Philips Hue is prob one of the best RGB lights out there but the first thing I don’t like about it is how expensive it is. I got the philips hue white and color ambient strip, and man the way the light project is perfectly soft and balance. the quality of the strip alone is well made, flexible easy to use it’s perfect for accent lighting but this particular light will be on my lower wall corner in my gaming space. it add extra vibrancy around the room perfectly defused color. the hue app is where you’ll be spending most of your time and it’s an amazing app and easy to use. Hue App: I think philips hue app is one of the best one i’ve use so far philips kept the app clean with less unnecessary clutter. most used setting are all right at the bottom. an ability to turn your lights on and off through the app, and change or apply different scenes. and when it comes to different color scenes philips hues amazing list of themes looks fantastic, even the art around the theme are all well done high quality work. about things I dislike is how you would need to have the hub just to be able to take advantage of Alexa. just using bluetooth alone my alexa app could not detect these light strips and what a major disappointment. the lights alone are not cheap but requiring the hub is what’s hard to invest with philips but. other company is able to do a simple task like these without a hub. I feel like philips don’t really care and doubt they will ever change. conclusion overall I think philips hue definitely show that you have a quality product but the product is very restricted. it’s also great to see inside the app that show you which 3rd party app that philips hue also support and i’ve never seen one like it. i am enjoying how pretty and bright the RGB lights when it’s being used but im not a fan of not being able to program the light strip without its hub, now im force to open the app just to use these lights and its a bummer.

    A DeLIGHTful Lightstrip

The Philips - Hue Solo Lightstrip 10m is a deLIGHTful LED lightstrip. The Hue Solo Lightstrip series currently comes in 3 lengths (3m, 5m and 10m) and the 10m enables increased areas of application. I would recommend identifying the area you wish to illuminate prior to purchase and then determine if 5m or 10m is needed for you. If the 10m is needed (or greater than 5m) this is a delight and as most LED lightstrips have available there are designated areas available every foot or so to cut the light strip to avoid unwanted excess. The lightstrips are equipped with pre-applied adhesive, making the first application out of the box a sinch. The adhesive is not the whole backside, making application a bit easier than pulling off a long strip and hoping you do not get it stuck where you do not want them. The lights themselves are quick and easy to set up after being plugged in, interfacing within the Philips hue app. Through the app intensity and color of the light is easily controlled along with a couple presets. Philips describes these capabilities as RGBWW, which appears to enhance the vibrance/clarity of the white. I have had previous LED lightstrips where the white looks odd if directly looking at the strip (which yes, probably should not do anything) but these are clear. The RGB appear to be of the higher quality in that purple, yellow and orange appear nicely. Lower quality lights lose vibrance accuracy for these colors. The 1700 lumens provides a great ambiance and the colors display well. Otherwise these are able to connect into the Hue Bridge, which allows for control beyond Bluetooth, not a requirement. Also, as typical for a Hue device these are able to interface with Alexa and Google smart home set up. A keyword about these lights is in their title, solo. This translates into the LED strip is NOT extendible. Selecting the 10m length will likely cover most desired areas; however, this could be an important factor to keep in mind prior to purchase. Philips has made great strides with in home LED lighting over the last few years with the Hue product line and overall this LED lightstrip lives up to the Philips Hue name.

Very easy to set up via the Philips Hue app, with physical installation also as easy with the adhesive backing. They say there are more features that can be added if you also have a Philips Hue Bridge, but I do not have one and I am quite satisfied with all the different settings and options I already have. The long 33-foot length is perfect for an entertainment area, which is where I have installed ours, around our television and sound system setup. It now looks like an uber-cool modern theater. The lightstrip is very strudy and durable; we had no problems twisting and turning it into the spaces we wanted to cover. And the color possibilities and choices--it is virtually endless! You can adjust the brightness to a maximum that is very bright and brilliant, or dim it to a nice soft level for a perfect ambience. Again, the possibilities are endless. You can go from a clean bright white, to every color of the rainbow, with every shade of every color and everything in-between. I cannot express how infinite the choices are. Within the app you can also set up routines and timers, and my favorite--special effects such as "candle", "fireplace", and "prism". It is just as they sound--the candle effect makes the lights flicker like candles; the fireplace effect mimics a fireplace, and the prism effect changes the colors like a prism. There is also a scene gallery where there are tons of choices and themes with sub-themes such as "cozy" (warm embrace, dreamy dusk, etc.), "party vibes" (Rio, Cancun, Chinatown, Motown, etc.), "romantic" (sunset allure, ruby romance, etc.), "serenity" (starlight, galaxy, moonlight, arctic aurora, etc.), "dreamy" (still waters, majestic morning, adrift, blue lagoon, etc.)...and that's just a partial list! Oh, and you can also set this lightstrip up to use with Alexa or Google Home if you wish, but it certainly is not mandatory. I have tried cheap no-name brands of lightstrips in the past and the saying holds true, you get what you pay for. This lightstrip is from a trusted brand and one that has an established reputation for good smarthome lighting. I am definitely looking into buying more sets!

