Customers are satisfied with the shaving quality, long battery life, and quietness of the S9000 Prestige shaver. Many appreciate its elegant design and lightweight feel, as well as the convenience of wet/dry use and the easy-to-use cleaning pod. However, some customers find the detached trimmer to be a drawback and would prefer USB-C charging for travel convenience.

EXCELLENT ELECTRIC RAZOR

Sometimes expensive gadgets aren't worth it and sometimes they're worth much more, this is a case wherein this electric razor is worth much more than its price. I can not think of one negative thing to say about this razor. Firstly the battery is great: from the half a charge it arrived with to a full charge it took a little over an hour. On a full charge I've shaved with it 12 times on medium (it has 3 power settings and medium was more than high enough to shave me close and quickly) before having to recharge it. That's a lot more than any other electric razor I've ever owned. Its the quietest electric razor that I've ever owned. It doesn't pull, tug and or snag any hairs. And best of all it gave me the closest shave as any electric razor that I've ever owned, in fact it was as good as a manual 4 blade razor. The stand that comes with it is nice but not required. Too bad it doesn't charge in the stand. The alternative straight cut razor attachment for sideburns was sharp and easy to use. The digital display tells you exactly how much batter life remains as well as what power setting you're on. This razor just feels really good your hand.

I was using a Philips Norelco arcitec for several years, then a few of the bar type razors I received as gifts over the years. But none were as good as my old arcitec, sadly long out of production. Now enter the S9000 Prestige. The Prestige is better than any razor I ever had, including my beloved arcitec. Apparently, Norelco used the past decade plus to good use improving its razors.
My face has a subtle scar that turns a manual razor into a weapon to that part of my face, but electrics handle well. Also, while most of my beard is the normal stiff face hair that electrics handle well, there is a patch of fine soft hair that grows curly and wild where I was badly burned as a young teen. No electric razor has ever done well with the soft wild patch. I would have to shave this section with a traditional razor.
Well, no more, the Prestige is the first razor to cut my entire face as smooth as a PGA golf course. Even the soft hair that grows curly and wild, though it takes an extra pass or two to get it all. Despite the extra passes, no razor burn at all. I let my beard grow out a few days over the weekend and that was no problem. No yanking, tugging, just a smooth shave. The razor speed is adjustable to suit your face comfort. Medium worked well for me, your beard and skin may vary.
Perhaps this is the “intelligent facial-hair sensor”, the “fully flexible heads”, or the “coating made of up to 500,000 microtech beads”, or likely a bit of everything that allows this to do what no razor before has been able to do for me before. I get my entire beard shaved quickly in a one shot and save the time the manual razor with shaving cream took for the wild area. Unlike other electrics, there seemed to be no break in period, it worked well and was comfortable from day one.
There is a trimmer head included for sideburns and such. Pull the head straight off (no twisting) and push on the trimmer to use. This is an extra step over the pop out trimmer on the arcitec, but it’s much easier to maneuver and use the trimmer this way. Keeping tabs on the trimmer and swapping it in when needed is worth the small effort. I keep the trimmer, cutter cleaning brush, and AC charger in the travel case that came with the razor.
Cleaning is easy. After each shave I open the razor head with the button at the bottom and give it a rinse to flush the hair out. Or you can just use the cleaning pod. I rinse so as not to contaminate the cleaning fluid with the hair build up and hopefully have it last a bit longer and not clog anywhere. After a rinse, I leave it open to dry. Every 2-3 days I put it in the Quick Clean Pod to give it a deeper clean and lubrication of the blades. The clean pod is easy to use, razor sits in the well upside down and while running pulls the fluid up and through the blades flushing and lubricating them. It pulses for about a minute, and it powers down on its own so you can walk away. It’s very effective and runs off the battery, no power cord needed.
After several days I opened the head and cleaned each of the three rotary razors and blades with the included brush. There is a circular ring holding the head in, just a bit of a twist releases it. There was next to no buildup after several days. I feel I can extend the brushout period to every two weeks, maybe more. Time will tell. One tip: take only one cutter/blade head apart at a time to clean, then reassemble before doing the next. Each rotary cutter blade beds in its own unique wear pattern. If you mix the cutters and covers, it will not work as well until you buy a replacement blade pack. Found that out with my first Norelco.
I tried shaving with the Prestige both wet and with shaving cream, both worked well. I don’t feel a need to use these since it does so well for me dry. But every face is different, and this provides you more options to work with if needed. You may want to use the clean pod after use with shaving cream to ensure its clean after. The razor is fully waterproof, no worries there, you can use it in the shower if you wish.
That’s all the maintenance there is other than replacing the blades every year or so. The razor is smart enough to tell you when they need replacing. The display shows the battery charge left as a percentage. A 5-minute charge will get you through a single shave or two, a full charge takes just one hour. Judging by the battery charge left, a full charge should last me 3-4 weeks.
This shaver is works fantastic on all the different hair types on the face, it saves me a few minutes each day, and it is the most comfortable shave I ever had. There’s plenty of tweaking you can do with the speed and the ability to use it wet, with gel or shaving cream that provide the user with many options to work with. I highly recommend giving this razor a try.

