Customers are saying

Customers express satisfaction with the PlayStation 4's impressive graphics, enjoyable controller, and ease of use. Many also praise its performance and find it to be a good value for the price. However, some customers point out the lack of backwards compatibility with previous PlayStation consoles and disappointingly short battery life of the controller. The absence of a bundled camera was also noted as a drawback by some users.

    Much faster than the PS3!

Excellent graphics, faster loading speed, and smaller footprint all help make this a superior unit to the old PS3.

I have been an xbox user since the regular xbox came out and I switched over from the original playstation... I have been strictly pro xbox ever since but I have to say that this is the smartest switch I have made... The PS4 is nothing short of amazing... The precision, control, graphic enhancement and improved online play is second to none. The PS4 reigns supreme in the video game world now... Playstation has reclaimed the throne and title as the best of the best...

***Between PS3 and PS4*** I bought this to play COD with some friends but was torn between getting the PS3 version and holding off on the PS4. Since enough of us were getting PS4's, I felt like it was worth it. If you are one of those people who are on the fence about jumping to PS4, I would wait. PS3 and PS4 are on separate servers, and you have to pay (after the initial 30-day trial) for PS Plus to play online on the PS4 whereas the PS3 is still free. Until developers start releasing games that absolutely play "better" on the PS4 (due to the additional processing power and whatnot), the PS3 is still a very capable machine. Also, for certain games that were released on both platforms just prior to the PS4 release, if you bought the PS3 hardcopy (disk), you can also purchase the PS4 electronic copy for $10. From what I've read, you still need to insert the PS3 disk into the PS4 to play the electronic version (kind of like a key). I wish I did that instead of just buying the PS4 hardcopy so I could choose to play on either system/server. ***PS4 as a System*** GOOD: PS Live is interesting, there are a few people that are on there chatting it up while they play the game. Easy way to get live feedback/reviews while watching actual game play. The controller is probably the best improvement for Playstation, the "handles" are wider and fit within your palm (Xbox like). Personally, I still like the feel and layout of the Xbox controller better (especially since the left stick is "above" your thumb and D-pad to the right versus the opposite for PS) but it definitely is a jump above all previous PS controllers. I guess it's preference with regards to the position of the left stick and is dependent on whether you consider pushing the stick up to signify pointing "up" versus "forward" (if that makes sense). On the PS, it feels like you're are "pulling" the stick up with your thumb, while on Xbox, you are "pushing". To me, the constant pulling gets tiresome, especially if you're used to the loose feeling of the PS3 sticks (bad). The PS4 sticks have noticeably more resistance/spring to them - which is a good thing when playing games that require more intricate movement/control of the stick. Another plus, while playing multi-player games on a single system, the light on top of each controller is illuminated in different colors to distinguish which controller number is assigned. Also, the PSN alert pop-ups are better. Seems like Sony followed in Microsoft's footsteps when it comes to instant accessibility to the content of the alert with a simple press of the "PS" button. Also similar to Xbox is the party chat which is ran through the OS versus the game (finally). BAD: I was disappointed to find that my PS brand Headphone/Mic was not supported (at least as of this review). It's already disappointing that the system cannot play PS3 games (which is understandable), but I do not plan on buying a separate pair of headphones for each system! I'm pretty sure it's "just" a system software fix/update, but I think these compatibility issues should be addressed prior to launch, no? Otherwise, it takes away from what you gain by exposing the functionality that you lose. For now, I guess I can make do with the dinky earpiece and mic which is similar to what comes with todays cell phones. OVERALL: Overall, I am extremely pleased with the purchase. 4-stars, had to take half a star off for the headphone issue, and another half since I think the controller could be better. Microsoft got it right the first time around, how many iterations of Playstations does Sony need to make before they simply admit that the Xbox controller feels better in every way. By the way, I haven't owned an Xbox since the original, but whenever I was over at a friends house playing a game that I normally play on PS3, my hands don't feel as strained as they do afterwards. At the end of the day, the PS4 is more than I anticipated in a system. To be honest, prior to release, I didn't follow what features would be incorporated into the PS4 - I just know that it had to be better in every way than the PS3. The level of performance isn't as revolutionary as the jump from PS2 to PS3, but that's because PS3 is already a great console and was born along with the inception of BluRay. The streaming and network connectivity are what sets the two systems apart (for now). I'd say it'll be another year or so before we start to see what the PS4 can really do. By that time, the bigger question would be whether or not you can get your money's worth out of investing in a next generation gaming console. If you're starting to see that you're using the PS more for a BluRay player or media device than a gaming console, you're better off with a PS3.

Anybody who's owned a console for its generational life has been able to see a clear difference between launch software and end of life software. Look at the PS3's start and end, and just imagine what the PS4 will look like. The PS4 is an excellent system, and probably the best gaming console out there now. I love mine, and will definitely be staying with PlayStation this generation. Oh, and the Vita makes this system twice as good. So many neat ways to utilize it.

