Customers are saying
Customers express satisfaction with the PlayStation 4's impressive graphics, enjoyable controller, and ease of use. Many also praise its performance and find it to be a good value for the price. However, some customers point out the lack of backwards compatibility with previous PlayStation consoles and disappointingly short battery life of the controller. The absence of a bundled camera was also noted as a drawback by some users.

Loving my PS4
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, so good. I have not really got to utilize my PS4 to it's fullest yet. I have not played BluRays, used NetFlix, or listened to music thru it, but Assassin's Creed 4 looks beautiful! I am new to Playstation, and the Playstation Network, but I like it so far, and the user interface is simple and easy to get around. Day one, I had a lot of trouble getting a PSN account setup and signed into, but that seemed to be a day one glitch. I like being able to plug my IPad into the PS4 for the companion apps for the games. I wish there were two more usb ports. I am going to get a Vita to be able to play games on the PS4 while my wife watches TV.

A Gamer's Console
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned both Sony and Microsoft consoles the past two generations at day one launch...have tended to favor Xbox the last generation...PS4 is very impressive move forward ...no ads all over UI...UI more clean and lacking in cutesy avatars, ads, etc (though any age could certainly use it)..gameplay on AC4 and Killzone have been absolutely smooth and rock solid...Killzone was built for PS4 but for a day one game it is most definitely a leap forward ....I am not a fanboy of Sony or Microsoft...and will buy an Xbox One..though cancelled my day one pre-order as I would prefer not to be forced to buy a Kinect I have no use for...I have to admit the PS4 has substantially exceeded my expectations...it booted up from the start with no issues...downloaded day one patch and was off playing without a glitch...incredibly smooth...highly recommend

Next Gen quality abounds
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation 4 is definitely an upgrade in the console department. While as of right now the graphics in the games I own are better than PS3, they are not as big of a jump in quality as I hoped. That will change, I'm sure, because they are launch titles. The OS is easy and fast (though I still enjoy the XMB on my PS3 as well), the PSN features have been improved, and installing/updating games is no longer a hassle (most of the time, anyway). The Dualshock 4 is amazing. The size is perfect, the touchpad should be a great innovation, and the battery life is solid (and can finally be charged with the system in standby mode!). Unfortunately, one of my controllers R1 buttons sticks a little already, but that's probably an aberration. I think Sony has made a seriously high-quality product in the hardware department, and for me, it is the best choice of the next-gen consoles.

Awesome Game System
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got my system promptly the day it came out. It sleek and shiny out of the box, very compact for the graphic power. After installation I downloaded a game since none of the release day games interested me. So far it's awesome. The control is really comfortable too. I know I will enjoy this new gaming system for years to come!

PS4 ROCKS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm loving my ps4. I was worried about the os but it has not let me down and it works smooth and fast. Coming from an Xbox 360 I wanted the controller to be a lot more comfortable with better triggers and sony definitely delivered. Loved the new controller. VERY happy with purchase.

Great, easy to use game system.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A small, well engineered unit that is far easier to use and set up than it's predecessor. Stellar game quality indicates good things as the game library expands in the future. Controller a definite step up in precision and features. Overall the system is more streamlined and focused, which allows for more relaxing play.

Better in almost every way.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far everything has worked great. In the menu system the PS4 is lightning fast. You are able to switch in and out of the apps with ease. The graphics and sound are excelent. I'm happy to say the duel shock 4 controller is a lot more comfortable this time around, though the batteries last far less between charges than the last version. You will get an evening of gaming with a fully charged battery, but you might want to spring for a second if you plan on playing for an extended period. I am happy with my purchase.

Great hardware waiting to be utilized
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The system looks great, it's relatively quiet, and boots up fast. The new user interface is snappy and sleek. I think some minor changes should be made in future patches. This includes notifications when friends come online and a better way of organizing your trophy list. Party chats are a very overdue and welcome addition and work great. The dualshock 4 is a big improvement over last generation. The graphics can be great but we just need more games to utilize the advance technology, which will happen over time.

Next Gen is here
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picked up my ps4 at midnight. Was excited to see how the new hardware fared. Glad I got a good unit and not a broken one. The graphics by far are a huge step up and the speed of the system is ridiculous fast. The psn and store had a huge overhaul that was much needed improvement. The share button was probably the one feature I could have cared less to use leading up to release and I had to admit but I thoroughly enjoy the ability to share my battle logs so easily. I picked up 3 games need for speed, assasins creed, and bf4. The The games are great and my only issue at all with the system is the games seem to be buggy. BF4 random crashes and certain multiplayer modes are not working at all. Need for speed is fun some times you randomly warp into the ocean sometimes a few cops randomly spawn right on top of you. I had a cop bust a 90 degree turn at 150mph without skidding or slowing down. Cant really blame the system and alot of the issues have been patched. All in all I am very impressed with the system and I cant wait to see what the future holds for the next gen systems.

