Great for night time safety
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an affordable little addition to the Hue system but it has pretty specific uses. While it is advertised mostly as a convenience option for turning on lights when entering a room, I think it has more practical uses. Putting a detectors in the stairs and setting the sensor to function at night only has been a real safety improvement for having to go downstairs in the middle of the night. Allowing it to put lights on at a fraction of the brightness means that you can use it as a night light with the Hue lights you already have installed. Best of all, it eliminates the need to get out a smartphone and works on a timer to set the lights back off. A new generation of this device must surely be due soon. It does seem that some security and Home Kit features were left out initially, but for the low price I do think that it is an effective device.

Must Have with Philip Hue lights
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love anything HUE and this motion sensor is awesome. I use it in all the hands free areas such as laundry room and garage. But the best is we set it up to come on when we or guest walk through the house late night. It picks up movement and turns on certain lights (dimmed) at night to help us see. It helps avoid any falls.

Got to add these to the system
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got the sensors for the kitchen and garage stairs. I just walk in then the lights come on. I chose in the app very easily to turn off in 2 minutes. I put one bulb on the front and back porch, with a timer that turns on at night, then off in the morning. Efficiency. Everyone would love this if they tried it, very simple to use.

Does what it's supposed to

Worked Like a charm
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything I've come to love about Phillips hue. It works very fluidly with the rest of the system easy to set up and works every time I couldn't recommend this more

Good sensor, but overpriced and finicky.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works, the battery life is insane (had it for almost 2 years now and still haven't needed to change the battery) but functionality is kinda lacking. The motion sensing seems to lack sensitivity. Even at maximum sensitivity, it seems to have a narrow cone of motion sensing, making it annoying as I have to swing my arm around to get it to pick up motion when sitting down at my desk. The daylight sensing is also off. I've had to readjust so often to get it working, and just as I think i got it right it doesn't turn the lights on because it decides "well I know yesterday I said this wasn't sufficient sunlight, but TODAY its sufficient" even though there's less ambient light in the room today than yesterday. For this price, i'd expect this sensor to have a much wider range and have a daylight sensor that is more consistent.

disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i’m extremely invested in the hue ecosystem (lights, switches, strips, etc) and have used these sensors in various ways in three different homes. i love the flexibility - programming for me has been great, they are responsive, and work well (when they’re working). i found out tonight that my second sensor has gone bad. i’m having hvac problems and about to go out of town. since they also monitor temperature, i thought i’d move my basement closet sensor into the room i wanted to monitor. not only is this sensor not working, but i’m unable to reset it and fresh batteries don’t do anything (just like the last one, which i contacted philips about to eventually find that the only thing i could do is buy another - which i did). 2 of 3 of these sensors have gone bad for me…that’s $100 out of $150 spent on these alone. it’s a huge bummer and i definitely feel stuck because i love these things and the other hue stuff i have, but i’m not real excited to spend another $50 with no promise of improvement. hope something is in-the-works to make these better.
