Definitely buy this with light strip!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works well but very glitchy when turning on and off. App crashes and lights flash a lot when turning on/off the sync. But when it is working it is beautiful. Extends the TV (I have the 65” light strip and multiple living room lights) and the experience greatly.

Overall a good item to add more immersion
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This item is a bit pricey but I got it on sale along with a 50 gift card so to me the price is justified. I would recommend using this on action heavy movies or animation and you will love the experience. Otherwise i could see how this could be a distraction. I would definitely recommend adding this item into your home.

Works as advertised.
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hooked up with 3 of the Hue Play lights and a TCL 6 series TV, it really does add to the experience of watching movies, gaming, etc. One really great type of content to try with this device is a concert. When the stage lights pan across the screen and the lights flash in unison it's very realistic feeling. Pretty neat.

Expensive for only "OK"
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first box I bought was defective and no matter what I tried, would not complete the first time set up via the app. Also related, their help page(s) on Hue's own website was very unhelpful. I exchanged it for another one, and it did connect properly, but it had a LOT of issues working properly, where it failed way more often than it worked. I have a fairly mid-high end set up with 4K HDR (HDR10) Sony TV, with a Marantz SR6011 (4K HDR compatible) receiver responsible for audio and input switching from an Xfinity cable box, 4K Apple TV, and 4K Bluray player and others. I tried different cables, I tried different sources, but every time, the lights would go "off white" and dim to the lowest setting and stay there. No change. Then the video would either be all black, not work at all (no input message on TV) or it would show the proper image. Sometimes the unit would auto detect the source, sometimes it wouldn't. The only thing that worked was to use the 2nd, zone2 output from the Marantz directly to the Hue Play, leaving it out entirely from the main chain. However this presents the problem of having to double my interaction with my TV, after setting my Main input settings, I have to change my Zone 2 settings. Even when the affect is working, its only best on the low setting, any higher it is too distracting for general content. And with movies that have the black bars on the top and bottom? well it renders any top or bottom zones pretty much useless, leaving only the sides. All in all, it's an overly expensive product, kind of gimicky, and it doesn't even work well, or at least well enough for the price it's set at. It's a cool idea, but as a Hue fan, use the money on more bulbs instead.

Great Addition To Your Hue Lights
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is really nice to have when you want to set the mood for a movie or tv show. It certainly adds to the effect. I get a better sense of scenes when the ambient lighting changes accordingly. So far, I haven't hand any problems with the lighting changing when a show or movie scene changes. This is working with all of the Hue lights I have in my living room. I haven't experienced any overheating problems. The only issue I have with it so far is that sometimes it doesn't auto power on when I turn on my tv even though the input source is on. When it doesn't come out of standby mode, I have to change the TV input source to something else then change it back. Once that is done, it auto powers on. You can use the app to manually turn it on, but I don't want to have to take out my phone, open the app, then bring it out to standby mode. This happens about 50% of the time. Other than that, this is a great addition to my Hue lights. I would recommend this as it does enhance the movie viewing experience.

For gamers. Not smart-tv watchers.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have a lot of Hue products and were excited when we saw this new product. From the advertisements, it looked like it would be an amazing addition to our home theater. We bought it and THEN realized that its really made for gamers. If you own a smart TV, then it won't project the light of your apps/shows (netflix, hulu, ect.), it will only project products that you can CONNECT (playstation, xbox, probably a Amazon fire stick). We ended up returning it because for the price, it wasn't really what we were looking for.

Posted .Hi Mack, thank you for your review. The Hue Play HDMI Sync Box will indeed only sync your lights to the HDMI devices that are plugged into it as the signal needs to pass through the device to be analyzed. That's unfortunately not possible with the apps on your Smart TV.
If you have a Blu-ray player, or an HDMI device that has streaming apps on them, you could still use the sync box for your movie nights.

Whoa.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Required a couple updates of the lamps, and the box, but after the setup was completed, there was no lag, no sync issues, no disconnecting. Adds a deep experience to the movie room that is worth every penny.

More is needed to have lights connect to tv
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not the only thing you need to purchase in addition to the lights that stick to your tv. You also need the Phillips Hue Bridge. We were nlt told this after we spent a ton of money for a new tv, the lights, above mentioned item and hue box

Overpriced, but works. No 4K/120 HDMI 2.1
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As with all hue products, they come at a premium price point. It works well with all hue lights and is easy to setup. It has 4K/60 passthrough so if you plan on using it with PS5/Series X, you won't get 120fps. I ended up plugging it into my AVR's 2nd monitor hdmi out and it works.

Expensive but worth it
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I normally don't write reviews for products here but I figured this time I would. I will say that this box truly adds to your viewing experience as it works really well and seems to change the lights almost immediately as the colors change on the TV. I am also a gamer and having the lights change while playing a game like Doom Eternal really just makes you feel that much more immersed in the experience. I had held off from buying this not only due to the price but also the fact that it didn't support Dolby Vision but that issue has been resolved due to a recent update. If you want to add another level to your home theater I think this box will help you do that.

Good but not perfect
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the sync box as an addition to my hue bulb and LED strip. It's nice but I can notice a slight delay before the light changes. It works with Dolby Vision and Atmos. I also like that fact that you can plug upto 4 devices into this box and only one box goes to the ARC HDMI port on your TV.

Nice. Fun lighting
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works as advertised. May take a little getting used to especially for some slow moving scenes. The auto selection of inputs gets a little annoying. Wish I could select default input and manually select outside the app. Probably a bit expensive like all hue gadgets. But I like the effect in general.

Really cool for theaters
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So we had a bunch of Hue lights in our family room / theater, and bought this for ambience using the existing lighting we already had (LED Tape lights behind the TV, as well as several lamps and pendant lights). The lights through the room sync with whatever is playing on the TV. Increasing brightness and intensity can be distracting to the movie being watched. Setting the brightness and intensity to lower settings though really have a cool effect for the movie being watched, especially when it's full of action and explosions. Totally a extraneous purchase, and pretty expensive for that, but just adds such a cool touch to the home theater experience.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Easy setup (I already had some hue lights and the bridge). It adds so much to the experience of watching movies and playing games. If you’re on the fence…go for it.

Simple to use but a little overpriced
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Hue HDMI Sync box provides a really simple way to add interactive ambiance lighting to a home theater. But it's pretty expensive for just being the device that reads HDMI inputs to provide color signals. Hopefully the product comes with plenty of software support to keep it relevant for years.

Great Experience
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been waiting for this product for a while. I loved the experience with the Hue lights I have behind my TV, but they only worked when I streamed content from my PC. The play box fixed that. Initial setup didn't work at first, had to disable then enable Bluetooth on my Pixel 3 XL to connect. Connected my Shield box and my Blu Ray player to the box, ran the output from the box to my soundbar, viola, up and running. Been about 48 hours, no issues with the connection or light issues. The price point is high, but with already having a hub and about twenty Hue lights already it's a moot point. I've heard it has issues with Apple TV, but being an all Google household it's amazing!

It's good but not perfect
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I very much enjoy using it with the play lights. It isn't perfect by any means but it is nice to have the features on my TV I have been looking to get for a long time. It really adds to the experience of watching a movie makes it come off the screen just a little bit more than it otherwise would.
