Almost perfect. At least for me...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very happy with my purchase. The sound is phenomenal. The setup was easy and quick because I was replacing a previous reciever. I love the flexabilty of this box. My only complaint, which may not be for everyone, the 4k upscaling is not as good as my Tv's ability to upscale. Let me explain, I have a Samsung SUHD JS8500. The processor in the TV, in my experience, was far suppirior. When using the Vsx-90's upscaling, the picture appeared washed out and lacking vivid color. After reviewing the manual (200pages) I located a setting where you could turn off scaling by using "pure" mode. Once the aforementioned was performed, I am very happy! I have a great picture and tremendous sound quality. Again, the above may not bother you, because the TV you own may be different and have a worse upscaling feature than the VSX-90. In that case, out of the box, you are good to go. But if you have a high end TV, look for the "pure" setting and find what works best for you. 4.5 stars if I could

Good receiver had a hard time setting it up
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had a hard time getting inputs to work properly and setting up the dual zone. Wanted to have audio come out of the tv and speakers which is not possible apparently so had to reroute the connections to get it to do what I wanted.

More Technical Specifications!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let's get some more technical specifications! Bestbuy.com doesn't always have the best or most useful technical specifications: This unit will do 2160p60 at 4:4:4 All HDMI inputs and outputs are HDCP 2.2 The inputs that will allow for 2160P60 at 4:4:4 are:: BD IN HDMI IN 1 HDMI IN 2 If you think you need more you need to consider that there's basically nothing commercially available that supports it just quite yet, that will change this winter when UHD Blu-Ray players are released, but you probably don't need 3 of them. No, the HDMI ports aren't 2.0a, but a firmware update could make them. For those of you worried about whether you are going to miss out on HDR than you may want to wait to purchase this to make sure it can become 2.0a compatible. This receiver supports: Dolby Atmos 5.2.2 Dolby TrueHD DTS-HD DTS-ES and of course Dolby Surround and straight 5.1-7.1 signals coming from sources such as a computer or audio processor This receiver does NOT support: Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 or 7.1.2 or higher (It is not physically capable of doing so) DTS X True 5.1-7.1 from ARC TV output Despite what the bestbuy.com specifications page says this does in fact have 4K upscaling from 1080p sources, I personally recommend you don't use it, but the receiver does have this available. NOTE: 1080p upscaling is turned on by default. It you would like to know anything more about this sytem, leave a comment and I will try to answer it.

Open Box purchase, Closed Box return
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the VSX-90 as an open-box item and was very excited about the price because I have generally only heard good things about the Pioneer Elite line. I wasn't as excited when I was returning it a few days later. The setup, while visually pleasing, wasn't the most user friendly AND the HDMI Out 1 (ARC) port didn't work. Returned it and got the Denon S920W and am LOVING it.

Incredible!!!!!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife and I purchased our unit a few days after Christmas. I had done extensive research while looking for a new receiver with 4K capabilities because we are are upgrading our tv as well and I always came back to this unit. I am sooooooo glad I did! The difference in sound between the Pioneer VSX-90 and my old Sony unit is night and day difference. Granted my Sony was not a high end unit like the Pioneer so some difference was to be expected. I did not expect the difference to be so great. The sound quality and clarity are amazing. The set up was fairly easy with the Pioneer Set Up App. The MCACC Pro did a pretty nice job balancing the system and was very easy to use. I tweeked it just a bit but the results with the MCACC Pro were great. We have not purchased our 4K tv yet but I can tell a definite difference in picture quality coming from the Pioneer. Even on our old HD tv the picture is crisper and sharper and the colors are more richer than they were coming from the Sony. I'm not a huge fan of the remote but honestly I either use my Harmony remote or the Pioneer IControlAV 5 app, which I love, on my I-pad to do things with the receiver. We were fortunate enough to happen upon it when it was on sale for $200 off so I jumped on it immediately. Even at full price you can't go wrong with the Pioneer VSX-90!

Great receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this on sale and always was a fan of the Elite series from Pioneer. I use it for audio and video, but primarily audio. It is a superb receiver. It was very easy to setup, about 30mins via the iPhone app. The sound is awesome, the size is perfect, power is more than enough.

Excellent Home Theater receiver.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pioneer has outdone themselves with the VSX-90 Home Theater receiver. This unit is packed with features normally found in much more expensive receivers like Dolby ATMOS, 7.2.2 speaker arrangement and Multi-Channel Automatic configuration (MCACC). The set-up was a little confusing at first, but after actually reading the instructions, everything configured quickly and mostly on it's own. The MCACC worked flawlessly, even informing me that I had the rear speaker polarity wired backwards. I set up the networking using the ethernet connection and love having Pandora built into my receiver. Bluetooth set-up was a snap, and the ability to play high bit rate files is fantastic. You can truly hear the difference. I'll never listen to CDs again. The phone App made configuring the input labels a breeze. I'm using NHT speakers for the front, center and height speakers, a pair of Definitive Technology SR - 8040BPs for the rear and an MB Quart 12" sub. This system rocks. Sounds come from everywhere. Dinosaurs run through the forest behind us, and the room sounds so much larger than it is. This receiver has more than enough power to make any movie come alive, and dialogue is clear and appears to be coming directly from the actors on the screen. I would recommend this receiver to anyone who loves watching movies the way they were meant to be seen.

Great receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this receiver. I replaced my Onkyo and couldn't be happier. The Onkyo had a problem getting hot with extended use. This Pioneer has no problems with that at all. However, I do sometimes have a problem keeping it connected to my wifi. I am not sure if the problem is the receiver or Comcast (likely Comcast). The sound is great and the features are cool too. I love the app too! And since I have my components in an area away from the TV and out of sight, it comes in handy as I do not even use the included remote.
