Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the PlayStation 4's impressive graphics, enjoyable controller, and ease of use. Many also praise its performance and find it to be a good value for the price. However, some customers point out the lack of backwards compatibility with previous PlayStation consoles and disappointingly short battery life of the controller. The absence of a bundled camera was also noted as a drawback by some users.

    Truly a next gen console

I've had every PlayStation and I'm happy to say the PS4 does not disappoint. Don't even think about getting an xbox. The PS4 is refined and solid. Connectivity to other devices is easy, game play is smooth, and all-time chat is so sweet. The fan never gets too loud and the new controller is awesome. Great blu-ray player as well!

    Best Console Choice

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

In my opinion the Playstation 4 is the way to go for any gamer out there. This is coming from somebody who has owned multiple playstation and xbox products so this isn't a fanboy review like most of the lower rating reviews on here. Many of the main points why the PS4 is a better console for this generation: The hardware is much more powerful then Xbox1. Which means developers can make better games on the console compared to Xbox1. Better lighting, graphics, etc. Below is a comment from a 3rd party studio Ubisoft speaking out about the power of the PS4. In case you didn't know Assassins Creed is coming out on both Xbox1 and PS4. http://gamingbolt.com/ubisoft-explains-ps4-version-of-assassins-creed-4-will-have-superior-waves-and-wind-simulation $100 dollars cheaper than Xbox1. Who doesn't like that?? The reason Xbox1 is $100 more is because it comes with a kinect. In my opinion from owning one, Kinect is super overrated and xbox has yet to release a decent game for it. Playstation 4 has showed the best exclusives so far. Infamous, The Order (Developers from God Of War), Ratchet & Clank, Killzone. These aren't even counting the 1st party exclusives that haven't been announced yet like Naughty Dog, who just released The Last of Us. Best game of this generation. Not just my opinion... look at any review. Xbox1 really has only announced Halo and Forza so far. So those are my three main points. I'm not sure if their that big for you, but I'm a gamer and that's what I look for when choosing a console. And to me Playstation has an amazing track record starting with the first playstation. They make reliable consoles that have great games. That's all gamers want. There are a few more reasons why I beleive PS4 is the best choice but just check it out and decide yourself! www.ign.com, www.gametrailers.com, www.gamespot.com, www.n4g.com And once again, if any of this sounded fanboyish, do not be alarmed. I own a PS3 and Xbox 360.

    Loving The PS4

    Posted .

I am totally loving my day one PS4 (which I stood in line for at Best Buy). The machine is super thin and quiet. The price was perfect for what you're getting. It was extremely easy set up - literally a plug and play device. The social features are a great touch (you can share most any game clip you want) as well as live stream your games as you play. The standby mode is very nice, so you don't have to shut it all the way down. PSN was down for the first 24 hours and went down for about 20 minutes another time. Since we're now paying to play online, I expect 0% downtime. I am chalking up the downtime to the PS4 being so brand new. You do get a number of decent to great free games each month as well through PSN. Also, games like Call of Duty: Ghosts play in full 1080p, unlike that other machine (*cough* Xbox One *cough*) which plays at 720. The apps are great, as I stream Netflix and Amazon Instant right to the TV.

    Great system

Other than the few missing features from PS3 they should have been carried over to this system the system is great! Played with the remote connectivity on my PS Vita, which was a lot of fun and really cool concept. Excited to see how far they can push that with Gaikai. UI is very easy to navigate and visually stimulating. Graphics are top notch, and games are filled with beautiful vibrant colors. The social aspect of the system is exciting to. I've seen a lot of bad reviews due to system failures, and I just want to mention that the bad reviews are flooding the reviews making it seem the PS4 has a high fail rate. Out of the 1 million+ PS4 sales less than 1% have been defected units, that's only 10 thousand units. That might seem like a lot, but to put it in perspective xbox 360 had a 55% defect rate for 3 years, PS3 was at a 35% defect rate for the first few years as well. 1% is amazing numbers considering the past.

    Welcome to the next generation

The PS4 is a beautiful, fairly compact console. It boots up quickly and runs very quietly. The new UI is functional and very responsive. Clearly multimedia was. Of at the forefront of the designers' minds since the UI neither has a place to access audio, video, nor pictures and the console doesn't support MP3, CDs, or have DLNA support currently. Sony says they will be adding many of these features in the near future. The Dualshock 4 is one of the best controllers in existence. The Share feature works great for live streaming gameplay. If you want to capture a screenshot or video of your last bit of game play, it also works well. It is just too bad that sharing those is currently limited to Twitter and Facebook since many of us would also prefer YouTube and G+ as sharing options. Overall, it is a great console, BF4 and the surprising Knack look great and play extremely well. Greatness has arrived!

