Fantastic product, just very difficult set up

I love what this product can do so much, but man does it just have the hardest setup. This took me nearly 4 hours to set up, honestly probably more. It is so hard to get the Sync Box to connect and be discovered. The easy set up does not exist, and I saw many people online say the same. Once it finally just clicked, it has been amazing! I can't watch a movie without it. With the price of this product, it's pretty insane how hard it is to use.

Love this except for one big thing: Does not support 4K/120 output from my XBOX Series X and I have to downgrade to 4K/60. Wish they would upgrade it to support HDMI 2.1. It's pretty pricey for something that's missing key features like that. That said, it works great with the Hue gradient strips on my new TV (though keep an eye out for those as the 75" version often sells out for months at a time). I've already gotten compliments from several people on my new setup. It does what it's supposed to do and I love it. I kinda wish the functionality was built into the main Hue app rather than a second app, but that's a minor gripe I can live with.

This product is difficult to review. I love this sync box, I use it every time we watch a movie or play games on the PS4. I would beware if you are trying to use it for everyday tv watching. It is possible, but the only way to activate the box is to connect it with your smartphone's free hue sync app. It can become cumbersome to do it every time you turn on your tv. Otherwise, it is great, definitely creates an immersive experience while watching movies and playing games. It only works for one room in your house and can connect up to 10 hue lights. If you want to do more than one room or more than one tv at a time, and you will need to purchase an additional sync box.

Expensive but awesome effects while watching movies. Some compatibility issues and they did not build the device with the future in mind, but after jumping through some hoops, the family likes it.

I'm going to be honest, I wasn't sure that this was actually going to work as advertised. This has smashed my expectations. The responsiveness and accuracy is beyond impressive. Set up was super easy. I was up and running in just a few minutes. Each setup is catered to your exact light position for perfect effect accuracy. I am beyond impressed. 9 out of 10 Stars. -1 * because it is a little bit pricey for what it is.

It does work, so if it appears you’re having issues getting it connected, just keep tinkering with it and it’ll eventually click. I have a JBL sound bar that has an input and output HDMI. I also have TV, blu Ray, etc. So, what I did, was to hook everything first into the Sync box, then take a cable from Sync Box HDMI out to sound bar’s HDMI in. Then, another cable from the sound bar HDMI out into the eARC input of my LG TV which is input 2). That way, it now syncs the video and I stop get the audio through my sound bar (Atmos). If you don’t have a sound bar to pass it through, still make sure you use the eARC input on your TV (if it has one), as that will likely prevent many issues that some folks have with getting everything to “click”. Now, one issue I have (which is not a deal breaker) is that when I switch the input on the actual Sync Box, my TV is clueless, and doesn’t realize it. Therefore, I’ve learned to just switch the input using my TV remote (LG TV) instead. That’s way works for my system, anyways, and May very well be necessary for anyone else. Once you get it working as it should, this device is AWESOME!! I mean, my neighbors actually WANT to come over and hang out now, and if you don’t do mushrooms, you still get the same effect as if you did (trust me.., you’ll see)! I also recommend looking on You Tube for the test videos for this product, as it really lets you see its boundaries (literally and figuratively). Lastly, it’s best with the Hue Gradient Light Strip and two light bars (lay the bars on their side across the bottom of the TV, to cover all 4 sides/borders of the screen with colorful lights.

If you have the lights this thing is awesome!!! It makes movie watching and even every day tv watching more immersive!!! Right now i have the hue play behind my TV. But when i get the 75" hue gradient lightstrip then my TV watching will be legit!! Only downside is this is an expensive hobby!!! The hue sync is $230 the hue plays are $120 for a set of 2 and the gradient light strip i want is $230!! Plus whatever other hue lights you already have or will buy!!

if you've got Philips Hue lights behind and near your TV and want to sync it all up, look no further than the Hue Play HDMI Sync Box. It will transform the way you watch TV. It intercepts your TV signal and matches your lights to what is being displayed on-screen, resulting in an experience that's more immersive than ever. It's expensive sure, and it can't be controlled by a remote, but it's worth the money to really elevate your home entertainment experience.

