still don't see where it says its an IR-only remote. That is a big problem for my setup since I have components located in an equipment closet, therefore only RF remotes are going to work. Plus I'd have to walk in front of my projector every time so the IR signal can turn it on. At the end of the day, this remote is just not going to work for my application.

All-in-one remotes aren't a new thing, but this was so simple to use. with the app you can select exactly what device (or at least the exact company for the product) you want to control.
In a few minutes after putting in batteries and loading the app to my phone, I was able to clear off the living room table and put all of the remotes in the drawer... except of course this one.
Very pleased with the uncluttering this provided.