I had a bad experience with my purchase. I received the Playstation and first off it didn't even work and then when I took it into the store it turned into a major hassle to get a replacement. And on top I that I used my one replacement on a system I didn't even have a chance to play before it broke. To say the least I am a very unsatified customer.

The set up for the PS4 was easy. The console is tiny. The new Dualshock4 is a huge improvement over the Dualshock3. The new User Interface looks good. The games look great in 1080p, especially Killzone4. Get Playstaion Plus. I was able to get 5 free games!

    Time for Next-Gen

I was skeptical about Next-Gen coming this year but I am impressed at the system Sony has made and I'm glad I upgraded. The UI is a welcome change. It takes some getting use to. You can control the UI with a smartphone which is nice when you don't want to use a controller to watch netflix or whatever. Remote play to the Vita works flawlessly. I have streamed FIFA, Battlefield, and AC4 with no issues. You can even use the Vita as a controller. The controller is much improved. Games amazing great. Installing the game is quick and easy. The share button is pretty cool uploading clips takes seconds. You can broadcast your gameplay or watch others play which is actually a lot of fun. The available indie games are great. Next-Gen consoles are here. There is a lot of nice improvements and things you wish your PS3 could do the PS4 can.

Nice update for the next generation

Sony has unleashed their newest addition to the console wars. May I say that it is a nice addition. The PS4 has a nice sleek design and is not too big. The setup is simple. The Home Screen is similar to the PS3, but different enough to where I like it better. There are not as many options that you have to scroll across. It loads fast no matter what you are doing on it. It is easier to navigate. It's not too loud when running, but is not as quiet as the Xbox One. Of course that is being a little nit-picky because you don't notice it while playing a game or watching a movie. There are several Apps available early on. You have your Netflix and Hulu Plus. Hopefully they do better in that department than PS3. That was and still is limited in that area. The controller is great. They tweaked the design a little bit. For me it is for the better. I like the change on the joysticks(not as bulky this time around) and how they made the hand grips a little more curved and rounded. Not a fan of the light that is constantly on at the top. That thing is big and bright. Hopefully they do more down the road with the motion pad in the middle to make it useful. The games that are out look great. They just do not have much available as far as exclusives. I know it's early, but I was hoping for a several to choose from like Microsoft had. It didn't help that there were some game delays either. The price is not bad. At the last minute they decided to take the camera out and drop the price $100. Definitely to give them a head start in sales. I wish Microsoft had done the same. The included headset is horrible. It is just an earbud. The majority of gamers that actually chat will be purchasing another headset. Overall it is a great system. I can't wait to see how much better it gets. It's a great time to be a gamer.

    The ultimate gaming system

Right out of the box the Playstation 4 begins to deliver on its legacy. The console is sleek and black with a nice blue line that lights up when you turn it on. I bought three games Knack, Battlefield 4, and Killzone. The games graphics are really good on this system. There is a huge difference between it and the PS3. Right away you know that the hardware is 7 years newer. In addition the new interface is actually really nice, and is a little bit easier to use than its predecessor in my opinion. The biggest difference in the new system however from a players perspective might just be the new controller. It is absolutely terrific. The new controller is much more comfortable on the hands, and allows first person shooters to feel more like triggers on the R2 and L2 buttons. It is absolutely fantastic.

I am a playstation player and upgraded from the ps3. I initially purchased Madden, Fifa, and COD. I am a fan of this year's madden and this game runs smoother and faster than it's ps3 counterpart. Fifa is a little different in that the detail in which the players interact with the ball and each other are cleaner and crisper. COD is off the chain. Setup was easy, but lengthy with some updates to the system and to the games. Once everything is setup then going into games and from game to game is much faster than the ps3. I like the new interface and the new features with the activity updates. Also I like being able to see all PSN friends and not just ps4 players. I cannot wait for the game developers to unleash the power of this machine.

I spent 7 hours in line on Launch day 11/15 and when I shipped it to my son to open while visiting his dad in California it was defective. Best Buy doesn't have any in stock to even replace it. I couldn't be more disappointed. I don't know when my 14 year old will get his Christmas present.

