Great video and sound; 2 HDMIs
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed to have an a/v amp to provide video to our media room as well as the game room, as well as be the source for sonos. Previous attempts with HDMI splitters were futile. Dual HDMI outs checked the video boxes, while the audio pre-out served as the audio source for my sonos connect amp in the game room. The unit also serves as another room for sonos. Great video and audio from unit with plenty of power. The automatic sound calibration (MCACC) was a breeze, and setup was easy. Just got it yesterday and I'll probably be learning about features this amp has for a long time. On screen menu very intuitive. You just need to activate the second zone if you are using the second HDMI & audio features in the setup menu.

Great Receiver
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced an Onkyo TX-NR636 with the Pioneer Elite VSX-LX503. Have it hooked up using the bi-amp configuration. If using the bi-amp configuration make sure your speakers are able to handle a bi-amp setup (4 posts per speaker). The setup was easy and the sound is excellent. Download and save the online manual to a computer for future use.

Powerful enough
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this receiver open for $420 and couldn't beat the price. Had issues getting my subs to work even after setting up optimizer mic (btw they tested fine). After a factory reset on the reciever they worked with music but after I ran the optimizer mic again they didn't so I reset again and just messed with the bass and treble to find a good sound. Not sure if this is a common prob or not. Very powerful and clear sounding receiver for what I spent and I'm happy enough with it.

Powerful, but missing many no brainer features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wanted to love this AVR. I was waiting for the new 2018-2019 SC-LX refresh, but Pioneer is still selling the SC-LX701, 801 & 901 as top of the line, when they are from 2015. This was the newest AVR Pioneer put out, so I thought I'd try it over an older SC-LX 701 or 801. This VXS-LX503 is still class D, but it seems Pioneer has dumbed down the menus and how flexible it is. I returned it after using it only for a day - so, my review focuses on the negative points. I also bought it from another retailer, but this needs to be said. 1. Too many useless surround presets! Just like Yamaha, way too many pseudo, fake presets. All I want is Auto, DOLBY, DTS, (including the new ones obviously) and all stereo (with no center). 2. It takes 14 menu clicks to go from 'auto surround' to all speaker stereo mode. But it doesn't remember when I turn down the center center channel, on that preset, I want it off. Who uses a center mono channel in all stereo mode? 3. No menu on the TV at all on FM... even my 10 year old AVR displayed the presets and let me organize them graphically. 3. No surround OSD when using bluetooth or NET, or USB, you have to click into another blue screen to adjust surround modes or bass & treble, then back to the graphical screen. Very weird. 4. USB doesn't show Artist!!! Hello? It sorts all mp3/flac files alphabetically by name (including folders) which gets very messy, and it sorts the songs by artist, but DOESN'T SHOW the artist, only the track name, so you get a very VERY strange sorting order, and very hard to find the artist when all you can see is the track title. Search doesn't work via the app either. 5. The app seems to be the only way you can quickly adjust things, the remote is terrible. 6. USB wouldn't play DTS WAV files, or even show .dsd or .dsf files 7. Auto surround kept audibly clicking in and out of surround modes when watching TV - I've never had an AVR click on and off for surround modes during TV playback just from turning the channel. Its annoying! Its the relay click you get going from stereo 2 channel to surround normally. It shouldn't be doing it as you're flipping channels. 8. There were also random audible glitches/pops in the speakers when I changed channels on the TV on "auto" surround mode as well.. This was very bad! I pretty much gave up after this, unplugged it, and packed it up for return. It's not worth the price of admission.

Middle of the road with HICCUPS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is a good receiver. I originally bought a yamaha RXV-583, then returned it because I realized how bad of a decision that was... Then, bought a VSX-LX103 and when I brought it home, it didn't have the power to make my Klipsch Icon KB-15s sound as nice as they did with my noisy old Sony receiver. When I bought my "open box" 503 - which I firmly assured myself as I listened to it in the store (the panel was not working at Magnolia to compare on purchase day) - that it was a better sounding receiver. When I got it home and hooked up to my 65" LG C8, it had all kinds of problems using the ARC channel. Pioneer blamed LG, LG blamed Pioneer. Ultimately, I'm using my inputs on my TV and sending to receiver. Not ideal in my book. I'm still looking into this. The settings are clear, simple and not too adjustable... We'll see how this develops.

Poor quality and poor customer service.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this product for my Optoma 4K projector. Had problem with HDMI output within few weeks. Had to Ship it on my cost ($87). Took for ever to get to speak to anyone. When they couldn't identify the issue, they just hung up! Finally after multiple trials on the phone, one identified the problem, keeps recurring. Poor product. Poor sound quality. Poor customer service. Not worth purchasing.
