So reliable. And easy to set up. Get notified when motion is noticed and you’re able to turn on in my case lights when I’m not home and at night.

    consider before buying

These sensors sound like a quick, inexpensive, and easy fix for the problems associated with having Hue lights in key areas/rooms of your home like the master bathroom, but not wanting to constantly carry your phone around everywhere to control these lights, buy a voice smart home hub (Alexa, Google Home, etc.), and/or buy a bunch of Phillips dimmer switches (which do not match most older homes outlet/switch sizes). So I bought one to fix my issue above (just wanted a configurable control method for lights in key, heavily trafficked room that did not require device-in-hand). Here's what I found and some things to consider before buying...

Great addition to my hue system. Put it in the bathroom and was able to change how bright the lights were based on the time of day. Really convenient and easy to set up

Great as a night light in our hall

I have this in our hallway in which the bedrooms are and it is set to turn on to a nighlight setting for anyone at night. I really like them and how they work. A little quirky but Philips will probably resolve those issues. One, I have it set to turn on and then off after 5 minutes of no motion. i would like if they would restore the light to the setting at the end of the 5 minutes. It can be very sensitive. I have it set a medium and it picks up motion at the bottom of a full flight of stairs right when i take the first couple of steps. So, this allows my second setting to go on during the day and evening (full light).

Still trying to figure this out but it does work great at night when we need it most. Night time setup was easy and senses when we are in a room. Still trying to figure out how to keep it from activating during the day.

Added this sensor to my Hue setup to turn on my outdoor Hue lights when motion is detected on the path to my front door. So far it’s working as designed!

I am fully invested in the Phillips Hue Eco System. I probably own over 20 of their products. I purchased the motion sensor because I'm lazy. Haha. Who wants to walk into their home (at night) and have to start fumbling around looking for a light switch. The motion sensor takes care of that me. Yes, I could set up Geofencing through the app but I haven't yet. I enjoy the option to have the motion sensors turn on your lights to a dim setting during the late night/early morning hours for moments while you go to the bathroom, have a late night snack or have a drink of water.

I have few motion sensors at my house, however, Phillips does the best job. It is super responsive and primarily if setup appropriately does work with the Homekit devices. I use this in my kitchen with Lifx/Lutron/Sylvania devices and it does a great job. If you are using this with the phillips hue devices, it also does a good job with turning off the lights after a certain time of no motion detected. This is not possible if you are using homekit. Althouth I love the product, I just feel it is over priced considering it only works with the hub

Was disappointed when I got this sensor home and realized it wasn't integrated with Apple's Homekit. However, a recent update has changed all of that. This product works flawlessly as a standalone. I use it in the entrance of my home to turn on lights when I enter a dark house. There are tons of settings for different times of day, which make for some fun customizations.

    My Sixth Motion Sensor

This is the sixth Philips Hue Motion Sensor that I have bought for my apartment. Especially at night, it makes it very easy to go from room to room without having to think about flipping a light switch, and thus I can keep my mind on more imprtant things as I walk. Upon leaving a room, I don't have to remember to turn out lights as I leave the room. Saves a little electricty since I am not leaving the lights on, too. The motion sensors also adjust the light levels depending on the time of day. Thus I am very happy with my motion sensors.

I use this sensor in place of the SmartThings sensors due to its reliability! This sensor is not dependent on the Internet or a cloud service which means that my lights continue to work regardless my Internet connection. I am currently writing my own rules for this sensor with the philips hue API in order to meet my home automation requirements. I am writing my own rules for this sensor because the software for this sensor are extremely basic when using the Hue app on iOS. The hardware sensor is very high quality; the app to control it not so much... perhaps a software update will correct this deficiency. Philips did update the Hue dimmer switch functionality in their latest software update. Still, I much prefer this sensor as compared to a cloud-based hardware platform like the Centralite Motion Sensor for Samsung SmartThings.

Took a bit of set up, but once I got it working it's made a convert of the whole family. We are going to buy more! Longer story - I placed this in the main bathroom of our house so it turn on the lights as soon as it sees motion. Very handy in a house with little ones who sometimes push "potty time" to the last minute, :) I also set it so that at night it turns on to a lower brightness - good for those of us who have late night calls but don't want full intensity. Compared to any other automated switch, the price is right.

I have a half flight of stairs from my basement to my garage. It’s Always dark in there going from either direction. I put the sensor at the top of the stairs inside the door. The sensor does an excellent job detecting motion in either the top or bottom of the stairs. It has not once failed to turn the light on in either direction. This is an excellent Sensor. It connected to the hub in a flash and it shows usage on my apple HomeKit screen. It also shows light level in the stairwell as well as temperature.
