I have the 3 lights linked with Google Home. Easy setup. You can verbally tell GH to turn all lights on/off at the same time or individually on/off. You can evenly verbally tell GH to change all the light colors or individually. Using the Phillips Hue app, you can choose from a gazillion colors using color palette. The Phillips bridge is a hub to each of the lights. The hub connects to your local network by Ethernet. Overall very fun. Kinda pricey per bulb.

Very pleased with the Philips Hue lights. Choosing colors is fun but mainly use the white light. Being able to change the Calvin rating is great for different times of day or for reading vs. watching tv. Looking forward to switching all my lights over down the road. Only negative is the price but with more competition coming out I am sure they will start dropping the price soon. The fall 2017 update sounds promising if companies like Netflix jump on board. The update will allow third party streaming services to sync with Hue. So for example Netflix could possibly sign on and then the color lights would sync with whats on the tv for a more immersive experience. Heres hoping!

I have had other smart bulbs and this is like the other LIFX i have but more colors
They had an issue from recent update and was down for 2 weeks
The LIFX does not need a hub like these do that is the down fall but the new alexa has a built in hub...but lifx does not need 1 period!

Just screw them in and download the Phillips Hue App. Easy set up and in addition to shades of white, millions of colors. Amazon Alexa controls them now for me.

Smart home 101

I have dedicated a lot of resources this year to putting together "my smart home." The Phillips hue light set is an important player in an this set up. Every night I find myself telling my google home to adjust to a different scene I have programmed into it.
Friends and family love coming over and experienceing what I have put together. That being said I do find the Phillips Hue lacking in a few areas
Brightness is my largest complaint. Sure if I have two of them on one lamp it works out great. But that can be pricey for some people. And when the competitor Lifx has a much brighter bulb that doesn't need a bridge then the question has to be asked as to why Hue is the most recommended.
The default app is also severely lacking for the capability this product has. In short the one star rating on the App Store is well deserved. (I only gave it two stars because I do love these things.)
---Pros
--Very easy set up
Allows you to be creative with how you can connect them to more Internet of things than the competition
----cons
-Brightness really seems to fall short for a $50 bulb
-seperate 3rd generation bulbs are slowly rolling out
-the manufacturers Mobile app sucks

Best Starter Kit to Automate Lights

I absolutely love my Philips Hue color starter kit. I decided to get the color one since Alexa can now change the light bulb colors by voice. The light bulbs have a huge range of colors to choose from and it's very easy to swap colors. I was worried I would have difficulty setting the system up, but it was no problem since the phone app walked me through step by step.

The Phillips Hue 3 lights set is a decent entry into smart home lighting. The colors is nice and rich. It's a bit on the expensive side, but once you bought the kit, you don't need to buy the hub again. Works with Smartthings and Google Home

These are my first smart light bulbs.
Easy to set up
Response quickly on switching colors with no lagging.
I highly recommend buying the starter kit.
Compare to other smart light bulbs that require no hub is not the best way to go. Trust me!
Note: It's best to pair two light bulbs in the same room to get the actual color mode. I believe the mode display on the picture is 'Savanah'
which can be found on the Philips hue App.

It is relatively easy to set up the bridge (although you do need to physically connect the bridge to your router, which I hope future generations can adapt the wireless connectivity). Then you just need to download the Hue App and recognize every light bulb. Note that there might be hiccups during the setup process. I tried a few times to completely set up the entire 3-light bulb set.
Different scenes created by the light bulbs are truly amazing. I control them via Amazon Echo (and Echo Dots). You can also use Apple Homekit to control everything, but you need Apple TV 4th Generation to be able to do that remotely. That being said, I only give 4 stars because the brightness level can be significantly higher. Hopefully they can improve that in future generations.

Most folks would have these things working and doing what they will within short order. I followed directions, everything worked, and then I tried to create different "rooms" using the same bulbs, and I gave up after several days. Several days. They are fun! Phone apps work great, simple, set up different color schemes, but Alexa? I'm still wanting Alexa to have 'em change colors, but I'm not tech smart enough to have figured that out yet. "On," off' up' down,' whatever "%." But colors? Nope!

The hue bulbs are great and pair nicely with Alexa if you want. Using the Hue app is a bit tough. It makes it difficult to switch colors so you have to play around with it. Overall a nice add on to have at home.
