    Gorgeous camera, hideous storage plan

It is truly a shame to have a camera here that is so incredibly nice to set up and is built with such robust quality, but that requires a SUBSCRIPTION to get any real utility out of in the long run. I am coming right out and mentioning this because security cameras, particularly ones of this caliber and price, are an investment. If you are going to invest in a Philips Hue camera set up, you need to know the truth. To get storage of your recorded video clips, you must buy a Secure plan, either Basic or Plus. Basic is $39.99/year PER CAMERA and you only get 30 days of stored recordings. Meaning, if you have two cameras, you will need to pay for each camera at that yearly rate. The Plus plan is $99.99/Year and offers the most features including 60 days of stored recordings and covers all cameras in your Philips Hue setup. The free plan is abysmal, only offering live streaming, light and sound alarms, and instant motion notifications without the ability to store your recordings after a motion alert. That means if you had someone come do a porch dash theft of a package, all you would have evidence wise is the notification and time and snapshot but not the full recording to give to the authorities. That sucks. The fact that a camera this expensive has no option for local storage like a micro-SD card is just terrible in my opinion. Now that I have gotten this out of the way, I will discuss some of the other nice features and annoyances of this camera. The build quality and 1080p HD camera image this camera boasts are incredible. But honestly, it dang well better be amazing at this price tag. I have found the night vision to be excellent with great span and coverage and it lacks the fuzziness of other security cameras I have reviewed, particularly on the extremes of the image borders at distance. This could be all the difference between whether you actually capture the details of a license plate, perpetrators facial features, etc. The camera is built with robust build quality and is one of the easiest cameras I have ever set up via a smartphone app. It was super intuitive, and the instructions were great. One of the small nuisances of this camera I find though is the proprietary charging cable, port, and short cord length. The including power cord is only 6 feet long or so which precludes it from having any real utility in a high roof or door frame set up if you are seeking constant power delivery to the camera. I really think this camera should have used a USB-C charging port for ultimate flexibility and utility in a variety of circumstances, particularly when considering the low power draw of the camera and how easily a USB charging set up would have accomplished the power needs of this device. Altogether, I will not be recommending this camera to my friends unless they are already deeply invested in the Philips Hue product ecosystem and really want to enhance their security set up. You need to be prepared to accept that the subscription plan on this camera is the only way you are going to maximize its utility as a security product. Thanks for reading and I hope this review has been honestly helpful!

Solid if you’re into Philips Smart Home System

If you’re into the Philips smart home system, then this may be the security camera system for you as it easily integrates with your Philips smart home solution. If you’re not, the good news is this camera does not require having the smart home bridge in order to work and gives you most of its features. If you have the bridge, you can make use of the automation features. The overall build quality is great, and I like the sleek design. The white color actually mimics camera products by competing brand. Setting up the camera is easy enough; it only requires you to install the Philips Hue app and the rest will be taken care by the app. Charging the camera to full capacity takes between several hours to whole night. Installation is easy and you got multiple options. The easiest one is to mount the camera by sticking it to ferromagnetic metal. The other option would be to use the provided long screw and the fischer plug and fix them to the wood or a wall. The camera feeds 1080P video and the quality is good. The video is clear even in night vision mode, and the resolution is sharp enough to provide necessary details when observing the live feed. If you subscribe to the secure plan, you will get access to video clip history and advanced function such as alarm. I’m not really interested to subscribe to another security camera plans, however, the free plan feels really basic. Philips give you a free trial of the secure plan, however, it’s not working perfect as I can’t seem to trigger an alarm from the app. That or maybe because I don’t have the Philips smart home bridge installed. Even without the plan, however, the camera supposedly encrypts the video and audio end-to-end. The only time I was able to trigger the alarm was when setting up the camera and it did not sound too loud. It’s maybe effective enough to attract neighbor’s attention provided they are outside but if they’re inside I don’t believe they would hear the alarm. Also, the camera has built in speaker so you can talk through the camera, but the audio is pretty weak for an outdoor camera. I’m not sure about battery life. In my test, the battery seems to drain a bit faster that I would expect. Of course, to take full advantage of the camera system you will need to subscribe to a plan. If you have multiple cameras, subscribing to the top tier of the annual plan would make sense. The price, however, is not the cheapest out there and surely not the most expensive. Since subscription cost would be one of the key factors in choosing a camera system aside of the hardware cost and system integration, Philips sit somewhere in the middle amidst all the smart security camera options out there. Here’s what I like: Easy to setup Magnetic installation Solid build quality Good image quality End-to-end encryption for video and audio What I don’t like: Not the cheapest subscription to access video clip history Weak speaker Weak alarm sound Battery life seems to be not as long lasting Requires smart home bridge for full functionality including automation features All in all, this security camera system is still a good choice if you’re into the Philips smart home system. If you’re not into the Philips ecosystem, well there are a number of options out there to consider in terms of hardware performance and subscription cost.

