you really need to have your TV and lights set up in an ideal spot for this. First I had it connected to the lights in the TV room and a Hue lightstrip behind the TV. This was way too distracting for me, no matter how low I had the settings. Totally distracting for movies but fun for video games I would guess. Then I just had lightstrip connected for backlighting. On TV in my den, there is a floating shelf above TV. This created a dramatic, distracting shadow while watching movies. So I tried it in bedroom which is mounted on wall near corner. This didn't work either as the light hitting the corner wall on right side of TV was much more intense the on left side of TV, which the light dispersed into rest of bedroom. I think ideally you'd want a completely blank, preferably white wall, with nothing on either side of TV or above to cast shadows, etc. White walls make the colors from lights more true... it you have color painted walls in doesn't work as well as it throws the color from lights off. It's also too bad the app isn't incorporated to Hue app.

I have two of these (living room and game room) and both work great, especially when paired with the Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip. I did initially have issues with Dolby Vision content/Apple TV, but when I checked the Dolby Vision compatibility setting in the Hue app, it was fixed. Although the Entertainment Area setting in the Hue App only allows 10 lights to be synced, the new App update allows three separate zones for the new ambiance Gradient strip (as well as the Play gradient strip) to be adjusted while still only counting as one light, so I will be replacing my traditional lightstrips with the gradient ones for even better syncing. New update also supports 120 mhz at 1440p on next gen counsels.

This box is not compatible with Dolby Vision, as described. I had to return it because it was creating a flicker on the tv and a sound interruption every few minutes when in 4K HDR 60Hz. It did not make it on 4K SDR, 4K HDR 30hz or any other resolution lower than that. My TV is a brand new LG C9 OLED 65 inch. I also purchased brand new HDMI 4K compatible cables for my Apple TV, TV, PS4 and Commcast box. I did not have the problem when I connected directly from my Apple TV to the TV. If they improve the box in the future I will try it again, it is a cool product when it works. Also, I noticed that it favors the reds and purples even with the image on the screen has none of those hues. I wish the app had a way for you to set a preference on colors or limit certain tones. No granular control of how it sycncs the colors.

The included HDMI cable is thin, flimsy, and cheap. I had to replace it to fix a multitude of issues I kept running in to. The box only supports 2.4GHz wireless, which anymore is overrun with noise and other devices. Would be nice to see a second generation of this come out with Ethernet and/or 5GHz wireless. The power brick has three sockets on it that you can plug the box, and the gradient strip into it to save precious plug space. Continue to have a lot of issues with my Insignia FireTV, occasionally have to unplug everything and replug to get things working again. Works fine with my LG TV though. Unless you really need or want Hue sync, I would wait for a second generation of this product.

So my TV is old. I mean even in non-TV years, my TV is still old! I'm talking about 5 years. It's a 4K but it lacks many features and qualities the TVs that have come after it possess. So I was at the verge of upgrading it when I decided to give this little guy a try--not thinking that simply adding a Hue HDMI box would make me change my mind about upgrading my TV of course! But it did! I mean it improved my TV watching experience sooooooo much that I simply forgot about upgrading my TV. The initial investment is too much in my opinion, and today there are better and much cheaper alternatives. But do your own research and make an informed decision. After all, you are the Howard Hughes of whether or not to buy more Hues...

After messing around with opensource software, custom products and almost going away from Hue lights for my entertainment areas this BOX was finally introduced and then I bought it!! While others will tell you the downfall with Dolby vision I can tell you using this box with all of my TV inputs (Apple TV and Xbox) I cannot tell any visual issues. The only problems we run into our with our surround sound system (Sonos); there are times that it doesn't read the sound input but we had this issue before the Sync box was installed. For light setup started with are 3 Hue PLay lights that are mounted to the TV and then 3 other color hue bulbs in a floor lamp and finally a single color bulb in a table lamp. 3 lights at the front of the room and the other 4 at the back of the room where we sit. While the color changing to match the screen content is awesome having so many lights interact was a bit annoying/intrusive. We opted to have only the front 3 lights color change for TV/movie use and then add in the back 4 during gaming.

Love the way this makes you TV seem larger with the ambient light. Did have an issue with getting it to work one time (probably just a firmware update) but it is pretty easy to use. A little pricey in my opinion but it does work as expected.

It was good, but the issue is it only works with 2023 and newer Samsung TVs. I tried so many workarounds including Bluetooth cables, connecting directly to the WiFi, etc, but it only works with PlayStation or newer Samsung TVs

It is a nice touch to add some ambiance when watching movies and TV. I like how the lighting changes to match what's on the TV. It is more immersive. It can be a bit distracting when watching some shows, so we don't have them sync all the time.

I’ve seen some bad review here and there, decided to buy it for full living room lights experience. I’m more into technology stuff, I’m very knowledgeable with hue products. Please read manual papers they tell you what exactly what you need to do. Hue bridges are must have, well worth the price. I’m using 4K Apple TV and Blu Ray player they function with hue box much better and gives greater experience lights in my living room. Your Tv in app home screen will “NOT” Work, if I am mistaken, has no HDMI output to hue sync box to work. Needs to be connected by other HDMI such as tv box etc. Overall I fell in love and will be rewatching movies and tv shows with hue sync box.

This product works great with most products plugged directly into it. I am experiencing issues with connectivity to my PS5. I mainly bought it for watching movies, not gaming so I'm not that bothered by it. Unless there's something I'm doing improperly. For some it's a deal breaker. Be forewarned.

Works just as it says. A little pricey but guess that's ok considering it is a premium product. Hopefully an updated version will be released that supports more lights. If you can pick it up during a good sale it's a no brainer!

I love the convenience of switching my devices without touching the TV remote anymore. With some Philips lights, the experience is truly amazing! However, I’ve encountered several bugs occasionally and find it challenging to sync the lights.

I'm about 5 days in, my biggest complaint is that it disconnects itself from the Hue Bridge. Sometimes it could be ok for a couple of hours then sometimes it can be in a matter of minutes. Then I will need to go to App and reconnect to the bridge in order for the syncing to work. It can be frustrating.

The product is fine, but it has many restrictions and I would like them to not incorporate it so that it is interactive with the TV system without the need for external adapters.

Decent device but only if you have a bunch of hue lights. I only had the ones in my overhead light and it didn’t have much impact. Did have some issues switching between devices but I think that was my lack of knowledge not a device issue. I ended up returning because it wasn’t worth the price for my setup

I have replaced all bulbs in my home with Hue. The Sync Box was a natural addition during self-isolation and increased movie watching. It provides some awesome lighting effects and syncs instantly with the picture. The device is a bit pricey, but works beautifully! If you have home theater sound, this would be worth the investment.
