Customers are saying
Customers express satisfaction with the PlayStation 4's impressive graphics, enjoyable controller, and ease of use. Many also praise its performance and find it to be a good value for the price. However, some customers point out the lack of backwards compatibility with previous PlayStation consoles and disappointingly short battery life of the controller. The absence of a bundled camera was also noted as a drawback by some users.

HATE IT

Christmas came early
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Still too early to tell if this system will be amazing in the long run but in the short term I am satisfied with the purchase. I have been playing Battlefield 4 which runs quite smooth and looks stunning. The new controller feels very natural for an FPS which is a remarkable improvement on previous Playstation's controllers. The drive space on the surface appears to be a lot but in reality it is just good enough (but could have been better). Each game will likely be somewhere between 35 and 40gb and a download only will maybe top out at 1gb which could leave you with as little as few as 15 games on your console at a time. If you had a PS3 you might remember how irritating the fan sounds were. It was like living with a robot that sighed every time you put Netflix on. The PS4 is an incredibly quiet machine which minimizes the background noise. The PS4 is packaged with everything you need. An HDMI cable (don't get suckered into buying a "better" one). A controller and usb cord, a power cord, and a mono headset (please replace that thing). In fact you can reuse all or the majority of your PS3 cords.

Broken within the week

Greatness Awaits No Longer!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is seriously the best console I have ever played. It feels very refined and all the details to the design and usability seem to be planned out and thought out extremely well. It's remarkable how thin the first iteration of the PS4 is...I can't imagine how much smaller and better designed the slim version will be in a few years! The $399 is just right for a launch console, considering inflation and how new launch consoles used to be $299 back before PS3 days. When I set up mine just an hour after midnight, it had the blinking blue light as it was restarting from updating to the day-one 1.50 firmware update, and there was no signal to my tv. I was very scared as I heard about this issue, mostly with the units ordered from Amazon. I unplugged the power and then plugged it back in to turn the PS4 back on. It went through safe mode and recovered and has never had any problems since. The interface is so intuitive, smooth, fast, and PRETTY. I can't think of anything that's wrong with it and I'm excited as how the PS4 experience will continue to evolve over the years. If PS3 was any evidence and sign of how Sony supports their platforms in making it better and better through updates, then the PS4 is in for a beautiful ride.

Better Experience then the competition
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After having a frustrating Xbox One with Tomb Raider freezing and locking up on me, Need for speed: Rivals button input not working, TV IN was freezing, and a Kinect camera that hardly ever worked...I went with PlayStation 4. I'm going to try to make this quick; I'm sure many people already said what I would say here but I just wanted to point out that the PS4 is a great system and I feel like its an all around gaming console that suit my needs. The Good: - The Controller itself is so much better in the hand then the PS3 controller. I am finally in love with the way PlayStation controller feels in the hand. Sony have got it down right with that one. - Some new things like the speaker on the controller is great. - I like having a normal headphone jack on the controller so I can use any headphones. - Games looks beautiful and I'm a PC gamer but I have to give credit where its due I'm pretty impressed that the PS3 can hold its own. - VERY SPEEDY UI compared to the Playstation 3. This is what I like to see from Sony. - Cross Game Chat. - Playstation + is a vastly superior service. I can't believe I never payed for it before. But after having XBL for so long I was not expecting that kind of value of free games. - Cheaper then the Xbox One. I know that might not seem that big of a deal but I was able to get a game and PS+ for 3 months for under the $500 I spent on the Xbox One. That to me is something great. - Free-to-play games. even if you just buy the system, you will have something to play. The bad: - It is missing some apps that's on PSN for PS3 like you-tube but that doesn't take away from the experience. - No DLNA just like the Xbox One. - No USB ext HDD support. This is needed with games reaching 30-40 GBs - Cheap Headset microphone. I'm glad they give you one but you are better off using something else and fast. Overall I'm having a better time with it then I did with the Xbox One. no problems and no issues.

