I've had this receiver for almost 2 months now- I love it. I'm no audiophile, and between age, live concerts, and headphones, my hearing probably isn't what it used to be. However, I can certainly tell an improvement in sound when I hear it. It sounds GREAT! My previous receiver was a bottom entry level Philips, so this is light-years ahead of that in every way. I'm in a relatively small apartment so I don't need monster sound- pretty sure my neighbors would be upset if I was shaking the walls regularly. I just want GOOD sound. I have it hooked up to my TV, my cable box, a turntable, and old Sony SACD/DVD player, and a Sony Blu-ray player. It drives a set of older Infinity bookshelf speakers, a 10" Polk powered subwoofer, and a Polk center channel speaker. Sound is big and clear. Crisp highs, warm mids, and great bass. I bought this model because it had everything I wanted: WiFi, Bluetooth, a phono jack, and the ability to expand later as I upgrade components. Setup was a breeze. Pandora sounds great through it. I push a button and all the music on my phone is accessible- talk about convenient. The only issue I have is when I power it on with the TV. When I turn on the TV, the receiver also powers up, but only for like 10 - 15 seconds. Then it turns off and I have to turn it back on again. I'm thinking its a setting, or the way I have it hooked up to the TV- I just haven't bothered to thoroughly research it yet. Other than that, I'm enjoying the heck out of this thing. I use it every single day. It really is a joy to use.

It is perfect for my application. I use it in the Garage. It pushes 2 Polk S15, a Polk S30 and 2 older Technics SBCR55. If and when i want to crank it up it does so very nicely. The upscale also looks very nice the older tv i have in garage.

I've had at least a mid-range receiver as part of my home audio experience for the last 25 years or so, and they have all been Sony. After the HDMI board crapped out on my last model, I did some research and read about this beauty from Pioneer. Now is as good of a time to upgrade to an Atmos set to really take advantage of those UHD Blu-Rays over and above the visual upgrade. The Pioneer VSXLX104 is an awesome mid-range receiver that delivers a litany of audio options aimed at the ardent audiophile. With a rich, full low end, and a crispy high end, there is a marked difference in quality from the old Sony - and I still haven't upgraded the speakers! Wonderfully, the VSXLX104 also has HDR and 4k/60 pass through on every HDMI input. Speaking of the HDMI, the 2.2 comparability is a nice touch that helps to future proof your investment so you aren't upgrading in the next couple years. Quick tip: there is a trick you have to do to get the HDR to pass through, and it is not in the manual. A quick Google search will bring it up. I'm also enjoying the many small touches I continue to discover, like how the volume control is very nuanced. It lets you access many more levels than any Sony I've had. It has a wide range of pre-set soundscapes to choose from, which is handy if you want to spice up your listening experience. The Sonos compatibility is obnoxious as you have to purchase another device that costs as much as this receiver to get them to talk to each other, which is an expensive bummer. The remote is actually pretty simple - if a little ugly. But, it does the job. The on screen menu is very nice to have, but it's garish and not the most intuitive. Again, like the remote, it gets the job done. Overall, it's a solid, no frills purchase. For the price it has every feature you could want and more in a mid-range receiver, and it sounds fantastic. The money in development was put on features and sound quality, not in sexy menus and high-tech remotes - which helped to deliver a feature rich machine at a lower cost. I fell in love immediately, and I suspect you will to.

For the money I think this is the best receiver available. I have a couple of yamaha receivers and a harmon kardon but none have the capability this has. I saw some people call this a "beginner" AV receiver which is hilarious considering you buy a receiver for it's capability not yours. Above this LX104 (Like the LX304,LX504, etc.) power is really what you gain because I see no real benefit otherwise. IMAX enhanced comes with higher end receivers but is a complete gimmick. Connectivity: My system is setup as 5.1.2 with height virtualization. I use bluetooth frequently via Google Pixel 4 and a Fiio M5, both connect easily. The receiver is also connected to Amazon Music and Tidal but not often. The Pioneer Music Control App is no good. Arc is a good connection to have, especially if you use your TV to process the video and only send sound to the receiver like I do. Power: This has a Powered Zone 2 with DAC. I tried it out but the amp does seem to work hard with everything on, maybe reducing power somewhat overall. I don't really need so typically not used. At 80 w/2 channel this receiver is plenty for my 22' x 15' family room. Sound: MCACC setup is easy and accurate. My room is rectangular with the center channel 7' from the left surround speaker and about 15' from the right, surrounds are all JBL In Wall speakers. Sound is excellent especially in movies, compared to older receiver it opened up a whole new world. ARC works great when using the TV to receive and process video, ARC allows sound to pass from TV to be processed and does an excellent job of it. As far as actual audio processing goes this has many of the features for people who love FLAC files. I like FLAC but finding the difference between the processing by a receiver and the sound coming from a speaker falls more on the speaker quality. Video Processing: If I let the receiver do the processing, which I do with Cable, it does a great job. Some prefer pass through and I completely understand. I will say that the processing is a bit bright/saturated but there are so many ways to adjust that it isn't worth commenting on, just play around with it. Overall this was a great purchase, I was going to go with a Denon AVRX2600H but couldn't justify the price for what I got from this Pioneer. It has everything you need for video and audio processing for the foreseeable future, HDMI 2.1 excluded. 2.1 is needed for 8k processing so you'll need new cables and a new receiver for that. I would say i'm a long ways away from buying an 8k tv so this has the technology I needed now and for the next few years. LX104 is a very, very, safe and smart purchase if you're in need of a new receiver. The Magnolia room at BB is a great place to check it out and compare to other recievers, I recommend doing that as well.

This is a heavy duty receiver. Built well in every way. Pioneer always showcased its products with the great effort they put into their products. There are a ton of options on this receiver. The Dolby Atmos sounds super great. This receiver is easy to read the display. Lots of power for my medium size living room. I’m very happy with this purchase.