I didn't expect Philips to jump into the security camera arena but it wasn't a bad jump. Once I took it out the box, there's a QR code that must be scanned to connect the camera to the Hue app. (I have a Philips Hue hub that's used to connect up to 50 Philips Hue products. I have mostly light bulbs) Once loaded into the Hue app, everything from that point on is guided inside the app so there's no guessing game of what to do going on. This is where you will connect the camera to your wifi and a few other things. Once it's added to the Hue app, you can test the camera to make sure video is showing on your phone and to make sure you can hear audio, and also speak through the camera. Once this is done you can decide whether you will mount the camera inside or outside. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I thought that you can only operate this camera by it being plugged in to an electrical socket. I didn't realize until unplugged it that it is battery operated and there's no need for a cord or the headache of placing it near an outlet. You are able to place this camera anywhere within the range of your wifi router. This steps up the game for me. I was able to place the camera on the side of my house in a great spot. Just one screw is all it takes to mount this camera and with the powerful magnetic attachment, it will not move at all. It took me maybe 5 minutes to mount. The video is very clear and it has night vision (please do not buy a security camera without night vision). If you have Philips Hue light bulbs in your home or a floodlight, etc, there's a feature in the camera app that will allow you to turn on all of your lights at the same time to give the appearance of someone being in the home. This is very beneficial while away from home. You can also set it up to automatically do this whenever there is motion detected. What a cool feature. I've had it up for about a week and haven't had to charge it yet. So far so good on battery life. But I can just remove the camera and charge it whenever it's needed. Philips gives you a free trial of a security plan which allows you to have extra features like 30 days of video history, video clips and other alerts. The trial lasts 30 days but if you would like to keep it after the trial ends then you'll have to fork over $40 a year per camera. Not too bad. $3.99 per month if you don't want to pay for the full year. I think this is a great buy if you have other Philips Hue products and you plan on buying more cameras. This way it would be beneficial to purchase the security plan.

    Great camera with one flaw

The Philips Hue Secure Battery Camera has many commendable features, making it a notable contender in the home security market. This camera provides a sharp, high-definition video feed, ensuring that every detail is captured clearly. Its night vision capabilities are also impressive, offering clear images even in complete darkness. The integration with the Philips Hue ecosystem allows for seamless connectivity with other smart home devices, enhancing overall home automation. The design of the Philips Hue Secure Battery Camera is sleek and modern, fitting well into any home decor. It is easy to install, and the battery life is decent, reducing the need for frequent recharges. The accompanying app is user-friendly, allowing for easy setup and navigation. It offers various features such as motion detection, alerts, and two-way audio, which are essential for a comprehensive security system. However, there is one significant drawback that users should be aware of: the proprietary charger. In an era where USB-C is becoming the standard for most devices, the decision to use a proprietary charger is quite disappointing. Almost everyone has embraced the USB-C ecosystem. This choice feels somewhat outdated and can be a hassle, especially if you misplace the proprietary charger which I have done in the past with other electronics that use proprietary chargers. Furthermore, the proprietary charger limits flexibility and interchangeability. If the charger gets damaged or lost, obtaining a replacement can be more challenging and potentially more expensive than a universal USB-C cable, which is widely available and often already in use for other devices. This aspect somewhat undermines the convenience that the Philips Hue Secure Battery Camera aims to provide. Despite this flaw, the Philips Hue Secure Battery Camera remains a robust and reliable choice for enhancing home security. The high-quality video, ease of use, and integration with other smart home devices are significant advantages. However, Philips should consider updating future models to include a USB-C port to align with modern standards and enhance user convenience. Until then, potential buyers should weigh the inconvenience of the proprietary charger against the camera’s otherwise impressive features. Despite this I do recommend the camera but won’t give it 5 Stars because of this.