Amazing!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall it's incredible, it's smooth slick and over all a great consol, it seems more user friendly this time around... Sure the games at launch are lacking and nothing really shows off it's true potential(except kill zone from what I have heard) over all it's an incredible piece of machinery... I don't get why so many people hate on it. Sure some people got some bad ones but shouldn't go all crazy over that. Especially those who don't own one or haven't even played/used it. Personally I've always enjoyed my xbox 360 since it's release over the ps3 and have to say this time around sony seems to finally be heading in the right direction. I'm not a fan boy of either sony or Microsoft , I just enjoy good games and services and I hope everything runs smoothly for Sony this year, same for the xbox one cause I'm looking forward to it.. Sure it will take time but I'm sure if will be worth it. People will always be bias regardless of what they say, so if you're interested in one try it out and see for yourself, don't always trust comments especially when 70% of people are fabnboys of one or the other. Try both and go off of that in the end it's about preference and what you enjoy the most not what others think.

Sony delivers as always
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great system, even straight out of the launch date. I had a couple minor bugs when i first turned it on, but somehow they pretty much ironed themselves out before the 1.51 update. This newer update made the system even more stable already. The new xmb/user menus are a great improvement and easy to navigate. Fast switching between games, menus, messaging, and other things are awesome. The controller feels great as its an improvement on the design and ergonomics from the previous Dualshocks. I do miss the start/select button, but the share/options is easy to get used to. The controller has a speaker that some games use and a slot for your ear piece. The only complaints i have here is the controller doesnt stay charged as long as the dualshock 3's on ps3...and if you try to turn the controller off when watching Netflix, it always pauses whatever is on. ONLY in Netflix. Hulu, Amazon, and Vudu allow you to turn off the controller with no issues. So i guess this is a Netflix issue, not PS4. As for games, the biggest graphical improvement over PS3 i've seen is in Battlefield 4. Wow! thats all i can say. The graphics and smoothness are amazing and will only get better with time on future games.

Awesome Console
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I know a lot of people complain console gaming is inferior to pc and blah blah. But if you're like me and just want a dedicated gaming console (that doesn't cost $1500 at least to build like a game rig pc) then the ps4 is top notch. Can use as a media machine with new update (I play downloaded movies and music on it no problem). Not to mention of course better graphics at nearly every game than the Xone. The controller is spectacular, size of the machine is nice too. Can't go wrong.

Surpassed my expectations
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PS4 has surpassed my every expectation. It is gorgeous to look at, with a sleek and stealthy profile. Pictures don't communicate how slim this thing actually is. It's remarkably quiet when gaming, and doesn't get as hot as my PS3. The game graphics are incredible, as is frame rate, games play very smoothly. Detail is rendered out far and with incredible detail. The controller is redesigned, and is very nice. It is more substantial in my hands than the PS3 controller, and the improvements to button, stick, and trigger feel/stickiness are welcome. The built-in mini speaker on the controller was a nice surprise and works very well in the games where it is used. The built-in light bar is also surprisingly effective. Only tested it with the included/preloaded Playroom game app, but wow, what a cool proof-of-concept. You have to see it to believe it. Set-up took all of about 5 minutes. Thankfully, the PS4 comes with an HDMI cable (finally!). Set up is simple. I have not had any problems with the unit or games so far, nothing like what I have read online about bricked units, overheating, or sketchy cable connections. So far, I'm a very happy gamer. A definite MUST BUY.

The system to own for the 8th generation of consol
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a long weekend with the PS4, I can safely say the PS4 is a vast improvement on its predecessor console, the PS3. The main menu comes up immediately when switching out of a game, as opposed to a laggy interface in-game with the PS3. Navigation through all options is smooth and simple. Playing Killzone for several hours straight did not cause any problems, and the system did not noticeably become louder, unlike the PS3. In short, the UI is silky smooth. The Dualshock 4 is comfortable and works well. The controller also has an internal speaker, with surprisingly good quality audio. The touchpad is responsive and I look forward to seeing how developers use it. My gripes with the system as it is now is while the UI contains a good mixture of the XMB and slides, the management of individual save files is buried in the Settings menu. Also, I don't know how the system will handle a larger downloaded game library. With the PS3, your entire game library is viewable from the XMB. This may become a problem for PS4 as the library grows and PS+ Instant Game Collection becomes more prevalent for PS4. In short, I would give the system a 4.6 as it is now. Sony can always make improvements to the UI itself, and it certainly helps that the PS4 is the most powerful console on the market and runs multiplatform games better than its competitors. If you get one console this generation, I strongly recommend PS4.

