For the initial setup it was horrible The app for at lease on android wouldn't work properly, when trying to sync to the network I have to disconnect my phone to continue the setup progress. It's not really the device fault but the app. Regardless after an hour I have managed to set it up, it works wonderfully

A lot of issues getting it to sync my lights with my Apple TV. Spent hours on forums trying to figure it out and then randomly I got a prompt to change to Dolby Vision and everything started working. I also didn’t realize I couldn’t just use it with my smart TV and had to plug an external device in. Works great now though

I bought the Philips hue bridge with the philips sync box and 65" lights. The set up was... easy, it was more frustrating the amount of time it took to set it up. All 3 together is over $600. Waaaayyyy over priced, it look nice but you can live without it. Some times it dont turn on by itself so you have to use your phone or hit the button on the box. If you have money to blow like that... I wouldn't recommend this to a friend just for the fact they cant afford it

Been using the Sync Box for a few weeks now and here are my thoughts. Wanted one when it was first released but I knew that as a new product, that it would be glitchy and need a few updates before it was ready for primetime. Before you try using this device DO THE UPDATES FIRST. Can't stress that enough. Update the device first, make sure that your lights are updated, create your entertainment zone in the main Hue app first, and download the Hue Sync app. The Sync Box uses its own app for control, not the original Philips Hue app. For simplicity sake I use my stereo receiver as a hdmi switcher instead of the Sync. Less work for the Sync Box and less chance of it locking up switching ports when all it has to do is monitor one port. Before you add the Sync Box to Alexa or Google home get familiar with it first and play around with it for a few days. So far my Sync works great and the Hue lights do a great job of expanding the effects field of my tv and makes the actual viewing area look larger. I'm running 7 Hue Play Bar lights on the back of a 65 inch Sony 4k TV. You can use Play Bar, Light Strip, bulbs, lamps, or any portable lighting made by Philips Hue for effects as long as they have been setup in your entertainment zone first. I love it so far and will be adding lights in the corners to increase the effects. Great item with a small learning curve that can get more expensive real quick. Enjoy.

To some degree, I feel like Philips can charge these kind of prices for there Hue line-up because no other companies can compete seriously. This Hue Sync Box + Hue Gradient Lights is a AMAZING combo. I wouldn't buy this if you didn't also have/get the Hue Gradient Lights. In doing so, you're spending several hundreds of dollars. It's not a cheap accessory, but boy does it at more depth to movies and shows. I don't always use this sync box, but that's kind of the beauty of it. By default it's off. So, if I tell Google to turn on my TV lights, it will turn on the Hue Gradient Lights without automatically syncing.. because sometimes, I just want a static back lighting. If I want to start syncing with my TV, I just open the app and tell it to sync. The app is also very intuitive and simple to use. You can sync all your other Hue lights too. I have few lamps on my sides of my couch and corners of the room, with RGB Hue bulbs. I can add those to the sync-ing.

Essential for multi input media center with hue connectivity, however costly and cumbersome to use. Though it does what is expected, there is a learning curve and tolerance that needs to be built. For example, there is lag between starting and stopping sync from phone to actual results, there is a second app which seems wholly unnecessary, usb power on off functions works occasionally, changing light config for entertainment zone is yet another laggy response item.... but it works. And when it does work and is set in a singular config a, it works great!

Was able to get this set up in about 10 minutes. Hooked my HDMI out from my receiver into the HDMI1 slot and then used another HDMI to go to the TV. All other accessories use their original HDMI slot in the receiver. Was able to add a Hue light strip and the hue light bars to the back of the tv. Easy to locate in the Hue Play app and get set up. My TV has come to life and enhances the overall experience.

The Philips - Hue Play HDMI LightnSync Box is so close to the perfect solution for syncing your hue lights with your visual media. The only issue is that it is not quite powerful enough to provide the true lighting experience I'm aiming to get. The sync box can keep up for a while providing a professional level lighting experience with easy control at an insanely low price for the performance. But the hardware can be pushed too hard and crash. My only personal gripe is that there is not an Ethernet port, WiFi affects the performance. Still a great product, it's not IMAX quality but who cares.

Works well. Incredibly overpriced for what it is. But at least it does do what it’s supposed to be doing. And it does that well, and it does it consistently. Buy it refurbished and you’ll be extremely happy!!! For $49 or maybe even $99 this “hdmi splitter” would be 5 star from myself and everyone else all day long. For $229 you gotta be kiddin me. But hey, at least it does work well. Buy refurbished and never look back!

This is awesome for making games and some movies way more immersive! Animated content looks great with light sync, however I turn it off when watch normal tv shows as it can be more distracting. Hue also has the white point set too high, their white LEDS at 50% brightness are much brighter than any other color. This makes scene changing very jarring when you have a lot of lights set up. Also this product is very over priced, you could go through the work and make your own. But if you have disposal money or find this on sale then pick it up.

This thing rules. I used my pc before for the light control but I wasn’t able to use my consoles or blu ray players with my light set up. Now I can use everything! There are only a few complaints, not even major though. One is Dolby Vision content doesn’t light correctly until you dig into the menu and click Dolby compatibility. The second thing is that it’s limited to 60hz. I’m sure the next one will go up to 120hz. Not a really big complaint because 120hz isn’t the most widely available thing currently.

I'd really gotten hooked on the Hue family of lights, adding them all over. I liked the atmosphere that the Sync Box would add to our home theater. Hardware setup was very simple, and setting up the app was a little more difficult but not horrible. I have 3 Play lights on the back of the TV. When the box works, it's spectacular. The additional depth and framing is great. The speed in which the colors adjust to the content is instant. The problem is that the box will just lose the source as if it's no longer connected. This will happen in the middle of gameplay (PS4) most often. Other times the signal is never detected and you need to power cycle everything. Sometimes you won't even get the box to power on, so there's no LED at all. Since all video passes through it, whether you have it syncing or not, you won't get any picture if it's not working. These issues seem to be fairly common. I've removed the sync box from the mix for some time out of frustration and try it again every now and then. Given the high price tag for such a niche piece of equipment, I would have expected much better.

I was very excited to finally get the sink box, setting it up was relatively easy although bouncing between the two different Philips hue apps is very annoying. I was also extremely disappointed that the device does not sync your lights when streaming from a smart TV application, it only works when using an external device like a cable box or PlayStation.

Finally took the plunge in adding the ambilight effect to my home theater setup. The sync box has had its minor glitches with losing the display but that seems to have been fixed by changing to the hdmi port with arc. I'm sure software updates will also help the device. Video quality doesn't seem to be effected either. I currently have this hooked up in the middle of my receiver and tv. The receiver receives the input from my Xbox out from the receiver into the sync box then to the TV.
