Due to the expense - I love being able to add to my Hue network 1 light at a time. This Hue went in my Philippe Starck transparent table -- and looks AMAZING! Love the ability to dial in ANY color and brightness.

I was kind of skeptical about these lights at first but they are great lights for setting a nice ambient environment. You can choose to dim the the lights or play with the millions of color combinations available. Im definitely looking to continue to add more lights yo my collection.

I've got a system at work and one at home. The lights could be a little brighter for reading but it's nice to change the mood up some with different colors.. They might seem a little pricey but remember they are led and will burn for a long time.

    Interesting options with Hue System

Hue is a system, so you need to purchase a basic system kit to make use of the features of the system -- a single bulb by itself cannot do much more than turn on and off at the old-fashion switch. This isn't true of all of its rivals, but the stand-alone bulbs are also generally heavier and more expensive than the Hue bulbs. . This A19 bulb produces a full range of colors. There is another Hue A19, called A19 LUX, that only does white, though in a range of color temperatures from cool white to hot -- but all white light. I originally bought my "system" as a part of a hue LUX kit, and this color bulb was an add-on to that system. The point, in case it needs to be clarified, is the hue is one system, that includes both A19 bulbs. The white-only Lux bulbs are quite a bit cheaper, so if you don't need color, it is something to consider. . A starter kit, in addition to light bulbs includes a bridge, which must be plugged into your wireless internet router. I emphasize "plugged-in" because the bridge, itself, is not wireless. The bridge provides a signal to the bulbs. Range from the bridge is not great, but the bulbs will relay the signal to one another so you can extend the reach by installing some bulbs close enough to the bridge. The bridge in the LUX starter kit is the same as the bridge in other starter kits, and one bridge can handle something like 50 bulbs -- I haven't tested the limit; I only have two color bulbs and two LUX bulbs on my one bridge. . Aside from just wanting to experiment, I am using the bulbs where I previously used timers to have lights go on automatically. That works reasonably well. . A Hue timer is virtual, something you set on the app. It is stored on the bridge, but, somewhat oddly, an individual timer is locked to the device where it was created, such as a computer or mobile phone. The timers are discrete events: "turn on at 7 pm" might be one, "turn off at 11 pm" might be another. I don't see a way to program, "be on between 7 pm and 11 pm; otherwise be off". When we recently had a power failure, and the power was restored, AFTER the alarm meant to turn the lights off, the lights came on and stayed on. So, there can be little pitfalls in this brave new world. There are ways to do more sophisticated scripting online (not in the app), but I have not explored any of that.

I have slowly started adding these to my home. Right now I have a mix of Hue bulbs and the less expensive Lux bulbs. It is pretty cool all of the colors and effects you can create with these bulbs! And I love being able to create scenes for different times or things going on. And they can be integrated with other things in my home like my entertainment system via my Harmony remote. The only reason I only gave these 4 stars is because of the price. If they could bring the price down to say $40, or maybe even a tad more than that, they'd be a better value and much more palatable. That being said, it didn't stop me from beginning to introduce them into my home and life. Bottom line, no one needs these bulbs. You can get much less expensive CFL's or even LED's that don't have any of the smart functions or colors and light your home just fine. But if you're looking to get into smart home technology or just think these would be cool and fun, and if you can stomach the price, then these are an awesome option!

I have my whole home set up with Hue lights. We started with just a few lights and have expanded to almost the whole home including the outside lights (which work just fine even at +9 degrees.) I love the ability of the lights to set moods and even outside celebrations. The home can exhibit colors to match the seasons, Christmas, Halloween, St. Patricks, Fourth of July. We really have had fun with these lights. We have a updated router and never had a problem. The lights in my bedroom wake me gently in the morning. The lights I choose turn on when I arrive at home and turn off when I leave. I am finding new things to do each day. Thumbs up to this product.

These are really great bulbs. They have wide range of colors and it's awesome controlling it remotely. I also enjoy the geo-fencing option. I come home after dark and my lights come on when I pull in the driveway. Only drawback is the app makes it difficult to setup scenes. Takes a little work to get the scene and colors setup the way you like.