Gaming Machine Built For Gamers Hardcore/Casual

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Pros: PS4!! Launch at a price in which we all can agree on, which is 399.99= 435 with tax. Used games is obviously not an issue here since you will not be restricted in anyway that the PS3 is not doing right now. Most powerful machine and at a reasonable price. They kept the basic of the machine and made it better. Simple rule which they followed. ( Do not fix what is not broken) The machine is built with us the customers/ consumers in mind and prove to us they remembered there mistakes with the PS3. Leading system in exclusive titles (will get to that in the CONS section). Not an always online system, give you the flexibility to travel with it where ever you go. Not region locked. Your PS Plus carries over to the PS4 and you also get Driver Club free by being a PSN Plus Member at launch of PS4 plus all the perks you getting on PS3 now. Not tied down or force into a PS Plus Subscribe to access other feature of the system like (Auto update,Netflix, Video, Music Unlimited etc), the list of Pros goes on and on. Cons: Require PS Plus to play games online. (reason for that is quite simple, by us having the PS Plus service all we really doing is securing a better service to stream PS3 titles from Gaikai’s to our lovely PS4 Machines), and a better online play as well. Does not have enough exclusive titles early on or after launch, but always dominate the board in that area. So no one need to panic.

Great System with only a few drawbacks

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

After two months of use I can say that the PS4 is a great machine and will only improve as more games and updates are released. It runs incredibly cool and quiet compared to the PS3 and the new user interface is fast and simple. I love the ability to suspend a game, go to the menu and back to the game without any delay. The live streaming feature is a great way to either share what you are playing, or watch other people play a game. An added benefit of watching other people play games is that it makes it easier to decide if you want to purchase the game for yourself or not. There are a few drawbacks right now but I imagine they will be addressed in the future. Naturally there are not many games available for it yet, so don't expect a huge library at launch. There is also a lack of media support that makes it a step below the PS3 in functionality. There is currently no DNLA support for playing your digital movie, music or photo collection from your PC/Server. That's one reason why I haven't disconnected my PS3 yet. Hopefully Sony adds that feature in the near future. Overall, I've been happy with my purchase and it will only get better from here.

So far I've really loved my purchase. The system is sleek looking and very quiet. The new UI is fast and easy to navigate, even adding voice control with any PS4 compatible headset or the new PS4 camera. Being able to do things like charge devices while in standby and using your Playstation Vita as a second controller on most games is also a major plus that was missing with the PS3. If you own a PlayStation Vita already it makes for a great companion with the PS4. Don't let yourself miss out on the PS4, even if you decide to wait a little bit.

    Simple Facts

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Before I get started I want to mention that I have owned a PS3 and and Xbox 360. Now, I see a lot of PS haters on here making poor claims as to why their beloved Xbox One is superior. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and thats fine. Here is where things get awry... The last time I checked, gaming consoles were used for, well, gaming! I see lots of complaints about the lack of apps. If you want apps, buy a darn smartphone, or a tablet, or a laptop...simple. Another complaint is that nothing has really changed for the PS4. Ok, I'm a bit confused...PS4 has improved in every aspect a gamer could ask for, graphics, RAM, speed, hard drive space, oh and game streaming. Now where they haven't improved is that you can't want TV on it...WHO THE F CARES?!?!?! That is what your cable company is for. Those of you that want to use your gaming console to watch Tv on, you are spending $500 on a low end Blu-Ray player if you buy the Xbox One. However, if you purchase the PS4 you are spending $400 on a very high quality Blu-Ray player that is also imprving your gaming experience. Simple facts here kids, don't let your bias prevent you from an increased gaming experience. :)

I love my PS4! Great look and design. Not bulky at all, easy to set up, no power brick like my brother's 360. I've played Killzone Shadow Fall and Fifa 14. Killzone is just gorgeous. Amazing graphics plus a fun and dynamic online gameplay. Fifa is my favorite, but only because I'm a soccer nut! I can definitely feel and see the difference from the PS3 version, much more realistic. The controller is probably the biggest improvement. It feels great in the hands and no battery pack. The triggers are much improved and the touchpad is a nice touch (no pun intended). I would give it a 9.5/10, only because no camera like the xbone. This is a must buy this holiday season.

The Playstation 4 is a great system! It's very easy set up it only takes a few moments once the update has been installed and then you are ready to install your games and play. Compared to the Xbox One The setup is quicker and a lot easier for beginners, The system load times are much quicker, The graphics comparison is far superior. The only issue I have with the console is the controller battery life, I have to charge it everyday it seems as if the battery life is only about 8 hours. This may seem like a lot but I am comparing the battery life to my PS3 controller which was far better and lasted me about 3-4 days worth of playing before having to charge.