This camera is pretty easy to install. The box holds your magnetic camera and base with a space to feed your 10 foot long cord. I'm not crazy about the male plug being separated from the brick. That just seems like a little extra for no real reason. You'll also get the screw feeder and screw for wall mounting. I think the power cord is unnecessarily long. It's a wired camera that honestly shouldn't be placed no more than 8 feet up. I mean, i get it. You want a long cord, but not for this. Then there's the HUE app if you've got more HUE products, this'll be able to acclimate well with the rest of your gear, such as smart plugs and smart bulbs. It also works with your mobile assistant. I don't know if you can tell by now. But I'm not very crazy about this camera. Yes. I gives off a clear picture and there's a mic feature. But this really an indoor camera. So this best used in small single room offices. That cord is it's only lifeline and if you plan on mounting it outside, you'll want to mount it high enough and may even need an extension cord to keep those cord high webbing and out of the way. Inside, once alerted of an intruder, i feel like you'd have a better chance to sound your siren. Then there's the elephant in the room that makes this very hard to recommend. The monthly fee to use the advanced features, like video playback. There are more affordable/ wireless camera sets available. It's a nice camera, but i can only recommend this for single indoor establishments.

I have my Philips Hue battery-powered security camera mounted on the fascia at the far right corner of the house to cover the front. The image clarity is very impressive, and the field of view is phenomenal. It captures a large portion of the front yard, one side of the fence, and the driveway side of the fence. It also covers a bit of the street where I park my car and the driveway where my wife parks her car. Faces are very clear during the day, and the night mode is also excellent. The battery has lasted a week so far, draining only 20% without any motion alerts. When motion alerts are turned on, the battery drops about 5% more per day, so I anticipate needing to charge it fully at least every two weeks, and at most once a month. Taking the camera down to charge is easy since it's mounted magnetically. I attempted to connect my camera to Google Home, but you need the Hue Bridge to sync the camera. While the camera works without the Hue Bridge, I find that keeping all my camera views on one app works best for security purposes. Overall, I really like the Philips Hue camera because of its great clarity, battery life, and simplicity in installation and recharging.

