This Philips Hue LIghtstrip works as it should. It gives a variety of lighting choices to add light and ambiance to a room. The white is bright and the colors are vibrant. The power cord is long enough since my outlets, as with most homes that I know of, are located in the center of the walls. I like that the connection block to the cord has tape to mount it to the wall so it doesn't dangle and pull on the cord. It works with Google Home and Alexa and it also works in the Philips Hue app if you have a Hue bridge to use with it. I have a bridge that I no longer use, but may connect it back up in the future to use with this strip for more control options. For now I have connected it to Google Home where I have most of my smart home devices connected. The instructions are minimal and going to the Philips Hue website doesn't give any more instruction than what is included on the small fold up instruction sheet in the box. There is a QR code on the box for connection to Alexa but it doesn't use the code reader I have on my phone. It does give a link to download a compatible QR code reader which I decided not to do for now. Connecting to Google Home was easy after figuring out which option I needed to use to connect (Google Nest or partner device). It was found quickly, connected quickly and, once I decided on a name for it, works with voice control perfectly. The one thing that concerns me with this strip is the amount of heat it generated in a very short time of being on. I'll stick to running it only during times when I can keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get too hot and make certain that nothing is touching it. I don't know that it will get hot enough to cause a problem, but I feel better monitoring it closely for now.

I appreciate that Phillips is such a household name and that they have not abandoned the Hue ecosystem even though it’s been around now for more than a decade. As someone who owns Hue bulbs, multiple bridges and at least one hue connected connected display set up I appreciate their continuing to expand into light strips like this one. Well, this flight trip costs a little bit more than some of the similar ones that could be had from Nanoleaf or others, the integration is worth the extra spend for me. Phillips build quality, as always top-notch, even if sometimes there are technology hiccups, like having to take multiple, tries to get the light strip paired, which was the case here. As per usual, their app works very well and once you get the strip paired, it is fully controllable. The box includes everything you need to get the strip, mounted in place securely where you would like it and to power it. Nothing else is needed Also, as I have come to expect from Hue products, the first thing it wants to do after getting set up is to update the firmware. I recommend this light strip as a great addition to an existing set up like mine.

Added these for some ambient lighting in my TV room. The good think with these is you can easily hide these almost anywhere if you don't want them visible. They do come in a variety of lengths but be aware, you can shorten them but you can't extend them so I would recommend getting them longer than you need and cutting them down. Follow the instructions it's easy. I didn't have to cut but it looks simple. Installation was simple, just peel off the the backing and expose the sticky tape and attach to a clean surface. They are pretty flexible and I was able to complete and oval layout without issue. Now for the cool stuff! You can control the color from the app and literally pick any color you want. There are a ton of pre-set colors but you can adjust to your liking. Even better, they can be controlled through your home automation like Alexa, or Google Assistant. You can dim or brighten them to match activity. Watching a movie with just a bit of ambient light has worked so much better than an almost completely dark room. This has been a great update to my media room and I will probably be adding more in other rooms.

I placed this lightstrip along the bed, and it provides a fantastic amount of light for watching latenight tv or winding down for the night. Great also for turning on at night so you don't step on a pet when you need to do a midnight potty run. Would also work great for a gaming room or entertainment room. Super simple to set up, and the sticky tape is fairly good. My Homekit found the light easily, and it's easy to operate via Siri. Make sure you have a long surface for it, because it's 15ish feet long! I've had great success with Hue in the past, and this is no exception. It's easy to set up, doesn't "forget" settings, and has a pretty good lifespan. I am looking into getting a few more for some other areas of the house, as it's super easy to use to add a little extra "oomf" to home decor. Not sure how long the adhesive will remain sticky though. It feels like it got a good grip, but these things often start to peel after a few months. Time will tell. Again, highly recommend.