Excellent! But for now, strictly for Gamers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. All in all it's an awesome machine, however it comes with a couple of flaws if you've owned or currently own a PS3. The PS4 you can tell is a strictly-for-gaming machine. The new UI is easy to navigate through, centered around your games and updates of games that you or your friends have played, and it's fast. When I say fast I mean that if you're in the middle of a game and press the PS button, you're back to the UI instantaneously. and can navigate through it and do anything you please without stopping the game (unless of course you choose to play another game). Then press the button again and you are right back where you left off in your game - again, instantaneously. Also installing games (like Killzone 4 for example), took me literally 35 secs, and it was ready. Afterwards I experienced no loading times whatsoever. And to start the game took all of 5 seconds to get to the game menu from the UI. So yeah, it's fast. Now the bad part. As an entertainment machine, the PS3 does more. There are no personal themes for your UI anymore, and the whole media server option is gone completely. Meaning you can no longer plug in that separate hard drive/ flash drive and play your own movies, music, or pictures from it. Also the ability to be a wireless media server has been taken as well. I've also heard a rumor that it cannot play 3D blu-rays anymore, but I have not tested this out myself. With that said, hopefully these aspects are included later in firmware updates, just like they were for PS3. At launch the PS3 couldn't do everything it can now - it evolved. And Sony has already said that the PS4 will evolve massively, so my hopes are high. The last piece of advice I would give a PS4 owner is do the update immediately. The system runs ALOT smoother after it's done. But other than that, the games are excellent, the visuals are incredible, the controller is AMAZING, and the machine itself is gorgeous (and QUIET!) It's truly a work of art and a sleek piece to add to any living room or bedroom. I highly recommend it to any gamer. But I also highly recommend hanging on to your PS3

Great upgrade from PS3
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm big into gaming so I preordered this system to make sure I would get it close to launch. System is very easy to set up. Each game has to install on the hard drive, which is 500 GB, but since some games can run upwards of 50 gigs, the hard drive will fill up pretty quickly. Great thing is you can upgrade the hard drive, and it doesn't have to be a Sony-specific drive. The games install pretty quickly and parts of the game can be played while it's installing. I've played NBA 2K14, Battlefield 4 and Killzone Shadow Fall. They all look great on the system. But you won't see jaw-dropping titles until later in the system's life cycle. If you're a gaming fan, this system is great, especially at the price.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wasn't really sure what to expect from a new platform. This new one hasn't been super impressive. The mike they give u is extremely poor and sony doesn't offer chat cable for aftermarket headphones. PSN crashed due to over usage, really u guys at sony couldn't figure out that u would have increased traffic. Poor planning. Not a large game selection either, but it's new. Will have to see what the future offers.

Superb Home Entertainment Console
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Playstation 4 is a gaming console with the gadgets. It is quite literally multiple machines in one allowing you to play the most advanced video games, watch the highest resolution blu-ray movies, and stream video from a multitude of services seamlessly. While the Playstation is more than capable of using the above features and more, my reason for purchasing one is first and foremost the actual gaming experience. Sony has once again delivered topping all my experiences with the Xbox. The most important factors for a great gaming console are graphics capabilities, game selection, storage space for data, and customer service. As for the graphics, you need only play five minutes and it is obvious they are superior to any system ever constructed. Environments are life like and you genuinely feel you are in the game. Almost all newly released consoles have the problem of a limited availability of games during the first launch year. This is still true even for the new Playstation so your immediate gaming options will be limited, but if we look at the Playstation 3’s timeline Sony managed to turn this around fairly quickly and I anticipate the same trajectory for the Plastation 4. The storage space is ample, but not more than its competitor the Xbox so it is no crucial variable to your decision. Finally the customer service is increasingly important in all aspects of purchases these days. Sony has made significant strides in improving its customer service over the last decade. There is surely more work that can be done, but I am not the customer who will hold it against them. You will not be disappointed in choosing this technologically superior product.

