Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the PlayStation 4's impressive graphics, enjoyable controller, and ease of use. Many also praise its performance and find it to be a good value for the price. However, some customers point out the lack of backwards compatibility with previous PlayStation consoles and disappointingly short battery life of the controller. The absence of a bundled camera was also noted as a drawback by some users.

Great Product, Could use some work

Setup Setup was overall easy with the ps4 being overall light and compact. The overall look of the PS4 is sharp and pleasing to the eyes. The system needed an immediate update when starting for the first time. Connecting to your home WI-fi or Ethernet took little to no effort. The update was also quick and simple. Dash Board The dash board on the ps4 didn't really seem to have much pop to it. The background as far as I know is not able to be changed. All of the apps are easy to get to and are organized extremely well. switching between apps happens quickly with little to no waiting. If you get the play station camera the camera can be set up to recognize your face when it turns on to automatically sign you in. Controller Sony has done an amazing job with the controller. Not only does it feel great in your hands, you can plug in any standard headphones into the controller and the sound will go through your headphones instead of the tv (Xbox One requires a specific headset) . Compared to the Ps3 the Ps4 controller seems to feel right at home in your hands. Your fingers wrap around the back of the controller and settles right in. There is also a small speaker on the controller that adds some dynamic to game play. If you have multiple controllers the controller can be linked to a persons account. So if you and your friend are both playing on the same ps4, if he presses the "PS" button it will go to his home screen and vice versa if you press it. The controllers also have a nice led light that interacts with games. In kill zone for example when your health is low the led will change in color to reflect low health. Not sure how useful that is since you would have to look on the front of the controller to see it, but it seems like a nice function. Their is no longer a "start" or "select" button they have been replaced with "share" and "option". This takes a little getting use to, but after a few uses it becomes as natural as the ps3 controller. The controller also has a nice touch pad on the top of the controller. Its a useful function to have as it adds to the game. Kill zone uses this function to send out your drone in game. -You Are able to link any Bluetooth keyboard to the PS4 has well. This helps with inputting keys. The keyboard can also be used to navigate the home screen if you would like. When the keyboard is detected it will ask which user is using the device so it will know whose profile to let the keyboard control. If your TV has "CEC" capability you will be able to use your TV remote to control your ps4. So no extra Bluetooth remote will be necessary to pause and play movies. With the CEC function the PS4 will turn on your TV and audio reviver when the system is turned on. So you could literally just grab the Sony controller press the PS button and be ready to go. This function has came in handy plenty of times and is easy to set up. Video Playback The PS4 does NOT support 3D Blu-ray at this time. I believe Sony does plan to release an update in the future to allow this. Playing blu rays is not any different than the ps3. However when you press the "PS" while watching a blu ray, it will force you to close the blu-ray app in order to view your home screen. When exiting the movie it takes about 10 seconds to load your home screen. When resuming the movie it takes about another 10 seconds to load back. When you exit the blu ray the movie will start over This is really annoying and im hoping Sony fixes this with the next updates. I've checked the settings and have not found any that fix this problem. The quality of the movies however are outstanding and is by far one of the best blu-ray players i have seen. Including the Sony version that upscale to 4k resolution. Keep in mind all of these negatives can be fixed with a simple firmware update. Gameplay Every game must be installed before playing the game. This can take an average of 5-15min. Most games can be played while installing but not all of the features will be available and the graphics may not look as good. I recommend while the game is installing take advantage of the live stream function and watch other people play the game. One of the new features of the PS4 is being able to pause game play to do things in your dashboard and immediately resume playing your game when you are done. I believe this feature could use some work. If you have a game downloaded from the store and want to take a break to watch a blu ray you have to close the game application in order to watch the movie.(The game WILL resume where you left off) You can use pretty much any other app while playing a game withoutt being asked to close the app as long as it is not another game. If you do play another game the game will start over. Some of the games are more interactive than last gen. The ps4 utilizes the speaker in the controller which adds a little more dynamics to the game play. Load times are also noticeable faster than that of the Xbox one. While playing any game the PS4 is constantly recording your game play. If you do something you like during the game play, with a a push of the "share" button the ps4 will upload and save that moment for you. This works for screenshots as well. Keep in mind that the quality of the video is not all that great. You can also broadcast live game play for other people to watch if you want as well. Graphics Graphics are pretty well close to current 1080p PC specs. There is more depth than last gen consoles and things in the background do not look like bulky blocks. PC gamers will appreciate that. Games like kill zone really demonstrates this within the first few minutes of playing the campaign mode. I did notice a difference in the way the game looks depending on the TV that was used. PS4 absolutely blows the last gen graphics out of the water. The video capture mode built in the ps4 really does not due the games justice. Games run natively at 1080p which is a nice plus if you are going to be sitting close to the screen. If not you really wont notice the difference between that and the 720p Xbox one version of games. As for as gaming in 4k. The PS4 does not have the horsepower to push 4k graphics neither does the Xbox one. Playing 4k movies is a different story and could be supported in the future. Upgradeability This is were Sony takes Microsoft to the slaughter house. The hardrive in the PS4 can be upgraded to a larger after market drive. As long as the drive fits in the bay (2.5") you can use it. And Sony has stated that doing so WILL NOT void your warranty unlike the xbox one. You could even opt to put in a SSD in your PS4 to see a increase in load times. Increasing your drive to a few terabytes is an easy upgrade that can be done in a few minutes. If you guys have any questions about the PS4 or want to see some comparison of the PS4 and X1 let me know and I will knock it out for ya. My Specs- TV- Sony 65XBR850 TV as well as Samsung 55" 6000 series tv for testing. Receiver- Pioneer VSX-1123

