Customers are saying

Customers praise the ProtectiveClean 4100 for its exceptional cleaning ability, long-lasting battery life, and ease of use. Many also appreciate its affordable price and the helpful built-in timer. While some found the vibration level somewhat intense and noted a lack of advanced features or multiple cleaning modes compared to higher-priced models, the positive feedback on cleaning effectiveness and battery life outweighs these concerns for most users.

For all who “know it all” and don’t like to read directions, good idea to make the time to read the instructions BEFORE you start with this upgraded technology. Even though there’s a 3 Step Quick Start and even if you are a veteran Philips Sonicare user, you will want to know how to adjust the special features of this brush before Start Up. Since I may be a tad ‘know it all’, I unwittingly did the Quick Start correctly without reading the instructions; but, learned when I finally sat down with the booklet that, unless you deactivate the EASY START feature, you will not get the full force of the brush head at start up. The EASY START feature affords, the newbie with tender gums, a 14 day gentle build up to the full force of the Philips Sonicare brush head action. And, since I have been a ‘powered’ toothbrush user for some time, I wondered why the brush head action seemed restrained. I even imagined that the new sonic or sound wave technology that dentists use may be the latest evolution installed in the Sonicare. Nonetheless, even after using the tooth brush at its gentlest first day level, I detected a higher level of cleanliness of my mouth and gums after I finished. I will have to investigate at Customer Service whether there is a certain amount of vibrational frequency tech that may provide the user a deeper clean. If that next generation concept is not on the Sonicare R+D table by now, it should be. Backstory is that I had gone rogue from Sonicare for a while then decided to revisit the Philips brand. I found that the experiment was worth the investment. The updated Philips Sonicare has installed some new game changers that I have not yet seen in competitor models. As noted in the long version of their instructions, you can activate or deactivate the following: • EASY START …. BTW, the instructions state: “To achieve clinical efficacy, the EASY START needs to be deactivated.” • BRUSH HEAD REPLACEMENT REMINDER….it will be interesting to see if the mircochip’s idea of when I should replace my brush head coincides with my idea of when I need a new brush head. • PRESSURE SENSOR….novel idea that should keep aggressive brushers from hurting themselves. Their QUAD PACER has an audible timer to pace your brushing for each quadrant. QUAD PACER shuts off after 2 minutes, allowing recommended time to brush your entire mouth. The brush is also safe to use on BRACES and other dental RESTORATIONS. The latter reminds me that I tried the Philips Diamond Head brush a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, that brush head polished the ‘enamel’ off my teeth to the point of increased sensitivity and an immediate exchange for the Elite Precision. The brush head bristles on this 4100 Protective Clean, so far, have a more flexible and less harsh impact on my dentifrice. As well, the manual’s illustrations offer a couple of interesting suggestions that optimize access to angled tooth surfaces. Must say, I do like their 2 YEAR WARRANTY. I also like their encouragement and instructions to recycle the battery at end of product life. The Philips manual says: “The product is not intended to be repaired by service personnel in case of failure or component defect (unit can be thrown away).” (The run on sentence belongs to Philips.) Regarding environmental concerns, I am disappointed in the company’s lack of consciousness about the role that manufacturers must take as leaders in recovering post-consumer waste. At least in prior models, the consumer could extend the life of the tooth brush’s outer shell and electronics with the installation of a replacement battery. As we near the sixth extinction, more sustainable measures should be taken by manufacturers to protect the environment. I will email Philips CS to consider a post-consumer recycling program for the plastic case and all metal parts, especially since these times require all parts toxic to the consumer and the environment be channeled into a closed system that reduces our carbon footprint. With a rebate incentive, we could easily send the unit back to Philips for reintegration into their new editions. Short of new legislation that would institute sustainable behavior by manufacturers, I ask consumers to encourage Philips and all manufacturers to design strategies to repurpose our post-consumer waste. Keep smiling!

For the price this toothbrush appears to do what it is designed to do. I am used to buying the 250 system so I am a forever user of Sonicare. It's like I've been to the dentist everytime I brush my teeth.

I’ve had the $200 sonic toothbrush and bought this on a whim since my other one broke. Doesn’t feel as sturdy and it’s not as powerful. Maybe good for people who want to try it out before investing a lot of money for a good one

In my opinion this is the best toothbrush for getting your teeth clean outside of a dentist office. Unfortunately, they seem to start malfunctioning within a year requiring you to purchase again and again.

      Hi Terry,

Thanks for coming here and leaving your comments. It's great to know that you love our Sonicare toothbrush and its features. 😊 It's not only convenient to use, it's also clinically proven to provide superior cleaning compared to a manual toothbrush, while being gentler on teeth and gums. So that's a big plus. However, we are sad for your first model that didn't last long. We hope that you have contacted our assistance to investigate what happened to your device.

If you have any problems with your new Sonicare, please contact out to us on Social Media. We’re available 24/7 on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/Philips ) and Twitter (https://twitter.com/philipscare). Alternatively, you can reach out to us via the contact page on our website. This toothbrush was really aggressive relative to other electric toothbrushes I’ve owned. It feels like it’s rattling my teeth out! Definitely a budget option.

It beats a manual but not by much. The cost of replacement heads does not make this much of a bargain.