    Top Notch cutting Edge Hardware

The hue lights are remarkable, with a superior design and excellent features. One of the advantages of the hue lights is that the strip can be cut, allowing you to place the lights all over your house or in different sized locations. I also recommend getting a hue bridge before installing most Philips smart home devices, which I will explain at the end of this message. In conjunction with the bridge and motion detector, the app can program the lights to turn on and off at specific intervals, changing their color to match the season or holiday. This way, when your guests arrive at your home, they will be greeted by an even more visually stunning sight, regardless of the decorations you have put up. They can be installed on staircases to illuminate not just a single spot, but also a continuous strip that runs up and down the stairs, transforming your regular home into a spectacular one. You can use the curved strip to soften the effect of sharp edges, such those on TV flat screens, and it can also serve as a light to enhance your current lighting or behind objects on empty walls for contrasts and moods. One major perk is that all these different kinds of devices can work together on a bridge. This means that you can control your hue products more effectively than the hue app itself, and you can even make your entire house smart by having lights turn on when you enter certain rooms just by speaking to it with current popular smart home interface units. Both the independent smart devices and the hue app were at fault. My Android device was unable to identify the lights after installing the Hue app. The next thing I knew, I was instructed to reload the program, and all of the smart home gadgets disappeared. I didn't find any solution, but that was really my fault because I misplaced the magical QR code card that came with another hue product and The customer service provided was uncooperative and displayed a lack of concern. How can we rectify this situation? The hue lights' app was functional for the lights, and the hardware is top-notch, so I gave them a good review. However, I did find it frustrating that Phillips does not have an app for PCs, and I still think their products are top-notch.

This is the second iteration of Philips light strips that I have used in our home. The first were from a while back and more geared to the RGB computerscape vibe. However, the Philips Hue Solo Lightstrip 10mm White and Color Ambiance is appropriate for the whole house. I outlined my in-home office, and I absolutely love this vibe. I would argue that the color tones, light diffusion, and luminosity output of the Hue Solo lights are having a positive effect on my productivity. If you are looking to add a splash of color to the ambiance in your environment, Philips Hue Solo will deliver. Let us start with the only hiccup I encountered, which I will turn into a helpful tip. The light strip is a breeze to install. You can shape and cut it to fit over and under cabinets, furniture, along stairs, or anywhere your creativity leads you. Its bendable and cuttable design (see instructions, I did not cut mine) means you can customize it to your specific needs without any trouble. The tip for installation comes with respect to the adhesion. The adhesive backing provided works well on smooth and flat surfaces, but for textured or uneven areas, I recommend double-sided tape for a more secure and lasting attachment. Once you have set up the Philips Hue Solo Lightstrip, you will be amazed at how it can instantly set the mood. With Bluetooth, you can easily control up to 10 lights in one room using the app or an external app like Alexa. Overall, the Philips Hue Solo 10mm White and Color Ambiance is a fantastic addition to any home. Its brilliant lighting, easy control, flexibility, and reliable performance make it a top choice for transforming your space. Just remember to grab some double-sided tape for a more secure installation and get ready for a stunning lighting experience.

Review for Philips - Hue Solo Lightstrip 10m (33ft) - White and Color Ambiance I’ve been looking to update the lighting in our living room, both for everyday and for the holidays. The Philips Hue Solo Lightstrip is very flexible in its many options for setting the mood with lighting. I like that it can be trimmed to the right size (in about 13” segments) without any special tools other than a scissors. Plugging in the lights immediately gives you a very pleasing, bright warmish light. But of course, these are both white and colored LEDs, so to really enjoy their flexibility, it’s important to download the Philips Hue app. This allows you to turn the lights on and off, set their brightness, choose from a range of white light - warm to cool - and best of all, choose from a palette of colors. Other features of the app let you set up wake, sleep, and timer functions. The wake timer allows for a simulated sunrise - a wonderful way to wake up, especially here in the northeast part of the US, where the short days of winter can make it difficult to get out of bed! In the same way, sleep settings let you set a fixed time for your lights to come on or you can do it manually. Both wake and sleep functions let you set the length of fade-in/fade-out time to 10, 20, or 30 minutes. There is also a palette of colors with great names like “sleepy,” “read,” and “concentrate,” or a color wheel setting makes it’s easy to choose your custom color quickly. You can also dim the lights from 100% to 0%. I found it easy to install the light strip around a window wall using the peel and stick backing on the light strip and the small junction box, which eases any cord tension on the light strip.

    Seamless Setup and Brilliant Lighting

Overall, the Philips Hue Solo Lightstrip 10m impresses with its seamless integration and versatile functionality. One of the standout aspects is its simple setup, which can be done effortlessly through the app. I am a longtime Hue user and opted to integrate it with my existing Hue Bridge to utilize the automation features (though the hub is not necessary due to this lightstrip's bluetooth integration), and the onboarding process was remarkably straightforward. The generous 33' length of the light strip is a major plus, offering ample coverage for various applications. Additionally, the easy-to-use cut marks allow for shortening the length if desired. With a maximum brightness of 1700 lumens, the light strip is very bright and provides ample illumination, making it suitable for powerful accent lighting. The built-in sticky adhesive backing is very strong, enabling the light strip to adhere securely to different surfaces for an extended duration -- even upside-down or at 90-degree angles around corners. The Philips Hue app is another strong point with its intuitive and user-friendly interface. Adjusting the color (anything from bright white to any color in the rainbow) and brightness levels is a breeze, thanks to the easy controls. In conclusion, with its ease of setup, customizable length, and intuitive app controls, this Philips Hue Solo smart light strip is excellent choice for anyone looking to easily enhance their home lighting setup.