    Best Gaming Console Out Today!!

The PS4 Is by far the best console on the market today. The launch titles are great, the graphics are awesome and the internal hardware is insanely good and is on par with a mid to high end gaming computer. The system looks great and it is very reasonably priced. The new controller is very comfortable as well. If you are planning to get a lot of games it might be recommended to get a bigger hard drive because the games take up a lot of space. Overall it is a great system and I would recommend it to any gamer that wants the best system on the market, with the best launch titles, the best hardware and great accessories that enhance the system even more.

    Next gen console is here!!!

Next gen is here. PS4/XBOX1, take your pick, you can't go wrong. If I had enough money, I'd get both. More games to play. PS4 is smaller than the original PS3. New controller is comfortable and improved over dualshock 3. I just need some food to feed this beast. Too early in the cycle to say we have seen all this machine can do. No issues so far. System update was a cinch. If you have slow internet connection, might be a problem. I have basic cable internet and no lag. PSN works without any issues. Don't blame machine on your ignorance/impatience. I've had no problems discussed on some blogs/forums. Hope this helps anyone looking into getting a PS4.

First playstation I've ever owned as my primary console. I've always been an Xbox guy and owned a PS2 but almost never played it. Wasn't thrilled with some moves MS was making so decided to switch this time around. The controller is much improved and very ergonomical. I love how slim and compact this console is- takes up a very small space and theres no power brick. Very impressive. Also, sitting a few feet away from it when in operation, I usually can't hear it. Compare that with the Xbox consoles and its nice to not have to have my volume at a certain level just to drown out the sound of the fan. Only knock- and this is true of any console right when it gets released- is that the game lineup is underwhelming at this point. Give it a few months and there will be more games, and once the developers get more of a handle on the new hardware the games will be a lot more impressive than they are now. I'm looking forward to it. Very pleased with my purchase so far, though. And thats coming from somebody thats never really liked playstation. Good machine.

    Great Graphics

The PS4 is awesome, the graphics are great and games have a much crisper look to them. The downside however, is the hour and a half to do the first setup and the battery life on this controller doesn't last a 3rd of the PS3s battery life, course this one has to glow which is dumb because that drains battery plus the speaker in the controller is a cool feature but it to is draining. All in all its is a good buy but also wish it was backwards capable for PS3 games and the PlayStation Plus on PS4 doesn't have hardly anything on it yet so i couldn't tell that my subscription was even active with the exception that i could play online.

Your better off sticking with the ps3, I keep getter an error that says requires PSN plus after I paid for it on release day. I have to keep trying over an over to get it to go online. Not worth the money when the ps3 plays the same exact games.

