Yes there are much more inexpensive alternatives. And while the world of IoT (Internet of Things) is certainly a network security nightmare, I try to stick with products not developed in China to try and give myself at least a little more security. Combine these with a Vlan (Virtual Lan) set up ( do not use the default or Native VLAN 100, make up some number) to isolate these from other smart home devices and you are golden. While priced higher than other brands, these give the most vibrant colors, best response time. And are more easily integrated into a Smartthings / Alexa home.

The Hue color bulbs really change the feeling of a room. The app is very straightforward to use. I would highly recommend them if in the market for a smartbulb setup.

I tried to buy and install. Set up using iPad or smartphone and relax that it’s not hard to do. Tested colors of lights and really beautiful too. Love it.

We are trying to make our house a smart home while using products only compatible with Apple home kit. Philips hue is compatible with Apple home kit and quite easy to use on your phone. The bridge makes it easier to use with your phone. You can control the percentage you want and you can turn it on or off with your phone. It’s worth paying a little extra and essential for making your home smart

These do everything as advertised, sharp colors, easily programmable, initial set up was a challenge, but once operating, they are very easy to control

I love the color lights. I downloaded the desktop app and it syncs to my music to give a fun experience . Easy set up but the app took some work

The lights work great with Siri. They are lots of fun for my grandson. He loves to see the lights change colors. Everything works well together with Homekit.

A little tricky to setup at first, as the hub needs to be hard lined to your router (a rather annoying feature). The lights themselves are awesome. Love the colors and the customization options within the Hue app. Highly recommend if you want to add a fun pop of color to your house, or if you want to add convenient lighting to lamps not otherwise connected to a switch. The switch is also a must (and fun to setup). If your WiFi goes out, you will not longer next able to control the lights with the app, but the switch will still function normally.

Nice starter kit to dabble you smart lighting. I didn’t have any issues setting up. I’m using a third party app to get the lights to play in sync with music and it’s been loads of fun. LIFX bulbs have better color and are brighter than HUE bulbs for sure. I’m going with HUE because of the hub.

I've tested most of the brands in smart - lighting and I can tell you, with confidence, this will probably be the most dependable lighting your can get. I havent had a single glitch, light fail to turn on or off via the app, fail to turn on or off with our Amazon Echo, fail to work with a routine set, and the app has never froze or stop working. It just works. I even have had a bulb outside in a light fixture, which Hue doesn't recommend, and haven't had an issue. It can be pricey, when not on sale, but sometimes there's a solid reason why the price is what it is.

After years of building up my collection of home automation devices I decided to share my addiction with my brother. I bought him this starter kit. Phillips Hue is not the best for deep, rich blues and greens. There are also other light options that don’t require a hub. Moreover, Hue lights tend to be among the most expensive. However, what Hue does better than anyone else is creating a wide variety of product options that work together flawlessly. A single hub manages my devices in multiple rooms across multiple floors. The phone app allows me to use old iPhones and tablets as remote controls for all of the lights in the house. This coupled with Google Assistant, Alexa or Siri means that I can set the lights to any brightness and color In any room from anywhere in the house. It may sound trivial to some people but if you’ve read this far then you care about setting the perfect mood for a movie, bedtime, meditation or party time. This starter kit will get you on your way!

I love my Hue lights! The integration with Alexa is amazing. They were easy to install and setup. And there are so many colors to choose from!
