The Hue HDMI Sync box provides a really simple way to add interactive ambiance lighting to a home theater. But it's pretty expensive for just being the device that reads HDMI inputs to provide color signals. Hopefully the product comes with plenty of software support to keep it relevant for years.

I've been waiting for this product for a while. I loved the experience with the Hue lights I have behind my TV, but they only worked when I streamed content from my PC. The play box fixed that. Initial setup didn't work at first, had to disable then enable Bluetooth on my Pixel 3 XL to connect. Connected my Shield box and my Blu Ray player to the box, ran the output from the box to my soundbar, viola, up and running. Been about 48 hours, no issues with the connection or light issues. The price point is high, but with already having a hub and about twenty Hue lights already it's a moot point. I've heard it has issues with Apple TV, but being an all Google household it's amazing!

It creates a very immersive experience. I thought it might be distracting but it totally makes it seem like your tv is larger if you set it up correctly. I live in a one-bedroom apartment and the biggest tv I own is a 55" OLED. I didn't want to go bigger because the room isn't all that big. The lights I have hooked up to this box make the TV seem like an IMAX experience, it's great. It's only a little bit of a bummer that you can't use the smart tv apps. has to be a source from HDMI going into the box then to the tv. I have an Xfinity 4k cable box that the apps are butt and don't always work.

I very much enjoy using it with the play lights. It isn't perfect by any means but it is nice to have the features on my TV I have been looking to get for a long time. It really adds to the experience of watching a movie makes it come off the screen just a little bit more than it otherwise would.

This product is awesome it does what it says, I would have gave 5 stars, but theres a few bugs. Sometimes it doesn't turn the lights on when I want, its a simple fix just hit the restart from your phone and all is well. just more of an annoyance than anything. I'm sure updates will fix this issue

This is amazing! Easy to hook up and works great with the lights. It’s a switch, so you do have to change ports select (doesn’t have a remote) which can be annoying. Everything else is awesome!

Overall this product is nice to have. Some issues we had with it though was sometimes we'd have trouble connecting to the different devices (i.e. Playstation, Nintendo Switch, etc) and that made it a hassle to deal with. Overall though it was a cool product to get.

The effect works and looks great but not sure it is worth the price. Using this with my Bose sound car took me not using ARC and relying on a fiber optic cable between my TV and sound bar.

I decided to purchase this when I noticed that BB had it on sale. Having already purchased the Hue play bars it was an easy decision. The set up was straight forward. I like that the power supply contains extra ports to run your play bars to as not to tie up extra ports on your power strip. I see some reviewers are not too happy about having to download an additional app (Hue Sync) and I can see their argument. Maybe in the foreseeable future Phillips will send an update where it will all run on one app. I really enjoy the light syncing feature for movies. It adds that extra ambiance around the TV where it is most effective. Syncing additional lights in the entertainment zone is neat to try but not really needed. Unless you’re one of those TV viewers that wants to really immerse themselves in a viewing experience by dimming all the lights and watching movies in a theatre like environment. For me, I just use the play bars and one Hue Go lamp and it works great.

It was good, but the issue is it only works with 2023 and newer Samsung TVs. I tried so many workarounds including Bluetooth cables, connecting directly to the WiFi, etc, but it only works with PlayStation or newer Samsung TVs

Overall it’s a great item and it does what it’s intended for. I get compliments all the time when I have visitors over. Easy to install, slim enough to tuck away or hide. I only have one negative thing to say about Hue HDMI box. It might not be a big deal to some but to me I think it’s really unnecessary. My complaint is that you have to install a separate app (Hue Sync App) in order to use it. I don’t understand why Philips/Hue didn’t just make an update on their original Hue app instead of having to creat a separate one, it’s just inconvenient sometimes. Overall if you don’t mind downloading a separate app then you’ll enjoy this device for sure!

I used to have a Philips TV when the first flat screen tv's came out in 2006. The coolest feature of the TV was the backlighting on the sides of tv that reproduced the colors on the TV screen. We enjoy for several years. I have not seen any other TV's with this feature so assumed it was a one time thing. When I came upon this and saw I could do the same surround lighting once again with this unit, I immediately bought it. It is really incredible, works great and colors are very accurate to what is on the screen. The lighting for music is really cool also and lights the room up nicely matching the beat of music playing. Cool tech product!

We use the Philips Hue HDMI Sync Box behind our TV, and it’s fantastic. It syncs perfectly with our lights and makes movies and shows feel more immersive. Easy to set up, and we love the atmosphere it creates.

I love the convenience of switching my devices without touching the TV remote anymore. With some Philips lights, the experience is truly amazing! However, I’ve encountered several bugs occasionally and find it challenging to sync the lights.

This is a very cool product but as a lot have said, it is kind of a gimmick. For me, it is too distracting for watching movies but it’s fun to use here and there. The high price makes it hard to justify for the use I get out of it.

I have 4 hue ambient lights and 3 strip lights in my room so I decided to pick this one up. Set up was a breeze like seriously in less than a min. What took long was the Firmware update otherwise had no problem with it. Totally worth it if you invested a lot in hue lights and if you got cash to burn!

This is a great way to have your lights sync with your TV. What I don't like is that the lights do not sync to the apps preloaded on your TV. It will only sync HDMI devices connected through the sync box. Also, changing HDMI inputs should be easier. Using the one button on the sync box just cycles through your HDMI inputs without being able to directly select which input you want to use. The app allows you to directly select which input although my phone is not always around when I'm watching TV. So this requires you to walk up to the sync box to manually push the button.

So everyone complains about how overpriced Philips Hue products are and Philips should get the hint and reduce the prices to be within reason… I have just gotten into Philips Hue Lights switching from Sengled. Overall willing to overpay because it is superior quality…. When I found out about this box I was willing to overpay for it too because I really wanted to sync movies workouts etc with my lights. Overall it works and is neat.. The thing is.. For the unreasonably high price for this box, it is fair to expect near perfection from it.. Not the case… Every time I turn it on the screen flickers several times from black to static screen to purple and back, before a stable picture is displayed and it may go purple again in the next minute before it stopped… I figured this was related to auto input detection so I switched to manual input and manually selected the ONE powered on input and it still flickered like mentioned… Also something everyone should think about: This will complicate your TV setup… You will need to ‘Start Sync’ from your phone each time.. I found eating while watching a movie with flickering lights was unpleasant so I switched to regular and then turned back on. All requiring my phone app.. My wife got very irritated with Apple TV ‘not working’ because of that flickering issue and I had to explain how she needs to wait… A lot of unnecessary complications for a little extra enjoyment. My take on Philips Hue products in general is they are definitely over priced but higher end and you can do things with it you cant with other setups such as scenes which you can even derive from any picture, etc. And no other setup I know of even has a native equivalent for the HDMI Sync box… However, with price in view, again, you have the right to demand nearly flawless performance. Thus I am returning this overpriced box. I love my lights but if they fell short of flawless performance within return period they would go straight back too.. Regardless Philips needs to rethink their pricing structure.
