Great sound & scalability but limited WiFi options
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros The sound quality is top notch. Multiple sonos speakers can be grouped together and in my opinion much better sound quality than the comparable Bose product. Cons WiFi stream options are limited. You can only play music from within your Sonos app on mobile device or Sonos software within pc. You cannot stream sound From movies or games. Great sound and scalability but would like to see Bluetooth option and ability to stream sound from pc

Great investment for a small company
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have a small 12-people company. We always struggled to have an easy way for everyone to play a bit of the music they love and share it with everybody. We bought a pair of Sonos 5, alongside the wireless controller, and it's changed the mood on the entire office. Everyone gets to add to the queue therir own music, or tune Last.fm to their favorite artist. We even purchased a Spotify subscription which is great if you want to listen to a specific band or album. It was a very straightforward setup and everyone just uses their own laptops (with the desktop Sonos controller) to push music around the office. We paired the two Sonos 5 in stereo mode, and later expanded the options with an Airport Express plugged in the Line-In of one of them. This allows employees to also push music directly using Airplay from their iPhones and Android (using DoubleTwist). The synchronization of both channels is perfect, no lags or interference from wireless of any kind, even when our office is 100% wireless! Also, we never got to play it at top volume as it gets very loud (even with great quality). The office is about ~100 square meters, and it easily fills it all with music. The instant mute option on either speaker is also great whenever the phone rings or someone has a conference call to attend. No more shouting "Someone please turn down the music!!!". You can even mute or lower the volume of the entire office right from your own laptop. We don't use the wireless controller that much, actually, given that we're all sitting in our desks with our laptops and use the Desktop Controller software almost exclusively. However, at home (I also bought the same equipment) it's a different story altogether. When friends come home, they just pick the controller and start playing music they like. Everyone gets to replace or add songs to the queue, it's great fun! The most awkward combinations of songs for sure, but everyone enjoys it thoroughly. Outstanding functionality, fun, and collaborative music playing. Great for work, great for home and parties.

Great system after a few setup speed bumps
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. On the whole, after handling some minor issues, I am very pleased with my new Sonos system. I have two S5 units, which were incredibly easy to set up and sound great, and one ZP90 connected to my living room stereo system, which was just as easy to set up. However, I did run into a few speed bumps that should not discourage buying this product, but should be anticipated: 1. If you have purchased songs via iTunes, some may be .m4p files, which are "protected" and can't be played outside of iTunes, including Sonos. You will need to convert these songs to .mp3(or some other unprotected format.) This conversion can be completed a number of different ways and at variable cost depending on the number of conversions you need. For me, the most time-efficient option was to purchase a conversion program (I paid $40.) Most new songs purchased on iTunes carry the .m4a "purchased" format, which don't have copyright restrictions on use. 2. The Sonos Controller 200 is a must-have if you want the system to work without delays, even if it does cost $350. All the Sonos products come with a computer desktop controller, but this controller isn't part of the Sonos network like the Controller 200. This means that the commands you send to Sonos with this computer desktop controller have to be transmitted via your home wireless network, which results in enough of a delay to cause frustration. I haven't yet used the iPhone control app; however, I see no reason why it wouldn't have the same delay problem as the computer desktop controller since it, too, must command the Sonos system via your home wireless network. 3. When it comes to streaming music from your computer's iTunes music folder (or any other music folder on your computer), you may experience interruptions if Sonos connects to that shared music folder over your home's wireless network. Streaming internet radio sounded fine, but the streaming songs from the music folder was unacceptably interrupted in my house, and I have a great wireless system without any interruptions from cordless phones, etc. The work-around for this involves copying your music folders onto a N.A.S. ("Network Attached Storage") such as the Apple Time Capsule or simply connecting your computer directly to your internet router with an ethernet cable. I did the later to avoid paying for a Time Capsule, or any other N.A.S, but that's only because my computer is a desktop model. If my computer were a laptop, direct connection with an ethernet cable would be less than ideal! An advantage to paying for an N.A.S is that your Sonos system can always access your music folder, even if your computer is shut down/sleeping, since the shared music folder that Sonos is accessing is actually in the N.A.S. For me, since the shared music folder is in my computer, and not an N.A.S, my Sonos cannot play from my iTunes music folder unless my computer is on. Hope this helps. After a weekend of sorting out a few bugs noted above, I am thoroughly enjoying the Sonos experience!!

SONOS Believer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I NEVER, ever write reviews, but I absolutely LOVE these speakers! Having moved away from CDs to digital music, I abandoned my stereo system with Bose speakers in favor of Bluetooth in my kitchen/greatroom. The main downside of that was that Bluetooth speakers can't be linked together to provide music everywhere you want it. I was playing the Bluetooth speaker so loud to hear it when I moved around the house, that it really annoyed my husband! A few weeks ago I purchased a Play 5 for the kitchen and a Play 3 for the bedroom. Although the Play 3 is a great speaker too, it doesn't have the full, rich sound of the Play 5. So, yesterday I bought another Play 5 for the bedroom and moved the Play 3 to another room ... more sound everywhere!! (I also discovered if I boosted the base and volume level of the Play 3 just a bit, it was balanced better with the bedroom speaker). Wi-Fi connections were simple to set up and I haven't had the first problem with the SONOS app on either my iPhone or iPad. When I wanted to adjust the settings of the two speakers in the rear part of the house, I just stood between the rooms and used my iPad to get the sound exactly liked I wanted -- it couldn't be easier, and domestic bliss has been restored to my house!!