Great Camera for Hue Ecosystem Users

I recently received the Hue Battery Security Camera and was interested to see how/if it would work within my existing security ecosystem..which is not Hue based. Unfortunately, the camera, which is definitely a great product, does not play well outside of a Hue-based lighting or security system. With that said, I'll focus on the camera and its capabilities and will point out some of the "cons" of the camera also. In the Box: The Hue Battery Security Camera is capable of being used with the charger connected or on battery power so in the box is the camera, user's guide, power/charging cable and mount. The camera and accessories are well-built and the fit and finish it top-notch as expected by Philips. I really like the magnetic mounting system; it is very straight forward and easy to set up. The mount it two parts with one being mounted to the chosen mounting surface and the second piece is a magnetic mount that connects to the base and the camera. It's a single screw to install and the magnetic base allows for the camera to be adjusted in all directions vertically and horizontally. Set Up: As mentioned, I do not use Hue for other systems in our home, so I do not have a Hue Bridge or account. Download the Hue app, create an account and scan the included barcode and walk through the setup process...that's it and was very straight forward in my case. Once the camera was connected there was an upgrade that took a few minutes and then it was ready to be installed and used. There is a 30-day free trial of the advanced Hue features, such as alerts and package detection, but again without a Hue Bridge, many of these AI features were not accessible with my setup. Using the Camera: I mounted the camera on the front deck so it would cover the deck and lakefront area including our boats. The 1080p video was crisp and showed very little lag as was the same for the audio and speaker functions. I felt that the video quality is a bit better than other 1080p cameras I've used in the past, so this was a welcome surprise. The 141 degree viewing angle allows a single camera to cover a larger area of your home or yard. Night Vision worked as expected and people and objects can be seen clearly. Two-way audio and the microphone can be toggled on/off with a button on the app. The system worked well and there was no noticeable lag when trying to talk to my wife through the camera. Overall Impressions: The Philips Hue Battery Security Camera is an acceptable option for a non-Hue ecosystem, its value and features will really shine for a Hue-based user for sure. Video and audio quality are above average for a 1080p resolution, rechargeable battery and the camera's build quality (IP65 rating) make this a great choice for an internal or external security camera. The Hue app makes it easy to control the camera and adjust some of the basic camera settings and features. This camera will truly shine when connected to a Hue Bridge, as that will allow for all the advanced features to be used. This camera can compete with any option out there but will be best served in a Hue Ecosystem. Pros: - Rechargeable Battery capability so can be mounted wirelessly - 1080p video is crisp in day or night mode - Multiple AI-based camera and security features - Easy setup and use - Superb built quality and IP65 rating for external setup - Two-way communication audio is clear with very little lag Cons: - Most all functions are available for Hue Bridge users - Subscription is required for advanced features like stored videos and security features - Charging cable is approx. 6', making it a challenge to charge my camera without an extension cord

I was excited to hear that Phillips was coming out with the line of Hue security cameras and now ive finally got my hands on one to see what all the fuss is about. The one I have is the battery powered one and before writing it off it can actually last MONTHS of battery use before charging depending on how many events the motion detection sees or sends per day. I have to say that was my biggest anxiety as in the past I had other cameras like door bells and they didnt last at all and needed charged almost every week. The 1080p camera provides a nice clear picture that is infinity focused so you never have to worry about if something captured is in focus or not. It has night mode of course and has an adaptive brightness to the infrared light that changes depending on whats in front of the camera to make sure it doesnt blow anything out to not see and it works really well in testing. The hue app (apple and google app stores) is the star of the show here and provides the user with the best experience in a security camera to date. Its really easy to set up and walks you though each step one by one until your good to go, even the physical mounting of the camera which is nice. Any steps you might need help with links you to a playlist on YouTube of videos demonstrating popular questions to resolution. Speaking of mounting the camera this is probably the easiest I've ever seen. It includes a base mount that you screw in and the magnetic portion twist into that. They include a very nice quality screw that's long enough to get through anything you might be mounting it on to properly hold it as well an anchor if needed for said screw to ensure security. Another anxiety point that I had with this was that the magnet wouldn't be strong enough but let me tell you if they get even within a foot of each other it's extremely strong! No worries there. Also if you mount this somewhere you think it might not be secure from theft they sell an extra safety tether that can attach to the camera as well to prevent this which is super nice if you need it for a garden or something where somebody could reach it. A deal breaker for some people that use apple home kit should know that none of the Hue line of security cameras are compatible with it and being as such I have to take one star off my rating. They are slated to have future support according to Phillips in Matter and of course Matter can be used with apple home itself so at some point in the future this would be resolved though as of July 2024 this is not the case yet. With a free plan for basic use and 2 paid yearly plans for cloud storage thats reasonably priced your pretty much all set with anything you could want in a security camera. You can set black out zones to ignore, detect packages at your door with an AI detection, it has light and sound alarms you can set up, has great motion detection built in, send live alerts right to your phone for review with end to end video encryption. It really is a complete package and comes highly recommended.