As soon as I plugged these lights in, I was wowed by how bring they are. The Philips hue strip light is so very much brighter than anything else I have tried from Amazon. They are also dimmable, so you can have any ambiance to enjoy. They feel like premium strip lights with the silicone sleeve that covers the lights. Maybe that silicone cover could be frosted so it would be easier to look at, as it is now, you have to hide it somewhere. Setup was seamless. Plug in the huge 80's inspired power brick and download the hue app if you don't have it already. The app found the lights immediately and then you can simply ask alexa (if you want) to discover new devices. I like the fact I didn't have to link another account to her for them to work. So far she has controlled all aspects of the light. On & off, brightness level, set any color you can think of. The app is pretty basic, I was hoping to have multiple colors change at a time or have different effects. (spoiled with twinkly) the closest I found is it has one option to cycle thru the colors. I was excited to see an option to sync to your TV but nothing would happen. After researching online, you simply need to purchase a $250 sync box. Yeah, no thank you! This lightstrip is cuttable but keep in mind Philips offers no options to extend or reattach the strip in a different direction. Once it's cut, that's it. Only great if you want a long straight line. Also they only have double sided tape to install, no clips or brackets. Although it is nice and bright, I feel the price is too high for such a basic lightstrip without many options. If you have more hue products this would be a good addition.

Great Way To Add Some Light

This is my first light strip and now I see why they are so popular. For the size it throws a lot of light into any space you set it up in. It's great for adding task lighting to a space where a lamp either will not fit or would ruin the space. Add in the fact you can change the colors to either match the space or mood and you are all set. Setting up and pairing with the app is easy and a lot better than the old way of using Phillips Hue smart lights when you had to first set up the base station, pair that to your phone, then use the lights. Now is a lot easier to use. There are a few draw backs however. The main problem is make sure you know where you are going to set up the light strip. Once set up you have to jump through a lot of hoops to move it. You'll have to acquire some new adhesive tape which is not as easy as it sounds. The other thing is it would benefit from an attachable light diffuser to soften the light these LEDs throw out. Seriously this light strip gets brighter than you would think. This is a great way to light a space in any room.

I've got some mixed feelings about this Philips Hues light strip. On the plus side, it's really well made. The strip feels sturdy, and the colors are incredibly bright and vibrant. It definitely makes a big difference in the look of my room. But there are a few downsides that bug me. First off, it has to be plugged into a regular electrical outlet. Unlike other brands that use USB, this one isn’t as flexible, and finding a spot near an outlet was a bit of a hassle. Also, to get all the cool features, you need to buy their proprietary hub. Without it, you can't fully control the colors or connect it to other smart home devices, which was a letdown, especially since it's already pricey. Speaking of price, it's quite a bit more expensive than other light strips. I thought for the higher cost, it would come with more features right out of the box. Instead, You have to spend more money to get the hub. The quality and color are top-notch, but the added costs and limitations make it hard to recommend over cheaper options that are more flexible. If you're okay with spending more and getting the hub, it's a solid choice, but there are definitely more budget-friendly alternatives out there.