It has only been a week but I must say that the receiver is really good. This is a 2019 unit that was on sale for $449 when I purchased. I like it more for playing music and I'm working on my surround sound for movies. My previous receiver was a Denon AVR-1912 that I purchased from BestBuy in February 2012 that I really liked; but I hated its archaic visuals/navigation. That receiver sounded great as well but I do not remember that receiver having so much command with my front speakers as the Pioneer 104. The music is extremely clear with this unit and sounds great throughout the house. I currently have Polk speakers throughout which have held up since February 2012 (minus the sub, I recently bought a replacement PSW10). Movies sound great as well but I'm still working on which format I like to use to take advantage of the rear speakers. This is probably why they have the "Personal Presets" on the remote so you don't spend a good 30 seconds flipping though sound formats. I never paid attention to movie formats when I had my Denon, but I quickly noticed some formats are available based on the formats provided by the movie (everyone probably already knew that). Either way, once I find the right setting for the movie I'm watching, the rear speakers come to life. There are a few features that I like with this Elite that are either improvements from my old Denon or are features that the Denon lacked. 1. The display on screen is awesome and actually looks up-to-date. Meaning, the apps are presented in what appears to be in HD and are easy to navigate through. 2. Zone B is awesome. I purchased a bluetooth transmitter that connects to the rear Zone B output which allows me to listen to the tv at night while everyone is sleep. There are two settings. You can transmit though the speakers connected to the unit and to the wireless headphones or you can transmit specifically to the headphones. This may not be a new feature but is something that I think is really cool. 3. DTS Play-Fi app is easy to navigate. Before downloading the app, I used bluetooth to connect my phone to the receiver and it constantly dropped connection or had some static interference. Once I downloaded the DTS Play Fi app, I've been able to connect through Napster from my phone to the receiver without problems. This review is too long but in general, I'm pleased with the purchase.

Great sound, terrific features, relatively straightforward app to control it; one of the main reasons I got it was the dual zone feature for deck speakers we have - works awesome! We can listen to digital content (ex, Spotify) easily in the 2nd zone. Be careful - many dual zone systems do not allow for digital content in the 2nd zone. I had (have) another Pioneer Elite receiver that has lasted for > 10 years while other brands have died after 3-4. I was lucky, too, I was able to get a "used - excellent condition" version so I got this with the regular warranty for a steal.

Easy setup with great sound... using as 5.1.2 and Dolby Atmos is fantastic. Didn’t realize Pioneer was now in the Onkyo family as the setup screens almost identical to an older model Onkyo I had. Wi-if built in. Highly recommend.

Initially I purchase the Onkyo within this same price point but the Bluetooth kept dropping so I returned it and purchased the Pioneer... 1 month in and I am loving it. The Bluetooth is great but there’s a host of other features that I’ve come to love. This is a great receiver however the 80 watts per channel are a ok and the Onkyo had the advantage there. Also the Zone2 feat isn’t consistent. I’ve purchased a second receiver to handle the downstairs portion of the home which includes in-wall and in-ceiling speakers (Sony 1080). It’s sounds great and meshes well with those speaks along with Klipsch 6000 floor. Also The Pioneer is great at home theatre and goes well with my Samsung 4K. I’d recommend this receiver...

Love it! Combined with the AppleTV 5th gen I get full Atmos support and HDR. Totally changed my home sound experience. I also love the pass through HDMI that gives true signal to my TV. The software interface is also east to use. You also just can't beat the price for similar systems that are much more expensive without a noticeable improvement (I compared with Sony).

I have always been a huge fan of Pioneer audio products. This Pioneer Elite 7.2 covers all of the bases for Dolby Atmos 4K Ultra HD. Pioneer allows you to tune your playback choices to your choice of playback sound; for example you can choose classical, pop, jazz, concert hall, etc. Get yourself some good speaker wire and by all means use banana plugs for your connections. Look for a marking on the wire so that the "right end of the wire going into the amp matches the right end of the wire that is hooked up to your speaker. Of course, investing in a good set of book shelf speakers and a woofer will prove how great the sound is from this Pioneer Elite.

Picked this receiver up as an upgrade to Dolby Atmos from a standard 5.1 system. Pros: 1.)Atmos and DTS:X with Atmos and DTS upmixing,2.) Nice, warm sound for both movies and music, 3.) nice selection of music streaming services are supported, 4.) Solid build quality. Cons: 1.) Not all of the music streaming services are supported, 2.) May be slightly underpowered for larger rooms. Overall: a solid, reasonably priced Atmos receiver with a lot of great features.

Awesome sound and great features. Bought this to accompany a new 4K TV & Xbox One X (4K disc drive). Replaced a Pioneer Elite VSX-44 that still worked great after 5 years of use, just didn’t support HDR or Dolby Atmos. Ended up selling to a private buyer. But because of the performance of that unit, brought me right back to another Pioneer Elite receiver. You usually get what you pay for!

This receiver was purchased to replace an Onkyo receiver of a comparable level of quality. There is a noticeable improvement in the quality of sound. The unit is easy to use and does everything that I require. The warranty is good. Would consider the Pioneer an upgrade over the Onkyo unit I had. I am pleased.

Best bang for your buck considering that it's the entry level of high end receiver of the Pioneer Elite series. I've coupled this with B&W 600 series speakers for surround sound and the clarity is amazing. Listening to music feels like you're listening live at the concert and watching movies makes you feel like you're in it. I'm not a professional audiophile but using Pioneer's built-in MCACC (Multi-Channel Acoustic Calibration System) automatically calibrated and adjusted the surround sound output to be optimal in the room environment and it turned out pretty well.
