This product needs a detailed review. I have been looking for one, but no one talked about it. So I bought it, and returned it, and here is why: To start off, I am a HUGE fan of Hue products. I have 2m lightstrip, 4 light bulbs, 4 downlights, and a remote. I love those products, and the Sync box has been on my list for months. I bought it, and here is why it was returned: 1. Doesn't sync properly: There are so many high reviews here of people saying this is amazing, but those reviews don't dive into the details. Now for this box, it is good but not for a $229 tag. If I am spending that much, I better get some high end tech that will absolutely change the way movies are watched. Let me expand on that... This box does not sync accurately. It doesn't pick the light from the edges, the calibration is very simple and weak, you don't have the ability to calibrate how the screen is reflecting on the lightstrip or which angles, instead, you just drag and throw your lights it on the screen (through the app), and at that point, good luck if it is pulling from the right angle or not, and whether it will actually cover the edges, or won't reflect until it gets to the middle of the screen. If I am spending $229, I better have the most advanced calibration system where you can tell the lightstrip that from this angle, I need you to sync with this part of the screen, etc. 2. This tech emphasized some parts of the screen: It takes the part that is covering most of the screen, and reflects it on the lights, and fill the room with it. Is it nice? Yes, is it accurate? Absolutely not. You might have 40% of the screen having blue, and 60% is yellow, it is more than likely taking the yellow, and making the whole strip yellow, and leaving that entire 40% of blue unreflecting. Why is this a problem? Because this technology is supposed to take what's on the screen, and expands it on the wall to be more immersive. But since it is not working properly, it is a lot more distracting and annoying. 3. If you use low settings, it will make the lights sync less, and it will seem like there is stuttering issues: It looks laggy and out of sync. You have to be using high, or extreme to get something close to smooth syncing. 4. The app needs a lot of improvements: I have seen indie apps that have a lot more settings compared to this huge brand app. I am really disappointed with how simple this app is. I saw the rating on the App store of 2.3/5.0 and I didn't believe it. I was like how bad could this be? Then when I actually tried it, it was truly disappointing (I am talking about the Sync app, not the Hue regular app, because that one is amazing). 5. Syncs through different devices: Again, for a tech as expensive as 229, I should expect to having those lights running through the TV apps, not a 2nd device (PS5, Xbox, etc.) I heard the Gradient Lightstrip has good zoning, and it might bring accuracy a bit up, BUT that's another $229.00, which is absurd. It doesn't even cover the bottom parts of your TV, which means you need to get another 3 lights that will cover that part, and that would be another 225 (75 each). Is it really worth it at this point? That's a question you, the reader, will have to think about. If this sync box was for $50, I would say I definitely recommend it. Otherwise, I would not. I will still be waiting for version 2.0 with an updated app, and hoping we will get something worth the upgrade.

I got the Sync Box and was really excited to use it. The setup was a breeze and getting it going was equally as easy. When it works its great, but it continuously drops signal. While watching a movie or playing video games, it drops signal for 5-10 seconds. Thinking about returning it because of these issues.

Yes, this product is a little expensive, but when purchased with the Philip hue light strip it makes the effect on your tv amazon. It’s needed to make your tv into a home theatre. It matches the light around the tv pop and makes it wild for an ordinary movie night

Purchased two of them for two TVs to use for syncing up my entertainment area lights. Overall it works well but definitely room for improvement. 1. Toggling hdmi input is slow and the auto-detection of input is not reliable. 2. Cannot control multiple sync boxes (without buying extra bridge as far as I know) 3. Remote integration and voice control still needs work

Like the title says if you looking for a awesome experience while watching movie or gaming (not for PS5 or Series X full 4K) then this is a must add on. You and anyone else who sits and watch will be WOWed. Its a light show like surround sound. But all this beauty will come with a price. The sink box is just a start you need a HUB if you don't already have one ($60). Need lights if you don't have any and boy the lights are costly but you get with what you pay for. My setup for my 82" TV is Gradient 75" ($270) four bar lights on bottom of TV ($70 each) three more below it ($70 each) and one on each side of the wall (2 at $70). Total $1,130 not including HUB. Just remember once you go Hue all your money blew lol. Enjoy like my family and I have been.

It’s not HDMI 2.1 so no 120hz. It’s also ridiculously priced. It’s very cool what it allows you to do though. I just wish for the price point they’d update it

The Phillips Hue Play sync box works ok most of the time. I have a real bad problem of the unit staying connected with playing. Not when you hook a fire stick up to it but especially when you hook a Directv box to it.

After installation of the Philips Hue Play, it works great. I like the fact that it's not on all the time. You have to use your smart phone to active the device and when you do, the back drop behind the TV just lights up. I love it.

Love this idea. I bought two for two different TVs. First one connected great. No problems. But the second one I can not get it to connect to the hub. Need to call customer service. But I love the light effects on the one that does work.

I bought this and a couple of Philips Hue Go lights. We watched Rise of Skywalker tonight and it was one of the coolest things. It really brought the movie to life especially when you see lightning flashes occurring in your room along with the movie.

The set up was really difficult to navigate through. After a few youtube videos and some additional recon we were able to get it set up. We ended up getting an amazon fire cub and some additional HDMI cables to get it to work. It really is like eye candy once its set up. We've been having a good time rewatching a lot of our old favorites like Avatar and Brave.