Initial Impressions - I opened the box, the product is well packaged and includes the charging cord, magnetic base, manual, AC adaptor and one mounting screw. The camera charged in about three hours to 100 percent capacity. I setup a hue account on both IOS and Android and added the camera. A 30 day trial for advanced feature use is offered, I activated this as I am most interested in person and object detection. The camera was placed at an angle on my porch to watch for package deliveries and vehicles pulling most of the way into my driveway. Recording and Recognition - The AI powered recognition works. It was able to detect deliveries, people, animals and vehicles as advertised. The animal recognition detected two crows and one cat over the course of a few days. A few boxes were detected as "package" whereas small thin packages only alerted based on "person". Either way I was able to see the deliveries being made when not home and I was able to follow who is visiting or leaving my home. Hue App - The Hue app is straightforward and very easy to use. I was able to add this camera and configure it for specific motion sensitivity. The two way talk option works well when on the local wifi network without any significant delay. I was able to tie motion triggering to my porch lighting control. Battery Life: Phillips states: "Can last up to four months on a single charge with typical usage, which is about 15–20 video clips per day" I test everything before permanently installing - I used this by a bird feeder that when filled will generate hundreds of clips per day. This generated over 700 video clips in five days. The used just over a third of the battery so I would expect that when placed in a typical location (driveway, garage, etc . .) where there are 10-20 activations per day it would last the advertised 3-4 months before needing to be recharged. What I love: Great 2 way audio ! Video quality in poor light excellent. Room for Improvement: Subscription required for recording retention. No homekit support to date

    - INTRODUCTION - Philips Hue is a highly respected leader in innovative lighting; I use 100 Hue bulbs throughout my house, requiring 2 bridges (50 devices are supported on each bridge). Based on this excellent performance, I was excited to add a Philips Hue Security Camera to my house. - SETUP - Setup of the Security Camera was difficult because my 2 Hue Bridges were connected to a different node (60 feet away) than the node (1 of 3 nodes) that the Mesh Network selected as I attempted to set up the camera. After 10 failed setup attempts, I tried setup at a different location across the house, just in case that was the issue. Setup was successful using the same Mesh Network Node connected to the Hue Bridges. Once setup, the software is tedious, due to fixed end-to-end encryption, which reduces app functionality; I would prefer this feature to be a user-selected option. I intended to add this camera to the 22 cameras already in operation at my house. Software requires setting a number of alert parameters just to get video displayed to test the camera. The barcode required to set up the camera is provided on a business card; it includes a warning not to lose it, should you need to set up the camera again. - CAMERA PERFORMANCE - The CMOS - F35 sensor yields clear 1080P images with 141.2 degree field of view. - BUILD QUALITY - The Hue Battery Security Camera has exceptional build quality. Rated at IP-65, it can handle outdoor or indoor use. - POWER CORD, ADAPTOR & INTERNAL BATTERY - 1- The internal rechargeable Li-ion battery is not replaceable, so when it dies, you discard, recycle & replace the camera. 2- The power cord is too short (approximately 6 feet long). If you mount the camera under the eaves of your house, how will you plug in the power adaptor if you choose to utilize a permanent power connection? 3- The power cord is outfitted with a custom plug at the bottom of the camera that is made just for this camera. If the cord is damaged during installation or use (not an uncommon occurrence), or if the unique power adaptor fails, the camera is rendered useless; you must contact Philips Hue to try to purchase a replacement cord & power adaptor. 4- The power cord comes out of the bottom / rear of the camera at an awkward position, making it impossible to sit the camera on a stand looking straight ahead, a common practice used to evaluate the best permanent location before drilling a hole to mount the camera. 5- No optional solar panel is available as a permanent voltage source to keep the internal battery charged; your only option is to connect the power adaptor to the mounted camera when the battery is low. - STORAGE PLAN - BASIC SECURE PLAN for each camera costs $39.99/year & provides 30 days of recordings. PLUS STORAGE PLAN costs $99.99/Year & provides 60 days of recordings for all Hue cameras. FREE PLAN: Only live streaming; no storage; Instant motion notification but no video to support it. If you invest in the Hue Security Camera infrastructure & utilize multiple cameras, the storage plan options may be justifiable; however if you are invested in a different system, paying for storage for one Hue camera is costly, in my opinion. - CONCLUSION - The Philips Hue Battery Security Camera offers good video quality but it suffers from a number of limitations that are detailed in this review. It does not earn my buy recommendation.