Like the PS3, but faster and better.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My review could be bit biased since my PS4 has not failed yet. Taking aside the console failing, the PS4 is everything like the PS3, but faster and better. Yes, there is no YouTube app yet, but it does have Netflix and Hulu Plus. Its so fast and has ability to jump between games, PS Store, and other things. On my PS3, it takes 7-10 min to install a 5 GB game. This PS4 installed 35 GB of Battlefield 4 in 1-2 minutes. Same with getting into the PS Store. On the PS3 it takes roughly 10-15 seconds. On the PS4, it takes 2 seconds and your in the Store. On the PS3, you have to quit your game before you can visit the Store. But on the PS4, you can jump into/between the two and even other apps/tasks without having to quit anything. Though I criticize the 500 GB HD because the games so far all require huge space (implying the HD would soon be filled), its not a big thing. If you delete game data to make room for other games, said data could be installed again in 1-2 minutes. Once Infamous: Second Son and the next Last of Us come out, the PS4 will be the ultimate console.

The future is now
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PS4 is such a vast improvement over the PS3. I had an original PS3, not a slim, and the noise had gotten so bad that I had to buy a blu-ray player because I could no longer hear the movies over the fan noise. It was also slow to start up and slow to download files and games. The PS4 is much, much better. It's quick and slick-downloading even large game files very quickly. It's whisper quiet; I played for at least 8 hours at a stretch one day and the noise never seemed to get any louder. On top of that, the gameplay experience (at least on the games I've played so far) has been slick and responsive and the graphics are gorgeous. The only downside is a UI which is rather clumsy, though this is still a vast improvement over the PS3 UI. I'd rather there be a few more button pushes and a little less clutter, but this is minor and doesn't detract from the overall experience much. There aren't many games yet, but the few that there are have been excellent and the rest of 2014 and into 2015 is looking like an avalanche of great games. I can't wait.

PS3 lover is smitten with PS4
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I saved up all summer, reserving copy months in advance. I didn't even really need a new system (I still have a dozen or so games to complete on the ps3) but I felt compelled to but it, to be the first to experience it. I had no money to afford a game at the time of launch, but since I'm a psn plus member I received 2 free games, as well as 3 that are free to all new ps4 owners. I am a kid in a candy store. I have heard or massive ps4 malfunctions affecting 0.04% of new consoles (I truly empathize with those gamers, it is a tragedy). My experience: utterly impressed. The last time I bought a system at launch was the N64. I like a company to work the bugs out (with these modern systems) before I dabble. This time I gambled and won! I am blown away by the graphics, the interface, and the games. There are substantial load times (to be expected) but overall the ps4 is very user friendly and fun to interact with (if you are familiar with console gaming and interfaces). I highly recommend to the experienced gamer, or the pioneering gaming aficionado. Hats off to sony!

Great console for any type of gamer.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PlayStation 4 is an all-around well built gaming machine. The pros include a great redesigned controller, an excellent User Interface, and great hardware specifications. The cons include short battery life for the controller and the headset that is included is not that great, but that's a minor complaint.

Great Gaming System
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this system at the midnight launch (which was handled great by my local Best Buy) and have been loving it ever since. I have played games since I got my NES about 25 years ago when I was a kid and this is definately a true gaming system. The graphics are very crisp and the first party games look especially amazing. The dualshock 4 makes shooters feel natural finally and makes me wonder how I played with the dualshock all those years and actually enjoyed it. The menus are super easy to navigate and sharing clips to friends is fun and easy. The only downside I would say is the size of the HD as 500 GB is not enough so I will likely have to upgrade as it prevents from actually going digital. I have 6 retail games and all the free downloaded PSN games (about 4) and only have 180 GB left and its only been two weeks. The saves are small and the install times are quick so its easy to remove games and put them back on if it becomes an issue. I would reccomend this over the Xbox One (I do have both) for people that want it for playing games as the main focus.