Impressive shave and limited irritation

I will be the first to admit that I don't usually use an electric shaver. As a 40 year-old guy with a heavy, curly beard, along with sensitive skin, I've found that electric shavers tend to cut too close and their friction can further irritate my skin. This leads to awful ingrown hairs, razor bumps, and sometimes even skin infections. However, I'm really tired of the sky-high costs of manual razor refills these days, so I wanted to give this shaver a shot. I'm pretty happy I did.
My in-hand opinion of the shaver is that it's crazy-well built. This thing is hefty and feels solid as a brick. Very nicely put together, Norelco! It has a small LCD screen that primarily displays battery %, along with other less-important notifications, etc. The shaver head opens up with a small button push for cleaning the blades. And it's easy to replace the entire head with a new one, or the included trimmer attachment. I was a little bummed that the trimmer wasn't built onto the shaver.
The shaver charges at what I consider to be an average pace. The user manual says that a 10 minute charge gives you a 30 minute shave. I didn't test that fact, but I can say it took several hours to go from 0-100% battery.
Onto the shave! This was, by far, the least offensive electric shave I'd ever had. Every flat area of my face was perfectly smooth, and that's with and against the grain of the hair. Manual razors can't say that (unless you shave against the grain...ouch!). I believe the shaver still utilizes a lift-and-cut system, and that might explain the closeness of the shave. The hair literally gets cut beneath the surface of the skin. Despite that, the flat parts of my face showed absolutely zero sign of ingrown hairs or irritation. Super happy and super smooth!
Now it wasn't perfect: The parts of my face with lots of curve were much more hit-and-miss. The worst was my chin, where the shaver trimmed everything down, but not nearly as smooth as my cheeks (or as smooth as my usual manual razor). It left what I estimate to be a 5 o'clock shadow on my chin. The first few mm's directly under my nostrils were missed completely. Thankfully I don't have much hair there, but it was inconvenient to go back over it with another razor.
As far as overall irritation goes, this shaver is hands-down better than any other I've tried (namely Panasonic's and previous generation Norelco's). In fact, the only place I had any irritation was around my Adam's apple. This is typical for me, even occasionally for my sensitive skin branded manual razor. The creases of my neck started out like they might have some ingrown issues, but thankfully none occurred. Again, pretty impressive for an electric shaver.
Time-wise: This was roughly twice the time it takes me to shave with a manual razor. Why? Part of it is the multiple passes and part is just the way the shaver is designed to be used. Norelco shavers are designed to be used in small, circular motions--much like one might do to clean a window or wax or a car. However, a manual razor is used more like a squeegee that dries the window: One swipe, move on. Moral of the story is this: If you don't typically rush your shave, then you'll be fine. It took me about 10-12 minutes to do a good job with this guy vs. 5-7 minutes with manual.
The cleaning system is okay. After every shave, I empty out the hair trimmings and rinse the blades, so I never really had a filthy shaver. Basically, Norelco includes a small tub of cleaning solution, along with a stand that allow the head of the shaver to be submerged inside the solution. Nothing groundbreaking, by any means. Snap the shaver into the stand, turn on the power, and go. Shaver comes out squeaky clean, for sure! I haven't looked at the pricing for replacement solution, so I can't comment on that. But I wonder if one could make their own solution and save a fortune. If the cleaning system means a lot to you, you probably won't be impressed by this one.
Overall, I found this electric shaver to be very impressive. It delivers a (mostly) comfortable and crazy-smooth shave, is well-built, looks and feels like it'll last years, and includes a cleaning system. The negatives are few: difficultly achieving smooth results on curved areas or tight-spaces, along with some minor irritation here and there. Plus, the cleaning system is pretty 'meh' compared to some other high-end shavers. But if you can overlook those few nit picks, I think you'll be just as impressed with this new Norelco as I am! Well worth the 4 stars!

