If you have a Home Theater or Soundbar, forget it.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have a home theater/receiver/soundbar in your setup, just forget about using the Philips box. It introduces a lip sync issues, sync issues with the lights, it's a distracting disaster. On top of that, you lose access to built in TV apps, and the lights do not sync with Dolby Vision content (which is just about everything being released now). No way this product was ready for prime time. And at the price point, does not warrant waiting for Philips to sort out these issues.

Posted .Hi there, Smart TV apps run directly on the TV. The content will need to pass through the Sync Box so it can analyze the content and send the right commands to your lights. You should still have access to the apps, but you won't be able to sync your lights if you use them.
Please reach out to us on Facebook http://m.me/HuePhilips or Twitter https://twitter.com/tweethue if the Sync Box really does cause you to lose access to your apps, or if you have any other questions. We're always happy to assist!

Fails on AppleTv and Shield with 4k
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not buy this if you have a 4K TV with dolby vision (eg, LG) and use Apple TV or Nvidia shield. Constantly disconnects and you have to reboot the device.

Wi-Fi Connection Problems
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I could not connect this device to my Wi-Fi. Although the connection procedure was relatively simple, it followed the same outline as my Nest cameras; this device would not connect. I called technical support, and they opened a ticket number (Ticket: 1056664). However, they never got back to me. I called technical support a second time, and they asked me what TV model I was using. To my way of thinking, the model of the TV that I’m using has nothing to do with the Wi-Fi connection. I am very disappointed in a product that appears to lack testing in the field and cost $250.

Not a complete product after 4 years
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have 4 ambient lights and the bridge, but only 1 light works.... Waste of money for something that is all supposed to work interactively.

Not as great as I thought it would be
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wasn't really plug and play. Struggled to get it working consistently and when I finally did the whole experience of lights changing whilst watching TV actually wasn't quite as cool as I thought it would be. Gave me a migraine more than anything else.

Random black screen
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works great until it dosen't. Im having alot of issues with random black screens only when using the sync box. Sometimes the picture comes back on its own and sometimes I have to power cycle the TV to get it back 50/50. The box seems to somehow interfere with the HDMI sync to the TV. If it was only say once durning a movie it would be tolerable but once it starts its about every 5-7 minutes before the next black screen. For me at this time its for the most part unusable. From what I've read its not a uncommon issue....waiting for the next softwate update from Phillips on this hopefully one day the will figure the issue out and make this $200 black screen box worth the money I paid.

Stuck with a sync box I can’t use thanks to BB
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not buy if you have a Bose 700 soundbar!! I spent a couple of hundred of dollars on new fiber optical cable and several HDMI cables at the advice of Best Buy rep at the store to resolve my source error issue. Now I can’t even return this unit because I’ve passed the 15 day window. I would have return it sooner, but listened to the rep and tried changing my cables. Basically after $200 in unnecessary cables, I still have a source error with my soundbar and I can’t return the hue sync box.

Not Wireless!!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited about connecting the sync and adding lights as well. The bridge is required and is not wireless. It needs to be plugged into the router that is close enough to bluetooth to the lights. I spend $60 on Goove leds and they work great.

Great concept, poor execution
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When it works, it’s a lot of fun to control lights. However, it hardly ever powers on correctly, it quite often just turns itself off, it hardly ever syncs with my phone. Many improvements are needed on a great idea.

Posted .Hi there, thanks for your review. Have you checked that the cables are connected properly in case this is causing the power issues? And in terms of the issue with your phone, do you mean that what you select in the app is not reflected by the sync box? For example switching inputs? Please let us know via Facebook (Facebook.com/huephilips) or Twitter (Twitter.com/tweethue) the answer to these questions. We'd love to get to the bottom of this so you can continue to enjoy your sync box!

Pass on this old tech
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a dated product that should just be put out to pasture. Mine shuts off randomly or will cause issues concerning HDCP issues. Syncing lights are neat, but frustrating whenever your movie/show/game shut off at random intervals

Ok with Issues.
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works well with most things BESIDES Apple TV 4K on Dolby Vision and LG. I have tried all combination of settings/cables, etc with no luck. Their customer support is subpar at "best".

Waste of money
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Swing and a very expensive miss from Hue. Works about 25% of the time. Spends the rest of the time losing and searching for connection. I'll be returning.

Frustrating Set-up
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love hue products and own most of them. The Hue Play Sync is terrible. The entire setup process was frustrating. First, it took several attempts to connect to Bluetooth, it keep having trouble finding my entertainment area and it never would sync colors well to what was playing on TV. Even though I had brightness set all the way up, the lights were very dim. Some lights just turned off. Normally, Hue products are seamless. This is not at all. After 45 minutes of trying to get this item to work, I boxed it back up.

$500 Garbage
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Phillips Hue is the worst immersion lighting system ever made. Customer service is useless. They help 0. The lights will not sync to anything. You need to purchase three separate pieces of equipment in order for one light strip behind your tv to work. It was 4-5 hours of setup time trying to reset and pair and wash/rinse/repeat the whole process. It was miserable. Im stuck with this garbage.

Too little too late for too much
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited to see this release as I have been using Hue products from the early days. But unfortunately this product really isn’t that good and costs way too much. During video games, even something like RDR2 it basically just occasionally flashes distractingly. During TV and movies it is often confused by dark portions on the screen like a guy in a dark suit, causing some or all lights to go dark. Not only do I think this risks shortening the life of the lights by constantly switching them. But it also acts more of a distraction than a compliment to the experience.

Posted .Hi there, thanks for your feedback. We'd like to see if we can help you out with enjoying your new Sync Box a little more.
Have you tried changing the intensity levels used during syncing? This should change the way in which your lights react to the game. You can also adjust the overall brightness level, which could help with more obvious reactions in the lights.
Speaking of brightness, you can also choose to set a minimum brightness level, so that during dark scenes your lights won't turn completely dark. Find this in the Settings > Advanced sync settings > Background lighting.

Making smart tvs dumb
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love the idea, but completely useless if you have a Samsung tv with One Connect.....it limits all smart tv capabilities because it is basically another One Connect plugged into your tv's One Connect. In other words your tv won't know what input device you are using anymore, and just introduces more steps to switch between everything. Would make way more sense to develop this functionality into an app for a smart tv/Xbox/etc like they have for PCs, but then they wouldn't be able to charge a crazy amount for it like they do with this device.

Not a fit for me
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Could not get it to work with my Vizio M Series zero. Had it running through the eArc on my surround and then to tv eArc as recommended. Lighting effects would not even turn on after the first time. First time was flawless. Not sure if it was surround system or Phillips.