PS4 is a great system
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PS4 is an improvement over the PS3 in every way. The menus and response are quick, moving in and out of games and between a game and the Internet or the view Twitch/Ustream content is a breeze. You can use voice commands either with the camera or with any mic. You can plug any pair of headphones with or without mic into the controller to use for game and/or chat audio. 1. I didn't think I would use the screenshot or upload video feature, but I actually post screenshots to Twitter quite a bit, and have taken a number of videos. The only issue here is videos can only be uploaded to Facebook, so while I've uploaded a bunch I haven't taken the time to rip them from Facebook to post to YouTube which is really the only place I would share a video link from. I have tried streaming to Twitch a few times but I always play late at night and can't really talk much into my mic or have the camera on so I never get anyone watching my stream. 2. The system is amazingly fast, and the improvement from the XMB to the new Dynamic Menu is great. Everything reacts quickly now, and pressing the PS button (or saying Playstation Home) from within a game no longer takes forever to get to the home screen. You can also multitask in so many applications now where with the PS3 I think the only thing you could usually load was the browser. Now you can launch PS Store, party chats, even watch Twitch or Ustream streams and then go back to your game at any time. Games install as soon as you put the disc in and the auto update feature and remote turning on your PS4 to make it DL a game is great. I have PS+ so I see all the benefits of stand by mode as well. Only downside is any game you have data installed for whether the disc is in or not stays in the bottom section on the menu, and there's no way to group into folders or by letters or anything like there was on PS3. I guess I could just use voice to find the game by name and then say start, but man I'd like a way to sort all that stuff. 3. The PS app is nice, and it can function as a keyboard to input info and it has second screen functionality for anything that might use it, currently only the PlayRoom. This is also where you can click to go the PS store and make games download remotely, the only dumb thing is this just takes you to the mobile website in your browser rather than building something native into the app. 4. The DualShock 4 is to me hands down the best controller I have ever used. I tried to play my PS3 the other night and the difference between the 3 and 4 is ridiculous. The Analog sticks feel SO much better now, they widened the whole controller a bit, and then put the triggers on there for L2/R2 finally. The touchpad leaves many possibilities for games, and I like that they got rid of the Start/Select buttons and now it's Options and a Share button up top. There is also a speaker in the controller like Wii has, which you can turn off, but for the games that use it it's interesting. The only downside to the controller is battery life probably due to the light bar on the back which is always on and you can't turn it off at least not yet. I could play forever with my DS3s, with my DS4s I get maybe 6 to 8 hours depending on the game and if they are making the colors change on the light bar. 5. I bought the camera, and I would say at this point it's not really worth the investment unless you just like to have everything in case something cool comes out. The PlayRoom was fun for about 10 minutes, my girls like to play it but other than that I never go in there any more. I use it as a mic every once and a while, but usually I have my Turtle Beach PX4s on for mic and game audio. I hope they release good apps/games for it in the future, and I really hope they get Skype or some decent video calling app. It's a good thing they dropped it from the box, because at this point with only one app really using it that would have been a shame to jack the entire price up. The only other thing it's good for is if you stream video and then people can see you as you plan in the little box on Twitch. 6. The games look awesome, I didn't think it could get better than PS3/360 games but man you can really see the detail in everything. Assassin's Creed 4 looks amazing, and so did COD Ghosts, they even upgraded DCUO for the PS4 to look better (which the PC has looked like all this time). 7. The games I've played so far have been AC4, COD Ghosts, Contrast, Warframe, DCUO, FIFA 14 Demo. AC4 I'm still playing, I am still enjoying it and is probably one of the best if not the best launch game. COD Ghosts was meh, then I played multi like twice, and the alien extinction mode a few times and haven't gone back, I think I need to trade in for BF4. Contrast is interesting, but nothing I think I'll go back to unless I'm bored one day and feel like a platform puzzler. Warframe is a cool Free to Play third person shooter rpg'ish game, which is actually on PC also and I believe as of the last update you can play your characters on both. DCUO I still have fun with because I know a few people that play and I'm in a pretty active league, with all the upgrades and how well it plays on PS4 now I'll probably play it for a while still. The FIFA demo I DL just because I had been watching a stream of a guy playing it and it looked like fun, and I have to say the demo makes me want to buy it. I asked for it for Xmas so we'll see. 8. I really want to get a Vita to try out the remote play and other interacting function but not at the price tag for a Vita right now. I had the PS3 linked with my PSP and then I never touched it again after that one day, so I don't know how much I would use the Vita to warrant $200. I'm loving the system and find it really hard to play my PS3 which sucks because there are a bunch of games I still need to finish on it, plus PS+ games that I keep getting and want to play. The biggest thing I'm irritated about is that Watch Dogs got pushed back, I was really wanting that game and AC4 to hold me over until games like Infamous, The Division or a Naughty Dog came out but guess I'll need to play DCUO more to keep me busy. I have played my PS4 just about every night since I got it, sometimes I just go on and watch what people are streaming.

Slow Start, But now Smooth Sailing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The PS4 is generally an all around great new addition to the history of gaming consoles. The power behind it promises great things in the future. The start up was a little rocky. When you first start up the machine you are prompted to do an essential day 1 update. Because of the traffic on the net. This update took several hours to complete making your system unplayable until the update was complete. I did not experience the issues that a few others had experienced with the PS4 or the new XBOX One. Both of these machines performed as they were intended to. This review is supposed to be about the PS4 itself so I will stray away from my impressions of the tiny launch lineup. The PS4 menus are similar to a PS3 cross media bar except they have expanded it a bit by putting your games and apps on the main line and you have to click up to bring up the line of settings icons. The load times appear to be pretty quick and the dual shock 4 finally feels like a comfortable controller for larger hands. Playstation Plus subscriptions ARE NOW REQUIRED to play online but as I have been with the program since the beginning they are totally worth having for all the free games. Since Every game title is required to install the 500 gb hard drive won't take long to fill up. So you will need to buy a larger hard drive or get used to deleting games. Some of the installs can take a lot of space due to the capacity of the blu rays. Discs must also be inserted into the machine in order to load the game up. You can jump in and out of games and apps rather quickly with the home button on the DS4 which is rather nice. All in all the machine is quiet, has a new standby mode(aka sleep), the new interface is easy to navigate, the free games offered by PS+ are great, the DS4 is much improved upon. A winner of a machine so far. The only cons are the mandatory downloads that hopefully they have fixed the issues with now and the poor launch day lineup of disc based games.