Philips Hue Battery Security Camera I have had the opportunity to test out the Philips Hue Battery Security Camera for several days now, and I must admit that I am quite pleased with it. Out of the box, the Philips comes with the camera, charging cable, mounting base and hardware, and quick start guide. Everything included exudes a sense of quality, substance and durability. The camera isn’t heavy, but you know when you are holding it that it is more than cheap plastic and inferior internals. Everything is well-made, fits together perfectly, and is remarkably aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I was excited to test it out. Set up was unremarkable. Download the app, connect to wi-fi, an update, and I was ready to roll. The most difficult part of the entire set up was figuring out where I wanted to mount the camera. I do want to say that I was a bit confused at first because I wasn’t 100% sure if the camera was stand-alone, or whether it had to be connected to the power supply. Okay, perhaps I should have read through everything first, but I finally figured out that it is truly wireless, and that when the camera needs recharging, you can either charge it where it is mounted, or you can remove it from its base and charge it somewhere else. After considering everything, I chose to leave the camera mobile, that is, I wanted to be able to use it in several different places. The first place was the carport. I like that the Philips Hue Battery Security Camera system comes with a 30-day trial. I do not have a Hue Bridge, so that does limit the entire experience to a degree, but nothing that interferes with the performance of the system. I mention that only because I wasn’t sure if the bridge was necessary or not. But like I said, I first decided to place the camera in the carport. I left it there for a few days. I already have cameras in the carport, so I was interested to see if it would pick up everything the other cameras did. I am happy to report that it performed flawlessly. It alerted me for movement including people, pets, and anything else that went past, including an airborne plastic bag. Recordings of the alerts were all saved, and I was able to review them later. The one and only thing I wasn’t really happy about was that the length of the recordings could have been a few seconds longer. In fairness, the recordings were quite visible and clear, even at night. But again, a few seconds longer for the clips would add a lot to the experience. I then moved the camera to the rear of the house. One thing I really like about the Philips is the 141.2-degree field of view. It isn’t so wide that you lose clarity, but yet it is not so narrow that the field of view is very limited. It was getting dark, and so I was eager to see how it performs in darkness. I set the Philips up immediately next to the other camera I have on the patio so I could get side-by-side comparisons. Wow, the Philips beat the socks off the other camera. I was really surprised. I am including the photos so you can see as well. I thought at first I must have left a light on, but I didn’t…the Philips Hue is that good. All in all, the Philips Hue Battery Security Camera system worked great. It does EVERYTHING it says, and more. I like the ability (with the paid plan) to have off-site cloud storage. I like the mobility of being able to either mount it or leave it mobile. The video quality is amazing, as is the audio quality. And I really REALLY like just how well designed, built and assemble the Philips system is. Now yes, there are a couple of things I’m not too crazy about. I wish it wasn’t so proprietary with such limited access to other vendors’ voice command systems. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why they do it. Like others, I was a bit surprised when Philips made the plunge into the security camera market. And I can see why they wanted to make it compatible with a system that was already in place. We already live with exclusivity when it comes to other brands of home assistants, so this isn’t really a big deal. I was a bit stand-offish when it came to the price point. But after seeing how well it actually performs and the overall superior quality of the system, I understood why. I would also have liked to see the ability to have on-site storage abilities as well as cloud-based. When the internet is down, there is no way to view clips at all. In a few short days, I have come to like the Philips Hue Battery Security Camera system a lot. If you are looking for an outstanding product that puts its money where its mouth is, the Philips is the deal for you. I will be highly recommending the Philips Hue Battery Security Camera system to all my friends and family!

