Love it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the HUE starter kit about 6 months ago. I've purchased 4 white Hue lights and an additional 3 color/white lights since. Pros: Easy set up, I was up and running in about 5 minutes, and that was mostly download/ reading instructions. I've connected my Hue lights to my Amazon Echo as well. I have them in my kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, porch, and outer garage. It's great to walk into a dark room and say Alex turn on my bedroom lights and be good to go. The connection between Hue and Alexa was a breeze as well. These lights are LED so they don't use a lot of energy, plus they are always cool to the touch which is great if you need to relocate the bulb. With all of that, my favorite feature is the ability to set wake up and asleep times. I set up a variety of schedules to ensure people think we are home even when we might not be. Cons: The green is definitely NOT really green, it's more of a tarnished yellow. If you're not looking for green, then it won't be an issue, just don't throw any St. Patty's day events. The only other issue I had, is at times connectivity will drop and interfere with the system. I ended up purchasing an expensive wifi system to avoid any drops in the system. It seems to be working better now. Finally, I used the white lights outside, they don't seem to want to dim though. Not sure if it's the light system, or the housing unit.

Much improved over gen 2
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had bought generation 2 hue lights a couple weeks before i bought these generation 3 lights and i wasn't impressed. They couldn't really do any blue or green which are pretty significant colors to leave out. I then saw these were coming out so i exchanged for the new lights. The generation 3 can actually do all colors. There are alot of 3rd party apps to use too. I found one that makes the lights respond to different sound frequencies. Definitely makes watching a movie a lot cooler. Overall, they are nice if you don't mind the excessive price.

No buyer's remorse here!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Are these lights a necessity: no. Are they awesome: most definitely! I have been looking at these lights for months and finally took the leap and bought them. I tried them out as soon as I got home. Super easy to set up. You just plug the bridge into your home router, turn on the app, and it pairs itself. The difference colors are amazing. I honestly didn't know if I would like the colors, but it really does change the mood of the room. The brightest white isn't as bright as I imagined it would be, but I am still playing around with it. Might just need a different lamp shade as well. Anyways, really happy with this purchase :)

And NOW ......
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Say hello to GREEN and BLUE. I had the second generation and was ok with them, but it wasn't till I purchased the HUE BLOOM that I realized how much I missed blue and green. Fortunately, the third generation came out within my exchange time line and for a mere $20 more (I exchanged the starter kit) I have all the rich blues and greens as well as just about any other color. I had thought these were a gimmick that would be short lived, but I think that I am wrong. This is the next step in the evolution of the automated home. The color variations are wonderful for setting a mood or just being playful. If this is in your budget, consider the HUE series by Phillips for your living space.

I love these bulbs!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love almost everything about these bulbs except for the price. I think the prices are coming down little by little, though and the color quality is getting better. The colors are amazing and the ability to turn lights off and on with Siri or Alexa is amazing. I love being able to set scenes to match my decor or mood. I love the ability to cycle the colors through random colors. I love not having to walk into a dark house with my arms full. They took a little work and patience to get them to work the way we want, but WOW when we did. AMAZING!

Easy and flexible lighting control
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've used different types of lighting automation control over the years. Most of them have used powerline communications (X10, UPB, etc.) I have been very happy with UPB for years, as it is reliable technology, but it's a pain to install since you need to replace the light switch. Even then, you can't change the color temperature or color of the light. The Hue is much easier to install and more flexible. You can have it working a few minutes after opening the box. (By "working," I mean "remote controlled." "Fully automated" requires more work.) The only "con" to the system is if you need to get these to work in conjunction with an existing home automation controller or with other lighting control technology. Then, you'll need some third-party help. OpenHAB has a bit of a learning curve, but it can help stitch different technologies together. Overall, the Hue is a great system, and I'll probably not buy another UPB lighting control device again.

Great product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got all of the living room lights replaced with 3rd gen hue lights and were happy. Were using these lights and 2nd get lightstrips plus with Echo. Let me tell you its awesome, it takes some time for everyone to stop flipping the light switches out of the habit but man, when everyone is comfortable with them they are a blast. Brighter, more color accurate and the best part, if you forget to turn them off just check your phone and turn them off ha ha. Also The waking up with increasing light intensity is nice, noticed that it actually helped.

Works well mostly but has a few flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the white only model before and so when i had the chance to buy the color bulbs, i was happy with them until i stared to notice a few flaws. 1) The most obvious flaw is that you cannot set the default color, if you turn off the light by using a switch or a power cut, it resets to warm white, no way to change this behavior. Only way the bulb turns on with the last color used is to use the app or Amazon Echo etc. 2) The Hue app only lets me add 1 hub to my account at a time, i added a new hub and i am no longer able to control the bulbs via the app. I had to delete one hub from my account! Apart from these, I am still happy that i purchased this. LIFX bulbs apparently have the feature of setting the default color and my next set would be those bulbs instead just because of these flaws.

44+ lights well worth the investment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.""""3rd gen""""" boys and girls. (YES) Electric bill is 15 dollars. Linked with Google Home and Samsung Smarthings Hub= Unlimited customization voice setting and responses. Learn IFTTT to unlock your homes potential. The sky is the limit. The 3rd gen lights run brighter and at a lower energy cost. I'm just awaiting 6 Hue Go Lights, and that's the end of that.

Perfect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is by far one of the best purchases I've made. Everything works perfectly and I haven't had a single connection drop since I purchased this. I'm gonna add more hue lights to my system in the future.

Meh
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was expecting better white light/brighter colours from these. It's great if you just want dim mood lighting but if you need to do any work that requires decent lighting, maybe pass on these. I'd recommend them for very small rooms or anyplace where you dont really need much light. I'm gonna return these and try the lifx, most people say those are a bit more bright

No Support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My daughter bought me this starter kit at Best Buy for Christmas. I was moving so did not install it right away. I opened the box yesterday and found one of the light bulbs cracked. Neither Best Buy, who say its past the date I can return it, and Philips customer support, who just say they are very sorry (great! I feel better already), will help me. Really? Forget this product, they don't support it.