    High quality, reliable light strip

I have been using Hue lights for over five years, so I am familiar with the system and love it! When used with the hub, the lights are consistently reliable, which cannot be said for some of the cheaper brands. This new light strip could not have been simpler to set up. I plugged it in, opened the app, told it I wanted to add a new light, and it found the light strip. I was then able to drag the new light into the room it is in. It took all of 30 seconds to setup. My voice assistant automatically recognized it and allowed me to start changing colors and brightness without doing any additional configuration. The Hue app not only allows easy setup, but also gives the ability to setup easy automations based on time and location. I love the feature allowing gradual dimming and brightening for going to sleep and waking up. The strip is really bright, has the ability to dim, and of course creates a massive amount of colors, including many shades of white. Additionally, the strip is cool to touch even when on for hours, so there is no need to worry about accidentally hitting it and being burned. There is adhesive running the length of the strip so it can be installed on many surfaces. I would just be careful that placement is 100% correct before using the adhesive since it will not be easy to move the strip after it is glued to a surface. No matter the time of day or mood, the light strip can match a person’s needs. Personally, I like to use it for ambient lighting both for aesthetics and functionality. When paired with home automation software, I can flash the strip in various colors to alert me to random things. The only thing I wish I could change is having the ability to show multiple colors at the same time. Obviously, the strip can create just about any color, but only one at a time. I would definitely recommend this to friends, especially ones who already use the Hue system.

    Hue Lights Without the Bridge!

I love Hue branded lighting accessories. I have them all over the house. This newest light strip is great because it can work without a Hue Bridge, making it a great option for those who are not looking for whole-home integration. You can use this single light strip all by itself. Setup is as effortless as possible. I plugged the strip in, opened the Hue app on my phone, selected Add Lights, and they were found and installed in about a minute. This same process should work whether you have a Hue Bridge or using Bluetooth. The strip is 33ft long and is backed with adhesive tape for installation. This is probably more than enough length for most people and you can cut the strip every 13” where there is a scissor-mark to get the perfect length for your particular installation. Make sure to cut exactly in that spot. This is the longest Hue Solo LIghtstrip offered so if you only need half of it or so be sure to pick up the 16-foot version instead to reduce waste. The color can be changed to any that you desire, and the brightness can be dimmed as well. Without a Hue Bridge, you can control the lights with the Hue app, Amazon Alexa, or Google Assistant. You can also buy accessories like a wireless wall switch. However, if you add a Hue Bridge, which connects to your router, you’ll gain the ability to also control with Apple Home and Siri, opening new capabilities such as controlling the lights from anywhere and the ability to create scenes or automations. Pros: - No Hub Needed - 33ft of Light - Supports Alexa, Google Home, Siri (Siri w/ Bridge) - Bluetooth alone works with dimmer switch accessories - Effortless Setup with Hue App - Comes in 3m, 5m and 10m lengths. - 2-year warranty Cons: - Not extendable Overall – these are as excellent as the other Hue products I have used in the past with the added bonus of not needing a Hue Bridge.

Great addition to my workout room!

This is my first Phillips Hue product. I was looking to add some ambiance to my workout room and this has been a fantastic solution. Installation is super easy and also quite flexible when it comes to the shape and size of the room. Although the strip is over 32 feet long, you can cut the strip to the desired length but just note that you cannot reattach the cut sections. The strip itself is moldable to fit into a 90 degree corner easily so I was able to surround the base of my workout room. The power cord is also quite long and makes it convenient to have the lights just where you want them without having to have the (very small) base close to an outlet. I have the strip stuck on the side of a wall and it seems to hold fine but I’m not sure the adhesive is sticky enough to hold over time mounted underneath a cabinet. The power to control this via home automation made it super easy to hook it up in my Google home setup. I love the versatility of the color selection from white to basically any color you want and the lights also get quite bright. The lighting effects are also fantastic in my application in a workout room where it can add some liveliness to my workouts. I wish it was a solid light though for the entire strip vs multiple, individual LEDs but this is basically the same as most light strips. So if you’re looking more for ambiance you may want to try to hide them behind something so they glow from behind. If they are out in the open, there are gaps in between each light so it’s not truly continuous.

