Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the PlayStation 4's impressive graphics, enjoyable controller, and ease of use. Many also praise its performance and find it to be a good value for the price. However, some customers point out the lack of backwards compatibility with previous PlayStation consoles and disappointingly short battery life of the controller. The absence of a bundled camera was also noted as a drawback by some users.

    Must have PlayStation

Here is what I like most about the new PS4: (1) Controller is much improved. Fits better in my hands. (2) Better multi-user profile support (3) Graphics can be amazing - NBA 2K14 and Assassin's Creed, for example (4) Improved motion camera (more like kinect now) (5) Navigation menu takes bit of getitng used to, but is overall a better interface. The only negative I've experienced is the heat it can generate. I had it back in a shelf/cabinet and a loud fan had to come on to cool it down. Once I pulled it out into the open, the fan turned off.

    PS4 Delivers.

The PS4 is a great system for gamers. The new UI is super smooth and fast and you can switch from the game you're playing to the PS Store or other various programs and back quickly. There's a new share button on the controllers which lets you upload screenshots/videos of your gaming experience and share with your friends. So far I've picked up Battlefield 4 (it's incredible, though the servers badly need fixing!), NBA2k14 (absolutely amazing, best basketball game I've ever played), and Assassin's Creed IV which is much better than I thought and has a more vibrant, open world this time around. The only thing that I would like to see improved is the battery life on the controllers, they do not go quite as long as the PS3 controllers did, they only seem to last around 8 hours or so before needing a charge. The included headset is also pretty terrible. It's very hard to make out voices over it as there's no adjustable volume controls for it and even when in a party with friends you can choose a setting to give voice chat priority and it does not improve the sound at all.

So I also own the xbox one for reference. This console so far (12/25/2013) is quite a bit more responsive compared to its competitor. UI isn't as sluggish and loads everything faster overall. One app that doesn't perform as well as the xbox one's is the amazon prime video service. Seems a bit slow, but the games so far look amazing in 1080p. Netflix runs great and I just wish I could watch twitch streams and not only ps4 streamers on it (future patch supposed to change this though). So far I am very pleased with my PS4 and would recommend it to any media or gaming enthusiast.

From the pre order process, the whole thing was so easy. No lines, no wrestling, no having to disguise the product so it would not not be stolen from me on my way home! We purchased 3 games: Fifa14, The new Assassins creed (Black flag), and a car pursuit one. All three have tremendous graphics. The console is small, quiet and tastefully designed but as far. As the gaming experience is concerned, we have been thoroughly impressed by the speed of the processor. Quick transitions, realistic movement. Could not be more pleased

Love the PS4, have been a Playstation fan since it's early days. Opted to pre-order the device because like the PS3, who knows if the early PS4s are going to be the best ones. The graphics are really good on the console. If you haven't played video games much, you might or might not be wowed by the graphics. Personally, I can tell they have really made an improvement on the processor and video processor of the system. One thing that the PS family hasn't really been good at is shadows. Shadows still tend have jagged edges, as opposed to its rival, the Xbox family. It doesn't have support for watching TV while playing video games, but seriously, who really needs that kind of support. I don't have a Xbox One, so I can't really compare the voice commands, but it seems that there are a plethora of commands you can use to control the PS4 via voice. The new Dualshock 4 controllers are also very comfortable to hold for hours on end. The one thing (that they will most likely adopt in an update) would be the option to turn off the light on the controller; it isn't ideal in dark conditions. Other than that the PS4 is a great gaming console.

I got my ps4 on launch at midnight with many happy people at my local best buy. Took it home and had it set up in about 10 minutes. everything worked fine and went smoothly. The System updated in minutes, everything was fast and worked well. the controller felt very comfortable, this coming from an xbox player. Next gen games look incredible, especially battlefield 4. all in all the PS4 was well worth the $400 purchase price. it has exceeded my expectations I have recommended it to all my friends and eagerly await to play with them.

Pro: The PlayStation 4 serves up dazzling graphics, runs on a simplified and logical interface, and boasts a fantastic controller. It's also $100 cheaper than rival Xbox One and has the upper hand on indie and day one digital-only offerings. Con: Triple-A titles are lacking at launch, and the PS4 won't come close to matching its predecessor's gaming or software library for months -- or possibly years. PS3 games aren't compatible, though Sony is hinting that its Gaikai game-streaming service will open the door to retro gaming in 2014. The PS4 also has no DLNA compatibility or media playback support which made its predecessor such a great all-around content player.

I have always been pro xbox until I unwrapped this bad boy a week earlier than the xbox one. I think that week really gave sony an advantage! The new dualshock 4 is a great feeling controller, such an upgrade over the dualshock3. The first party titles are a little disappointing but still deliver for launch titles. The graphics are beautiful and the system runs whisper quiet!! Love this console all around!

