After deciding I wanted to get into smart lights, I weighed the options & decided on the Philips Hue system. Mostly because I liked that they offered a variety of different bulb options & fixtures, were a wifi (not blutooth) based system, & are pretty flexible with regards to being Zigbee, IFTTT, & 3rd party app compatible. Also, Philips isn't going belly up anytime soon as far as I can tell. These bulbs give a great "white" spectrum that accurately reproduce daylight & incandescent/tungsten light. So you can match them to existing incandescent bulbs or to the natural lighting you get throughout the day. The trade off is that in order to get that detailed spectrum of white, these bulbs were shorted blue diodes (They have 5 yellow, 4 red, & 2 blue total diodes) which means that they leave a bit to be desired if you're looking for full party colors. Particularly when you dial in blue or green which come off more purple & yellow respectively. The other colors are pretty good but if you're looking for a saturated & fully versatile smart party bulb, you're better off going with something else or waiting. Philips Hue has finally addressed this & are releasing an updated color bulb sometime around October 2016 with improved color rendering index & output. So I'd definitely wait for those as they're supposed to be the same price as these will probably be discounted & phased out. That being said, I've found that this color disparity does not apply to all Hue products. For example, the Hue Go features both the full spectrum of White as well as a true RGB color spectrum so its blues & greens appear as they should. Whereas the Hue Bloom has the full RGB spectrum but not feature the full White spectrum.

Really enjoy the HUE light system. It works great with IF for home automation and the Amazon echo. However - it is way too expensive per bulb.

I got three bulbs and changing the colors throughout the house or using them all in one room is so fun ! Definitely a plus for my parties !