The sling strip is an excellent addition to my Phillips Hue family of lights. The strip is easy enough to set up. It can be placed the many places. Chose to set it up Along the border of my family room TV front wall To highlight that area. Adhesive strip easy enough to work and fix. And so far the adhesive works great and is very sticky. It’s a simple plug-in to the Hue Module and power supply. From there, it’s a simple set up to connect to my existing Phillips Hue Bridge. Once it’s recognized, you’re off having fun with all the color lights. This thing can do. The colors This device can display is amazing. There’s so much flexibility and things you can do within the Hue app To control The Lights. From setting up, scheduled lighting routines,, to different times of days to different themes and colors In coordinating with different holidays, the possibilities are endless. Also connecting to Alexa or any other home smart automation is it great added bonus too. It’s a pleasure to have this piece of technology. Highly recommend it.

Simple lighting for the kids room

My very young kids were enamored when I finished putting this lightstrip around the top of their room. It's pretty easy to connect and use with the Hue app and can even be controlled with Alexa with a little more setup. Overall, the length was almost perfect for their room and the light goes from really dim for bedtime to something equivalent to the sun beaming straight down on us. Installation IS simple, but it's not quick. It was a time consuming process to say the least. I wiped down the upper wall where I was installing it and got ready to stick the strip up there. The strip has a peal-able backing that exposes the sticky side, but it comes in about 6 inch segments. At first I figured it was in case you felt like cutting the strip at a certain point, but if you're doing that you're just going to cut the backing too. So I have no idea why it's segmented in such small strips. It makes getting a finger nail under the backing and pealing off each segment an incredibly time consuming process when I could have just pealed off a few feet at a time to make sure the sticky part wasn't fully exposed the whole time I was hanging it. Again, it's not a difficult task, but boy was it annoying to peal off what felt like 150 of these things by time I was done. Final downside of installation was the power cord. For sticking these just under your ceiling, the power cord was just too short. I needed to use an extension cord to plug them in. Not the end of the world in either case, just two minor inconveniences you may have to deal with when installing this yourself. Setup was initially very easy. Downloaded the Hue app. Had to make an account, which is always annoying. Selected the option to setup a new device and told it I didn't have a hub. It took a second to search and then it was all set for use with the app. I also wanted to connect it to Alexa which was mostly easy but some ill timed words from my daughter and an Alexa that was just too quiet at the time caused me to not hear what she said after I tried to scan for devices. After much more fiddling, I finally found I needed to use my wife's Alexa app (since this Alexa device was registered under her account) and I was finally able to see a new lightstrip device. This made it really easy to add to our Alexa bedtime routines and control the brightness and color without breaking out my phone. Usage is pretty good. It's not a fully addressable strip or anything so you don't get all the bells and whistles of being able to have the lights chase or run in specific patterns. The Hue app includes a handful of preset effects to try out and then a bunch of "scenes" you can try. The effects are things like candle flickers and rainbow cycles and stuff. Nothing too crazy, we've been mostly sticking to single colors and changing the brightness which works great via the Hue app or Alexa. So all in all, I'm really happy with how they turned out. The lights circling the room look really nice. The kids like them. They integrated really well with the Alexa routines we already had by just changing the light device to the light strip. They didn't need the extra hub to work. They might feel a little pricey compared to alternative light strips, but I can attest that I like the quality I got here and if this one fits your budget, give it a look.

    Light Up Your Living Spaces

If a technology device has lights, I'm immediately interested. Since I already have a Philips outdoor lightstrip (which is really cool) I, of course, was super excited to get this Hue Solo (indoor) Lightstrip, as well. Initial setup proved to be a bit tricky, at first. But after several tries, I got it done. I opted to use and connect to this lightstrip via Bluetooth only, as I didn't want to have the added expense of having to buy a Philips Hue Bridge. For my needs, the simple features available in the Philips Hue app, are good enough. If I change my mind and want to unlock more options, that is always available to me; for an additional purchase. The Philips Hue app allows you to choose from many different themes in the Hue scene gallery, and save your favorites. There's also the option to set up a 'routine' to use light for waking up or going to sleep. I'm well familiar with this as I have many different types of light devices that do similar things. While in use, the lightstrip does get very slightly warm-ish, and there is a particular "plasticky" smell to it, which was especially noticable when I first began using the Hue lightstrip right out of the box. I will say that the sticky strips aren't as good as I'd hoped for what they're meant to do. I'm not sure, over time, how well they will be able to hold the lightstrip in place. But I guess we'll see. If you do intend to cut the lightstrip so as to 'change direction at a corner,' for instance, you will need to use special connectors. None of which were included with this lightstrip. Overall, this Philips Hue Solo Lightstrip is a fun, and relatively simple, way to add decorative light to your living spaces. Be that, a gamer setup, mood lighting in a bedroom or living room area, around bookshelves in a home office, along the underside of a platform bed, or even add a lit pathway along the baseboards of a hallway ... there are many many more creative possibilities.
