This razor machine does not function properly and it do what supposed to do

Not a very close shave and have to go over and over same area to get to that point.

Does not cut cleanly for the price and the blades don't contour to the head very well

Got as a gift, they said it did nothing for Grandsons very short beard.

This is not skin friendly. Skin irritation and bruises

Not efficient or effective. Took longer to use, then do a traditional shave. Will return if possible.

Don't do it. This shaver is not good at all. I never purchase things to save a few bucks and this is a perfect example of it.

The Philips Norelco Shaver 5000X is one of many Philips Norelco shavers that I have used. This shaver has several pros as well as a couple of cons. If you are reading this review to know if this is a good shaver the answer is a resounding yes. For the price point and what service is delivered this is a solid choice and will treat your or your loved ones’ faces right. Out of the box, the design is very awe inspiring. Electric shavers have come a long way. They tend to be less short and stubby and are now more often longer and more ergonomic. The 5000X will allow the user to choose whether to shave wet or dry. Either of which will deliver excellent results. I also have not experienced any irritation because of dry shaving. The blades are super sharp and provide a clean and close shave. The head is set on a pivot and will easily and comfortably glide across any facial contours. The unit is waterproof and works just as efficiently in the shower as it does dry. The waterproof aspect makes cleanup a breeze as well. You no longer need to carry a cleaning brush to sweep out beard hairs. From a look, feel, and execution this shaver does get the job done. My couple of nit-picky cons, really come as an avid user of Philips Norelco products. To be clear, these are not deal breakers just more questions back to the producer of why. My list of mid-tier items on this shaver is the battery, the charging cable, and the edger. The edger is ok, but they have better. However, the snap on and off feature does have me wondering how long it is until one of the heads will not be able to snap back in place, due to wear and tear. The battery is fine and charges quickly, but I am used to Philips offering a battery that just never dies. This is said in just, but the point is valid from their previous models at or around the same price point. Then the cable, again a “Why” back to the manufacturer. I have seven Norelco chargers under my cabinet right now. Six are the same and interchangeable between shavers and other miscellaneous products. Then there are two, including this one that are from different Norelco shavers that now have different charging cables. Just not a fan of that, I like consistency with this feature and would say to Philips to just go with a USB-C and be done with it. Overall, solid shaver that delivers a clean shave. 8 out of 10

If I focus solely on the results of shaving my face with this unit then I would tell you that my face feels clean shaven with no irritation, requiring no water or shaving gel/cream to complete. It’s when you look beyond the end result that things begin to disappoint. Philips decided to go the Apple Inc route of including a USB power cable to charge the shaver but not including a wall adapter; expecting you to already have one readily available for charging. I had previously invested in another Philips shaver with a rather large cleaning/charging dock that consumes the only power outlet I have in the bathroom, but the size and shape of this new shaver won’t allow it o be used which is environmentally unfriendly at best and a pain in the rear at worst. I’m a geek with a junk drawer full of adapters so I can make do; though I was further disappointed that Philips went with USB-A instead of USB-C for the cable. The good news is that the battery lasts a long time. The box claims 60 minutes of shaving though I can’t imagine having enough hair on my entire body to require 60 minutes to shave it all off so I figure it will be a month or two before I have to hassle with charging the thing. The unit emits about as much noise as every other electric shaver I’ve used, which is to say enough to know its running without a jet engine next to your head. Cleaning the unit after a shave is a simple one button click experience. The bottom line for me is that this thing gets the job done in a compact enough form factor, I just wish they had gone with USB-C for charging.