I am really impressed with the way the Phillips Hue line of smart home products has expanded over time. They really never disappoint. The Hue Battery Security Camera is another high-quality, handsome product in the line. It's really easy to get started and even installed. The app walks you through set-up and it's a very easy to use once that is done. It's the same app you'll use (or are already using) for your lights and switches. Great features include: Two-way communication- you can listen in AND talk to the person or pet. Alarm features: A siren AND the ability to turn on some or all of your hue lights in the color you choose. Live view Motion/Person Detected views and notifications Timeline (review of past recordings) Ai Event recordings detecting a person, vehicle, animal or package. (Very cool - to avoid swaying branches sending you notifications). You can also set areas of the camera view to NOT record. Perhaps you want a view of your yard, but not your neighbor's... Final features I like are you can arm it for Home and/or Away, along with "exit delay" and "mimic presence" As I mentioned, it's a handsome device, and it's easily installed with a small plastic base and connects with a very strong magnet. This allows pretty free orientation. Yay for not having wires (though you can leave it plugged-in if desired) I do have gripes though. One is that very cool magnet- means that if your camera is located within reach it can be easily removed. My second gripe is that no mention is made on the package about "advanced features" only available via subscription. Those features are Clip History, allowing you to access recorded video clips for up to 60 days; those Advanced Alerts (type of object detection); and Activity and Package Zones.

The cameras quality and features seem to be all right. The magnetic attachment is impressive. I do feel misled because I was hoping that it would connect to Apple HomeKit and the subscription fee would not be just so astronomically high, but I was wrong. I would not recommend this if you want something that’s gonna instantly connect to Apple HomeKit and you’re not looking to pay over the top monthly security fees.

My last one was great held a charge for over a month...this one not sure yet. I charged it out it up and under 24hrs was down to 25%. Maybe a faulty one IDK I don't have tall enough ladder at this point to retrieve it and recharge. Will do when I get settled in (setting up new house out of state). I may have to deal with warranty thru Philips. This is our 3rd one other two no issues I did have a lil trouble getting this one set up after it did its updated and restarted

Phillips makes great bulbs not security cameras

Phillips is great at making lightbulbs, but maybe not so much at making security cameras. From the beginning, downloading the Phillips Hue app, it is clearly an app designed for lights and bulbs. I think it would be better if there was a separate app simply for security cameras. This has been my experience with other companies that have an app for the robot vacuum cleaner and the security cameras. It took me longer than I wanted to create an account and then accepting a trial and then navigating the app to find a way to install the cameras. All of the lights and bulbs appear right away, but the cameras takes a bit of exploring the app. Not ideal in my opinion. The box itself has the camera well secured, however, the lack of instructions and the lack of a manual is a problem. Having never installed a Phillips camera, the magnetic piece that connects to the camera somehow is supposed to be attached to the wall, but there is not much direction on how to go about this. In addition, the camera does not come with a type of stand to be able to simply leave in place without having to mount it. Unfortunately, due to it’s shape you will have to buy a Phillips stand just to be able to place this in a counter or a table. Not happy about this because it should as lease come with it knowing that it’s shape and where the cable is connected. It seems to me like this was more of a business decision than a decision to help a customer. Further, the fact that you have to pay a monthly subscription to fully use the cameras with all it’s security features. Again a business decision and not a customer friendly decision. Personally, I would look elsewhere for security cameras. Phillips is great with bulbs and lighting needs, but I am not impressed with it’s attempt in security. From the app, the camera design, to what is included in the box, it did not deliver to my expectation. The only good thing I see is the quality built. These seem well built but too bad that everything else is just not for me.

I've had this camera for a couple weeks and it has done a good job. I have a number of different brand cameras and I would say this is in line with the other in regards to resolution, settings and ease of setup. The battery is above average but physical size of the camera is also larger than most battery cameras. I don't like all the cameras making you subscribe to their plan to get recordings or notifications. This is one of those cameras. You get a 'trial' subscription when you activate the camera but once that is gone I believe you lose the event recordings unless you pay. The big advantage of this camera is the integration to the Hue system. If you already have Hue devices and are looking for security cameras this is definitely one to add to your list to check out. Setup is a quick and easy. It's easy to mount with the magnetic base and holds steady even with the size of the camera. The night vision works well and the daytime is clear and crisp. The app works well and is integrated nicely with their other devices. In the end I don't know why you have to pay monthly for basic features on a device you buy, but I guess that's becoming standard. The battery is great and the app is good so definitely a camera to take a look at.