The PS4 looks odd at first. Its a simplistic geometric design which will instantly remind you of those pink erasers we had as kids (assuming you are an adult like me, but I digress}. The design is so minimilist that just learning how to turn on the machine is a fun puzzle in and of itself. Hint: just to the right of the disc drive are two semi invisible (they blend seamlessly into the system} vertical lines/buttons, one over the other. You dont press these buttons however, you merely run your finger or thumb gently over them (top for power, bottom for eject) and wala, the system comes to life with a almost silent hum. Its a welcome change that the machine operates virtually silent as opposed to the roaring engine of the XBox 360 and noisy drive of the PS3. Its also cool to note that there is no cumbersome power brick. The system simply has a detatachable power cord that plugs into the system and a power outlet. From there is just a matter of plugging the included HDMI cable into the back of the PS4 and your HDTV. For those who have home theater set ups you can purchase a seperate (not included) Optical Audio cable. You then pair your controller (takes seconds) and either sign up for a new PSN account or log in to your existing one and youre off to the races. The necessary online update only takes a few mins over broadband so all in all it should take you around 25 to 30 mins from opening the box to playing whatever PS4 game you've purchased for the system. You can pair your Playstation VITA with the system to stream your PS4 titles to the handheld using wi/fi. Someone wants the tv? No problem, just stream your game to the VITA and continue on anywhere in your house (as long as you have a good router). Taking a trip? As long as you have a solid, strong wi/fi signal you can operate your PS4 with your VITA and play your titles remotely. If a game is designed to use a second screen just use your VITA. The PS4 can also be paired with your mobile device using Sony's free App. I must take this oppurtunity to highly suggest that you invest in Sony's Playstation Plus program. It IS required for online play but not for the update and or playing offline. The value tho is tremendous, with PS+ (a bargain at $49.99 per year or $17.99 every three months) Sony gives you tons of free content every Tuesday. Unlike Microsofts Gaming with Gold which gives only two older titles a month, Sony's selections are not only recent but some great AAA titles. For example December will see PS3 titles like (keep in mind these are full versions not demos) Borderlands 2 and the Grid released for free to PS+ subscribers. Every week sees something great given for free along with tons of discounts and sales. PS+ is a must have in my opinion and it will make your PS4 investment even more satisfying. Right now subscribers get a brilliant shooter called Resogun and a strange puzzle/platformer called Contrast for free on PS4. Plus a great Multiplayer Sci Fi action game called Warframe, which features cool ninja like cyborgs doing battle with the forces of evil. Invest in the PS4 AND PS+ and enjoy this ultra powerful new system, and remember as Devs get more comfortable with the hardware we will see some jaw dropping content coming in the near future.

    Excellent Gaming Console

The PS4 console is a powerhouse gaming machine that will play amazing games in full 1080p HD. In addition, it offers a rich online experience with many apps for streaming movies, music and more, as well as a diverse portfolio of games. In addition to being more powerful than Xbox One, it also allows you to loan and trade your games, buy used games, sell your old games or borrow games from friends, all without online connection. There is no mandatory online connectivity required. But the best news is that this system is the most powerful of the new generation and will deliver gaming experiences unparalleled on other platforms. If you're someone who usually gets two systems, you'd do well to get a Playstation 4 and a Wii U. For a full preview of what the PS4 offers, check out this website: http://wp.me/p26feN-1al

The PS4 has impressed me about as much as I expected after following it since its first debut when Sony announced the PS4. The PS4 is lightning fast and has finally been given the ability to multitask. Its a beautiful thing when I can begin downloading a game and play another while waiting, or I can jump into Netflix and watch a movie until my game is ready to play. The double tap feature has been an awesome addition as well. If you double tap the PS button it takes you to the last thing you were doing. So jumping between a download and Netflix is seamless. The PS4 also looks amazing sitting on an entertainment center. The black matte next to the black gloss is a perfect contrast that draws the eye, not to mention the thin blue/white light going down the middle of the console to tell you its on/loading/standby mode. Finally but not least of all, the Controller has seriously taken the spot light in this release! The feel, the look, its all just perfect. They have truly listened and put a lot of research into a controller that feels and responds beautifully! Some have complained about the light bar glaring into the TV but my TV is wall mounted and therefore doesn't get any glare from the light bar. In my opinion it sucks for those who don't have a wall mounted TV but I don't see this being a complete fail on Sony's part. Now for the negatives. The Menu looks nicer than the PS3 XMB but when it comes to functionality its a mess. Unorganized, and you basically stumble your way through trying to figure where to go. The bright side of this is that Sony can fix this with a patch later on. but it does bring some frustration when navigating. The only other negative I have is the battery life of the controller. I was playing/watching Netflix for maybe 2 hours and the controller had already died/disconnected. Perhaps the light bar drains too much? It would have been nice to see Sony put a disable feature for the lightbar but again not enough to bring this console down!! In conclusion, This is a really well designed console that is worth the sticker price! It far exceeds the PS3 and puts up a great fight against the XBOXOne. If you are ready for a console upgrade look no where else! The PS4 will deliver!