Finally finished my 1st room with Hue

This finally completes my first room, which is my basement TV media room. It is great because now I can start a movie and bring down the lights without having to stir from my chair.I have a couple of colored HUE lights so I can have effects. The SYFY SYNC app works great with the Hue lights, providing lighting effects when watching shows such as 12 Monkeys and Sharknado. I can set a GEOFENCE with the colored lights so I know when my wife and kids are out, but nearly home. And I have it set so the lights go out at midnight, so I don't have to worry whether someone left them on or not. I plan on getting more, so I can make the house look occupied, even when it's not, since timers can be set up for individual lights in certain rooms. Now I have to do my new kitchen when it's done. I want to try the 2 meter colored LED strips under my cabinets. Cool.

    DANGER - Addictive purchasing

I started out with buying the starting pack just to put in a few lamps in the house and play with the IFTTT app to automate the house a little. It's been less than 3 months and I have almost replaced every light buld in the house. It's now moved over to the friends of Hue line, adding above cabinet light strips, and blooms behind tv's to cast walls of color behind the TV. It really helps reduce eye strain when watch tv at night. (This is the story I tell myself to justify the purchase). Lots of great apps available too to automate your home. From have parties with lights changing to the beat of the music, to creating the perfect light settings for reading, or cooking, to just chilling out and watching TV. Just keep in mind, you cant buy just one. They're like potato chips in that way.

I like this light. You can control the brightness from your phone provided you have it hooked up to the wifi bridge thing that only comes with a starter kit. The directions say it does not work with a light socket that already has a dimming/brightness control. That may be correct, but it does work in my ceiling fan which has its own dimming function. It does some weird flickering thing if I turn the fan power on and off though. Otherwise, it will work pretty much in any standard light socket. Of course the price could be friendlier on all these special kinda lights.

These bulbs are great. While a bit pricey, they do offer a very wide range of colors and brightness levels. At 100%, these bulbs provide more than enough light in my apartment. The integration to turn on, off, and dim the lights with Amazon Echo is great too. The home feels very futuristic having all the lights be voice controlled. This is definitely a fun and frivolous purchase to make, but if you've got the enthusiasm and spare cash to try it out, it's worth it.

I have the whole system tied to my Nest thermostat and August Smart Lock, also. I come home, the a/c kicks in, and all the lights come on. If I want to relax, I give the Hue bulbs a green tint. When I'm working out, I make them blue and white. And when it's late at night, I use warm reds and oranges. And there are so many apps that can control the lighting to respond to music and other triggers.

Philips Hue Light Bulbs - VERY COOL!

You wouldn't think a light bulb could be fun and exciting, but the Philips Hue Light Bulbs are definitely FUN. I have invested in 12 of these light bulbs so far and intend to completely switch the rest of my light bulbs out with these. I have so much fun setting up the APPS in my iPad, my Samsung S5 phone, and my Tablet. These APPS control everything imaginable in regards to color, brightness, dimness, flashing, alerts. I have mine set to the Local weather - when the temperature outside is going to be 80 degrees of higher, the lights will glow a beautiful shade of ORANGE, and when its going to snow, I have them blink BLUE. I also like the weather alert emergency - blinking RED when a tornado warning has been issued really helps my family get into a safe place fast, even if we are not watching tv or listening to the radio. These light bulbs are also fun for parties and get-togethers - they can change colors based on the music your playing and even give disco effects. I would highly recommend these light bulbs for your entire house.

Added more Hue bulbs to my collection. They were on sale, so I am slowing swapping out all of my traditional bulbs. We really like that we can program them to come on and turn off at certain whatever time we need. Also, the ability to program different colors for different moods is the best.

The Philips Hue lightning system is expensive can be somewhat addicting. I would not get any starter kit unless you're willing to spend at least $300 (this is coming from a somewhat large studio apartment). It's amazing to be able to control the lights from your bed or on the couch. If you forgot a light on, it's super easy to turn it off. This is pretty useful for when you're not home and you want to see if you left a light on or if you want to turn a light on because it's late (if you want people to think that someone's home).

These lights are actually pretty neat. I have four of them in my basement and they actually light up the whole room pretty well in every color I want, including that awesome 6500K white light. With the app "Huemaniac" you can make a colorful strobe effect that goes with music, making it a pretty awesome party scene. The only reservation I have with these is their cost... $60 a pop seems a little steep.

After buying the Hue Lux starting key I decided to buy one of this bulb to try it out. It was easy to set up with the HUB. Just opened the Hue app and add to your bulbs. Did not have any problems pairing the bulb with the app. Pretty cool features when it comes to colors. Haven't had any issues yet so far.