By far the best video game system ever made, in my opinion of course. Setup was quick and easy, and the initial download was nice and smooth, took no time at all over a wireless connection. The PS4 loads lightning fast and runs extremely quiet. The DualShock 4 is heavier than it's predecessor but it fits perfectly in my hand, great controller!!!! Great job Sony for producing a powerful console and also a shout out to Best Buy for a smooth and fun midnight launch!!!!

The ps4 is the next evolution in the long and successful line of gaming consoles from Sony. Simply put, playstation simply offers the most varied range of games you could want. The setup on ps4 took me only 5 minutes. It's incredibly fast and easy to set up. Plus you have Netflix, Hulu plus, amazon prime, and a number of other apps ready when you first turn it on. I've been with playstation since 1997 and they've never let me down when it comes to quality games and content. If you're looking for the best gaming console money can buy, look no further. 5 out of 5 stars.

My PS3 died in mid-2013, so I decided to wait until around Christmas to replace it with a PS4. I hadn't paid that much attention to the hype around these new game consoles, so it wasn't until after I purchased the PS4 that I came to understand that it doesn't allow you to play any of the games from the last-generation console. This is ridiculous, and it could probably be changed by a firmware update and minor software changes to the PS4. Given the power of this hardware, emulating the PS3 should be no big deal, and the lack of games out there for the PS4 leave me wishing that I could pick up some of my PS3 games and play them, especially the ones that I hadn't finished, like The Last of Us. Bad move on Sony's part (I know Microsoft did the same with the XBox One, and I'll be sticking with my XB360 for now as a result). The controller on the PS4 seems to run out of battery after just a few hours, where the one on the PS3 would last for days. Obviously there's more to the new controller, especially with the speaker, so that's somewhat understandable, but the controller is very light. They could have packed a little more battery into it without making it too heavy. Why won't my PS3 Bluray remote work with the PS4? There is no reason other than this - Sony wants to sell me a PS4 Bluray remote. However, the fact that there was and is no PS4 Bluray remote yet available makes this seem like a stupid decision. And then we get to home media. The biggest selling point of the PS3, in fact the one thing that got me to pretty much abandon my XBox 360 and start using the PS3 all the time, was the PS3's much better implementation of DLNA support so that I could view pictures and play movies on my PS3 streamed from my home computer. That feature is nonexistent on the PS4 - gone, no trace of it at all. Even my DISH network Hopper allows me to play home media from my computer - how can Sony justify not including this feature? If I could return it at this point, I would. It's very disappointing.

PS4 is better than Xbox One

First I should point out that I have an XBOX One and a PS4. Thus far I like the PS4 better. I like some of the new functionality with the Kinect, but frankly I don't use most of it. I like that PlayStation allows you to play games while they are installing, so you don't have to wait thirty minutes to start playing a game. The PS4 also has a no frills menu that is easier to navigate. If you are only going to buy one of these systems, I'd go with the PlayStation.

    A extraordinary console

I preordered this and when the only disc based game I had was battlefield 4. The graphics and smoothness of motion of gameplay at 1080 at 60 frames per second is jaw dropping. Having a playstation plus account it transfers over to the ps4 and I was able to get 4 games for free. The only thing I say to make sure of is that you got a good tv for this console. Something at 1080p and 120hrz otherwise you might not get the full experience. Plus the ps4 is hdmi only.

Great Hardware, Not Enough Games Yet

The PS4 has great potential hardware-wise and Killzone Shadow Fall showcases the kind of graphics available from the PS4 vs. PS3. However, right now there are few launch titles available that I like (mainly Killzone and Call of Duty: Ghosts) and the only real differences are in graphics vs. the PS3 (as opposed to better AI, larger worlds, more player counts, etc.). The console is great for movie/tv show watching via the BD player and smart apps, but the lack of a BD remote means the controller must be used. Also, the PS3's BD remote is not compatible even though both consoles support bluetooth.

Next Generation Console at a great price

The PS4 delivers on promises of enhanced graphics and social features such as being able to watch live streams of other players. The dualshock six-axis controller is the most ergonomic controller I have used. It has a swipe pad, and a headphone jack as some additional bonuses. The console is compact and attractive, and it comes with a headphone set and HDMI cable. The only thing missing in my book is a larger library of games and the ability to play PS3 games.

I own every gaming system except the xbox one because I will wait for a price drop and a possible left 4 dead 3 but the ps4 is by far my favorite, the user interface is better than any game system and computer for that matter. Kill zone is one of the best exclusive games I have played not to mention the upcoming kingdom hearts that will be mind blowing on this system and psn is seemingly better than xbox live at this point for me. I highly recommend the ps4 !

So far so good. I got it on launch day. No blue line of death from what people say. It is the 1st generation PS4 but I am definitely satisfied by it. New and improved faster layout. For anyone getting the new consoles, I definitely recommend getting the PS4 it's cheaper. Not that the Xbox One is bad but the PS4 is cheaper by $100 and has 50% more graphic processing power. For just gaming purposes the PS4 is great, for more non-gaming I'd look into xbox one.