I found the Philips Hue Battery Security Camera to have easy installation combined with great image quality and battery life! Design and Installation The camera is heavier than I expected, probably due to a high capacity battery inside. I feels very solid and well made thought. It has a very sleek and smooth, rounded all over, design. There's a very strong magnet that attaches the camera to the mount/base. The base is very easy to install. There's just one screw to hold the base in place. I pre-drilled a hole and then used the screw to attach the base, which has two parts, to a wall. So the screw holds "Part A" on the wall/surface, then a second part, "Part B" - the part with the magnet, twists and snaps onto Part A. Once both parts are in place, just attach the camera magnetically, in any position you want. By "any", the camera will not aim parallel to a wall that it's mounted on but, but you have easy and unlimited adjustment within the limits of it's range, where the magnet still holds it in place. It's probably the most simple mount I've used for anything, and it doesn't seem weak or like more is needed. The magnet(s) is very strong! There's a power cord that can connect when the camera is mounted or when the camera is off the mount. Setup I found the setup to be very easy. I did run into one snafu the first time I tried to set it up. Somehow I managed to get it in a state where the alarm kept going off. Every 5 or 10 minutes the alarm would sound for about 30 seconds. It was very annoying. I tried disabling the alarm a number of different ways but couldn't find a way to. Finally, I did a factory reset (just had to hold down a button on the back of the camera) and set it up again. Since that, no issues! So just watch the options as you go through the setup. I'm not sure what I did by accident the first time but again. Do make sure you keep all the papers that come with it. You will need the card with a QR code to setup the camera the first time, as well as if you need to set it up again. You will need to install the Hue app on your phone to configure the camera too. Image Quality This is a 1080p camera. You may be thinking you want a 4K camera but that takes more storage and bandwidth. This camera has very good 1080p image quality. The night vision is black and white but it still has very good quality and contrast. In fact, I specifically impressed with the color and brightness which was rich and very bright, brighter than life as the sun was going down in the evening. I looked out the window and it looked darker outside than the image looked that I was getting from the camera. Yes, it does switch to black and white at some point but it seems to squeeze out all the rich, bright color it can until it switches to black and white. Battery Life Battery Life is excellent! It seems to lose less than 2% in 24 hours - which I think is incredible. This is still early and the power usage may/will depend on features being used and other settings, but right now I think the battery life is very, very, good. I had monitored zone set at first, which probably uses more power, but I don't right now because I wanted to check the battery life. It's going down so little though I'm not sure how much difference it makes. Anyway, I'm very happy with the battery life and since the mount is magnetic, it's easy to pull the camera off the mount to charge it once a month or however often I end up needing to. Features Besides, easy setup, great image quality, and great battery life - all of which I mentioned above, there are a few features I wanted to highlight. One is "Blackout Zones". Being able to select regions for a camera to monitor is common. But I wasn't familiar with blackout zones. This actually lets you create regions in your video that are not recorded. It's very easy to use and just gives you a gray area in that region on the video, live feed or recording. I used this to blackout a window in our house so the whole scene in view is recorded except the view into our house. I did this more out of fun than necessity and because I wanted to try it but again - it was easy to do and worked as expected! The other feature is the detection options. I has motion detection included for free but with the Basic or Pro plan it has person, animal, vehicle, and package detection. I feel like that covers about everything. I like the package detection option. I haven't tried it yet but that could be very useful if I'm away and want to call a friend when a package arrives for them to keep it safe for me. Summary If you're looking for an easy to install security camera with great image quality that can run on battery for extended periods of time, the Hue Battery Security Camera is a great option!
