Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the PlayStation 4's impressive graphics, enjoyable controller, and ease of use. Many also praise its performance and find it to be a good value for the price. However, some customers point out the lack of backwards compatibility with previous PlayStation consoles and disappointingly short battery life of the controller. The absence of a bundled camera was also noted as a drawback by some users.

I was contemplating for months if I should purchase the PS4 or not, and I am so glad I convinced myself to purchase the system. The interface and new features take some getting used to but they're not all that different from the PS3. I purchased NBA 2k14 and Assassin's Creed, and the visuals are stunning. The PS4 also comes with an HDMI cord, mono headset with mic, and surprisingly a 1 month free trial for Playstation Plus AND $10 certificate for the Playstation store. If anyone is still deciding to purchase the PS4 or not, I say it is totally worth it.

The improvements Sony made to the playstation platform werea very welcomed site. The PSN store is now integrated into the menu, so there is no longer a huge delay when opening the store. The menu is much smoother now too. I do love the ability to play a game as it's still downloading also. The negatives were known going in, and all scheduled to be resolved, as part of future patches. One is the lack of support for USB based headsets, including the official Sony brand sets. The other is the inability to export captured video to an external storage device. These are suppose to be coming later. The only negative NOT being addressed, is the limited range for the controllers. I keep my devices in a closet, to hide them. I had strange controller responses when leaning back in my couch, on the opposite side of the room. Otherwise, the system has run flawlessly, and barely gets warm when stressed with a game like bf4

This is an amazing piece of hardware. This console runs amazing and the games look great. Boots up fast and is quiet as a mouse! Grab it over Xbox1!

The PlayStation is an awesome console it does everything I expected it to do and more! Like wow when I turned it on I had goosebumps haha. The Blue light on the controller is also a great add on, on the new system as it helps me find the controller easily. The system itself is sleek and looks like I got my moneys worth. Lacks some new games like GTA :( but has almost everything else. The new user interface will take some time to get used to and themes at the moment are not available I hope they change that soon anyway thanks and hope you get one soon!

The morning after the release, I replaced my PS3 with the PS4 located in in the rack in the hallway, only to find out that the controller is not working smoothly due to range. I called Sony, tech department told me that the new PS4's controllers have only 30 feet of range, that's lot less than the PS3's controller range which used to work flawlessly. I was very disappointed of course, I end up placing the PS4 in a different room. I hope Sony can fix this problem with a future upgrade. Other than that, it's a very good game console with great graphics.

Great system for core and casual gamers...

*4.5 Stars* As stated above, this system is great for core and casual gamers. It has slightly more processing power than does the XBOXone (though the differences in graphics quality may be minimal), a much improved user-interface over the PS3, and the hard drives are swappable. I also like the functionality and feel of the dual shock 4 controller over the 3. One can tell that this is the next generation of PlayStation! If only there were a larger amount of launch games available... (though Sony does have a large stable of Indie game developers). Sony also now does charge for customers to take full advantage of its online services, however, it does come with its perks (improved multiplayer experience, free games!)

Great gaming system, but missing some features...

I love my PS3, so was extremely excited to pick up my PS4 and get it going. It was a little frustrating to turn it on and immediately have to perform an update in order to get PSN working. The update was going to take 2 hours to complete, but fortunately Sony allows you to download it on your PC and transfer it to a USB drive. This method only took a few minutes. Once up and running I was very happy. Fifa 14 and Killzone are fantastic improvements over the PS3 versions - beautiful, fast. I also got Knack, and although not varied enough is a fun little game. The only frustration that I've come across so far, is that you can no longer stream movies from your home network, you can only play music from Amazon Prime, Netflix etc...I understand that Sony aren't going down the same road as Microsoft in trying to create a home entertainment solution, but I feel this is a feature that will be missed by many.

    For Real Gamers

I’m not a gamer but I purchased the PS4 for my son. It’s definitely a better than the Xbox One because you can play video games offline. Unlike the Xbox One, they are becoming closed source (Proprietary) like Apple. If you’re a real gamer, this is the system for you.

From the start the PS4 UI is a simple, yet elegant experience. Games are the focus, but moving up a level provides access to all of the functionality gamers have grown to expect from 360 and PS3. Party chat works great. PSN store loads up quickly Trophy syncing is quick Whats New is a nice ticker stream of activity of your friends Future firmware will hopefully add DLNA support and the USB/BT Sony wireless headphones (although connecting any headphones directly into the DS4 controller is awesome). Streaming via the Share button is easy and fun.

Great system with no "must haves"

This is a great system overall. The graphics, and improved controller make it a great system to have. I was glad I was able to download the mandatory system update the night before onto a USB, so I didn't have to sit around and wait too long to get to play the system. Unfortunately, there aren't really any must have games at the moment, as all the games I have for the PS4 are multi-platform games. The system updates they have done have been great improvements. I can't recommend the PS4 over the Xbox One, as they both have their PROS and CONS.

One of Sony's greatest advancements in technology

Sony really opened there minds to ideas that were not really available. They wanted the system to focus on you which is why it has facial recognition (optional with camera) and wanted to drastically reduce loading times which they really did just by allowing one to enter there main menu for whatever reason then resume playing your game as you were. If your bored you can watch a friend plaing his PS4 on your screen. Playstation Plus has twice as much to offer than the new xbox live and the PS4 runs, acts, and performs as a the best system to date.

    Perfect Console for Gamers

Since purchasing the PS4, I have put a ton of hours into it. I love this machine! The controllers are perfectly sized, a good improvement from the previous version. The only downside is the battery life on these guys. I don't mind it though, since about an hour worth of charging and your back up to 100%. I would have rated this a 5, but the inability to play all of my PS3 games brought it down a star. Hopefully Playstation does something to allow all these games to be played on the new system. Other than that, this is a great system! I agree with most people, if you want killer graphics, get a PC. I've got a gaming PC, and I still spend the majority of my time on the PS4. I wouldn't trade it for anything!

I had no intensions on upgrading from a ps3 to a ps4. I've been watching youtube videos for months and still had no desire for one. Then my buddy got one and I got to see how amazing firsthand it is. The graphics, the smooth gameplay, and what really got me was the depth like in 2k14. Can't wait for future games...

I bought only one game for this, CoD: Ghosts. It plays fine until you start seeing lots of explosions and other stuff then your frames with drop. Also on some maps you will experience this by just looking into the distance, or if you can see the entire map from your position, it will drop frames. Significantly. Otherwise this is a great console. I loved Remote Play with my PS Vita, it worked flawlessly from my home WiFi. I never did anything else with my console before I sold it though. Im not sold on Xbox One either if thats what youre thinking. PS4 Supports Astro Audio Headsets fully. Xbox One does not (according to reviews). The power cable for PS4 is a simple one just like the PS3, so no huge power boxes to worry about. It blows out a lot of hot air from the back of the unit so be sure to keep it clear of anything so it can stay cool. I would recommend this for anything BUT Call of Duty.

    Best system since Super Nintendo

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The best system of all time is the Super Nintendo. Not absolutely, but relative to the time in which it lived. The Super Nintendo showed the pinnacle of 2D graphics on a SDTV. Towards the end of it's life the Super Nintendo even went 3D with the FX chip. The PS4 maximizes graphics on a HDTV. It's 1080p, smooth and crisp images. Everything is so slick and fast -- pop in a game and it starts installing in the background, even as you play. It's simply the best. It has a quality that other systems lack. It's like the iPhone of video game systems.