Pretty Fantastic
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Everything that people rave about the Sonos Play 5 is true. With the latest software update, a wired connection or Sonos Bridge are not needed. Setup took all of 5 minutes and was extremely straight forward when using the Android app. The sound is great and the speaker is more portable than I thought. There is even a crevice in the back of the speaker for easy carrying. Now all I have to do is get another one.

Terrific music system
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The S5 has been an excellent addition to my music system. The sound from such a small device is really full and clear with nice bass. I love the "always on" aspect of this player. It is easy to transport around the house. The iphone/ipod touch app is very good and syncs very quickly to the system. I subscribe to Rhapsody and enjoy Last.fm and Pandora, but I really would have loved for Slacker to be included as well. Was looking at the Squeezebox lineup as well. Although a little more expensive, I'm glad I went with the Sonos and will be picking up a couple more S5's in the future.

Sonos S5 hits all the right notes
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A bit pricey but thousands less than a built in home audio system. I love my Sonos network and after 1 month of use I continue to add components and gain enjoyment. I have one BR100,four s5 player’s, and one ZP 90. All components exude quality of construction and perform as advertised. The sound from the S5 is terrific. While I am no audiophile, I detect no interference/static/drops and the clarity of sound is great even at very high volume. I would say this is equal to the Bose wave radios that I have heard. The ability to mute and change volume right at the S5 is a welcome design feature that gets used often. The iphone app is awesome and used regularly. It is easy to send new music to the basement if the kids are downstairs and link the upstairs zones all on the fly from the iphone. Volume can be adjusted universally across zones or you can adjust linked zones individually (turn up the kitchen and down the dining room). The music choices are unlimited and my favorite demo to house guests is to show them the plethora of internet radio stations worldwide broken down by geography. If you want romantic Italian music let’s see Europe-Italy-Forenza and then choose from the 30+ stations that are playing in Florence right now. Hit the station and in seconds, the music is streaming to your zones. I also enjoy access to all the local NY and Philadelphia stations that may have weak over air signals for my area. The Sirius/XM lineup is a bonus as I already pay subscription for car use. However, you can only have 1 Sirius/xm station playing at a time as you cannot send 1 station to one zone and a 2nd station to a 2nd zone. I believe this is to be a license issue with Sirius and not a Sonos imposed limit. Last FM and Pandora offer the ability to create a station based on your music preferences. And finally, access to my i-tunes library and play lists is always right at my fingertips ready to be played on any or all of my music zones. In addition to having the controls available on three iphones in the home, the app is installed on several computers and laptops. The PC application loads quickly and offers a clean and easy to use interface. With a computer always on in the kitchen, I often launch the Sonos app on the PC to get things started. Looking forward to the summer to link the Sonos to my poolside system to continue enjoy the whole house music offered by this great system. It appears to me that Sonos controls the pricing as all vendors seem to charge the same.

Great wireless solution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I moved into a new rental apartment, and wanted a room-to-room sound solution that was completely wireless, which can be taken with me when I leave and used anywhere. I installed a ZP 120 attached directly to my router, playing through 2 Polk bookshelf speakers ($200 at Best Buy) as a start. I added an S5 in the kitchen, which was absolutely a snap to install. (You need to have at least one Sonos component attached to your router--you can also use an S5 for that purpose.) To me, the sound quality is similar to the Bose iPod dock: pretty rich bass, warm tone, good power, but a little bit muddy because all the sound comes from one place--not enough separation for my ears. The best thing about the system, apart from the ease of installation, is that you can tap in to your entire music library (on itunes or elsewhere on your computer) without having to even boot it up, and you also have access to your Pandora stations, and to a worldwide selection of radio programming. You can buy the dedicated controller for around $200, or you can download the exact software for free for an iPhone or iTouch, eliminating the need to buy the Sonos controller. The biggest problem I had was that I added another S5 in the master bedroom, which is off of a long hallway and on the other side of an elevator bank, and the S5 would not connect to the system consistently. I solved the problem by adding a $100 ZoneBridge at the bedroom end of the hallway, which extended the range of the system sufficiently to make the bedroom unit work fine. Overall, the S5 gives good sound and great music options at a much better price point than a customized hard-wired system.

My wife LOVES it!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a Christmas gift for my wife. She loves being able to listen to Pandora or any of hundreds of internet radio stations from around the world. I will say that I think the unit is a bit pricey, but the sound quality and ease of setup and control is worth the cost. I wish they'd offer a discount for multiple zone players or for adding zone players to your system.

Literally Best Wireless Speaker Available
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent over two hours at Best Buy comparing the sound from the Sonos 5 speaker with the Bose Sound Touch 30 and several other wireless speakers from LG, Samsung, Pioneer and a few other brands. The sound from the Sonos speaker was exceptionally clear at high levels. The bass levels and ability to fill the area were comparable to my Yamaha 5.1 home theater system. The Bose was ok, but almost double the price and at times had a very one dimensional quality. The other speakers failed to produce a clear sound after turning the volume up halfway. I was afraid the Sonos wouldn't sound the same after getting it home, but man was I wrong. It sounded like a high end, multi speaker stereo in my living room. I plan on getting one for the bedroom and kitchen.

Immersive sound; simple installation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We wired the inside and outside of our house with Sonos components. Well, "wired" isn't true for the inside units, of course. That's the whole point with Sonos, and it works seamlessly. We have the Play 5 in the Living Room and two Play 1's in other spots of the house. I can unplug any of them and move into another room or move to my garage when I'm working out there and it picks right up where it left off. I also have a Sonos Connect Amp controlling the speakers out by the pool. These product great sound and the best part is I didn't have to tear up my walls.
