Only thing that sucks is you now use an app to control the tv lighting or change inputs

I bought this on launch day because I was really excited about it. Now 5 months later I regret it. It looks great when it works. But it is not user friendly at all. No dedicated remote means you must use your phone and the horrible philips hue sync app. You have to switch tv inputs in the app. When the app does not work you cannot change your tv input meaning you can’t watch tv on any other inputs except the one it was last on. It only works with certain HDMI cables, sometimes it works and sometimes you must reconnect the HDMI cable. You must also have your phone connected to the same WiFi network at all times because it does not have dedicated Ethernet. If you leave no one else can change the tv input or start the light sync unless they have the app installed. As for the light change, it looks really cool and can really light up a room. But I find myself look at the 50 inch tv screen and I find I don’t really notice the lights as much as I thought I would. When the sync abruptly stops, which happens often, I don’t even notice. At this price I would avoid this. For what it lacks it is priced way to high.

Philips did it again bring your home theater to life with this smart device

The unit was working great for thebforst hour after i installed it. But then it started to loose sync wirh the app. The light would not move with the video. At timea they just hung at one color until i turned the unit off and back on. Which broight me to have to reconnect to it and even start the link up process all over again more than once. Very bas whem tou are trying to watch a program. I try it on an an Android phone and an IPhone with the same results. I went online and saw multiple blogs saying that Phillips made a change and after that the units started to react this way. I returned it. This cost to much money to have these kinda of issues. Not good Phillips.

Perfect for home theater very functional works as advertised

If you have a PS4 Pro, and want to watch 4K/HDR content, this will not work. It is extremely overpriced for something that just changes light colors and wasn't tested to work with high quality inputs.

so I bought this awhile back when it first came out. It was a good device when it was stable, but after a HUE update, it totally crashed my system to where I had to have it returned (took a few months going back and forth with Phillips support!) Once I finally got the replacement device, I noticed it would stay HOT to the touch. after a few months, the replacement device just would not power on. Contacted Phillips support again for this new issue, and they tell me they will not replace it, since they replaced the last one. So for a device that costs around 230, is now just a paper weight. I have had great luck with all of the other HUE lights, but the hardware definitely is flaky. I would not recommend this device unless you are willing to go through all of this hassle for a defective hardware device. And definately get an extended warranty if you plan on purchasing.

It is expensive but it is must-have if you want to sync your tv with your hue lights.

Overall using the lights alone with the Phillips Hue app works great but the sync box sucks. Soooo much troubleshooting with the set up when it shouldn't take long at all. I think the Phillips Hue Sync app doesn't work as well as it should. I've had to reset and restart the set up process multiple times and it will not work. I've also tried many troubleshooting tips I could find online because customer support was no help. Tread carefully. It might work for you but for the cost of the product, I would expect a smoother process. Ended up returning it.

Loved it at first... no problem. Everything worked automatically and it was seamless. Now... it doesn’t turn on and off automatically. So now I need a remote for the Apple TV, the tv remote, AND the app to make it all work. Tried checking for updates and I’ve checked the app and tv settings but I still can’t make it all work with just one remote.