I switched from traditional razors to electric razors a few years ago as a matter of simple convenience. I’ve not yet met an electric razor that shaves as close as a traditional razor That said, while electric razors fall short in closeness of shave they make up for in convenience – with an electric razor and no shaving cream I can get a reasonable shave and facial touch up pretty much anywhere, anytime – on the road or anywhere else. I’m also a bald-ish guy so I use my electric razors on my head once a week. I travel a good bit as well and it has always been a minor nuisance to carry an charger just for my electric razor that I might need to charge once a week if that, and this is where the Norelco 5000x comes in; this model comes with and charges with a standard USB A slot so there’s no longer a need to carry a special adapter just for one device. The one caveat is that you DO still need to use a special cable since the connector on the shaver side is still unique to the razor. If I had one design suggestion it would be for Norelco to put a standard USB-C port on the razor itself to completely alleviate the need for a proprietary cable. As-is it’s a step in the right direction for sure, just that last bit to go. Shave wise this did better than my previous electric razor though that may have been just because the razor heads are new. What I saw in the box suggests the 5000x shave heads should be replaced once a year so set your calendar accordingly. My shaves with the 5000x were good but not extraordinary, I usually had to go over the same spots repeatedly a few times before the area felt reasonably clear, especially on my neck and jawline. This isn’t unusual in my experience, I see it as the tradeoff for shave-anywhere convenience and needing to replace my blades only once a year. Cleanup was easy, just open and rinse and leave it out to dry. The trimmer attachment worked well to trim and tidy the edges of my goatee and mustache. Overall, this is an affordable travel companion and daily use razor.

The Philips Norelco Shaver 5000 X is a somewhat compact razor. By that I mean the handle is slimer than many of the Philips razors I have used in the past. I suppose the 5000 X is the entry model for this series. It is fairly plain Jane with no indictor lights except the white light ring near the blade head that is on when you are using it. The white ring serves as the charging indcator light and the low battery indicator as well. The unit comes with a SH 30 blade head and a grooming attachmnent. I have a 9000 series shaver and although the heads are a different style, they seem to be interchangeable, so you can play around with a different head if this one doesn't suit you. The Shaver is very quiet and the shaving head that this unit is equipped with does a very good job providing a close shave. This particular head has a skinglide protective coating that Philips claims will provide a 20% smoother glide on your skin. According to Philips this shaver has a 360 degree flexing head, is wet or dry capable and has a 50 minute run time. If I have one gripe with Philips is how they set up the USB charding cable. Yes this unit has a USB type A (large end) cable that is uses to charge the razor, but, like a lot of companies these days, don't include the charging block. But, that is not my problem. Philips took the USB cable and put a proprietary end that attaches to the razor. Maybe there is some reason that it couldn't just use a USB C end to charge, I don't know, I Just know you have to use their USB cable to charge this unit. Other than that one little issue, I think this is a great razor, particularly if you want one to take with you as you travel. It takes up much less space than some of the other Razors I have and runs extremely quiet. I think it is a good buy.

Look no further, this is the shaver you are looking for. Close shave,smooth on your skin. Easily charged and cleanse in seconds. I could not be happier with my purchase. Light weight for travel, consistent great, close shaves. My skin thanks me.

I think this is the best all around shave I've ever had. This Philips Norelco 5000x simplicity is great. You have the 3 round flexing blades head attachment, the trimmer attachment, and a power cord. The body has a good grippy surface, is shower proof, and washable. The round blades, my first shave was super smooth, no tugging or pulling, gently gliding through my facial hairs. I don't have the thickest facial hair but my skin is sensitive and I had zero irritation. I had to make just a couple small passes to get all of the hairs which ended up being very smooth. The 5000x comes with a trimmer attachment for side burns and neck, which if you also use it slightly on your face, it creates the perfect length 5 o'clock shadow for those of you who also only have to shave every other day. The attachment just pops on and off interchangeable with the round heads. Off label use body grooming with the trimmer is gentle to use on sensitive areas in my experience but obviously use caution and follow the directions in the box. The power cord comes in the form of a USB plug with no hub. Would have preferred a standard plug but not a big deal, I have those hubs around the house. Overall, great shave, no irritation, trimmer is great. Not sure what else anyone could ask for. Highly recommended if you want a great shave.

The Philips Norelco Shaver 5000X shaver was packaged well and is lightweight. Upon unpackaging, there are no real instructions included in the box. It is however pretty easy to figure out how to use it and charge it. It charged for a short period of time and it seemed to hold the charge for 2 good shaves. One was a short dry touch up shave, and one was a regular shave that was done in the shower. It comes with a USB charging cord but no power cube - which in my opinion it should. It is unfortunate that you can't use it while it is plugged in so make sure you keep it charged. It worked just as well both dry and wet which was a bonus. Clean up use in the shower was much easier as it was just part of the shower process. It comes with 2 different heads and it is very easy to switch heads and easy to clean up the heads under water because they just snap off. The shave was clean and there were no razor bumps. This razor is a nice size and small enough to fit easily into travel bags. I would recommend this razor to any age.
