    High hopes, high disappointment.

So, I had high hopes for this but had to settle on disappointment. I’ve had issues trying to get this to run on a soundbar setup. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, but it shouldn’t be that hard to figure out. I have a smart TV, soundbar, Tivo, AppleTV and DVD player. I tried to set everything up with just the Tivo as my video source. I looked up the recommended settings but had not luck with any of them and getting the setup the way it should be, in my opinion. I tried: Sources > Sync box > Receiver/soundbar > TV. The issue with this setup is that TV apps do not sync with the lights. The other issue I wasn’t able to work through was the CEC/ARC didn’t seem to work and so when I turned off the TV, the soundbar wouldn’t and thus still played sound. In all my experimenting, I eventually got to the point where I couldn’t even change the volume. The next option I tried was: Sources > Sync box > TV > Receiver/soundbar. In this setup the sound would not push through to the soundbar. Only the TV speakers, which of course is sad audio. With basic setup issues, I never got around to adding the AppleTV and DVD so I’m not sure how well/effective the auto video detection works. The light syncing did seem to work without issues and looked impressive. Too bad I couldn’t get the sound to work out correctly and get the whole experience. I’m sure there’s something in the setup but with no response from customer support, I don’t know how/when I’ll get to a fully functioning system.

Hi there, thanks for your review. We are sorry to hear that you have been disappointed by the Hue Sync box. TV apps can't sync via the Hue Sync box. Content needs to pass from a HDMI device through the Hue Sync box to the TV to sync the lights. Can you give one of these setups a try? Some more clarification around installation topology:
      1) Sources > Sync Box > Receiver/Soundbar? > TV. (Arc bypass needs to be disabled) (Music mode always works)
      2) Sources > Receiver/Soundbar? > Sync Box > TV. (Arc bypass needs to be enabled) (Music mode might not work*) (Probably how most people will install)
      3) Sources > Sync Box > TV > Receiver/Soundbar? (Arc bypass needs to be disabled) (Music mode always works)
*Music mode may not work with setup #2 as by default most receivers withhold the audio data and so no audio passes through to Sync Box to analyze. The solution is to configure the receiver to output audio to both the receiver's speakers plus the TV, but not all receivers support this setting. In that case, the user must install Sync Box as either #1 or #3 for Music Mode to work.

If this doesn't help we can always look into it if you contact us on Facebook (http://m.me/HuePhilips) or Twitter (https://twitter.com/tweethue) This is where we offer 24/7 support.

Works well so so far. The one thing that does disappoint is only being able to control 10 lights

Works great! A little cumbersome whit the initial setup but once it was done works flawlessly. I’m also using this in conjunction with Logitech Harmony Elite remotes in over 4 rooms. REMEMBER you can only use one Play Box per HUB.

    Great when it works

I have two of these, all the lights; spent a lot of money. - amazing when it works - no customer service in sight if you have an issue. One of mine will not re-sync with the app after it was unplugged. The app tells me to confirm connection by pressing the button on the front - never ever connects. I've reset the bridge, reset the sync box, deleted the app, restarted, changed networks. nothing works - so after reading all of philips solutions on twitter, insta, tech sights i figured i'll just call.... nope - only Monday -Friday during work hours can you maybe get some help. They are amazing when they work - you'll tell all your friends - but if you have a tech issue - you'll have an expensive little black box with no one to help. My other one works fine - never an issue

    Worst product from Hue

I own several hue products throughout my home and they are all reliable which is expected given their price tag. But this is the worst product from Hue that I regret purchasing. This product is not production ready at all and they shouldn’t have released it to consumer market. It stops syncing for every small reason all the time (TV software update, whenever power outage happens etc) and connecting it back takes hours of time depending on your luck after several tries and resets. So far it took a major amount of time in life getting it to work constantly. Don’t even get me started on it requiring Apple TV or game console for its operation. Yes it looks good when it works but is it worth it, considering that it’s not stable? Definitely no. Plz don’t fall for those colorful marketing images.

    Do not buy

For $220 you’d think this product would work. Installation is fine through the point where the app connects to the bridge and asks you to press the button. Then the app says something is wrong and that’s it. Reading around it seems this is a common problem with this box and it simply can’t connect and if it does it cannot stay connected. It goes without saying this is going back.

It’s an expensive gimmick. Looks cool when it works, but it stopped working before I even had it for a full year. A replacement was not available so I got a refund.

I have patience for new product flaws but based on the cost of this I expect everything to be worked out. I have had nothing but intermittent problems with the synchronization of this product and have yet to get it to work consistently. It's amazing when it does work but has more issues than I can count that no where near justify it's outrageous cost.

Garbage, Wait for a revision before buying.

Requires its own app, which can lock your lights out from the main app. Missing Features that the PC version. Major disappointment, I picked up the Hue's system to play with the sync. It worked decently enough through a computer. Was super excited at the ideal of a set top box to make other devices plug in play. Yet this is a failure for the money. And did I mention that it requires its own app instead of being part of the main Hue's app?

Thanks for taking the time to leave your review, it's a shame to hear you've been disappointed by the Hue Sync Box though. The Sync Box has it's own app for set up and control, because this is the best way to make it as easy, and quick, as possible for all users.
If you ever need help getting the most out of your Sync Box, whether you're having trouble with it, or would just like some tips and tricks, you can contact Hue Support 24/7 via Facebook (http://m.me/HuePhilips) or Twitter (https://twitter.com/tweethue).