Excellent System with just a few flaws...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me preface this with the fact that I am a diehard Sony Playstation fan since the first Playstation was released. I am also a huge sony fan in general so when I say it's the best of the three next gen systems you can see a little bias but what fan isn't. The system itself is beautiful with a sleek design that's a sight to behold. Suffice it to say that I was amazed that it was smaller than my PS3 slim. The new Dual Shock 4 controller is an amazing improvement on the dual shock 3. It's bigger, more form fitting to the hands, much improved triggers and analog sticks and the touchpad is a nifty feature that I hope is well utilized in the future. The system's new operating system is lightning fast no noticeable delays like the PS3. The games look incredible and haven't shown the frame rate issues from the PS3. Enjoy the new features like sharing built into the system and improvements to the PS store and second screen. That being said I do have some minor gripes. Elimination of the multimedia abilities that were available in the PS3 are disappointing. Sony claimed this is a future proof system but not having wireless AC built in is a letdown considering how much they are pushing online capabilities. Also No 4K game support in the future is a letdown. My biggest issue is the Hard Drive. 500GB may seem like a lot but given the system data file leave only 409 available and the fact that all the games require installation files that can be huge means that 400GB will go fast. Considering Sony's push to digital downloads over BD games this smallish hard drive and current lack of support for external drives mean capacity issues will arise sooner than later. Sony has made the HD upgradable but currently physical size restrictions of HDs means we won't see 2TB and up drives that can fit in the PS4 till down the line. Short comings aside the PS4 is still a remarkable piece of equipment and I highly recommend it to all Gamers out there.

Pretty much JUST a gaming system!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned a PS1, 2xPS2 and 2xPS3, so for me, purchasing a PS4 was a no brainer. I pre-ordered the PS4 6 months ago and picked it up last week. Here are my thoughts so far: The Controller: A fantastic step forward. Love the added functionality, the sound capability, the variable vibration function, the smooth button technology, the touchpad. Sony hit a home run with the controller. The Playstation 4: Out of the box, it is a sleek, well designed looking piece of kit. Personally, I think it looks better than the PS3 does, and I liked the design of it! It was very easy to set up and get up and running. The inevitable software update was done fairly quickly (before the PSN went down - also had a backup on USB as well). The new user interface is pretty intuitive for the most part, so navigating to games and setting up Netflix was a breeze. However, I have been looking into more of the features, or lack of features, and find that the Bluetooth media remotes that were used on PS3's are not compatible at all with the PS4. This system is in my living room, therefore is my 'defacto' BluRay player, so having the remote is very useful to me. That was very disappointing to find out, and Sony doesn't have a bespoke PS4 media remote as yet. I have also found out that the PS4 is not 3D BluRay compatible either. That again is something that I was interested in. I have a 3D television and purchase 3D BluRays. Hopefully in the future, just like with the PS3, there will be a software update to address these issues. The PS3 was originally unable to play 3D BluRays, and that functionality was opened up as a software update. I like the progression of the Playstation development as a gaming system, but I think that leaving out some of these key things that people are 'used to' from a previous version of the system is short sighted by Sony.

Enjoying the PS4!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the PS1, PS2, PS3 and now PS4 all at launch. The PS4 is a sleek little box and makes the PS3 that sits right above it in my media rack look huge by comparison. The system is near silent in operation (except when initially spinning up a disk to load), the DualShock4 controller is head and heels above the old DS3 (triggers, grips, analog sticks, weight, etc are all improved), and the system is fast! The graphics are good so far from the games I have (AC4, KZ:SF, NFS:R), but not a gigantic leap above what PS3 is currently capable of in it's mature life cycle. Yes, the textures and lighting are better, but everything else is not the huge leap it potentially will be down the line. These are just the launch games, afterall. The graphical leap from last gen to next-gen will become greater with time. Overall, I'm really enjoying my PS4 experience. The share functionality is great! I've been sharing screenshots and videos (in HD!) uploaded to facebook with ease. So far so good, PS4!

Amazing console
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned them all. Sure ps4 has weaknesses such as when the network went down the other week I could not play a single game or watch anything it was useless! But when it works it's smooth, great graphics, in 2.5years has never over heated, quiet and unlike other gaming systems I feel Sony just wanted to make a great gaming system where my other systems you have a feeling they wouldn't do it if it won't for the $.
