I love how immersive this makes my listening and Movie watching experience. My big gripe is with the cost and need for multiple units if you want to set this up with each TV. It’s understandable but it can get pricey to outfit multiple rooms.

Philip's sync box adds great lighting effects to movie night. Set up was easy and with the app right on your phone enjoying the lighting effects is quick and simple.

So everyone complains about how overpriced Philips Hue products are and Philips should get the hint and reduce the prices to be within reason… I have just gotten into Philips Hue Lights switching from Sengled. Overall willing to overpay because it is superior quality…. When I found out about this box I was willing to overpay for it too because I really wanted to sync movies workouts etc with my lights. Overall it works and is neat.. The thing is.. For the unreasonably high price for this box, it is fair to expect near perfection from it.. Not the case… Every time I turn it on the screen flickers several times from black to static screen to purple and back, before a stable picture is displayed and it may go purple again in the next minute before it stopped… I figured this was related to auto input detection so I switched to manual input and manually selected the ONE powered on input and it still flickered like mentioned… Also something everyone should think about: This will complicate your TV setup… You will need to ‘Start Sync’ from your phone each time.. I found eating while watching a movie with flickering lights was unpleasant so I switched to regular and then turned back on. All requiring my phone app.. My wife got very irritated with Apple TV ‘not working’ because of that flickering issue and I had to explain how she needs to wait… A lot of unnecessary complications for a little extra enjoyment. My take on Philips Hue products in general is they are definitely over priced but higher end and you can do things with it you cant with other setups such as scenes which you can even derive from any picture, etc. And no other setup I know of even has a native equivalent for the HDMI Sync box… However, with price in view, again, you have the right to demand nearly flawless performance. Thus I am returning this overpriced box. I love my lights but if they fell short of flawless performance within return period they would go straight back too.. Regardless Philips needs to rethink their pricing structure.

Great product really does well to match the colors on the screen with the lights and now that it has support for hdr and Dolby vision is the reason I decided to get it still a bit pricey hot an Amazon echo included with the purchase so thats something.

Ok I’ve been wanting this for almost 18 years! I went to a buddy’s house and he had a Phillips tv that had the lights built in, I instantly knew I had to have this. Seeing they had ambilight TVs in england I contemplated buying it, but delivery was not available to the US. But luckily around this time they came out with this. I have an Xbox one x plugged into the back of the hue box, and my Comcast box plugged into my Xbox. I also have a Sonos beam connected to tv through arc. I ended up buying 4 hue color bulbs, and 4 light bulb - 4ft plugs and plugged all of the lights into a extension cord. I than attached each bulb with Velcro on the plastic socket part and stuck it to the back of the tv. I put one on each side about in the middle outside part, and two on the top of the tv. Pushed in enough so you wouldn’t see the bulb, but a glow. I’ve seen videos where people have a lamp 10 feet away from the tv and it just looks ridiculous. I wanted to imitate a glow from the screen. If there was blue water, I wanted blue to glow from behind the screen, not 10 feet away from the tv. Also turning it on and off was a real pain. It wasn’t working through hdmi. My stuff is always on except the TV. If I turned the tv on I had to open the app to turn the sync box on OR walk over and push the button on the front. I thought it was supposed to respond through hdmi to when it had seen a signal. Anyway, I found the solution. Buy a micro usb cord and plug it into your tv and the sync box, now it works. My wife hits the tv button, sync box turns on automatically with the tv turning on. Sync box turns off automatically when tv turns off. That was the main and only issue. I don’t have a problem opening the app to let the experience begin. But when my wife just wants to watch tv and it’s not working because the box wasn’t turning on prior to my micro usb purchase, it was a pain. So it all turns on and off accordingly with the tv, but to start the light show you still have to open the app and click start. Supposedly they are coming out with a future update to where I can tell Alexa to turn on my hue sync lights without having to grab my phone. If I’m not home and I’m the only one in the house that has the app downloaded, now my family members can do it themselves with their voice. All in all it works amazing, I have no issues. The only hiccup being the power issue. For my family if you add in steps and it doesn’t “just work” forget it. But the micro usb cord solved that. The addition of Alexa will be welcomed to turn hue sync lights on and off in a future update. Really pricey for not getting the “latest and greatest” in regards to Dolby, hdr10+. Or whichever it doesn’t support. As I plan to later get an oled tv at a later time. Making this partially incompatible in my future purchases.

Sync box, I love my entire hue set up and it’s important to know that you must have the sink box if you want to use it for the PS4 or your movies so that the lights work with whenever you’re watching

Works great with your Phillips hue lighting syncs perfectly. The only thing keeping from giving it five stars is that it doesn't come with a remote to switch between devices, you'll have to use the app.

The Sync can make for an awesome experience. The box can be buggy at times and doesn’t always play well with my Soundbar. Doesn’t support HDMI 2.1 which isn’t great for the next gen consoles. Hopefully they release a newer version soon.

The Philips Hue Sync Box can really bring your entertainment setup to the next level. Once you set up an "Entertainment Area" in your Hue app with the lights of your choice, you can have the Sync Box analyze your video signals and translate them into an epic light show for every television show or movie you can pump through it... unless it's a Dolby Vision program. For whatever reason, Philips supports DV passthrough but won't analyze the signal to provide signals to the Hue lights. You can use HDR 10, however, so it's not a complete loss. You can use as many or as little lights as you'd like. Most of the time I run just the two Sync Play Bars behind the TV, though it's fun to sometimes use every Hue light in the room to really make movie-watching an experience. I do hope Philips adds DV support though, because then this box would be PERFECT.

Bought for my hue lightstrip and works perfectly. Only recommendation I would have is to come with remote or easier way to switch between inputs. A little overpriced for what it does but everything hue is that way.

So this device definitely helps for watching movies - it's hard to use the lights for movies without this device if you want to use your smart TV, or a TV box. Most excitement comes from Game mode (not video mode) on most extreme setting, however the app won't let you define the lights "physically" in the right position to get the box software to process it optimally (am speculating here based on me changing the settings and seeing the outcome). The app assumes that the lights can not be behind the sitting area or further back behind the TV. And if you add the TV lights and combine them with ceiling lights, the processing seem to not perform as well, compared to if you have only one of the types of lights selected. I hope they improve the firmware and will definitely give 5 starts - fun ether way :)

This is an absolute if you really want to immerse into your gaming or movie realm. Somewhat over priced but you can tell this thing is made well. App is easy to use and the auto features are a must for quick power on and play.

11/2/2020 update: I returned the 1st Hue sync box (defective) and bought another. The 2nd one works perfectly and is amazing. Each side of the tv lights up the corresponding 3 hue lights in my room (left right ceiling).

It works great and is relatively easy to set up. Unfortunately, through some manner of build quality issues or software issues, these boxes appear to suffer from continuous errors. I have had to replace it twice in the past year for desyncing issues (which appears to be a permanent failure). I occasionally still have a random reboot mid-viewing that occurs once very ten or so hours of use.

I was an early adopter of Philips HuE lighting system. Purchasing the HuePlay was a no brainer no hesitation purchase. After about a week it became a little annoying. It was hooked up in my bedroom and basically forced me to always use the hue lighting while watching ANYTHING. That was a no-go especially when I was not home and my non tech savvy wife would be calling me every 45 minutes saying the TV wasn’t working or the lights kept going on blah blah blah. Will repurchase once I have a dedicated theater room. But other than that LOVED this product

Gave me the added effects that I was missing during movies, gaming, and sports. There are a few caveats that are discussed on length in other forums but truth be told, I really enjoy this product and can wait for future updates.
