Wide spectrum of colours but the use case isn't very strong. More for playing around with the smart home concept. Use case would be stronger if the price was loser. Then it would serve well as a bulb replacement

I've been using this Hue kit for the past few months now, and I really like it. I have all three bulbs in my bedroom along with the Hue dimmer switch, all of which work flawlessly. I can either use the Hue app on my phone or my Google Home to make lighting changes, turn individual lights on or off, custom scenes, etc. My kids also really like changing the colors to all kinds of weird combinations. Only downside for me is the price of the color bulbs. Overall, though, very pleased with this Hue kit.

I always thought the LED colored bulbs were more a gimmicky thing that normally would not have a use in everyday life. Turns out I was wrong. The Philips Hue bulbs are amazing. Sure, when you first turn them on, they are warm 2600k, but they can be changed to suit your mood and your settings. I find the color accuracy is good, I tried some of the 2nd gen bulbs, the colors are not that accurate (blue/green), but I think the 3rd gen are better. I'd go with the 3rd gen bulbs.
Overall the setup is simple and very easy. I have it hooked to my Samsung Smart Things, together they work on turning on / off my lights as well as other sensors. I find the bulbs are much easier to change than the bluetooth based units, and I can do them from anywhere in the world. The brightness of the bulbs are probably the only downfall, I wish it was bit brighter. I think the multi-white (white only bulb) is actually a brighter at 1000 lumens.
Overall I am very happy with the Hue bulbs. I think they are an amazing value to start automating your house. I now have my lights go on/off when I am not home, saves me from having people thinking I am not home.

These bulbs are great. If you were looking for a replacement or a way to step up your smart home game here is a good place to start. The Hue bulbs are a great investment. They're connected via wifi so you can control each individual bulb with your phone if you wanted. You can also set them up in groups or rooms so that you can control groups of them at a time. Because they're wifi enabled that means you can also control them with any digital assistant. We had really bright bulbs in our bathroom before we got this bulbs and it was a nightmare needing to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night because you were dreading turning on those really bright lights. But now, we can turn on the lights with our phone or get a sensor and have them dimmed. It's honestly great. You might look at the price and think to your self "That's a lot for a light bulb." but these are amazing. Dimming bulbs without having to install new switches or anything. Not to mention setting moods with the colors. Easy sell, definitely recommend.
TL;DR -- Great investment, they offer a lot of flexibility for the price.

I decided to jump into the world of smart lighting as I was very interested in automation opportunities. I love that this integrates with Apple Home, so i can set lights to come on automatically when I arrive home. No more timers that lose/gain time or have to be reset due to time changes. I love that you can set just about any color. Still getting used to not using light switches to turn the lights on/off, but it is fun to yell out to SIri to turn everything off.

The Hue lights are a great way to engage with your environment in a new way. By making moods and shifting scenes your rooms take a different feel that can be useful for different situations.
You can also take advantage of the technology and set timers for the lights to go on at certain times (awesome for those of us who can't wake up in the morning with a simple alarm.)
If you have Siri or Alexa, I can assure you that you'll most definitely feel like you're living in the future.
I'm extremely happy with my purchase. I think it's a little overpriced, but it's worth it. However, at times I find it that they're not the brightest, which is something I haven't seen a lot in reviews. Sometimes the light is not enough so I'll have to have two lights on at the same time.
Would I recommend it to friends?
Yes. I think the concept of having control of your house from your phone is amazing, but with that said, not everyone is on board with that.
Not only that, but of you have a poor connection at your house you can't take advantage of the features, as it is all through the router...

Love the Colors, GF doesn't

Was really excited to get these out of the box and set them up. Kept thinking I was one step closer to a "smarter" house. And I was so right. It is always nice to be able to say "Hey google, turn on the lights" and walk into a room while it is all turning on. Feels like you are being welcomed into your own house. You can get that with other Hue lights though. For the extra money for these you get multiple settings that let you change to hundreds of different shades of colors. I really loved this feature and thought it would help set the mood when watching a movie or get me amped when playing a game. That being said the girlfriend doesn't like having lights blue or red because they seem tacky... So I would recommend this product on two conditions. 1. You get them on sale. These things are waaaaay too expensive for what they deliver. Changing colors on three smart lights are cool and all but you shouldn't have to go broke in the process. 2. Make sure you actually want lights to be other things that white and the basic yellowish color most light bulbs.

Philips has done a great job with their HUE light series. The bridge set-up is super easy, and it takes no time at all to get up an running. The ability to set infinite colors, create custom color scenes and even dim the lights all from one bulb is fantastic. The app makes it easy to control the lights and now Philips has created an Alexa Skill to allow you to control all of these features with your voice. These are definitely worth checking out.