I own a PS3 and the XBOX 360. I decided to get the PS4 solely because I am on my 3rd xbox - and it's currently on the fritz. My PS3 never let me down. So far I am very impressed the the PS4. The graphics are great. Set up was super easy. It's really small compared to my older consoles and it doesn't have one of those stupid power bricks. I was happy to see there were already a few free games available on the Playstation Plus service. Assassin's Creed 4 runs smoothly and looks awesome.

I got the system day one with my in store reservation. The system is great. When I first removed it from the box, I was really impressed with the physical size and design of the box. It is small and sleek. Controller feels great and fits my hand better than the DS3. The grips feel different but not in a bad way. Turned on with no problems whatsoever. The download speed of games and patches, at least from my perspective, is much faster than the PS3. I have cable with an AC router. I was slightly disappointed that the PS4 does not have 5ghz wifi and no AC support. Box came with a 30 day free trail of their music service, which does what it is suppose to do, play music, $10 credit for PSN store and a 30 day trail of the PSN Plus. One of the best things is that I have not spent a single penny on games so far. There are 3 free to plays, F2P, Warframe, DC Universe Online and Blacklight: Retribution And the PSN Plus gave me 2 more free games, Contrast and Resogun. I have play all and my favorite is Resogun. I loved Super R Type back in the day and this is just the same, only better. I will have to purchase PSN Plus once my 30 day trail expires but with the free games they constantly give away, $50 for a year is a great price. Like I said above, I don't really play FPS games. The expectation from a new console is a big jump in graphics fidelity. While I don't feel I have seen that yet, I do see the potential for it in the next year or two. But the games are fun and that is what matters. For me the indie games are also very welcome, as I like the diversity they provide, if you like that type of stuff. It is a great system and I would recommend it to anyone. The real question is are there any games so amazing right now that you can't wait 6 months to play? At least for me, that answer is not yet, but I am still having a blast playing and can't wait to see what will come.

I got the PS4 on USA launch day, November 15th. I got Battlefield 4 on launch day as well. One of the first things I did was download the Battlefield 4 multiplayer and the two free games on the PlayStation Network, Contrast and Resogun. These games did not take very long to download and were playable almost right away. The PS4 is quiet while running and can't be heard at all if the TV volume is on. The only issue was Battlefield 4 multiplayer. For roughly the first week, the multiplayer would crash and kick the player back to the PS4 main menu. However, these issues have been fixed and everything runs smoothly now. The graphics on the PS4 are incredible. With a game like Battlefield 4, the environment effects are very life-like. Water movement, reflections, details in the grass and trees, everything is sharp and there is no lag. The only downside so far has been the PS4 menu interface. It's a little difficult to get used to and the account settings page is hard to find. Another thing that is difficult is the Friends and Party tabs. There are quite a few sub-menus to go through just to chat with a friend or start a party chat. I previously had an Xbox 360 and was used to the interface they used on that system. The PS4 interface just seems a little slow and redundant at times. I'm sure this will be changed in the coming months and years as the developers figure out better design features for everything. The main menu itself displays all the games you have available to play, so those are easy to find. The package I got came with the system, a controller, an HDMI cable (which is the only way the PS4 can hook up to a TV), and a headphone set with a mic. Overall, I'm very pleased with my PS4 and would recommend it to anyone looking at enjoying a beautiful gaming machine.

Still enjoying gaming after 38 years

So after playing in MS house for last 10 years and having lots of fun setting up Halo LAN parties for my sons and myself, I was a little put off by the direction MS was going with XB1, with not being able to share my retail games with my sons who live under my roof (we have 3 360's#. Then there was the having to log in every 24 hours to even play my games I owned. Yeah, I know they eventually changed this policies, but my Wife and kids had already preordered, and with already owning a Vita and them saying I could play my PS4 games on my Vita #play some Killzone, Assassin's Creed, Need for Speed, or whatever while my Wife watches her girlie shows) I was sold. Anyway, played over 11 hours the first day, some 15 hours second day and 3 hours so far with my sons. I already grabbed more than a few games for it, but it's cool that they have some F2P games that I/we can download to play with my nephew, so I'm not tied into grabbing Call of Duty to play with him or anyone else on my friends list. I also like that I paid for PS+ for my account and everyone on my console gets to benefit from it, from playing online to playing the games they allow us to play during our subscription. Well worth the $50 spent on it. I was paying for XBL family gold which was $100 and they cancelled that earlier this year. Overall, it does what I expected it would, and am enjoying it. It's raining outside and my son is sailing in the Caribbean. Isn't that what gaming is about? Peace and Good Gaming All. Yes even those getting XB1. Enjoy your consoles.