We began our journey with Phillips Hue lighting almost three years ago when we remodeled our kitchen and decided to go with Philips Hue lighting for the entire project. The Hue lighting has been rock-solid. We use Amazon Echo devices to control the lighting and love how well Phillips Hue has built their Amazon Alexa integration. For our under-counter lighting we used four of the the Ambience gradient Lightstrips and have loved the results, though there are some things to be aware of that I’ll touch on in a moment. As we’ve continued to expand Hue lighting to the rest of the house we are currently running 62 Hue lights with 11 accessories split across two Hue bridges. While most of our Hue lighting are the 5/6 color recessed lighting, our latest project is building a home theater and our riser platform for the second row of seats needed two 12-foot light strips. This latest 5M Solo Lightstrip offering from Hue came at the perfect time for our project. There are a few frustrations working with Hue Lightstrips so lets get those out of the way first. The biggest one is that the power bricks are HUGE both in depth and in height. Flush mounting furniture or hiding the power bricks can be a challenge. In our kitchen our cabinet maker had to cut larger holes near the power outlets under the counters so that the bricks could plug in. For the theater riser, by pure luck alone we were able to hid the two bricks under the theater seats, with barely enough clearance. We have a third project to install the Lightstrips in a wine bar and we are already having to get creative with how we are going to work with hiding the brick in that scenario. Phillips Hue needs to put some more effort into shrinking the power bricks. The second frustration comes with cutting or extending the strips. Cutting the strips is simple. Extending the strips is simple with the extension kit available. It’s the inability to connect the cut strips to power that is frustrating. Phillips-Hue needs to release an adapter that lets you reconnect cut strips to a new power source. At the moment the only thing you can do with cut strips from the Solo line is to throw them away. The Gradient line can take the cut strips and use the Hue extension kit to lengthen the overall run, but even the Gradients can not be connected to a new power source. On the positive side, this 5M length eliminates the need to purchase two shorter strips and connect them with the extension kit to get to this length. Phillips Hue light strips are wider and thicker than almost every other LED strip on the market so if your installation will require installation in a track or other type of enclosure you’ll need to make sure to buy extra-wide channel lengths. We’ve lost hours of time online trying to find extra wide channel lengths that fit the Hue strips without success. They are supposed to attach to the surface using a tape-based backing that ships with the product. If the lights are being attached facing upward gravity and the included tape backing will work fine, but as soon as you invert the strips gravity gets in the way and the included tape is terrible. After a few weeks the adhesive began falling off the wood cabinets in our kitchen. We resolved this by using a heavy duty double-sided tape and have not had any issues since. For the theater riser, we are mounting them under the lip of the stairs, but since the stairs are carpeted, our solution here is to use plastic brackets that will be screwed into the carpet. The light strips snap into the plastic brackets to hold them in place. Despite these challenges, we love the results provided by the Hue light strips and the color changing ability introduces a level of whimsical fun that always brings out smiles at our house parties.

The Hue Solo Lightstrip comes to the extensive Hue lineup as a 30+ foot option for those looking to spice up the lighting in their space of choice. The usual positives apply her as with all Hue products; you get scene integration, settings flexibility, and industry leading reliability. However, given the options on the market for lightstrips right now, the Solo feels lacking for one huge reason, which I'll get to in a minute... Again, being a Hue product, you know what you're going to get in terms of setup and subsequent functionality. It's a plug and play affair here, literally, for those with existing Hue setups and bridges. This is how I've utilized my Solo, though it also supports bluetooth only operation, allowing you to connect directly to the lightstrip and subvert the bridge. In my experience, the bridge helps reliability in a tangible way that makes it worthwhile, but if you're not feeling it, you don't need them. Beyond that, I was easily able to integrate the Solo into my existing rooms and scenes. This could not have been easier, which is a huge bonus when compared to some other options on the market. However, a few of those options provide something that this does not... The main downfall of this lightstrip is that it doesn't support simultaneous multiple colors. For instance, in a perfect world, the Solo would allow you to utilize all 33 feet of it to create an array of color options; for instance, where the first 10 feet could be blue, with a transition into red for the next 10 feet, with a transition back into blue. What you get instead is a lightstrip that has to be a singular uniform color. This is unfortunate, again, given the fact that this is a feature of many other options on the market, and overall limits flexibility in my opinion. In summation, if you're looking for a single color lightstrip and want the most reliable lighting ecosystem on the market, the Solo is a great option. It brings along with it the plethora of benefits that come with all Hue products, and makes for a great product. I just can't look past the inability of this strip to show multiple colors simultaneously.

This extended version of the Hue light strip offers a longer length, which is a great improvement for lighting larger areas without needing extensions or multiple strips. It’s also convenient that the strip can be permanently trimmed to fit your space. Bluetooth functionality means you don’t need a bridge, but you’ll need one to access all features. However, the main downside is that this strip still only supports a single color at a time, with no multi-zone functionality. Other brands offer light strips with multiple colors, so it’s disappointing that Hue hasn’t added this feature to this light strip, especially considering the premium price. The build quality is excellent, but the limited functionality makes the strip feel lacking in comparison to competitors. Overall, the extended length allowed me to light my room’s perimeter seamlessly, which I appreciated. Still, I wish Hue had included more advanced features, as the product would be far more compelling with multi-zone capabilities.