As someone who's used a few electric shavers, the Philips Norelco S9000 is super solid, but could be a bit simpler to use.
To start, the build quality of the shaver is about as solid as most. I like the OLED display showing the battery level. The battery life on the shaver is relatively solid as well. While I quickly found myself going from 100 to 90%, I'd have no problem taking a trip on one charge.
Build quality and looks are cool, but obviously what matters is the shaving. The box advertises the S9000 as the ultimate closeness and skin comfort and after a decent amount of usage, I gotta admit, the shaver does provide a close shave. The Dual SteelPrecision blades provide a close shave that left my skin feeling smooth. With the trimmer? Ehhh...not as much. Understandably, I've kind of grown accustom to that with most electric shavers. I've been using the shaver mostly as a dry shaver, but I tested it as a wet shaver and it works well.
The shaving is clearly what matters most, and the shaver did leave my skin smooth, a lot of the setup around the shaver was not as smooth. Opening the cleaning gel was a little rough. I ended up spilling some of the gel because it took a lot of effort removing the cover from the gel's container. Maybe that was just mine? Cleaning the shaver doesn't work as easily as some of my other electric shavers. sometimes the shaver has fallen over when stood up to be cleaned. I assume it's doing a good job of cleaning, I'll have to look more at the longer term impact of the cleaning.
All in all, the Norelco S9000 is a great shaver with a few minor setbacks that keeps it short of perfection. With that said, it's likely to be my go-to shaver for the near future.

I don’t have thick facial hair. I have been using trimmers prior to this one. But I have been using rechargeable ones. The S9000 is a big upgrade than the previous Norelco OneBlade I’ve been using. It has three heads and it moves along the surface of my face. I can feel it go over my chin. I mainly use it in the shower. I go through all three of the settings. First low, then medium, then high. It’s a nice clean shave. My skin feels smooth afterwards and I just use water, no cream.
But here is where I think it needs to improve. Even with over three passes, it misses a little bit here, a little bit there. Not patches but a strand here, or strand there. I don’t have a mirror in the shower but I figured I do multiple passes each time I switch the settings, yet it still misses. Even at low settings, the blades sometimes catches hair and tugs it but not cut it. It doesn’t hurt but more of just a surprise reaction.
It's supposed to last 60 minutes on a full charge. I would use it for about 10 minutes and it goes down by 6%. That doesn’t seem to add up. I wonder if it uses more while in the shower?
Finally, it doesn’t have a dock to charge. It comes with a charging cable but you just have it lie there. It would be nice if it came with a dock so it stands while it charges.
The travel bag is nice and simple. I can tell it will protect the shaver.

I really don’t enjoy shaving. It takes too much time out of my mornings and it’s an inconvenience. I normally use a razor and shaving cream, and it’ll take me around 3-4 minutes from start to dry. When I saw the Phillips Norelco, I was really excited to see how this could improve my shaving time and quality.
In the box, you get everything you need for a quick shave. I really like the screen of the shaver; it’s bright and the text is easy to read. The battery percentage shows up and turns off while not in use. It has very fast charging, which is great if you’re in a rush. Also included in the box is a nice carrying case and a cleaning pod. The cleaning pod is something I’ve never seen, but it helps to clean and lubricate the shaver, which is nice to have.
Since I’ve been using a razor for so long, I knew that my skin was going to need to get used to the shaver. I started at the lowest setting on my 5 day beard and used my normal shaving cream. It started working very well. I also tried the medium and high settings and those did a much better job of getting larger hairs. After about a minute or two, it shaved most of my beard, but left some stragglers towards the bottom of my neck and chin. I had to finish off the shave using my razor to get the missed spots. After rinsing, I would give the shave a 7/10. I had some irritation on my neck, but it was expected.
Overall, the Phillips Norelco is something that I’m excited to keep using. I normally wait a week to shave, but the shaver makes it so easy that I feel I could do it every other day in a couple of minutes.

My son has been in search of the perfect shaving tool that is easy to use for a young man just starting out with shaving but is quality made. He was more than excited to give this one a try. Previously he had only used traditional disposable razors and an electric shaver that started out fitting his needs but the quality was short lived. Because this was his first time using this style of shaver it was definitely a little bit of a learning curve but nothing too complex. His job doesn't require him to be clean shaven but there isn't a lot of wiggle room for length so while he doesn't have to shave daily he does need to do it every 7-10 days so he was looking for something that could give him a close enough shave where he could continue that schedule. While this one doesn't give him the absolute close shave of a traditional razor blade this definitely fit his needs. What he loved most is how it didn't irritate his skin which is always a concern although he definitely prefers the more comfortable wet shave over dry. He also loves the easy cleaning via the cleaning pod. Time will tell how long the blades truly last before he needs to replace them but so far he seems pretty happy with this model.

The Philips Norelco S9000 is the top tier Electric Razor experience! If you are like me you never splurged for the nicer shavers, I mean they are expensive right!? Well my friend, your time has come. Step into a premium shaving experience and see what you have been missing out on all of these years! This shaver does it all! The closest shave of any electric razor I have ever used! On top of that it has a trimmer attachment that works like a dream! But who wants to break down an electric razor and clean it all the time? No one! And you don't have to because the S9000 has a cleaning pod that does all the work for you, how awesome is that? In addition to being great on my face I also use the Norelco S9000 Prestige to shave my head! That saves me so much time every day, it used to be a whole process and now I can knock it out in just a couple minutes with zero shaving cream or mess! How easy! I am very glad I finally got an elite razor, it really stands out from the pack with all of the features!