    Why you should get PS4

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My friends are divided into the xbox or the PS4 group. I have the PS3 and 360 and was sure I wanted the PS4 due to many reasons why I disliked 360. Personally, I grew up with PlayStation. I've been open minded on 360, and loved the Gears of War/Halo franchise but the product overall was not the best for me and I knew Xbox One wouldn't be much of a difference. I've tried playing with the Xbox One and PS4 but I found PS4 to be the best so far. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and they can say Xbox One is better. It really depends on the person but if YOU want something amazing, you must get PS4.

    lacking, not Microsoft

Things you need to know Pro:awesome graphics, comfortable controller, comes with HDMI, aesthetically pleasing to the eye, able to trade outthe hard drive, lots of extra apps from PSN. Cons: ghost ejection, mjnd you i just bought mine a year after since its release and the problem still has yet to be permanently fixed, registration for your product on sony website is inoperable so you cant warranty the device without speaking to customer service, No usb flash drive or external drive recognition meaning you are no longer able to transfer files such as movies or games onto the system like you can with the PS3 digital copy or bootleg like. PSNow is now mandatory to purchase if you want to play any games that involve online game play. Yes it is only $50 and you get tons of free stuff but this isnt Microsoft! The lack of game choices are still slim pickings. No usb outlets in the back for accessories to hook into so you have wires protruding from the front. The buttons on the front are to sensitive and glitchy. I personally have a touch of OCD so it bothers me with the exposed wires for hookups in the front. I say hold off until middle of 2015 once some more games are released and new patches are pplied to the system as well as new hcks to enhance the operating system.

    Everything I'd hoped for

I approached the purchase excited, yet very wary. But my wariness soon disappeared, and I grew to love the system in no time at all. But let's start with the negatives... First, not backwards compatible with the games of any previous generations. No PS3 games. BUT... There's a good possibility some of the most popular PS3 games will be made available digitally in the future. The 500GB stock hard drive, easily upgradable. The limited bluetooth functionality, going to be fixed in a firmware update in the not-so-distant future. The ability to promote sub-accounts to master accounts... That's more of a personal issue I've been dealing with. But it's been hinted at recently that they're searching for a solution to that very problem. Other potential negatives include the inability to customize the home screen(will likely be added in the future), and the limited launch-window game lineup... That will solve itself. All very superficial. All fixable or patchable. So what's so great about it? The easy-to replace hard drive. Quickly swaps out for any other HDD with a 2.5" form factor. The streaming/recording capabilities are an incredible addition to the system. It's simple to use, and it's only going to get better from here. And of course, a big step up graphically. Checking out BF4, the visuals are fantastic. Those will also improve with time. Of course, it doesn't match up to a $2-3k gaming PC, but it's a great upgrade from PS3 for 1/10th of the price of a top-of-the-line gaming PC. The redesign and scrapping of the PS3's XMB was a great move by Sony. It does take a little getting used to at first, but within a couple days I knew my way around pretty well. Form factor is great. Prior to launch, I was worried we'd see the next-gen equivalent of the FAT launch PS3. But seeing it in person, it's no bigger than the newer slim PS3. The light-up LED indicator light strip is not only really cool looking, it has a purpose. The power and eject buttons are small and cleverly placed, and almost unnoticeable at first glance. One of my favorite parts about the PS4 is the Dualshock 4. The new controller is fantastic.. The touch interface seems somewhat gimmicky, but only time will tell if it sees some more intuitive integration into future titles. Other than that, I have no negatives. I love the shape, the weight, the improved shock/vibration feature, retained the Sixaxis feature, the redesigned L2/R2 triggers, and the redesigned analog sticks. The DS4 also now uses a Micro-USB cable to charge rather than the DS3's larger Mini-B USB. The reason I like that change is because so many devices out there also use Micro-USB cables. Including some I already own. All together, it's hard for me to not give the PS4 5/5. Perhaps if 99% of the negatives weren't easily fixed/upgraded/patched, it'd bring the score down. But as I said before, the negatives here are all superficial. This is a great console, and it's only going to get better. It's an exciting time to be a PS fan.

Haven't had any issues with my PS4. Everything works great, quiet as a mouse, and easy to get set up. Downloads are 10 times faster than they were on the PS3, controller is also a tremendous upgrade. Launch lineup is a bit thin, but there are a number of quality F2P games which make up some of that difference. Remote play if you have a Vita (which I do) works as good as advertised and really has become a useful feature for me. Don't like that it doesn't sit flush when laid horizontally, but I won't be pushing the console when it's sitting there so not a big deal. Overall I'm very happy with what the system offers!