I got three lights with the starter kit. The colors are impressive. The set up was easy, and works fine with my Google Home.
I did face bug issues from time to time, but they were minor and was fixed with just a reboot.
Hope to see energy saving lights in the next generation.

Upgrading and adding existing lights

I have had the Hue lights since day 1. I have a total of 18 different types of Hue light. I wanted to add more lights and definitely upgrade my Hue Bridge 1.0 which does not work with Apple Homekit but after purchasing the Hue lights also it was bundle with the Google Home. It was cheaper to buy it this way to get a great deal.
Before you begin I would recommend that you write down the serial number for all new bulbs then install in the desired location with the light switch on. (You will need the serial if the bridge does not find the new or existing lights), if using HomeKit you will need to write down the 9 digits Apple HomeKit code which you have to manually type in. The code is located inside the box a sticker on the plastic, now that you have done that you will have to connect your new bridge to your network via Ethernet cable. Yes you have to have both Bridge connected to transfering your old bridge settings to the new Hue Bridge 2.0. Also you will have to use the App Store Hue app to do the transfer. Once you follow the steps you can reset then will disconnect your old bridge. That's just the beginning then next you have to name the new lights then set up Homekit which I knew nothing about other than Siri now can turn control the lights with you voice. You will need to learn how to use Apple Home app. I feel like it can be improved because when I just want to adjust a room of lights I have to select each light individually then control the lights but I still use the Hue app also since I have the Google Home it can also control my lights. I gave this product 3 Stars due to the fact that 1 of lights brought has an issue with after turning off the light using using the apps, Siri or Google Home. That 1 light will turn on after I have requested to turn it off. I did do a Google search and it seems to be a known problem with the 3 bulb kit. However, I will be contacting Phillips to get this solve. But I would recommend this product because it helps with lowering my light bill and I love the fact that I can use my voice to control my lights also I can share my HomeKit devices with family and friends.

Good lights, some quirks

I bought this with a Samsung Smartthings hub and was able to have it connect rather easily after I found out you had to restart the router and the Samsung hub. Once connected and some config using the Hue app and the Smartthings, I was able to control it.
Generally, the system works great. I have the a19 rgb ambiance along with their a19 white bulbs and LED light strip. Boy, does it light up! The color range is phenominal on the rgb bulbs and the regular bulbs were just right for the smaller room. And the LED strip gives our great room a bit of style when visitora are over.
Now for the quirks. Yes, it's expensive. There are others out there that will do the same for cheaper. I went with it because it's a trusted brand known for quality and oem use. Expensive HID lights found om luxury vehicles use philips. The next quirk, I find sometimes that the bulbs will lose connection and be unable to control. The bulbs have signal repeaters so that even the farthest bulbs should be reachable as long as there are bulbs in between. Now fact check me if I'm wrong but as far as I know that's how it works. The bulbs that lose connection are literally 6 feet from each other with the hub on the same floor. I even have an Orbi to bathe my entire house with strong Wi-Fi yet it still loses connection.
Alas, even with minor hiccups here and there, generally they work 90% of the time flawlessly. With each bulb dimmable you can set it to the mood you want. Combine with a voice command hub e.g. Echo or Google home, with these lights and you have the start of a true smart home.

I absolutely adore this lighting system! It is the coolest thing to be able to control all the colors and settings from my phone anywhere anytime, and to be able to have the proper lighting for any occasion or mood! The Hue lights were so easy to install and I love the fact that they can be used for safety purposes as well. Keep your lights moving even when you're not home to make it appear as if you are!

Although a fantastic product and very easy to use, I've struggled to find any real need for this system. I've even bought add on bulbs and I still have a tendency to just want to use switches. The color changing feature works very well if you're into that. Integration with other smart home devices is top notch. I have integration with Google Home, Alexa, and harmony with zero issues

I was a bit skeptic about this product. I saw videos, read reviews but I didn't think I would enjoy it as much I do it now. App works great, Alexa is smart enough to turn them on and off or change brightness or colors. It's a life changer and your place will look totally different with all the colors. It's amazing. Solid product, worth it for the price during holiday sales.

I just bought my second starter kit, and I love these lights! Three lights are a fun conversation starter, but with a few of these in every room, the home automation aspect really comes to life. Being able to turn certain spaces on or adjusting brightness/color while home or away is priceless from a security standpoint. Using the app to set up routines is easy and fun too.
