Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the PlayStation 4's impressive graphics, enjoyable controller, and ease of use. Many also praise its performance and find it to be a good value for the price. However, some customers point out the lack of backwards compatibility with previous PlayStation consoles and disappointingly short battery life of the controller. The absence of a bundled camera was also noted as a drawback by some users.

First game console I've ever owned, I'm from back in the Nintendo era. I play some of the games, purchase mainly for my grandson and family members, something we can do together, Aswell as his friends?

    Amazing console

This is an amazing console. Very fast UI,games load and download fast, graphics are very nice. Games look and run very smooth and crisp. It's really unbelievable how far we've come in the gaming world. The controller feels very nice.its a major upgrade from the previous gen. The battery doesn't last as long though. I get about 5 hrs of play before it says it's low. Charges quick on my power A charge station. Play Station plus is just great as well. You must pay for this if you want the online experience. It's $50 and you also get a few very good games "free" to download. I had Plus for my PS 3 and it was more than worth it. The content you get more than pays for the price of PSPlus. launch issues: I am lucky enough to have a perfect working console. However some unlucky folks have had issues with their consoles. All I can say is that there is an inherent risk when you get a console on or around the consoles launch. If you are getting this as an Xmas gift keep that in mind. You could potentially be giving the best gift or the biggest disappointment. I would recommend testing the console yourself and make sure it functions properly before wrapping it up. You could even download the updates so it's ready to go out if the box. Not only will it be ready to play, but you'll know it works. You might also want to consider an extended warranty. They are usually good for up to a few years and provide peace of mind. Though if you need to make an exchange right away good luck finding a console anytime before or after the holidays. Which is why I recommend testing it ASAP. Any issues, Call Sony.

I know this is not the popular opinion...but I quickly became bored of the same old shoot em up games and rehashes. May rebuy again in a few years when there's more exclusive games

I had an xbox 360 prior to this purchase. Xbox was way more simple to set up and start game play. also controller for xbox is better designed - I don't like the positions of the joysticks.

Stood in line 11/15 for 6 hrs was 4th in line. Froze my @-- off.Purchased Best Buy bundle (for just under $900) Gave to son for x-mas, completely surprised, as a parent it was great. After downloading required update and some games it stopped working. After turning it on it would beep 3 times and signal would keep coming in and out on the tv. Sony was their on x-mas day when I called, sent out box next day, boxed up, sent back and now waiting. Should have right after new year. Best Buy and the extra 2 yr protection with Geek Squad($190) was absolutely worthless, and in order to transfer that protection to the new ps4, before I can hook it up I have to take it for them to inspect.I understand this is part of the process of a system release however their should b some compensation for the 1% of ps4 owners that have to go through this, even if it is a guinea pig award.

I purchased the system, but haven't purchased any games, so it's hard to review it beyond the initial setup. I am PSN plus, but there are no meaningful PSN Plus games for free so...

I still prefer my Xbox over the Playstation. The console freezes up often and requires complete shut down to fix. I am strongly considering selling and buying Xbox One.

Can't save MP3, mp4 and videos to it like you could with the PS3. Still a bummer even after the music and video fix.

I've been team PlayStation since the early days. The arrival of my PS4 was such a disappointment. Many of the great features that made PS3 such an ultimate entertainment console were gone - I have 4 PS3 units that I use throughout my home in a DLNA environment for music, movies and photos. I can't even get the PS4 to play a common CD. It's said the Sony was only focusing on a game console only concept when designing the PS4. I wish I had known that, I would have waited cause I'm not impresse.

Sony should take a look at Xbox's dashboard. The PS4 is fine but difficult to navigate. You aren't notified when friends log on. Doesn't come with a manual.

I got the system at midnight release and set up the system. It took a little time to get update going, server issue not system. The new controller is a better fit in your hands, trigger buttons are easier to use. Graphics are awesome. Have AC-Black Flag on both PS3 and now PS4; there is a great deal of difference in the quality of graphics and game play. PS4 has it's own area on the PSN so you don't have to filter through PS3/ Vita stuff. The system is quiet and looks great. The GUI is easy to use, battery life on controller is about 14-16 hrs(if you use it straight through) longer if start and stop, downloading in background is unnoticeable. If you don't have a next-gen system in mind, I would buy this over the XBox One because the games look better, system GUI is easier to use and unit is smaller than XBox One. The biggest difference is that the PS4 is 100.00 cheaper and it's made by Sony, NOT Microsoft (Blue screen of death author).

I have owned every Sony console since PS2 and have to say this one is the best yet. Got this on release day and it really exceeded expectations. I was a bit upset there was no backward compatibility with PS3 games however I feel this will far surpass PS3 with graphics and speed in no time. The set up was easy and I was playing games quickly with no hassle. The box does get very hot and the fan tries to cool it down as much as possible but still gets a bit warm. The design is very sleek and compact compared to my Xbox One which is bulky and large. The one thing Sony did not do well with here is the home screen which is nothing like the full integration of Xbox One. It is boring and basically shows a row of boxes with unchangeable background music which is also boring. The game selection is okay but not as good as Xbox yet, but sure it will get better. However graphics are spectacular, Call of Duty and Battlefield are impressive and speed and game play has come a long way. The controller is heavy and a lot better and looks like more is to come since it includes a touchpad. I like the fact you can standby from a game to home screen and save your spot. Multiplayer is about the same but Playstation Plus is a waste of money right now. The free games are horrible and it is a waste of $49. Unless they plan to come out with more capabilities for this, I would not purchase a membership. Between the two consoles, Xbox now having Blu Ray, I have to say I have always liked Sony, but I think Xbox has given them some serious competition and it is a matter of time before Microsoft take the helm of the video game wars. For now I like having both for exclusive content.

Christmas morning our son was VERY disappointed when he hooked up his new PS4, only to find it would not do anything. Blue light on console would only flash, and then eventually power down. Upon further research, it appears that we were one of the unfortunate ones who received a console with the "blue light of death". Urg!