It's hard to imagine a better replacement for the PS3. The user interface is easier to use and a LOT faster - most things are virtually instantaneous. The controller is also a massive improvement, with better sticks, better buttons and a few new features that are underused at the moment but have a lot of promise. The only thing to be aware of is that the intake vents are on the sides and the exhaust is in the back, so it doesn't do well on entertainment center shelves, even if the front is open. With adequate ventilation, though, it's whisper quiet and about the same temperature as the current PS3 models.

The PlayStation delivered and exceeded my expectations. I have a Samsung flat screen (the recommended TV for gaming)and the graphics portrayed are just jaw-dropping. The PlayStation exclusive games are much better than the Xbox One exclusives. If you want to choose a console, it has to be the PS4; it will offer you way more than Xbox can deliver! Unlike the Xbox One (who brought a modified old controller back and called it 'new') Playstation redesigned the controller, which makes gaming soooooooo much more easier, especially with the new touch pad. The controller is a bit bigger than the ps3 controller, but it feels so right. I went to a friend's house and he had an Xbox One, and I wasn't quite satisfied with it. Plus we kept saying "Xbox turn off" and it would always interupt the game, which can get annoying if you have friends or family that like to do that kind of stuff. Overall, I am very satisfied!

The PlayStation 4 is what you would expect from all the hype. It is super fast with cool features such as the playroom and the graphic are the best I have ever seen. With all that power is is surprisingly quite. Yes you probably heard that there is issues sometimes when first setting up the system mostly server issues but what new games system doesn't have these and know they have most of the issues fixed. I would highly recommend it for anybody who love playing video games. I would also recommend the PlayStation eye because then you can use the playroom app that comes on all the systems.

    Next-Gen is Here

PS4 has set the standard for next-gen consoles arriving this holiday. It's sleek design w/ blue bar makes it something to show off and not hide in the living room. The different color bars on the controllers and the touch pad are subtile but unique and interesting elements that will make the system more user-friendly for softcore gamers. The ability to play used games, the use of cloud gaming libraries, and to not require an online check-in - these announcements prove that for at least this round of gaming systems - PS4 will be the system of choice for most consumers. (As the competition has already began to make drastic changes to match that of the PS4) The initial downsides with the PS4 includes cloud gaming not being ready out-of-the-box, the quality of exclusives at launch, and the overall capabilities of the system's function is not totally clear yet. I would like to see the PS4 match its competitor with an HDMI in (maybe a GoogleTV integration), but at the same time - down we really need another SmarTV OS when TV's are packaged with built-in services, cable/satellite companies have set-top boxes with services, Blu-ray/dvd players come with the service, and there's multiple smart-tv set top boxes for consumers to buy already?

Overall, I can connect and make use with many of my devices for the PS4, graphics are just OVERWHELMING, Its fast and reliable, paying for online is just a bit too much. $18.00 for 3 months ... basically paying $6 a month just to play online, rather pay $5 or better yet for free. Just don't play for OVER 3 HOURS (MAXIMUM) you don't want your PS4 over heating do you? Once again, overall, Its the best that money can buy.

This system is great, It does get hot so leave in a well ventilated area. It loads pretty fast and is lightweight with is a plus for travel. The playstation plus is much improved but still needs to take a few pointers from Xbox live, but it is much more social than the PS network used to be. The controller is way more "form fitting" if you will than the last one. The ps4 is not too much more advanced than the last generation right now but it has the potential and you can see some of the new graphics being tested. This system is still lacking on the amount of apps they have for watching tv: like netflix, hulu plus, etc. Get one if you are really impatient, but if you can wait then you should; for more games. It is an excellent system and has a great interface, but it is at the heat a playstation, which has not changed too much from the last console, for better or for worse. I am definitely glad I saved up and bought this new console.

This is truly a console made for gamers. The UI is very fluid and easy to use. Game installs are super fast and you can start playing after as little as 10 seconds. The controller's battery life is only 6-7 hours but thats enough time for any play. The console will also charge the controller while in stand by mode. Speaking of the controller, its the best controller ive had in my hands. I used to be a long time xbox 360 users and have since switched to PS4 and yeah, this thing is amazing. Ive been playing Battlefield 4 since release and Im loving it.