The Sync box works as advertised. It allows you to to plug 4 HDMI into the box. Xbox, Apple TV, ROKU, BluRay (Whatever you choose). The box switches to whatever system is sending a signal. You can control the intensity which is convenient. play Apple music through you TV and Home Pods have your lights sync you now have a nightclub in your living room. Great for the movie experience to really supports the picture quality of today 4k tv's. Video Games are vivid and the colors just make the graphics that muck sharper. Super simple to install. it comes with a steep price tag, but the Philip Hue Product line works similar to Apple. Just connects and works seamlessly.

The set up was relatively simple. Once I realized that if you had all of your devices going through the sync box you have to change the source within the app I decided to just sync my Firestick. But all of a sudden it would not work and when I contacted Philips they told me that the sync box and Firestick needs to be connected the same WiFi. I have a dual band router and it automatically switches devices depending on the signal. So my sync box and Firestick are not always connected to the 2.4ghz. It'll work sometimes if I completely reconnect the sync box to the bridge but it's very temperamental. Love the idea of this but it was poorly executed. Hopefully there will be a patch of some sort or workaround in the future.

This is a 5 star product. The only reason I am giving it 4 is for its price tag and also how it includes not the greatest hdmi cord. It is small and I also doesn’t support 4K 120hz. So I am having to buy a new one. Overall this is an awesome product and definitely a conversation starter with people over. I play lots of video games and this just adds to the immersion. You have to make sure that you have a nice set up of hue lights behind/next to the tv to make it worth it. The set up for this was extremely easy, don’t know why all the negative comments for set up. If you have the money, buy it. But if you invested in a hue household, this is a must.

If you have entertainment areas set up with your current Phillips Hue lights then this is an awesome addition to wow your audience. that being said, it's performance issues and lack of passthrough features are a concern for me. I constantly get black outs of the content I'm running through the box that take a second or two to resolve, pretty killer when trying to play a game, and I'm concerned that new consoles or devices down the line will be limited to the non HDMI 2.1 port on this device. Granted they just added support for Dolby Vision and HDR 10+ but it still can't pass through auto low latency or variable refresh rate features to my knowledge. Also quite expensive.

Hello, Let me tell you first that I am a techie. I tell you this because I want you to know that I know what I am writing. 1. Setting this thing up is easy. Download a separate app and follow along. But why can't Philips just integrate the Play app with the Hue light app, I do not know. This two app feature has one big disadvantage: if you have other Hue lights in the same room which you want to be Off and hence isn't connected to Play, then you have to go to the Hue app to turn those off AND then switch to Play app to turn on light sync. Integrating both in one app would easily take care of this since the "room" setup would have been known. It gets super annoying, trust me. 2. There is no USB or remote screen sharing/casting. If you want to view home movies or photos or anything from a USB device, you're out of luck. Neither can you cast your PC screen to Play. So, you have to connect USB to PC and PC to Play. Seems unnecessary. You can cast to your Chromecast and connect that to Play. But PCs don't cast to Chromecast. Chrome browser does, but Windows does not. 3. Dropped connection. The Play will stop working from time to time. Not many times, but more times than not. I'm just saying that you don't want your TV to go blank at the most critical point while watching Die Hard. Also, it takes time to come back online, a lot of time. 4. It blinks. It blinks all the time when in use. It is annoying because it distracts you from the TV watching experience which the Play exists to augment. But when it works, it works great. NO lag in color production/change and it very accurate. Would I buy it again? No. Not if they fix the issues or keep the price this high. Also, I returned it within a week.

Love this sync box. Worth every Penny. It is expensive but for the past year, I love creating an immersive gaming experience or even lighting while watching concerts. Maybe distracting for some movies, better for animated and cartoons. Recommend this along with hue gradient, hue bulbs if you have recess lights, hue go, maybe a light strip or two and I use 3 Hue Signe floor lamps. Investment but appeals to certain customers.

So I have a complicated set up: soundbar with it's own HDMI ports plus a Harmony remote system. It took me a while to get everything configured but once I did it worked pretty great. I already had entertainment areas set up from using Hue Sync with my computer so it was pretty easy getting things going. One issue that seems to have cropped up is with Netflix on both the Xbox One and PS4. Whenever I start them it automatically switches to HDR instead of just when HDR content is play. This didn't seem to be an issue prior but it is now. While I really like enjoy the light sync ability, the device does feel over priced.
